Hiding Slicer Options in Power Pivot

Hi,
I have a slicer on Pivot Table / Power View and I need to hide some of the options from the slicer.
From my understanding, the options displayed under a slicer are based on the data on Power Pivot.
I was wondering if it is possible to hide/remove some of the options from the slicer without filtering out data from Power Pivot?
Thanks and Regards,
Justin

I am afraid you cant do that
filtering out values from slicers would also affect the data itself - directly or indirectly via the slicer

  • Power Pivot Slicer options not showing in the Pivot Table Field list

Excel 2013. In all the tutorials I watch when you create a Pivot Table using Power Pivot there are Slicer options in the
Pivot Table Fields list.  Slicer Horizontal, Slicer Vertical These do not show for me.   I see Filters, Value, Row, Column only.   Is there a setting I need to turn on?   When I click on PowerPivot
at the top, the first icon on the bar is Manage Data model, not Powerpivot as I have seen on some of the youtube tutorials.   Thank you in advance.

Thank you for trying but it's not what I am after.  I understand how to use Slicers with pivot tables.   My question relates to Pivot Tables created using PowerPivot.   Directly under the Pivot Fields list on the right is a section where
you choose what you want to pivot  i.e  Filters, Values, Rows, Columns.   These are standard with any pivot table.  When I watch videos on PowerPivot there are 2 additional options in the section.  Slicer Vertical, Slicers Horizontal.
The video comments  they only show in when creating a pivot table using PowerPivot.  These 2 options are not there for me.  I don't know why. It maybe the version of office I am using which is Microsoft Office Plus 2013. I'd like them
included.  Appreciate you taking the time to help.

  • POWER PIVOT : VBA SCRIPT ON SLICER TO HIDE VALUES

    Hi,
Can someone help in vba coding to assign to slicer in power pivot report.I have a slicer with blank values coming. i have to hide those blank values.  My Model is SSAS tabular model . Since the tabular model wont support outer join these blank
values are coming in the slicer.
ie, i have a column called "fact.measures " in fact table and have   two dimension tables  called dim.measures1 and dim.measures2( measures2 is a subset  of measures1) . The measures2.measures column have
only 4 members  : budget, cost, revenue, margin where as measures1.measures have more values in addition to above 4 members.
Iam joining two dimensions to the fact table. Since measures2.measures  have only 4 members in the column and fact have more members iam getting blank values in the measures2.measures  . Since i cannot have any other logic in the model only option
is to hide those blank values in the slicer created on the measures2.measures.
can someone help me with a vba code to hide this blank value. "Hide items with no values " in the slicer property will not work since these blank sell have values in the fact table.
    IAM USING 2013 EXCEL
Hope you got an idea of the issue
looking forward for suggestions and tips
    thank you

Sorry you're right, the Office category isn't currently accepting bug reports in which case Olaf's suggestion to use the smiley face is the way to go. In Excel please go to File > Options > Trust Centre > 'Trust Centre Settings...' and check
that the Feeeback Tool is enabled.
If the option is greyed out like this...
... then you should be able to enable it by changing the value of the 'Enabled' registry key from a 0 to a 1 which you will find under: HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Office\15.0\Common\Feedback. You will then need to close all Office applications
    and re-launch Excel 2013.
Once the Feeback Tool has been enabled, you should see the smile face(s) in the top right hand corner of the Excel window and be able to send your feedback.

    Michael

  • Saivng last run data in Power Pivot

    Hi All,
I am using cube as a source for my power pivot reports.
Suppose I create a report and I run it on a monthly basis using power pivot technology.
My first run suppose is on 1st Jan 2014 and if I will run the report on 1st Feb 2014 again, it will overwrite the previous data which I got on 1st Jan 2014.
Is there any option to “Do not refresh automatically” or save the previous state of data without overwriting it.
    Thanks
    Syed Faiz
    SFH

    Hi Syed,
Generally, we focus on historical data BI analysis in most cases. If you want to review previous historical data in your report(such as PivotTable, Power View and so on), we should consider implementing Time Intelligence/Filter/Slicer for your scenario.

