High CPU Usage On client application when upgrade remote SQL database

Hi,
Is anyone here encountered very high CPU usage after upgraded the database from SQL 2005 to SQL 2012? Following describes my issue.
I have my client application running on Windows 7 that access to central database (SQL 2005) on Windows server 2003 using ODBC connection, this client application basically query data and perform data insert and update. There are a number of this similar
clients connected to the database.
Due to slowness of the database server, company decided to upgrade the database server to SQL 2012 and also new hardware runing Windows Server 2012. There is no change on the client application and client hardware and the client application still using the
same ODBC connection to query, insert or update the new database server.
The problem I am now experiencing now is that my client PC where my client application running the CPU usage is very high almost hitting 100% when accessing to the central database. I am also noticed this program lsass.exe that utilized almost 40-50% of
the CPU time when client application accessing the central database.
Is anyone here know, why client PC CPU usage 100% when access to upgraded SQL 2012 database? What is lsass.exe program doing, it only appear when accessing to database server. How to reduce the CPU usage on client?
Thanks.
Chee Wee.

Hello,
After upgrading, please rebuild indexes and update statistics on the databases.
http://www.mssqltips.com/sqlservertip/1367/sql-server-script-to-rebuild-all-indexes-for-all-tables-and-all-databases/
http://www.mssqltips.com/sqlservertip/1606/execute-update-statistics-for-all-sql-server-databases/
Configure maxdop on the instance.

If the above does not solve the issue, let us know.
Hope this helps.

  • High CPU Usage from "System Interrupts" when enabling IGP

    Hi
Mainboard is Z87-G43 with bios version 1.5 - OS is Win 8.1 x64
I have screen#1 connected to a geforce 570 graphics card.
Then i enabled the IGP (4770k) in Bios, installed the newest VGA Drivers Version 10.18.10.3277 from MSI homepage and connected screen#2 to IGP (reason is that geforce clocks go to 3D Mode when 2 monitors are connected -> higher power consumption)
Now I have ~10% permanent CPU Usage (80% of CPU1) in Task Manager process "System Interrupts"
    Any Ideas?
    Thanks for help

Problem is gone after reinstalling Windows 8.1 again. (Both times clean install)
Things that have been changed before reinstalling:
    - I updated Bios again with Version 1.5 - this time with BIOS + ME update with M-Flash. I couldnt do this before because with Bios 1.3 it instantly freezed when selecting the bios file for 1.5 update. So i used the forums Flash Tool to get to 1.5 and the updated M-Flash. ME-Version is higher now.
Things that have been changed after reinstalling:
    - I did all windows updates before installing drivers
    - Nvidia drivers is now 331.65 from Windows Update instead of 331.58 from Nvidias HP
    - Intel VGA drivers is now 10.18.10.3316 from Windows Update instead of 10.18.10.3277 from MSI HP
    - Intel ME drivers is now 9.5.15.1730 (2013-10-29) from MSI Homepage (was updated after my download)
Everything else was identical (UEFI Settins, programs...)

  • High CPU usage without any application running on the laptop

    Hi ,
I saw some earlier posts as well but I am not sure if anything is helping me. I have a HP Pavilian Dv6. Its with me for now since 2009 or so. It was all running very well till last Nov - Dec 2013 timeframe. I had many bulky work done on the laptp like video cutting editing , along with audio edits , fairly well. I used it mostly for videos and no games though.
Since Nov - Dec 2014, all the videos started slowing down, extremely jerky, and not catching up with the audio. Slowly the problem became worse . After 10 mins of video it just stopped and hanged. It did it with every site and any format of video including videos on my C Drive. I earlier tried a lot of things, playing around with flash player thinking that's the culprit. Did not help. Browsers changed, Mozilla, internet explorer , Chrome, everything no change. Then till around last week, I tried tested, uninstalled a lot of programs, also did Microsoft system restore and seen , the CPU continously behaved reaching to its 100% peak and the videos getting shot down. Just no change. Last week , I got desperate and finally reformatted my hard drive and did a factory restore on the laptop. IT DID NOT HELP !! The laptop behaved really like a good puppy for a few days , Youtube and what not and again since yesterday it has been shot down ! No videos will run. What's more even a DVD video is not running , nothing on a browser a simple DVD player DVD play is not running. Jerky videos and hanging issues.
Everything boils dows to 100% CPU usage. Even if I am closing all my applications , it shows 'system' as the process using 90-100% CPU. Without any browser or even a notepad option open. There is also a prgram 'dwm' which eats up the next big slot of CPU.
I am really tired of this and not able to enjoy anything. Please suggest what could be the issue here and how can it be helped?

