Hiding data until client uses filter

Question

Hello,
I've got an XML dataset in a table and its linked
detailRegion. I'd like them both to remain unpopulated until a
client uses the non-destructive filter on the page.
This is certainly not necessary, but it would also be nice if
nothing was displayed in the detailRegion until an item in the
master region was clicked.
If that's too vague, feel free to yell at me. Any help would
be greatly appreciated.

Thanks for the help!
Yes, your guess was correct, the user must click a day name
to activate the filter.
Your solution works, of course, but I have two problems with
it:
1) If I have two items that fit the filter criteria, only one
will show. Could this be because I've set the repeating table row
as hidden (since I want the table head to be visible at all times)?
2) If there is no data to show once the filter has been
activated, the page kicks this error:
Error: document.getElementById("hidden") has no properties
Any suggestions or help would be very welcome. Thanks
