Hi, what formula would I need to use to show current age?

I'm not a big numbers user and have very little concept of how to use it.
What I need is a formula to calculate an age in years and months based on a date of birth in a previous column.
Many thanks in advance for your help.
Kate

Kate,
You can use the DATEDIF() function which will return the difference between two dates (selectable what the return units are as "Years", "Months", "Days", etc).  Then compute the age in years and months.
I suggest a method where you compute the age in months, then translate that to years and remaining months as follows:
cell B2 = DATEDIF(A2, NOW(), "M")
cell C2=INT(B2/12)& "Y "& MOD(B2, 12)&"M"
select cell B2 and C2, then fill down.
the formula in Cs is broken down as follows...
-  the "&" operator concatenates the things on the left and right (that is it connects them into a single thing
- the INT() function computes the integer value of the division which will be the whole number of years
- the MOD() function is modulo and returns the remainder os B2/12
I hope this helps

    You can do something like this:
    D2=B2*(1+C2/100)
    this means in the cell D2 type the following "=B2*(1+C2/100)"... leave out the double quotes

    I got an old Apple G5 shell from Goodwill. I'd like to salvage the Superdrive and use it as an external drive for my Apple laptop. Is this possible, and what cables would I need if so?
    Other info is available:
    Superdrive MFG date: Sept 2009
    Model: DVR-118LBK DVD-R/RW Writer Unit
    My Macbook is: Mid-2010, running Mavericks
    Thanks in advance, God bless!

    That's a nice Pioneer DVD±RW drive - and an upgraded replacement for the original optical drive that shipped with that G5.  For a finished look, you'd want to install it in an external enclosure for 5.25" IDE/ATAPI drives that converts it to USB connectivity.  Because SATA optical drives have replaced ATAPI drives in recent years, the selection is getting more limited for a new enclosure, although used ones can undoubtedly be found at ebay.  Here's an example of one, although it only features USB connectivity.  You can also find enclosures that have both FireWire and USB connectivity, which for Mac users is beneficial.  Booting the computer (if needed) by a FireWire-connected device is generally more reliable than USB booting.  If this isn't important to you, then a USB-only enclosure would be adequate.  The enclosure will have directions, but essentially all you need to do is plug in the power cable and data ribbon cable and then secure the drive to the bottom plate of the enclosure with the included machine screws.

  • Would i need to use Java to do what i'm wanting to do?...

    what would i need to make a prog that...
    connects to my sites database?
    like i wanna make a prog that stays on my desktop and that it connects to my database so when someone regs i can activate them without going on the internet. Soo... what type of programming would i need to use? Java?

    No, there are a number of languages which could do that. Java, C++, Perl all spring to mind (and I might even make a go at it in bash if I felt like a laugh). Bear in mind the dictum about running before walking - it sounds like your level of programming experience is such that you'd need to spend a while learning the basics of whichever language you choose before you can write this particular utility.

    You can try using Screen Sharing in the Sharing preferences. Or try a third-party utility such as ScreenRecycler.

  • What Router Would Be Best If Using Two PlayStation 3 Consoles?

    What Router Would Be Best If Using Two PlayStation 3 Consoles That  Are Connected To The Same Broadband Internet Connection? My Two Cousins Aren't Able To Connect To The Same Lobby Party Together As I Am To Play COD MW3. They Have Tried Having Both Consoles Hardwired to the Router But The Same Problem Of Having Only One Of My Two Cousins To Be Able To Connect To The Lobby Party While The Other One Can't Connect.  Thanks For Any Help With This Issue.

    My router easily handles 2-4 PS3s at a time during Uncharted multiplayer and its a few years old.  Its a Linksys Wireless N (model no. WRT150N).  Like I said, its not the newest but it handles all our consoles just fine.  My internet speed is 24mbps, maybe your cousins need a faster connection? Hope this helps.

    You need either a FireWire 800 to FW 400 cable or a FR 800 (male)/FW(female) adopter.
    However. it the Mini (note that you still have the late 2012 Mini, Apple has not updated the Mini since then) has Mavericks it may not work satisfactorily. I tried it on my 2102 and I get abount 1 frame every 20 seconds. Another uses posted same problem.
    However, it it work fine on my late 2009 Mini with Mavericks