  • Why some columns are not read into Power Pivot when reading data from a SQL query

I have this SQL query that I want to use to read data to PowerPivot from:
    SELECT Score.FieldCount as fieldcount, Score.Record.GetAt(0) as predicted_gender, Score.Record.GetAt(1) as probability_of_gender,  Score.Record.GetAt(2)
    as probability_of_m,
    Score.Record.GetAt(3) as probability_of_f,  Score.Record.GetAt(4) as customerkey
    FROM
    SELECT * FROM dbo.myCLR1(
    dbo.MyCLR2('c:\fILES\MLSM.xml'),
    'SELECT * FROM [dbo].[Customer]') Input
    ) Score
After I click 'Finish' in "Table Import Wizard", I can only get 1 column (FieldCount) in Power Pivot window. Why don't I get the other 4 columns? If I save the result to a table I do get all columns but my goal is to dynamically present the result
so that's not an option. Can anyone shed some light?
    Thanks,
    Chu

I do get 2 columns (FieldCount and Record as shown below)

  • Power Query; How do I reference a Power Pivot table from a Power Query query

    Hi,
It's pretty awesome how you can define Extract Transform and Load processes within Power Query without having to type in a single line of code. However how do I reference a Power Pivot table from a Power Query query to avoid me repeatedly accessing
the same data source (CSV) file with a view to increasing performance?
We are aware of the reference sub menu option with Power Query. However the new query created by the "reference" option still seems to refresh data from the data source (CSV) rather than just referencing the base query. Is this understanding
correct? There does seem to be a lot of hard disk activity when re-running the new query which is based on a base query rather than a data source.  So we were hoping the new query would just need to reference the base query in memory rather than rescanning
the hard disk. Is there any way to ensure that the reference query just rescans the base query in memory?
    Kind Regards,
    Kieran.
    Kieran Patrick Wood http://www.innovativebusinessintelligence.com http://uk.linkedin.com/in/kieranpatrickwood http://kieranwood.wordpress.com/

    Hi Kieran,
This sounds like something to be suggested for a future release. At the present time, Power Query will always re-run the entire Power Query query when refreshed. The Reference feature is analogous to a SQL view whereby the underlying query is always re-executed
when it's queried, or in this case refreshed. Even something like using the Power Query cache to minimise the amount of data re-read from the disk would be helpful for performance but the cache is only used for the preview data and stored locally.
It would be a good idea to suggest this feature to the Power BI team via the feedback smiley face.

  • Power pivot gallery excel auto data refresh 401 error

    Hi All,
we have big farm, there a lot reports which is designed through power pivot, and those files are placed in power pivot library and scheduled it to daily refresh, but we are observing 401 occasionally twice in a week for random reports,
if we keep the same two copy of same file one get refreshed another get 401 error
Errors in the high-level relational engine. The following exception occurred while the managed IDbCommand interface was being used: The remote server returned an error: (401) Unauthorized.;The logon attempt failed. An error occurred while processing the
'EISS OA Master Table' table. The current operation was cancelled because another operation in the transaction failed.
how we can resolve this? we have case open to Microsoft no help till now. cleared the timer jobs, also all reports are configure with 2008 r2 versions only that is provider is
Provider=MSOLAP.4;, not getting how to resolve this issue. please help
    Guruprasad Marathe

thanks i was referring to an automatic refresh while the excel report opens, before user has any interaction with it.
Apparenty the classic pivot table option in excel works in sharepoint's excel services just the same!

  • Power pivot report freeze while scrolling

when scrolling the power pivot reports that are long the excel window freezes, the field list turns white, there's no data loss though, I can click the close button and it will give me the option to save the data if I haven't saved anything, they I go in
the task manager and end task any running excel processes and it would start working again, this happens on multiple computer in the orgs (with different os windows 7, 8.1 server 2012 r2).

Excel 32-bit or 64-bit? And how large is the workbook?
If 32-bit, it's possible that it is facing memory issues. Try 64-bit if you can and see if you have better results.

using Excel formula or DAX. Please find the attached screen shot as a worked example, also in my real life example not all the values are available in the drop down. You can't use a slicer for the same reason as you can't use a drop down. I guess what I was
hoping for is for the user to be able to enter AND or OR within the associated dialog box. Is there any way around this?
    Kind Regards,
    Kieran.

