Hiding Specific Columns in discoverer

Hi all !
Is it possible to hide specific columns for some specific users ?. I have 10 columns in the table out of which 2 columns should not be visible to specific users and other 2 columns should not be visible to some specific users in the report generated.
Thank You ,
Philip

Hi Philip
One option would be to create two versions of this report and use different connections - private or SSO - to implement this.
The other option may be to consider VPD to implement this functionality.

  • Hide a Column in Discoverer Viewer 10.2.1

    Hello Forum,
I'm doing a little "Show & Tell" this Friday for our end users on Discoverer Viewer.... I'm not the report writer or the end user, so I'm a great guinea pig for how easy is this tool to use and intuitive is it... here is my problem - I want to customize the format, layout whatever you want to call it of a workbook, a simple task like hiding a column seems to be missing? What's the trick, how does an end user who wants to customize their view of the workbook do a simple thing like hide a column?
    thanks
    monalisa

    Hi Mona
You need to master all of the intricacies of Viewer if you are going to demonstrate it effectively. Viewer is a very, very cool tool with lots of neat features which, in the right hands, is actually much more powerful than it at first appears. I find that the best way to demo it is to focus in on the positives and minimize or not even mention the negatives. Users can usually be blown away by having all of the positives explained before mentioning any of the negatives.
Now that I have passed on some tips for presenting Viewer, something that I do all of the time, let's address your particular question. :-)
There are two ways that I know of, and there could be more, to hide a particular column in Viewer.
The simplest is to move the column to the far right of the report and then tell Viewer to only display n-1 columns, where n = the number of columns in the report. To do this, follow this workflow:
    1. Click the Layout link
    2. Use the Move option to move the column(s) you don't want to display to the right of the last item that you do want to display
    3. Count the number of columns that you want to display
    4. Click the Rows and Columns link
    5. In Columns type in the number of columns that you want to display
    6. Click the Go button
This second method works for tables and crosstabs that don't use Page Items. Use this workflow:
    1. Click the Layout link
    2. Click the More link
    3. For the column(s) you want to hide, click the Up arrow alongside each one and move it to Page Items
    4. Uncheck the box called Show Page Items
    5. Click the Go button
    I hope this helps

  • How to select a specific column in a bean method?

    Hey everyone,

I've deleted some of the columns because they are all equal and by doing so, you have less problems in reading it.
In my method i have a matchEm but i'm trying to select a column by using this line:
            dimAnos.setColumnSelection("A2012");
dimAnos is the binding for my table Anos (Years in Portuguese). I even tried another values fro the columnSelection but i couldn't make it selected. Am i doing anything wrong?
Please help me or give me an idea of how can i do this.
    Regards,
    Frederico.

    Hi Frederico,
The method setColumnSelection is meant to set whether your table supports column selection or not. It doesn't select the column. In order to select the column, you need to set the column attribute Selected to true. So I don't know if its an option for you but you can create a binding to all the columns you have in you bean, and then call the method A2012.setSelected(true), and then add a partial target to the table to re render it and show the selected column.
    Hope this helps

  • How to generate a report for all Analyses which conatins a specific column

    Hello Experts
I am trying to generate a report of all Analyses which contains a specific column. We are currently using OBIEE 11.1.1.7.0.
I have tried to use the command line options using ./runcat.sh, but did not find any arguments that can filter the analyses by a specific column used.
    Any help is much appreciated.
    Regards
    Rakesh

    Hi Rakesh,
SampleApp has your answer: everything is available for free, just copy/paste and run on your own instance.
    http://slc02ojw.oracle.com:7780/analytics/saw.dll?Dashboard&PortalPath=%2Fshared%2F10.%20Lifecycle%20and%20Admin%2F_port…
(as long as this instance will be up...)
In the dashboard named "10.31 Webcat Analysis" you have a columns to analysis report where you select the presentation column and you get all the reports using it.
This dashboard require a script to be run on your catalog, it will parse it and extract all the column info (and many other interesting things) and load it in a database. The scripts are simple and well documented, so you can easily adapt them to your own environment.
If you want the script there is no miracle solution: download SampleApp and extract it (it's not small, but with all the great content it has we can't complain about that ...).

