Highlighting stopped working in Acrobar Reader

I get following error when I open the documnet in Acrobar Reader 9.0.
"this document enabled extended features in adobe reader. the document has been changed since it was created and use of extended feature no longer available"
I am trying to have the facility of highlighting available in Acrobar Reader. I am enabling this feature as follows.
Using Adobe Acrobat
1) I enabled "Comments -> Enable for commenting....."
2) I saved the PDF again.
3) I did "Tools -> Advanced Editing -> Select Object Tool"
4) I saved the PDF again.
From within Adobe Acrobat, "File->Document properties-> Security-> Commenting" shows Allowed.
but inside Adobe Reader, "File->Document properties-> Security-> Commenting" shows Not Allowed
Interestingly, the very first time, I was able to hightlight using Adobe Reader and saved it too. After that attempt, nothing works, means for every PDF document I get same error, including those documents that I did not save using Acrobat Reader. I uninstalled Adobe Reader; manually cleaned all folders( because uinstall did not;) then reinstalled Acrobat Reader and problem continues.
Please let me know how to solve this or is this behaviour by design.

Update: After some more restarts and "restore default" clicking, the situation is this:
1) Finder and other programs highlight search-box with command-f
2) mail.app brings up search box with command-f but highlights search-box with command-option-f
3) After "restore defaults" F4 does not bring up the Launchpad anymore! I cannot put F4 in the according keyboard shortcut field in system-preference. I can only put fn-F4 which is than listed as "F4" and i can bring up launchpad with fn-F4 but I want it as before just with F4.
What is going on?! It gets weirder...

It sounds like you may have multiple problems, but none of them are likely to be caused by malware.
First, the internet-related issues may be related to adware or a network compromise. I tend to lean more towards the latter, based on your description of the problem. See:

If investigation shows that this is not a network-specific issue, then it's probably adware. See my Adware Removal Guide for help finding and removing it. Note that you mention AdBlock as if it should have prevented this, but it's important to understand that ad blockers do not protect you against adware in any way. Neither would any kind of anti-virus software, which often doesn't detect adware.
As for the other issues, it sounds like you've got some serious corruption. I would be inclined to say it sounds like a failing drive, except it sounds like you just got it replaced. How did you get all your files back after the new drive was installed?

DNG Converter suddenly stopped working, won't read NEF files

Hi all, I'm new here, but am looking for some help.
I currently am on a mac book and run photoshop CS3. I've been shooting with a nikon d700 in raw. When I upload the photos to my computer I've previously run them through the DNG converter without a problem. Now, for the past two days it has just stopped working. When I try to convert the NEF files, they are just greyed out, I can't select anything. I tried reinstalling the DNG converter, but still no luck.
I never had any issues with it before, and now it suddenly won't read my files. Any ideas what could be wrong?

Had you run the DNG on a Mac before? On the Mac, the DNG Converter works on folders only, not on individual files (unless you use the Finder to drop the icons of your raw files on the DNG Converter application icon). From within the application, using File > Open, the icon and names of individual raw files will always appear grayed out.
You need to target the folder that contains the files you want to convert.
CAVEAT: all eligible files in the folder will be converted, including any and all DNG files that may already be contained in the folder. So if you have any DNGs in that folder, they will also be converted again and the original DNGs may be overwritten.

Probably you must update Toshiba Reel Time as well?! After Adobe Reader X installation I would update Reel Time too that can be downloaded on official Toshiba website.
Furthermore I would also run CCleaner that is a freeware cleaner to delete old registry keys and keep the registry clean.

ICloud services stop working suddenly? Read if you use OpenDNS

If your iCloud services like Find My Friends or Find My iPhone have stopped working on your devices recently while connected to your wifi network, and you get errors about not being connected to the Internet, and you use OpenDNS domain filtering services on your network, you might want to add icloud.com to your OpenDNS whitelist. It appears that they just added icloud.com to various blocking filters like chat, file storage, etc.
You'll know if OpenDNS is blocking your access if you use your desktop browser to go to iCloud.com and you get the OpenDNS block page. That's how I finally figured out what the problem was. I was going to try to log into iCloud from my browser to make sure my account was not hacked.
I wonder how many support calls Apple is getting because of this...
Anyway, I hope this helps others who might find themselves with icloud services not working suddenly on their devices.