Just to add the laptop is HP Pavilian DV6 , model Dv6t - 1300.

  • High CPU usage with emagent.exe when system is very busy

We have run into an issue with the emagent consuming a lot of CPU when our databases and overall systems get taxed. It does not appear that the emagent is the cause of the initial problem. But once resources start to get taxed and there is an overall slowdown in performance, the emagent starts consuming more and more CPU. Messages appear in the log indicating that it is waiting on certain actions, such as:
:activity_pending is due to run again but is still running from last schedule
It is almost as if the longer it takes to get a response the harder it tries and the more resources it consumes. In other words, it is making a bad situation worse. It would be nice if there were some configuration parameters that could limit the retry rate.
Has anyone run into this issue? I have opened an SR with Oracle support a few months ago but haven't got anywhere.
The OS is AIX 5.3 and the grid version is 10gR2.

Thanks for the info. I will pass on the SR # to see if it helps.
Here is the tail end of an emagent.trc:

Has this been something that just recently started happening, or have you had this issue for a while?  Have you installed any new programs recently?
You may want to download Glary Utilities, which is a free software(they will ask you if you want to go Pro, just say no, the free version works very well).  There is a module for startup manager.  You can go in and disable stuff that starts with the computer.  I would advise unchecking adobe, java, quicktime, printers, etc.  Anything that doesn't REALLY need to start with the computer.  The nice thing with Glary is that you can restart the computer, and if you find that you need one of the programs to start with windows, you can go back in and enable it again.
The Celeron 925 processor in your computer is a decent entry level processor, but if there are too many programs running in the background, it can bog down quick.  I would also recommend downloading and running Malwarebytes Anti-malware, to be sure that there is nothing malicous running in the background.

  • High cpu usage when moving application windows

    Hello all,
I have two machines with arch installed:
    - an eeepc 701 surf/intel gpu(xorg driver) with xfce
    - an amd 3800+ X2/nvidia 8860 gt(proprietary driver) with kdemod3(also checked with xfce4)/arch amd64 installed.
I noticed that when i move a window of an application(for example konsole, etc..) too fast i get high cpu usage(30-40 %), when checking with htop.
Is it normal that the X server uses the cpu so much when moving a window??
EDIT: up to now i tested it in a friends windows machine, and it happens exactly the same, so i guess is normal. It seems i need to be informed better about how X works :-)

today i switced back my desktop system to debian unstable and tried to see what the difference is concerning this problem.
I found out that in kde3 the solution to the "problem" is debians kde default configuration about window behaviour.
Especially the one mentioned below :
In debian this is not ticked and this has as a result zero cpu usage when windows are moved.

  • High CPU usage (more than 100%) while running video applications

    Hello everyone,
I desperately need help with this.
    I have a late 2007 White Macbook running Mac OS X 10.6.8 :
    Model Name:          MacBook
      Model Identifier:          MacBook2,1
Processor Name:          Intel Core 2 Duo
      Processor Speed:          2 GHz
      Number Of Processors:          1
      Total Number Of Cores:          2
      L2 Cache:          4 MB
      Memory:          3 GB
      Bus Speed:          667 MHz
The issue that I am having is, whenever I play a video (Netflix/Silverlight player, YouTube, Skype, etc.) the CPU usage shoots up above 100% and the video or the video chat becomes VERY choppy. It becomes impossible to keep going once that starts. Originally I had 1Gb RAM (512 + 512) ... then I upgraded to (1GB + 512mb) ... it was fine for about a year and then started chocking on memory... so recently I made it (1GB +2GB) and that's when this high CPU  usage thing started (according to my knowledge)
I have had this machine since last 4 years and its very dear to me. I dont wanna buy a new one. I will really appreciate if someone could help.