  • Analysis report with totals on specific columns

I have an analysis report that I need to create totals on specific columns. If I turn on "Grand Totals" from the "Edit View: Table" section, all of the numeric columns will display grand totals. This is a nice automatic feature, but I only need totals of specific columns. Not all numeric columns need totals nor do Grand Totals of some columns make any sense.
For example, to display opportunity details, we will have on the report:
Opportunity Name, Item number, Item Description, Quantity, Price, Extended Price
Since the opportunity may have multiple items on it, having a grand total of quantity and unit price makes no sense. All we need is Grand Total of the opportunity extended price.
Is there a way to selectively turn on/off column totals or is it an all or nothing option?
    Thanks in advance.
Edited by: nsidev on Sep 1, 2009 10:10 AM

Actually, i just solved the problem.
    Here is what I did:
    1. I added a column to the "Design Criteria" section (step 1). To keep the units consistant, I made sure that the data element was suitable for the value (I used a currency element). Ensure you note the position of the new column, mine was in position 11.
    2. Under the newly added elements "Column Properties", I set it to HIDDEN and changed the name to "Grand Total"
    3. Under the "Edit Formula", I changed the formula to be: SUM(<numeric column>)
    4. In "Create Layout" (Step 2), I added a narrative view to the bottom of the page.
    5. In the "Edit Narrative View", I set the appropriate formatting and added the following: Total Extended Price: @11
    6. Ensure that "Rows to display" is set to 1.
    Save and run
All done, works like a charm.

  • Column definition for a specific column in a view

Is there a way to query the metadata to get the definition of a single column in a view? I can see the complete DDL for a view from USER_VIEWS.TEXT, and I can see the column listing in USER_TAB_COLUMNS to give the datatype etc. However, what I'm looking for is the DDL that defined a specific column.
    So, given:
    create table PERSON (
    SSN VARCHAR2(12),
    FIRST_NAME VARCHAR2(25),
    LAST_NAME VARCHAR2(25),
    STREET VARCHAR2(40),
    CITY VARCHAR2(30),
    STATE VARCHAR2(30),
    ZIP VARCHAR2(15),
    COUNTRY VARCHAR2(35))
    create view PERSON_VW as
    select SSN,
    FIRST_NAME,
    LAST_NAME,
    FIRST_NAME || ' ' || LAST_NAME FULL_NAME
    from PERSON
I expect the query might look something like:
    select DDL from metadata where table_name = 'PERSON_VW' and column_name = 'FULL_NAME'
    and the result would be: "PERSON.FIRST_NAME || ' ' || PERSON.LAST_NAME"
    or select DDL from metadata where table_name = 'PERSON_VW' and column_name = 'FIRST_NAME'
and the result would be: "PERSON.FIRST_NAME"
    Thanks!

    Hi again Barry,
When I queried user_tab_columns (or dba_tab_columns or all_tab_columns), I have the following list of columns:
    TABLE_NAME
    COLUMN_NAME
    DATA_TYPE
    DATA_LENGTH
    DATA_PRECISION
    DATA_SCALE
    NULLABLE
    COLUMN_ID
    DEFAULT_LENGTH
    DATA_DEFAULT
I don't see anything resembling the DDL for the view column. Somewhere underneath some
cover I haven't peeked under, Oracle must be keeping track of what it is supposed to be giving
for, in my example, FULL_NAME.Unless I'm very much mistaken, these columns' data (per table) looks pretty much like DDL to me.
Maybe what you need is just SQL Developer (great tool, if you don't have it, get it!).
And it's free (as in beer - not as in speech! :( )
Beside the connections tab is a "Reports" tab with various, as you might expect ;), reports.
One of them is on the Tables - with (some) DDL. This will work as a once-off if that's what
    you need?
Otherwise there's the SQL tab if you open a table under connections - it's very complete - sample
    at bottom of post.

  • BULK INSERT from a text (.csv) file - read only specific columns.

I am using Microsoft SQL 2005, I need to do a BULK INSERT from a .csv I just downloaded from paypal.  I can't edit some of the columns that are given in the report.  I am trying to load specific columns from the file.

So where would I state what column names (from row #1 on the .csv file) would be used into what specific column in the table.
I saw this on one of the sites which seemed to guide me towards the answer, but I failed.. here you go, it might help you:
    FORMATFILE [ = 'format_file_path' ]
Specifies the full path of a format file. A format file describes the data file that contains stored responses created using the bcp utility on the same table or view. The format file should be used in cases in which:
The data file contains greater or fewer columns than the table or view.
The columns are in a different order.
    The column delimiters vary.
There are other changes in the data format. Format files are usually created by using the bcp utility and modified with a text editor as needed. For more information, see bcp Utility.

Do you need more than 2 rows? I did not include all the columns from the actual csv file but most of it, I am planning on taking to the first table these specfic columns: date, to email address, transaction ID, item title, item ID, buyer ID, item URL.
The other table, I don't have any values from here because I did not list them, but if you do this for me I could probably figure the other table out.
    Thank you very much.

  • Hiding the column data. What is the point of DBMS_CRYPTO package?

