Image Gallery & Scroll Bar

Just exploring flash as a beginner, still.
I've come across this website:
http://www.jeremiahshoaf.com/
I'm a fan of the scrolling portfolio idea the designer has used in the centre of the website's front page.
Any ideas how this is produced?
My presumption would be a MovieClip with images various other MovieClips inside (holding images etc) and then a scrollbar controlling how far across the screen the images are shown with actionscript?
Knowing me I'm wrong, but any ideas would help me out to explore and learn further.
Thanks for your great advice, as always.
.. Also, I wondered if this could be produced, and as well as the scrollbar, the ability to add scrolling with the keyboard, left and right keys? Again, only a presumption, but I was thinking this might be simple with actionscript? Simply a piece of code to tell the scrollbar to move to the next MovieClip, if my initial presumption was correct.
The above is only a small side note for those who feel they can assist - but thanks again for any help you can provide!
This forum has been a huge help to me, in learning Flash so far.
Thanks a lot.

Well first you need a really long MovieClip with some graphics inside on it. That should be simple enough to do. Then you need a scrollbar. Just a rectangle should do for now. On this MovieClip give it a MOUSE_DOWN event listener and on that event use the "startDrag" function to add dragging functionality. Add a MOUSE_UP event listener to the stage and when that happens call "stopDrag" on the scroll bar clip. Then you can have an ENTER_FRAME event that actually updates the scrolling. On this event, check the scrollbar's x position and do some math to figure out the percentage you have scrolled. It might look like this:
var percent:Number = scrollbar.x / (stage.width - scrollbar.width);
Then update the main image container by the percent:
var minPosition:Number = -500;
bigImage.x = percent * minPosition;
Hopefully that should be enough info to get you started.

    Hi All,
    I am using two "Image displays" in my IMAQ vision system. One is for the original image and the other is for the image after it has been manipulated. I would like to connect the scroll bars from each display to move as one.  Anyone have any idea how to do this?

  • Web Gallery Scroll Bar Slider Problem

    Hi,
    I'm running Windows XP Professional and Lightroom 1.3.1. I seem to have a problem with the functionality of the sliders in the scroll bars of the web galleries that I make. I use the Flash templates.
    I can drag the slider to move through the thumbnails. But when I click in the open area of the scroll bar to scroll forward or backward a page at a time, nothing happens. That functionality seems to be missing. My cursor will change to a pointed finger when it moves across the slider bar, and the up and down arrows at the ends of the scroll bar. It will not change when I place it in the open area of the scroll bar, indicating that the functionality does not exist.
    This seems very odd and contrary to the global behavior of slider bars in all other applications, including within Lightroom.
    Any idea what's going on and any solutions?
    Thanks,
    Steve

    Hi...
    Please check in your application parameters. Did you declare wdtablenavigation parameter?
    and check table properties like scrollbarvisible always  or none...
    Check this link for application parameters.

  • Images and scroll bar in Itunes bright green

    Does anyone know how to fix this issue and have the display look normal. A screenshot is below.
    Some details: the monitor is set to display 32bit color and the screen reslution isn't the problem.
    -Thanks

    I recently got iTunes 11, and the scroll bar issue is not in Preferences > General in this version.
    I really hate this new itunes. The main issues I'd like to see are the scroll bar to be permanently visible. The second issue is when I have large playlists and I switch between them, the old itunes would always know which place in the playlist was highlighted. This new version always brings me back to the top of the playlist. And this is true also with the main library. When I am going through 4,000+ songs, it makes no sense for there to be no convenient way to save the place in the library I am working on while still allowing me to navigate other parts of the sidebar.
    Even though this seems fairly elementary to me, I haven't really had much luck finding other people who are having these issues, and your answer was the closest one I'd found.

  • The horizontal scroll bar appears in the middle on Safari.