  • How to change user created power pivot table names

    Hi All,
First I created a excel table in a new worksheet . Then I add it to the model using power pivot tab option " add to data model". this is now added to my power pivot model. I change name both in excel and also in power pivot model. however when
I see the table in Pivot Data Fields option I can only see it as "table1".  Is there any way to change the table name so users can easily identify it?
    Thanks
    Sonny

I find that changing the name of my tables in Excel before importing them into PowerPivot is the best way to go.

  • How to make power pivot connections reusable/editable ?

    Hi All,
I've some power pivots in a share point server which data source is SQL server. I've used sql query (instead of selecting multiple tables) to fetch data from sql server. While creating the connection, I've export the connection file
to local and then uploaded the same to the excel connection library in share point server. This uploaded connection file has been referred in the power pivot in share point. The power view reports are working fine in this server. The properties of the connection
    is editable till this.
But the problem will arise when we rename the power pivot sheet name. The browsing option of connection file and connection string become inactive after renaming the power pivot sheet name. How can I avoid this situation? I need to use the same power pivots
and power views in different servers / sub sites on the same share point server. So I need the connection property or browsing option should be editable. Then only I can change the connection file location to the current site/ server.
Can any of you give a solution to this issue?
    Regards,
    Julie

    Hi All,
I got a solution for the above question. We can create the necessary sql connection in power pivot connection not in excel workbook connection. Before creating anything, open excel --> open power pivot --> connection from sql server -->
give the server name and database name --> switch to query mode  --> write query and you can give the necessary name for the power pivot sheet as table name there. This works as we expected.

  • How to sync/pull out 'phymyadmin' data into power pivot?

    Hi,
i work for a one of the leading e-commerce companies in India. ( Lenskart.com ). I have just installed powerpivot and looking forward to using my database /crm data into power pivot as the data is into millions.. i have login info of my server/db . rest
i do not knwo how to configure that to powerpivot so that i can pull out that data in powerpivot excel.. need hel to set it up..
    thanks..

    Hi Pranay,
This is the set-up I use also.
You need to make sure you first have the ODBC MySQL Connector installed on your machine (presuming you are Windows):
    http://dev.mysql.com/downloads/connector/odbc/
    WINDOWS
Then you need to go into "ODBC Data Sources". IF you are using Windows 8 or above simply type this into the start screen. Make sure you select the correct version i..e 64-bit if you are running a 64-bit system.
    Click 'Add...'
Choose your driver, for me this is 'MySQL ODBC 5.3 Unicode Driver'.
    Click "Finish".
You well then be prompted with a configuration screen, the only info I have needed is:
    Data Source Name
    TCP/IP Server
    Port (usually 3306)
    User
    Password
    Database
Click 'Test' to make sure the connection is working. In the past I have errors which were caused by my IP address not being added to the allow list on the server firewall, so be wary of this.
Click 'OK' and that is your connection done.
    POWERPIVOT
In powerpivot open your data model and then select 'From Other Sources'
    Choose 'Others (OLED/ODBC)'
Enter a name for the connection.
    Click 'Build'
    Click the 'Provider' tab
Click 'Microsoft OLD DB Provider for ODBC Drivers'
    Click 'Next'
From the 'Use Data Source Name' select the data source you created above.
    Click 'Test Connection'
    Click 'OK'
    Click 'Next'
You will then have the option to either write your own query to extract data or to select from a list of tables.
    Hope that helps!

  • Does SharePoint 2013 have Power Query services similar to Power Pivot and Power View?

Does SharePoint 2013 include services to host/support Power Query content similar to the way it hosts Power Pivot content in the Power Pivot Gallery?

Miguel.  Is there an update to this?  New information or new timeline?
We have SP 2013 Enterprise, on-prem.  I'm finding that Power Query 's ability to get CSV or XML or other Web Services content, and then load it up to PowerPivot, is a way to address the lack of ODATA connectivity options on the web.  :-(
I would very much like to be able to create an XLS doc, with a Power Query to a CSV file, Loaded to PowerPivot, and have SP's Excel Services/PowerPivot engine continue to update the content for me.  It fails today, as you stated above.
Do you even think this will be updated for the on-prem version of SharePoint 2013 or will it only live in Power BI for Office 365?