    DB version:10g R2
A requirement has come where we need to hide some columns' data from end users.
Trasparent Data Encryption feature wouldn't do the trick as it encrypts the data only at the storage level not at user level.
I've seen PL/SQL codes using DBMS_CRYPTO which encrypts and decrypts input strings like the code mentioned in
Re: Need some hints on using dbms_crypto
What is point of these PL/SQL codes?
They can only be used to create functions which will be called in VIEWS. That is the only use of DBMS_CRYPTO package. Right?
Do you guys have any suggestion in hiding/obfuscating column data? Is creating a view my only option?

One solution to "hide" data (columns or rows) from end users is simply to create a view.
The end user will be granted only access to the view and not to the base tables behind the view. The view will only expose those cloumns and rows that the end users is supposed to see.
Of cause this has nothing to do with encryption. But I don't see anything in your business requirements that needs to use encryption methods.

  • Get column value for specific columns

I want to change the default behavior of a IKM. In a specific step, I need to call a PLSQL procedure inside the loop below, and that procedure will substitute the insert clause. The procedure uses only some attributes, and I need to check the name of each one when I use the getColList method.
         for aRecord in myCursor loop
              insert into      <%=snpRef.getTable("L","TARG_NAME","A")%>
                   <%=snpRef.getColList("", "[COL_NAME]", ",\n\t\t\t", "", "((INS AND (NOT TRG)) AND REW)")%>
                   <%=snpRef.getColList(",", "[COL_NAME]", ",\n\t\t\t", "", "((INS AND TRG) AND REW)")%>
              values
                   <%=snpRef.getColList("", "aRecord.[COL_NAME]", ", \n\t\t\t", "", "((INS AND (NOT TRG)) AND REW)")%>
                   <%=snpRef.getColList(",", "aRecord.[COL_NAME]", ", \n\t\t\t", "", "((INS AND TRG) AND REW)")%>
         end loop;
For example, to call the procedure I do that: schema.proc_1(col1, col2, col3). However, I have more than 3 columns, and I need to restrict them when I use the getColList method. I would like to know if there is a way to get only specific columns, giving these names. I pass the name of the column, and the method should return its value. Can I use the getColList to do that? Is there any other way to do that?

    Hi Luciene,
You can use the UD flags to do this. If you click on one of your mappings in the Diagram tab of your interface you will notice several UD flags (UD1 to UD5) you can use those to flag the columns you want to use in proc_1.
    To summarize:
    - at the interface level flag the columns you want to use in your PL/SQL code -> check UD1 for all of them
    - modify your IKM code:
<%=odiRef.getColList(",", "COL_NAME", ",\n\t\t\t", "", "((INS AND TRG) AND REW AND UD1)")%> <- retrieve columns flagged with insert, not read only, mapped on target and with UD1 flagged. The "AND UD1" part can be used in other getColList.
    Hope this helps.
    Thanks,
    Julien

  • Changing the Column Header and Hiding the Column dynamically???

    Hi friends..
I'm new to OBIEE field. I'm working in a OBIEE project that requires to dynamically change the column header, and dynamically hide the column depending on the prompt value.
I know we can dynamically change the table header using the presentation variable but I couldn't do that same thing with column header.
I searched some forums that suggest to use java script for this purpose but I'm not able to do the same also. If anyone had same issue before please help.

toony, I'm not sure it's possible to do all that you want exactly the way you want, but here are some ideas you can pursue.
To dynamically change column headers without javascript, check this blog out...
    http://oraclebizint.wordpress.com/2008/01/25/oracle-bi-ee-101332-dynamic-column-headers-using-presentation-variables-sets-and-conditional-formatting/
As far as dynamically hiding a column, I don't think you can do this, but since you don't provide any details on how the PV is supposed to hide a column based on the value, are you talking about hiding a column for one PV value and another (different) column for a different PV value? Or are you talking about hiding one column when a PV has certain values and displaying it when the PV has a different set of values?
I have managed to create both scenarios via a work-around, but the procedures require some writing so I don't want to put both. Please detail how you want your PV to "hide" a column or columns.
P.S. I don't think column selectors will do the trick for you. Basically column selectors work like this: Say you have a report using Sales Region ID, Region Name, and Sales. Now let's say you want the user to choose if he/she wants to see annual sales, or quarter sales or weekly sales, etc. The column selector view would allow you to put the various columns (Year Sales, Quarter Sales, Weekly Sales) as an option the user can select. Once selected, the sales figure will change for the time period selected. For an example of how this is done, check out the section in this "Oracle by Example" link.
Waited too long to publish this... Madan beat me to it, so there is some overlap here...
