Hierarchy in Report Designer

Hi,
I have a query with a Hierarchy in the Rows, and I tried to create a Report with report Designer (SP3) on this Query.
It seems that the RD has Problem with the Hierarchy in my Query, when I run the RD in Print version (PDF) it shows only the title row of the report with a Failure from Adobe Reader: Wrong Operand type
but when I run the report in Web it works without problem.
can any body tell me how to solve this Problem

Different chart for each level hierarchy in report designer

Is there a way to display a different chart for each level of the hierarchy in a report designer? I want a different chart for each level. That is, if there are 5 nodes in level 4, I want 5 different nodes. Is there a way to do this? I tried to insert the chart inside a cell in each level, but it shows the same chart for all nodes instead of a different chart for each node.

Has any one tried using a context sensitive chart? According to this, it seems like this should be possible, but I am having no luck.

Report Designer - Summary page based on 3 queries with dynamic hierarchy?

Dear All,
I am trying to build a workbook based on 3 queries with a summary page that pulls in the query data into one page.
Each query is based on one key figure that is split by profit centre hierarchy.
i.e.
Turnover
-Profit Centre Node A
-Profit Centre Node B
-Profit Centre Node C
> Profit Centre C1
> Profit Centre C2
The user can dril-down into each query at whatever level of the PC Hierarchy they wish.
My issue is trying to structure a dynamic summary page that pulls in all rows from the individual queries regardless of the number of profit centre hierarchies contained in each. i.e. The summary could have 5 PCs for queries 1,2 & 3 in one execution, but then 10 for all queries in another execution.
Question:
Can report designer be used to make a dynamic summary sheet that will capture all rows from the individual query? or would an excel macro summary be the only way of doing this?

After much testing and looking into trace etc. we have got this thing to behave as desired. Basically, following two things,
- no reference to CR Dynamic Hierarchy variable on report. There were places where this parameter was being refered and causing grief. We tested with brand new report.
- making sure that on query Cost center restriction is placed in Characteristic Restriction area of Filter tab of query, as oppose to default value area filter tab.
With above in place, the published report in infoview behave as desired, i.e. proper hierarchy structure in cost center prompt and group tree and only desired nodes showing on report.

Report designer error for hierarchial structure on Columns

Hello,
I have a query with a structure in rows and another one in columns. I also have a 0COMPANY hierarchy Dimension within the Columns.
When I insert the data provider into a report designer report, I receive the following error:
"Query contains a hierarchial structure on Column(s)..."
Has any one encountered this issue before? Is there a note or workaround available?

Hi,
the report designer need to have a fixed number of columns. If you have a Hierarchical Structure in the Columns, the number of columns can change. Therefore Report designer does not allow to use this DP in this drill down. You should place the Row structure to the columns and the hier-structure to the rows. then it should work.

Hierarchy Node display in report designer

Hi,
Urgent please help me out.
I have an issue with report designer. I created a static report in Query designer with 2 structures. When i try to include this query in Report designer, only the last level nodes are getting into the Report designer. All the above level nodes are not featuring in Report designer.
Please help me how to make these top nodes visible in Report Designer.

How to convert Report Model to Report Designer DataSet

To all,
I have a two part question. One is I am experiencing the error at the end of this question when migrating SQL Server 2005 SSRS Native Reports, the report uses a Report Model, to SQL Server 2008 SSRS Native. I bring the Report and Report Model to SQL Server 2008 SSRS and get the error at the end of the question below. Background and the 2nd question are below.
I have a bunch of Report Builder based Reports. I need to convert them to VS BIDS based Report Designer Reports with Shared Datasources and MDX based DataSets.
How can I grab the MDX from the Report Builder Report Model so I can put it into the Report Designer DataSet Query Definition?
What is the easiest way to make this migration between these Report development environments.
I am able to open the Report.RDL file in VS BIDS and can see the entire UI layer. The DataSet I see here is the one that is related to the error at the end of the question. The RD/DataSet holds:

I have created a Shared Datasource that points the the correct Analysis Services cubes that the original Report Model pointed at.
However, I get this error when running the report:
An error occurred during client rendering.
An error has occurred during report processing.
Semantic query compilation failed: e EmptySemanticQuery The SemanticQuery does not contain any Groupings or MeasureGroups. SemanticQuery must contain at least one of these elements. (SemanticQuery '').