I am spending sleepless nights, researching for a fix. From what I found so far, a considerable amount of people were able to fix this issue by simple cleaning the insides of their machines using air dusters, especially the fans. I don't know how cleaning would help with CPU utilization, but by interpolation, I feel it's worth a try. At least it will be clean, if not perfectly functional. lol
Now the next big challenge ahead of me is getting the screws on my Macbook open. I was following the Fan Repair Guide on ifixit.com. I went and got the #00 Phillips screwdriver as suggested in the guide... came home and found out the screwdriver is too big.... went back got a #0000 Phillips (I also found out that screwdrivers with same number might be of different sizes in different stores)... got a couple of screws out and then--- another road-block!! there are a few extremely tiny Phillips screws on my macbook. Now I am hunting for the smallest Phillips screwdriver in the world. Hopefully, I will find it in some watch repair or eye-glasses repair kit in a store such as CVS or Walgreens... aaaah... this is sooo frustrating!!! I just want to get his done so that I can check it off the list of probable solutions that I want to try. Will update here if this works.
From what you say, I think that the Silverlight upgrade might be the culprit in my case too. But the effect is there also for Youtube, Skype , or any other Video/Graphics intensive application that I use. Although, Silverlight/Netflix performs the worst among all the apps.
I love my Macbook... don't want to part with it.

  • Google Earth Plugin and LabVIEW: High CPU usage when adding placemarks

    Hi,
I posted this question on stackoverflow earlier this week but feel it might be better suited to the LabVIEW community specifically so I'm reposting here:
I'm writing an application which uses the Google Earth Plugin to display events on the globe. Each event is a single point kml placemark with an icon which is a 3kb png file. Placemarks are uploaded to the plugin as they are received by the software. I am experiencing increasing CPU usage with the number of placemarks that are added.
I have tested displaying a new placemark every second and running until the software running the plugin completely froze (graph attached). The GEPlugin (green trace) stopped responding (i.e. the globe did not respond to the mouse) at around 1200 placemarks added and CPU usage was at ~30%. When the software itself (red trace) froze the plugin was using around 50% CPU and ~3700 placemarks had been added). After the freeze, no new placemarks were added which caused the software to respond (but not the plugin) so I could clear all the placemarks. After the placemarks were cleared from the globe, the CPU usage of the plugin returned to around 5% CPU.
So what I've seen is that GEPlugin CPU usage increases linearly with each kml placemark added. Is this the expected behaviour/ a normal limitation of the plugin? If not is there a more efficient way of adding many placemarks to the globe?
I am using GEPlugin version 7.1.1.1580 (API version 1.010) and LabVIEW 12.0f3
Please see the test results attached. Any input greatly appreciated!

    Hello,
I have had a look at your graphs and understood what you are trying to do. To me it seems that as the image gets more complex it gets harde to render which wold likely cause increase in CPU usage resulting in the freeze. I would suggest you try running the program on anoher computer to check on the RAM front of things. If this is a limitation of the GE Plugin then unfortunately I can not do much to help, but if you think this is a problem coming from your LabVIEW code then you can post your code here and I can take a look.

  • High cpu usage when the system is idle

I do have a high cpu usage problem when the system is idle. I bought the laptop (lenovo x230 tablet) with windows 7 installed in it. Then upgraded to windows 8. But ever since I have problems with high cpu usage by the system even when the computer is idle.
Only the system by itself uses around 30% of the cpu all the time. I ran xperf, and here is the result of it:
    http://sdrv.ms/Kj6CFN
I appreciate any help you can provide.
    Thanks,

    Hi,
I'm sorry for that the log you provide can't be opened on my computer. While according to your description, it should had a special process that consume CPU usage when system idle Iguess, isn't it?
    You can use
Process Explorer to monitor the process activity, may be we can find the reason of this problem.
Note: We can use Process Explorer to check the Stack of every process then analyize the problem in deep.
To gave a better insight about this problem, you can take a ScreenShot for this problem and provide the picture here.

  • [SOLVED] qemu-kvm high cpu usage when using pulseaudio alsa-plugin

My Arch system is configured to use pulseaudio. When an application connects to the sound server it will use either a native pulseaudio driver, or the pulseaudio alsa-plugin if it using a alsa driver.
qemu-kvm in 'extra' is not compiled with native pulseaudio support. When running guests with sound hardware support, qemu-kvm connects to the sound server using the pulseaudio alsa-plugin.
The problem I'm seeing is high cpu usage on the Arch host even though cpu usage on the guest is low. Also, the guest is often unresponsive for a period of time when opening sound applications like the mixer or playing audio.
My solution is to recompile qemu-kvm with native pulseaudio support. This eliminates the use of the pulseaudio alsa-plugin on the Arch host and fixes the above problems.
An easy was to do this is run:
    yaourt -S qemu-kvm --build
And edit the PKGBUILD changing the line:
    --audio-drv-list=alsa,sdl,oss,esd \
    To:
    --audio-drv-list=pa,alsa,sdl,oss,esd \
Finish building and install. Don't forget to add yourself to the kvm group.