    Hello.
    I have a problem of Ipad mini
    A few user has the same prolem like me T.T when I checked other users is using Ipad mini or related Ipad series on web.
    and I could not find solution for it,
    The probelm is : the horizontal scroll bar position is changed as below image, the scroll bar appears in the middle on web page of Safari
    after zoom the page out and moving.
    How to fix this problem ?
    I already did it with a few way to fix and it never fix in my side.
    - Resotre factory mode : still happened.
    - Turn off and on Ipad mini : still happened.
    - Clear Cooke and data in safari setup.
       If Clear cooke and data, it just disappeared on web surfing but this is only temporary way, I could meet the problem soon on web surfing.
    Please help me to fix and share some information for it.
    Thanks.

    I am having the same issue. Went to the Apple Store in Boston and the Genius Bar escalated the problem to the Engineers and they could not even solve it. They needed me to send them an image of the issue. I went to another Apple store and the Genius there had much better problem solving skills. He used his own critical thinking and discovered that the horizontal scroll bar sits at the same height. The height is exactly where the split keyboard ends. If you take screen shots and compare...you will find they are all at the same height. He thinks since the keyboard is a new feature they havent worked out the problems yet...and we will have to wait for the update.
    Ever since Steve Jobs has been gone the call to response for issues is getting increasing slower and slower. New products continue to roll out but they all have problems and bugs. Take Maps for instance...they still have not fixed all the issues (even with this 6.0.1 update). The Ipad mini I spend 700$ for and it is such a faulty product. For what I spent I would have thought I would have gotten a great product. I have all Apple products...phone, desktop, laptop, Ipad original, and Mini...but they have done me wrong over and over. It may take months for them to roll out the fix the way the compnay has been operating under Cook.
    When will the fix come....I do not know... best of luck!

  • Help with code for inserting horizontal scroll bar in photo gallery in Business Catalyst site?

    Hi,
    I am using Business Catalyst and Dreamweaver to create a trial site.
    I am not sure if this is the correct forum to post this request but anyway I have inserted a photo gallery module at the bottom of the sidebar in the homepage of my test site.
    Can anyone advise on whether jquery or any other code can be inserted into the page or module code that will replace the "next" hyperlink below the first 4 photos with a horizontal scroll bar at bottom of the gallery so users can just scroll through all 12 images ?
    Kind Regards, Matt.
    http://craftime-bs6.businesscatalyst.com/

    Alyssa,
    Have you tried putting this rule back as it was originally:
    /* Submenu that is showing with class designation MenuBarSubmenuVisible, we set left to auto so it comes onto the screen below its parent menu item */
    ul.MenuBarHorizontal ul.MenuBarSubmenuVisible
        left: auto; /*was 9px*/
        color: #EF9CCF;
        background-color: #FFF;
    That is, changing your 9px back to auto.
    And giving  us a link (as you did) is much better than printing out the code for us! Thanks!
    Beth

  • Multi-image (300+) horizontal scroll bar buttons

    I am new to DreamWeaver, and need some guidence: I need to
    create 300+ square image buttons in a horizontal scroll bar, but
    haven't been able to find how to yet. Can someone direct me to
    where I may find out how to create this?

    So what are you having trouble with exactly -- Making 300 +
    images with
    your image editing software or making a horizontal scroll bar
    in DW?
    Why exactly do you want to make people scroll through 300+
    image buttons?
    Is this supposed to be an image gallery or something? Sorry
    for all the
    questions but it's hard to picture what you're trying to do
    without more
    facts.

  • How do I reposition image scroller bar from middle to the right

    I am customising an image thumb scroller. and trying to follow up previously developed code.
    All worked fine until the last moment when thumbnails bar is positioned as if its starting point is in the middle of the screen. I suppose it was developed for the flash screen layout with centered coordinates. My stage probably has them set to the upper left corner.
    I can not make the bar move.
    My stage size is 1024 x 768
    Where do I do my math in the code so the thumbnails will be located in the middle of the screen rather than in its right hand.
    Here are the code snippets responsible for the thumbnails build up:
      const _THUMB_WIDTH:Number = 50;
      const _THUMB_HEIGHT:Number = 64;
      const _IMAGE_WIDTH:Number = 860;//550;original #

    Hi, thanks for taking a look at my problem.
    I assume that the code was difficult to read due to an unusual line brakes, which somehow I got when pasting on this site.
    Please take a look I am pasting the code anew in it entirety:
    (please let me know if you would like me to separate the areas which I believe give me troubles to address my previously describe problem:
    All worked fine until the last moment when thumbnails bar is positioned as if its starting point is in the middle of the screen. I suppose it was developed for the flash screen layout with centered coordinates. My stage probably has them set to the upper left corner.