Actually the error above is from running the report on SSRS 2008 Native. Does anyone know why I get this error and how it may be resolved.
Then I try to bring the report into BIDS RD and create a SDS and DataSet. The Semantic Query above is from the RD DataSet Query window.
I get the following error when running the report in BIDS RD:
An error occured during local processing.
An error has occured during report processing.
Query execution failed for dataset 'dataSet'.
The SemanticQuery element at line 7, column 351 (namespace http://schema.microsoft.com/sqlserver/2004/10semanticmodeling) cannot appear under Envelope/Body/Execute/Command.
So I have two errors with two scenarios. I'd like to know how to resolve one of them.
I'd also like to know how to get the MDX from the RB/RM report so I can put it into the VS BIDS Version and get that to work properly.

Conditional formatting in report designer.

What is conditional formatting & how to do it ?
does it act like condition which we do in BEX query designer ?
Can we restrict values using this at the report designer level ?

Hi,
Conditional Formatting: You use this function to set a design that deviates from the design for selected characteristic values, hierarchy nodes, and so on, that is set by the default row patterns.
Conditional formatting can only be applied to characteristic values in dynamic sections of a data provider. A query (or query view) with one or more characteristics in the drilldown forms the basis of a data provider with a dynamic section.

Report Designer - IO Hierachy

Hi all,
I created a query and executing this. The Picture is okay.
When i open the Query in Report Designer there open as a hierarchy at the first InfoObject for example HOUSE. The InfoObject HOUSE has hierachy in the master data. The data are show displaced.
I don`t know why? Please help me. We used the Report Designer with SPS 12 and Sap Gui 640.

The data shows for following example:
House Date Time Text1 Text2 Text3 and so on. (that`s the header)
4711
The data are beginning under the house in the first cell of the row and the rest of this row is blank. The next data (Date) is showing in the second row in the second column and the first cell of the second row is blank and after the second cells of this row the cells are blank. The time data is showing in the third row in the third column and blank cells as above.

Report Designer - New Page

Hi,
We have created a report designer report that uses a Cost Center hierarchy. We want to display each node of the hierarchy on a new page. There is an option to select Page Break Before/After for the hierarchy header.
If we select Page Break Before, the issue with this is that the first page of the report displays as blank page and then it works fine. Is there any way to get the page breaks without the blank page?

Hi Erik,
In the Report Structure tab, drill down to your desired chracteristic. eg you will have Group level 0 > Group level 1: Company code > Group header 1 > 0COMP_CODE. Position on the characteristic and in the properties you will see a section "Rowpattern" where you can select page break before or after.

Report Designer - Error while opening a saved report

Hi,
I am not sure if this is an authorization issue or configuration issue.
When I try to open a saved report on Report designer, I keeping getting an error: Report Version is invalid: "0".
Has anybody faced similar problem?
We are on SP09.

I am afraid, that your report might be corrupted. This might have happened, if in tx SE16 the version is changed. The Report XML displayed in SE16 for table RSERDATA, is limited to ca. 1024 charachters. When editing the version, after pressing the save button, the Report XML is cut off at 1024 charachters and the report is lost.
Please do not set the report version in tx SE16!
I will need to configure the program RS_REPORT_MAINTAIN, such that reports with version "0" can be saved with the minimum version 9.0.
Until then I recommend the following procedure for Reports that are ok, but have the Version "0" bug:
1) in tx SE38, program: RS_REPORT_MAINTAIN
    open your report with option "DT" (designtime)
2) Switch to Edit mode.
    Make a backup copy of the report using the "Save As" Button.
    You can copy the Report XML to the clipboard using Ctrl-A, Ctrl-C
3a) Open a dummy report in RS_REPORT_MAINTAIN created previously with
      Report Desginer ( --> The version is set to 9.0).
      Switch to edit mode and paste the Report XML and Save.
or
3b) Debug FUNCTION rs_bex_report_load_rfc.
      Open a report and change the value of E_REPORT_VERSION to "9.0"
      before leaving the function.

