hi gurus what is master data & transaction data

MASTER DATA
Master data are distributed throughout the company, they are often not standardised and often redundant. As a result it is very costly to offer efficient customer service, keep track of supply chains and make strategic decisions. With SAP Master Data Management (SAP MDM) these important business data from across the company can be brought together, harmonised and made accessible to all staff and business partners. As a key component of SAP NetWeaver, SAP MDM ensures data integrity via all IT systems.
Regardless of the industry, companies often work with different ERP and Legacy systems. The result: the business processes are based on information about customers, partners and products which is displayed in different ways in the systems. If the data are recorded manually, there are more inconsistencies: some data sets are entered several times, others cannot be retrieved by all divisions of the company.
As corporate applications are becoming increasingly complex and produce ever greater amounts of data, the problem is intensified further. Nevertheless, your employees must work with the inconsistent data and make decisions on this basis. The lack of standardised master data easily leads to wrong decisions, which restrict efficiency and threaten customer satisfaction and profitability.
In a word: in order to save costs and ensure your company’s success it is necessary to consolidate master data about customers, partners and products, make them available to all employees beyond system boundaries and use attributes valid company-wide for the purpose of description.

  • What is master and transaction data

can any one explain me in detail about the Master data and Transaction data.

<u><b>Transaction data</b></u> is data related to a single business event such as a purchase requisition. For example, when you create a requisition, SAP creates an electronic document for that particular transaction. SAP gives the transaction a document number and adds the document to the transaction data that is already in the system.
<b><u>Master data</u></b> is a collection of information about a person or an object, e.g. vendor or G/L account. For example, a vendor master record contains not only general information but also purchase order related information. Master data can only be entered and changed by authorized users.

Please help me.I need Data to make a demo planning
    thanks

    Hi,
There is a set of objects in business content (check under SAP DEMO in business content). You can activate some or all of these demo objects (for example demo cubes).
There are programs which you can then execute to create the datafiles which can then be loaded to these demo cubes.
" Start report RSO_BC_FILES_IN_BDS (Transaction SE 38), specify the required (Demo) InfoObject/InfoCube and choose the "Start BDN" button. The system will display all (generally one) CSV files which were supplied with the InfoObject/InfoCube. You can either export this CSV file into a local directory or you can write it directly onto the application server. For loading, proceed as described under section 1. " --- from OSS note 370397

  • Transfering Master and Transaction data to active and non active versions

    Hi Gurus,
I am planning to transfer ECC master and transaction data to APO active and simulation versions. My question is
    1. Is it possible to release Master and transaction data to active and non active versions ?
    2. How i need to config if i want to release Master and Transaction data in version 001?
    Please let me know .
    Thanks in Advance
    Regards,
    Raj

    Hi Raj,
    1) Once you create active integration models for master data and
transactional data, the data will get updated in active version 000
    2) For creation of non active version use transaction
    /SAPAPO/MVM
    3) For copying of data from active to non active version, use
    transaction /SAPAPO/VERCOP

  • Delete ERMS master- and transaction data

    Hi all,
I was wondering if it is possible and if so, how, to physically delete emails. So not only setting some sort of status, but actually delete the emails including the attachments etc. belonging to these emails. Is it possible via a (simple) transaction were one can do a search and delete, or via the WebClient itself, or....whatever.
We're about to quit using ERMS, and as a consequence, we would like to clean up everything related to ERMS like master data, transaction data and customizing.
    Kind regards,
    Micky.

    Hello Micky,
Unfortunately there does not seem to be a good solution for archiving ERMS / Agent Inbox emails that come in via SAP Connect interface. As you probably know, once an email arrives via SAP Connect, the email is converted into an SAP workflow workitem. Once the email is processed from the IC Agent Inbox, the workflow item is completed and the email is converted into an SAP Office document. From what I have heard, there is a possibility to do a "reorganization" in SAP Office to get rid of the SAP Office documents. I have also heard that customers have had success archiving the completed SAP workflow workitems. In case you are interested I think the tables that are used for ERMS related SAP Office documents are SOFM, SOOD, SOC3, SOFFCONT1 (if it is binary data), SOOS, SOST, and SOES (send external).
The issue rather seems to be that there is no possibility to archive the attachments of the SAP Office documents! My recommendation is to store the attachments on an external content management server as described in SAP note 904711. I am aware of a few other obscure reports (e.g., report RSSOAPUT) that are supposed to archive certain types of attachments (i.e., RAW and SCR), but I haven't heard of any customers who have successfully used these programs so I don't recommend them.
    Best regards,
    John

  • DP-Master data & transactional data

    Hi all,
Can someone help me in differentiating between Master data & Transactional data in Demand Planning (DP) & Supply Network Planning (SNP)..
How do we create both of them in DP & SNP..& how do we use them for Planning.
    Regards,
    Vishal.S.Pandya.

    hi vishal,
Because master data is always loaded before transactional data, ... SAP Advanced Planning and Optimization Demand Planning allows you to forecast your .Assignment of customer requirements to planning product Sales orders (customer requirements) consume the planning product’s forecast in the planning without final assembly segment. The forecast released from Demand Planning is for the planning product and the forecast consumption of the planning product is carried out whenever a sales order is received for one of the real products linked to the planning product via the hierarchy
    see this link

