Your friend and whomever they talked to are wrong. That message occurs when your device is locked to another carrier, and only that carrier can authorize an unlock request.
Apple does not unlock devices for consumers - they merely process unlock requests submitted by authorized carriers. Your friend needs to contact his carrier and request an unlock for that phone, assuming the carrier offers unlocking (not all do nor are they required to).

I was using my iPad one morning looking at ebay, and then I locked it and came back and when I clicked the home button nothing happend. When I clicked the lock button nothing happened, when I plugged it into iTunes nothing happened and it didn't show uunder "Devices" on to side. I would then try and do a hard reset like Fernando recomends if that doesnt work you might need to try a DFU Restore.

If the above steps do not resolve the issue, or the if the screen remains black or shows a persistent Apple logo, try restoring with iTunes
Connect the device to your computer and open iTunes.
If the device appears in iTunes, select and click Restore on the Summary pane. Learn more about restoring iOS software.
If the device doesn't appear in iTunes, try to force the device into recovery mode.
More than likely, you will have to restore the device now. You may need to use recovery mode as mentioned in step 3.

I think you wanted to say App Store. Mac App Store is only available in Macs, not on an iPad.
She probably enabled restrictions. Open Settings > General > Restrictions, and disable them by using the password she set. If she doesn't remember it, you have to restore your device to default settings in Settings > General > Reset > Erase All Content and Settings, losing everything stored in the device -
A guest at our house was using his ipad and changed the apple netwrok name to another and put a password on it. How do I eliminate this netwrok and get back to the Apple Network?
Please check out the following AirPort User Tip for details on resetting the password. Once that is done, you can access the base station to change its Wireless Name (or SSID) back to what you prefer. To discourage other "guests" from changing the AirPort settings, you should also change the default base station Administrator password.

i have uninstalled and reinstalled itunes several times bc i cannot access the store. still unable to....tries to access but then just stops. no error. please help
Try this:
Go to command prompt (in windows XP, START/All Programs/Accessories/Command Prompt)
Type in following:
Netsh winsock reset
Hit "Enter" key. Restart computer.
Now check & see if iTunes stores is back to normal.
If not, try temporary uninstall your Security software & see if it works. -

Adobe no longer supports the installation and use of Acrobat 6 as it is a very old version which is not compatible with Windows 7.
I would suggest you to please use the latest version of Acrobat i.e. 11.0.10 which is fully compatible with your OS with its enhanced features and functions.

I've canceled the billing info, got an app store pre paid card and still can't download any apps! Free nor purchasing! Help!!
If you're in the USA, it would be hard to zero balance a gift card just with purchases as there are sales taxes in most areas that you don't know the amount of until the purchase is complete. My guess is that the issue is with the last purchase, there wasn't enough credit left on the card to cover the sales tax.

I have about 80,000 photos on my Mac. I wanted to use icloud. I needed to download the newer version so, for 14.99 I downloaded. Problem is, now I have lost my photos! I tried 3x to but it always stops working. HELP!

If you have your first baby after 35, you're an elderly prima gravidas; well I'm a proper elderly prima iPad user....when I first added my email account to my wonderful new iPad Mini it all seemed so simple. I had over 18,000 emails immediately on the iPad (probably eberything ever received on desktop) and was receiving emails daily (most but not all that arrived on desktop) but its just stopped. No emails at all. When I go to Mail, it flags up "The mail server 'imap.ntlworld.com' is not responding. Verify that you have entered the correct account into Mail settings."
I haven't changed anything from when it worked fine....I've sent a query to Virgin Media too.

Try this first - Reset the iPad by holding down on the Sleep and Home buttons at the same time for about 10-15 seconds until the Apple Logo appears - ignore the red slider - let go of the buttons. (This is equivalent to rebooting your computer.)
Or this - Delete the account in Mail and then set it up again. Settings->Mail, Contacts, Calendars -> Accounts Tap on the Account, then on the red button that says Remove Account.

Hi Apple! I am having a few problems with my 6 month old iPad mini (ios 7.1.1). I am using my iPad and then some time later it just restars! Don't know why and it just keeps doing it! Please fix or if I restore my iPad will it do any good? Thank you
Plug your iPad into your computer, open iTunes, and click Restore. This will reset your iPad to factory settings, so make sure everything important is stored safely. Once the restore is complete, do NOT restore from your backup.
If you still have problems, take the iPad to the Apple Store or another AASP (Apple Authorised Service Provider). If you're still within warranty, any service will be of no cost. Check your serial number here or find your receipt.

Assuming that the battery isn't empty (and it can take up to 15 minutes of charging before it will respond), then have you tried a reset ? Press and hold both the sleep and home buttons for about 10 to 15 seconds, after which the Apple logo should appear - you won't lose any content, it's the iPad equivalent of a reboot.