Thanks for your posting. I observed the same situation at my location and it seems that someone inserted the "icloud.com" domain in the "Instant Messaging" category as I block that one.
At the moment of writing these lines, the "icloud.com" domain is part of the following categories at OpenDNS:
Instant messaging
Chat
File storage
Webmail
Software/Technology
Some solutions will be for you to either whitelist the entire 'icloud.com" domain or allow the above mentionned categories.

Text search stopped working in Adobe Reader X

We create a weekly report that is posted in a shared network directory for multiple user access. These pdf files can be accessed by Adobe reader or full Adobe as needed. The reports are created in the same manner each week by printing an electronic file to the Adobe PDF printer. The reports generated after the 10th of January are no longer searchable. Any report before that date can be opened and when a search is performed the occurrances are highlighted as needed and can be jumped to by clicking on the search list created. Any report created after January 10, yields no results. This despite the visible presence of the search word or words in the visible document. The search mechanism is looking at the file and all of its pages but producing no results. I have looked at the document properties and can find no difference in their properties or behavior. Anyone have any ideas as to what might contribute to this change? As these are public record reports, I can send copies for analysis if needed. Thanks for any help.

First -In context of your post above this one it might be a good thing to slick those files sooner rather than later.
While present in the account they are available to the "world" through the links.
The two pre-Jan 10 PDFs have content mastered in a word processing application.
I'd say it was MS Word as the PDFs were produced via printing with Adobe Distiller 9 (installed by Acrobat 9 Standard or Pro).
A File > Print > Adobe Printer selected.
The Distiller job option used had PDF version 1.5 (associated with release of Acrobat 6) selected; so, that's the version of the two PDFs.
These PDFs both have renderable text rather than hidden text associated with OCR output.
Both PDFs, as outputs of Adobe's 'Acrobat' product are ISO 32000-1 (ISO's PDF standard) compliant.
Consequently, Acrobat's Catalog index / Search feature encounters a "well-formed" (Standards compliant) PDF.
The post-Jan10 PDFs were also sourced from a word processing application (again, I'd say MS Word).
However, the free PrimoPDF application developed the PDF output.
The PDFs contain renderable and hidden text. It is as if the initial output PDF was and image and that was sent through an OCR process that replaced recognized characters with a renderable character and left unrecognized characters as hidden text.
Consequence: What Catalog index / Search / Find can 'grab' is not the same as what you 'see'.
In sum, post Jan 10 the way the PDFs were produced changed. That is the crux of it.

The battery meter on my iPhone stopped working, it always reads full?

A few days ago my iPhone's battery bar stopped accurately reporting how much power I have. I hoped the new software upgrade would fix it, but it's still broken. Is there a common troubleshooting method for this malfunction? Is it common? What do I do, I'm super paranoid that it's just gonna suddenly die on me! Thanks.

Allow your iPhone's battery to run completely down - let it die - preferably when you are at home. When the battery reaches that level, your iPhone will power off automatically.
Plug your iPhone in and charge it to full. This should re-calibrate the battery indicator.
If this doesn't resolve it, time to give AppleCare a call at (800) 694-7466, or make an appointment at an Apple Store if there is one nearby.

Highlights stopped working for Leopard

When I go to the apple icon or any other item such as file I dont get the highlight for this and if I want the highlight to show I need to hold down the right mouse button. This has never happened before and I have not changed any of my setting so what is going on?

If you mean moving the mouse over a menubar item causes it to highlight, then that never happens. You always had to click on a menu item before it highlighted. Once you did that, then moving the cursor over other menu items does highlight them and cause the dropdowns to occur. BTW, this with a mighty mouse, but all options turned off.