    Sales & Operations Planning
    main process
The continued pressures on performance, including shrinking margins, inventory expense, and pressure to better utilize assets require an evolved Sales and Operations Planning process.
This process now needs to integrate not only the pictures of demand and supply, but to evaluate the effects on the financial plan for the company.
To support this business process, SAP xSOP provides analytic tools as well as process management and data maintenance tools.
Processes such as Demand Planning, Supply Planning and Strategic Financial Planning feed into the Executive S&OP process where the plans are analyzed and adjusted to match the strategic goals of the company.
Demand Analysis and Update The process of analyzing and updating the demand plan provides the most accurate projection of product sales with input and buy-in from sales, marketing, and channel partners. The xSOP tool can be used to show plans from Sales, Marketing and the Demand Planning group along with promotional plans.
These plans can be analyzed from an S&OP perspective and the S&OP demand plan can be updated to reflect the strategic goals. The follow-up process is to balance demand with supply and resolve supply issues.
Generate Demand Plan, Sales Plan and/or Marketing Plan
    Load Master Data into xSOP
Load transactional data (plans) into xSOP
    Analyze using Demand Analytics

  • Meta data,Transaction data and Master data

    Hi all,

    Hi Ganesh,
<b>MASTER Data</b> is the data that exists in the organization like employee details, material master, customer master, vendor master etc. These are generally created once.

  • What if i load transaction data without loading master data

    Hello experts,
What are the consequences if i load transaction data without loading master data? Are there any other factors except the load performance because of SID generations etc and inconsistencies.
<b>What kind of potential inconsistencies will occur?</b>
    Problem here is:
when the transaction load starts a new master data such as employee(x) would be have been created in R/3 which does not exist in BW and hence transaction load fails.
    Thanks and Regards
    Uma Srinivasa rao

    Hi Rao,
In case you load the master data after loading the transcation data and if there is any look up at the master data in teh update rules, then you can delete and reconstruct the requests in the ODS/Cube so that the latest master data is pulled in in the data target.
Make sure you do the Apply hier/attr change before doing the delete and reconstruct.
    Bye

  • DP - Master Data & Transaction Data mapping

    Hi APO Gurus,
I need to create a document for mapping APO DP master & transaction data to the fields of a logical modelling DB.
I would appreciate if any of you have any information as to how to go about it or if you have any similar doc, please email me at [email protected]
All your help is highly appreciated.
    Regards,
    Ritu

    Hi ritu,
What exactly is your requirement. Unfortunately I am a functional consultant and not the best person to give technical details. However please note that APO especially DP does not store data in only DB tables (like R/3), instead uses liveCache which is based an OODB. The transactions access data in liveCache through standard COM routines. The SAP suggested way to access data to and from liveCache is through use of BAPIs.
The other point to note is that APO-DP is totally customisable as per client requirement. That is to say while there is some standard business content provided (by way of some characteristics, keyfigures and couple of planning areas) most clients created their own content - starting from characteristics, keyfigures, planning object structure, planning area, planning book/data view etc. As a result it is difficult to give standard field names for mapping.
DP Master Data is actually Characteristic-Value-Combinations (CVCs) that are based on the custom characteristics defined in the Master Planning Object Structure. Transaction data is timeseries data in keyfigures which is defined in the Planning Area. Since all these objects are customisable - standard field level mapping may not be possible.
    Hope this helps.
    Thanks,
    Somnath

  • Relation between master and transaction data

    Hi experts,
I have a basic question how the relation between masterdata and transction data is maintained in R/3. As I know first we extract master data and later transaction data in a typical R/3 based scenario.
1.How does BW knows that , the transaction data are  related masterdata in the same sense as in R/3 ?
I am involved in an enhancement of R/3 extractor. I need to derive 3 more fields and map it to info objects in BW. Cld any one explain me ( with an example plz) how these alignments to be made. How can I establish relation b/w derived fields and transaction data during extractions ?
    regs
    D Bret

    Hi Dave.
Let's see if I can get all of your questions answered.  First, when Transactional Data is loaded, BW checks to see if a SID exists for each characterisatic field & value in the load.  If one doesn't, it either creates a SID (Surregate ID) in the master data tables (default action) or the load fails (if the enforece referential intgegrity flag is set).  It's better to load master data first in either case as it will improve the performance of the transactional load.
In terms of R/3, the data has similar relationships as in BW.  There are master data tables and transactional data tables.  The difference is that while R/3 uses ~1 master data table per field, BW uses more.  Same thing for transactional data.
As for your enhancement, if everything you need for the derivation of the extra field is in R/3, then you can enhance the extractor in RSA6 and do the mapping in R/3.  Once you replicate the DataSource to BW and reconnect the transformation & update rules, the load should work.  If you can give a bit more information on what sort of enhancement you are attempting, I can give a better example.
    Cheers,
    Adam

  • Master Data/transactional Data Loading Sequence

I am having trouble understanding the need to load master data prior to transactional data.  If you load transactional data and there is no supporting master data, when you subsequently load the master data, are the SIDs established at that time, or will then not sync up?
I feel in order to do a complete reload of new master data, I need to delete the data from the cubes, reload master data, then reload transactional data.  However, I can't explain why I think this.
    Thanks,  Keith

Different approach is required for different scenario of data target.  Below are just two scenarios out of many possibilities.
    Scenario A:
Data target is a DataStore Object, with the indicator 'SIDs Generation upon Activation' is set in the DSO maintenance
    Using DTP for data loading.
The following applies depending on the indicator 'No Update without Master Data' in DTP:
    - If the indicator is set, the system terminates activation if master data is missing and produces an error message.
    - If the indicator is not set, the system generates any missing SID values during activation.
    Scenario B:
Data target has characteristic that is determined using transformation rules/update rules by reading master data attributes.
If the attribute is not available during the data load to data target, the system writes initial value to the characteristic.
When you reload the master data with attributes later, you need to delete the previous transaction data load and reload it, so that the transformation can re-determine the attributes values that writes to the characteristics in data target.
    Hope this help you understand.