    Where do I do my math in the code so the thumbnails will be located in the middle of the screen rather than in its right hand.)
    (Also wanted to mention that there an external file Slide.as which is not responsible for the construction and positioning of the thumbnails)

                                  var initialLoadQueue:LoaderMax = new LoaderMax({onComplete:_initialLoadComplete, onProgress:_progressHandler});
                                  for (var i:int = 0; i < _slides.length; i++) {

                                  initialLoadQueue.load();

                         function _initialLoadComplete(event:LoaderEvent):void {

  • Help with scrolling image gallery?

    Hi, using the code for a scrolling image gallery found here (Build an Infinite Scrolling Photo Banner With HTML and CSS | Design Shack). When I pasted in the CSS and HTML, it displayed all vertically and broke my title div. Not a professional, so I could use an expert eye to point out any mistakes. Trying to make title in vertical center of page, scrolling image gallery horizontal in the middle, and links directly below. HTML is below:

  • Scroll bar and tab bar turn to images, images on a page repeat themselves

    I don't know exactly how to explain my problem so I'll just give some examples.
    - On youtube, video thumbnails copy themselves on top of the other video thumbnails, and sometimes I can see 2 or 3 same thumbnail, but when I hover the cursor above them they return to normal. The names or video links are unaffected, just the thumbnail.
    - On facebook and some other forums, same problem exists. One thing I noticed, it doesn't affect huge files, as in it doesn't replace huge images but copies something like 200x200 image to some other place.
    - Some of the tabs in tab bar and scroll bar sometimes turn into diagonal patterns, and scroll bar sometimes has the same problem I gave as example above. The grey default layer turns into an image. But hovering the cursor above it returns it to normal again.
    Any help is appreciated.

    Hi, thanks a lot for the support. I've found the solution!
    I've checked all of the installed programs on my system. All programs are from verified publishers.
    Actual problem was with graphic drivers. My laptop is Sony Vaio and therefore I had the recommended latest drivers (for my graphic card) available from Sony website installed. The graphic card is from NVIDIA GeForce. So, don't know why but I uninstalled all graphic drivers from the system and downloaded the latest drivers available for my graphic card hardware from NVIDIA website. Now the new latest drivers from NVIDIA solved the problem !!! Firefox is working perfect. No problem on any website.
    May be the same can work for other Firefox users also having this problem. No need to disable "hardware acceleration when available" in Firefox.
    Happy !!!! :D :D

  • Scrolling image gallery problems

    I am creating a scrolling image gallery using thumbnails.  I have 36 thumbnails that are 100 x 100 px.  I cannot figure out the x y coordinates to line up the images correctly.  They are overlapping.  I've put in the first x coordinate at 0 and the first image goes to the left, and that is fine, it is when I click the last image to put in a number, which I thought would be 36 x 100, they do not line up, they over lap.  Does anyone have a clue how to fix this?  I am working on this site for a very pushy client who wants it done NOW...Thanks,

    If you crerate a Sprite or Movieclip 3600 x 100 you can place then one after another on that container then you only have 1 object to place and scroll.

  • Scroll Bar missing on Safari web pages and unfamiliar screen saver image

    I recently upgraded my OS X from Panther to Tiger v. 10.4.11 and upgraded to Safari 3.1.2. Now the scroll bar down the right side is missing from the open web page in Safari. Where did it go and how do I get it back?
    Also, unfamiliar images appear, something like a screen saver when I leave my computer for a
    few minutes without putting it to sleep or shutting it down. It's a black/white/gray portrait of
    a woman and as the picture moves around the screen, the image magnifies. I have no idea
    where this image came from nor how to get rid of it. Any ideas?