Viewing Report created in Crystal Report Designer

Hi,I'm new to CR4E and tries to work with existing report. I saw many error while trying this, please excuse me to the long email below that I explain all the errors I saw......I have some reports that were created in Crystal Report Designer (CR XI Release 2) connecting to the Oracle Database using "Oracle Server" type connection. How can I access it from CR4E? I have the following problem (in the order I see them)1) In the Eclipse's JSP page, I specified the full path to the report, but I get a report not found error. Must the report locate within the project? Is there any way we can open a report outside of the project?2) I copied the report to the project, a) followed jrc_print_report example to print the report, get "JNDI name not found" error. b) then generate a viewer page, but I get the Driver "crdb_oracle.dll" is not supported error.3) I setup the new JNDI followed the jrc_changedatasource.jsp example to change the datasource, but I still get the "JNDI name not found" error.4) I imported the report intoEclipse and changed the connection. Then I can create a jsp page to print it to a printer (I still can't view it, but my goal is to print, so that's ok). However, a) the original report has a "Command" object from the Oracle database to control where to select the report's data, when I remap, this object disappear and I cannot see how to recreate it. Any suggestion? b) also, the report is very complex with many subreports and it will be nightmare to go in and change all of the datasource, also a maintenance nightmare to maintain two copies. 1. Yes the Java Reporting Component (JRC) which is the runtime component of the Crystal Reports for Eclipse can open reports outside the project.Â Â Its often better to have the reports inside the project for deployment purposes but you are welcome to put the report where ever you need it.Â
Note: To use absolute paths, ensure that the CRConfig.xml file does not contain a reportlocation tag.
2. The JRC can't report off of Oracle directly, you would need to use a JDBC driver to connect your reports to Oracle.Â The crdb_oracle.dll will never connect because its not Java.Â
3. When the JRC finds that the report is not using a supported database driverÂ it will do a lookup to find the name of the report datasource.Â When it finds the datasource name it will then do a JNDI lookupÂ for a JDBC datasource with theÂ same name.Â If your Application server doesn't have a datasource with that name it will through the error you were seeing.Â
4. I'm not sure about losing the Command object when changing the datasource but this is probably happening because the Command is linked to the database driver.
5. What you could try doing is creating a JDBC Datasource on your application server where this app will run with a JNDI name thatÂ matches your report datasource name.Â If your reports datasource name is "MyOracleDatasource" then I believe the JNDI name for new JDBC Datasource would have to be "jdbc/MyOracleDatasource".

How to create a report using XML data source from Crystal Report Designer

Hi,
Iu2019m having Crystal Report Designer XI R2 SP4. Iu2019m trying to create a report using XML data source stored on disk. This is a customer order report and the xml is structured in such a way that it has an order details header part (master) and then it has several order lines (detail). One order line can have several order line characteristics (detail-detail). So what I need to know is now I can design this layout from the designer. If this was done using views I can do it with sub-reports but using xml data this seems to be different. Can you help me to design this layout? I have included the xml and xsd as well.

Thank you for the response and ideas you have given me so far. I can get the fetch the data from the data source without any problem. That is I do the following,
1. New Report
2. From Create New Connection-> XML
3. Provide the u201CLocal XML Fileu201D and have u201CSpecify Schema Fileu201D checked -> Next
4. Provide the u201CLocal Schema Fileu201D -> Finish
Then I can see the following under XML

JRC Export to Text like Crystal Report Designer Export

We need to Export report to Text like Crystal Report Designer Export using JRC. Is this possible? I see export ReportExportFormat CSV, PDF and RTF only. These exports are working, But I need plain text that looks like Text export of Crystal Reports Designer. I see this working in RAS 2008. What I can do to get this with JRC. I am using Crystal Reports 2008 to design reports.

If I want to export automatically to text format, what other choices are there?