I'm not sure, but i think installing xf86-video-modesetting helped to fix this issue.
I had an error messages in /var/log/Xorg.0.log like this:
(EE) Failed to load module "modesetting" (module does not exist, 0)

  • Since 10.4.6 Update: "ATSServer" with high CPU-usage when opening PDFs

Since I've updated to 10.4.6 my system is very slow when I open PDFs (in "Preview" or "Acrobat").
This is caused by the process "ATSServer" which goes through every file in "~/Library/Fonts" (I have over 4.800 files there - but just a view are activated by "FontBook") and so it takes very high CPU-usage.
I didn't have this problem bevore the update and I didn't make any changes on my font settings.
I've cleaned the font cache, but it doesn't help.
    Any ideas?

I haven't noticed any change myself, Dan, but I have the 2 GHz model.
One thing I HAVE noticed though after OS updates is that they can often result in a fair amount of file and free space fragmentation immediately after installation. OSX's routines will deal with fragmentation of small files , but not of large ones (over 20 Meg), and it won't deal very effectively with free space fragmentation. If your HD is getting full this can cause significant slowdowns, especially where video is involved.
You should also run DiskUtility and check for any directory and permissions issues.

  • High CPU usage when graphics card is put at work

I have a 13inch Air with 2GB RAM and 256GB  with Windows 7 Ultimate 64bit. All possible updates have been installed.
I noticed some tearing when trying to move program windows across the screen so I started checking the CPU usage. I saw that it is spiking to 25-35% when moving a window across the screen. When you drag down a window you can see the different copies of the top bar across the screen. Not smooth at all like on a standard PC windows system. Same issue when scrolling through webpages which spikes the cpu
I also noticed a high cpu usage when playing mkv files 25-30% while on an Atom HTPC i get a lower load playing the same file. The Air should be faster than an atom with a nvidia 9400m when playing video files.
I already tried updating the nvidia files to the latest version on their site by hacking the driver inf but this did not resolve the issue.
Has anyone experienced the same or know what could be causing the beavior?
    Many thanks

Maybe my initial post was not clear so let me add some clarifications.
I have the problem with Aero disabled
I have the problem on the Apple site which does not have any flash content.
I have already hacked the lastest nvidia drivers to get them on my system which did not change anything. Can you provide a link to some other 'supported' beta drivers?
I am using the new 13 inch air so it has the newer graphics card so I would expect it to be faster than an old HTPC with a 9400m in it. I wasn't stating that my Air had a 9400m.
It would be great if someone you also do the test to check the cpu load:
    - when playing a 720 mkv
    - when dragging a window across the screen
Just open task manager and see if the CPU spikes.
    Many thanks!

  • High CPU usage when downloading Files

    Hi there,
i noticed somethign strage when I download file off the internet or intranet. As soon as my download speed surpasses 1MB/s the CPU usage increases. To be exact the process kernel_task.
    For example:
    2,5 MB/s -> ~30%
    10 MB/s -> ~60-70%
    10+ MB/s -> ~80%
This is really annoying and I have now clue how to fix this. The Harddrive is a SAMSUNG HM320JI with a Journaled HFS+ partition. No Virus Scanner or anything. Also just reinstalled Snow Leopard yesterday.
Hope someone can give me some useful information how to fix this.

    Hiya,
could it have something to do with the write speed/ cache/ram? On a "slow" disk, or one that is nearly full or one that is partitioned, it will take a great deal more ram and cache to "digest" the faster download and write it onto disk. I tend to do downloads to a separate drive. Have you got one? and can you repeat the high CPU usage when downloading / saving to the external drive? I note your drive might have 5,400 rpm, with "just" 8mB cache and 320 GB (quite a few SATA's have 7,200 rpm and 32 mB cache).
NB: If anything, I found SL more efficient, especially on my 4 year old Macbook, which is running much faster and has got more responsive after installation of (full version of) SL.