    Hi Busy1, and a warm welcome to the forums!
    Could be many things, we should start with this...
    "Try Disk Utility
    1. Insert the Mac OS X Install disc that came with your computer, then restart the computer while holding the C key.
    2. When your computer finishes starting up from the disc, choose Disk Utility from the Installer menu. (In Mac OS X 10.4 or later, you must select your language first.)
    Important: Do not click Continue in the first screen of the Installer. If you do, you must restart from the disc again to access Disk Utility.
    3. Click the First Aid tab.
    4. Click the disclosure triangle to the left of the hard drive icon to display the names of your hard disk volumes and partitions.
    5. Select your Mac OS X volume.
    6. Click Repair. Disk Utility checks and repairs the disk."
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=106214
    Then Safe Boot from the HD, (holding Shift key down at bootup), run Disk Utility in Applications>Utilities, then highlight your drive, click on Repair Permissions, reboot when it finishes.
    The usual reason why updates fail or mess things up, or things don't load/run, is if Permissions are not fixed before & after every update, with a reboot... you may get a partial update when the installer finds it doesn't have Permissions to change one obscure little part of the OS, leaving you with a mix of OS versions.
    Some people get away without Repairing Permissions for years, some for only days.
    If Permissions are wrong before applying an update, you could get mixed OS versions, if Directory is the slightest messed up, who knows!
    If many Permission are repaired, or any Directory errors are found, you may need to re-apply some the latest/biggest updates again, or even do an A&I if you have enough free disk space.
    The combo update for PowerPC-based Macs...
    http://www.apple.com/support/downloads/macosx10411comboupdateppc.html
    The combo update for Intel-based Macs...
    http://www.apple.com/support/downloads/macosx10411comboupdateintel.html
    Repair Permissions after re-install, then reboot again.
    If all the above do not resolve the problem, then it's time for an Archive & Install, which gives you a new OS, but can preserve all your files, pics, music, settings, etc., as long as you have plenty of free disk space...
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=107120
    Might try this for Scroll Bars...
    http://lifehacker.com/5040043/add-double-scroll-arrows-to-both-ends-of-the-scrol l-bar
    when I leave my computer for a
    few minutes without putting it to sleep or shutting it down...
    Check System Preferences>Desktop & Screen Saver>Screen saver Tab for that.

  • Scroll bar changes image in a frame?

    Hey there just wondering if this is possible, where scrolling a scroll bar updates a image to another image (even if you don't release your button) ie...

    Yes it is possible. I'm attempting to achieve something similar right now.
    I'm using a variation on http://sarahjustine.com/2013/11/08/create-click-and-touch-draggable-scrubbers-with-edge-an imate-cc/
    Essentially you can use the On/Off states of images in a timline and link the scrubber to the timeline so when scrolling it scrubs down the timeline.
    I'm actually attempting to set up a scrubbable timelapse in a similar fashion for a project I'm working on. You can see my progress so far at http://nahbprods.com/tnah-2015.html
    I'm trying to figure out how to have a timline auto update with images from a source folder so that whenever images are added to the folder the timeline updates and expands to fit the timelapse. The scrub-bar is already set up to adjust to the duration of the timelinel.

  • Newbie Scrolling Image Gallery

    can someone help me figure out why my site isn't loading an
    external image gallery? the tutorial i used can be found here:
    http://www.oman3d.com/tutorials/flash/imagegallery/
    they made the image gallery is completely done with
    actionscript and it works in the .swf for the gallery, but as soon
    as i call it to be loaded into the home .swf it doesn't work.
    here's the link to the sites homepage:
    (oh and dont worry i know the pics are pixelated and some
    things need fixed, i'm just trying to get the site working first)

    --- here is the gallery----

    if anyone can help me, please let me know. or if you know a
    tutorial with a better scrolling image gallery, that would be
    great. thanks.

    awesome! thanks! but now i seem to have another problem... =/
    the far left and far right images are cut off. it's as if the
    gallery width is being set to the stage of the entire site, and not
    the gallery.swf height/width. i think it has something to do with
    this code:
    myThumb_mc._x = (i-1)*myThumb_mc._width;
    myThumb_mc._y = (Stage.height-myThumb_mc._height)/2;
    and
    large_mc._x = (Stage.width-large_mc._width)/2;
    large_mc._y = (Stage.height-large_mc._height)/2;