Time Machine just stopped working, Disk Repair & Read Only errors

So my TM backups have been running fine for at least six months now.
Today I started to get this error:
"Disk Repair
The disk "xxxxxx" was not repairable by this computer. It is being made available to you with limited functionality. You must back up your data and reformat the disk as soon as possible."
followed by
"Time Machine Error
The backup volume is read only.
To select a different volume, open System Preferences and choose Time Machine"
I've searched high and low for a solution to no avail.
Here's what I've tried so far.
Attached disk to iMac, repaired the disk. It now verifies with no errors.
Changed permissions on the disk to 644 through terminal as per an Apple article.
Rebooted iMac several times, zapped PRAM.
Anyone have any ideas as to why this is suddenly happening? I would really hate to have to reformat the disk and start from scratch. This is very frustrating, I've changed nothing.

This was posted in the Apple Discussions by V.K. I have only modified it slightly to be more generic.
The problem seems to be that 10.5.6 changes permissions on a file so that even the root user doesn't have write peivileges. I have no idea why they did this. The workaround suggested in [an]other post will probably work, too, but i did something less drastic. Instead of deleting the file I changed permissions on it, and it worked just fine. An added benefit is that the permission change seems to stick, so you don't have to delete the file every time you change a drive.
[Open the Terminal application in your Utilities folder. At the prompt [enter] the following command:
sudo chmod 644 /volumes/"TM drive name"/.xxxxxxxxxxxx
The name of the file .xxxxxxxxxxxx is based on the MAC address of your computer and will be different for every computer. Put the name of the TM drive in the above and keep the quotes.
You'll have to enter your admin password (which you won't see) which is normal.

Open the Terminal application in your Utilities folder. At the prompt enter or paste the following command line then press RETURN.
defaults write com.apple.finder AppleShowAllFiles TRUE
To turn off the display of invisible files and folders enter or paste the following command line and press RETURN.
defaults write com.apple.finder AppleShowAllFiles FALSE
Alternatively you can use one of the numerous third-party utilities such as TinkerTool or ShowHideInvisibleFiles - VersionTracker or MacUpdate.

Adobe Reader (9.4 / 10.1.1) has stopped working

I use Adobe Reader extensively in my occupation. A few days ago I updated to 10.1.1 and soon was unable to open .pdf documents. Error message was "Adobe Reader 10.1.1 has stopped working". I uninstalled 10.1.1 and reinstalled Adobe 9.4 - it opened a few documents and then started coming up with error message "Adobe Reader 9.4 has stopped working". Adobe reader is critical to my occupation and I've now lost nearly 2 days productivity.
Am running Windows 7 32 bit.
Anyone got any solutions for me?

NO, just a windows pop-up with the message:
     "Microsoft Windows
     Adobe Flash player Installer/Uninstaller 10.1
     r85 has stopped working
     A problem caused the program to stop working correctly.
     Windows will close the program and notify you if a solution is
     available."
And then just the option to "close program". This happens at the point of me trying to install the
program from the saved download on my desktop, directly through a website or any other method I've tried.

Mail and Notes stopped working on my Macbook after 10.8.5 upgrade iOS7 upgrade

I recently upgraded my system to 10.8.5.
I also recently upgraded my 2 iphones to iOS7.
Then i found out my Notes were not syncing on my macbook pro, but the sync works fine on both iphones and when i check the iCloud website, they are also updated.
Then mail also stopped working and after reading some posts on this forum, i understand that mail and notes are somehow connected (both using IMAP?)..
I can't configure my iCloud email account on the mail app, i get a "iCloud IMAP « p03-imap.mail.me.com » not responding" answer, whatever i do. I tried deleting the account, deleting all entries linked to the mail app in the keychain, changing my iCloud password to match new apple password requirements.... nothing works.
And all my other email accounts don't work anymore either. Mail just won't connect with any Imap or Pop server.
My internet works fine, I can access all those emails account via webmail interfaces.
Again, my iCloud works fine on all other iOS7 devices.
What's the problem??

Hold down the option key and go to Finder/Go, then select your User Library. Select Containers/com.apple.mail. Move the folder com.apple.mail to your desktop. You must move the entire folder, not just the contents.
Re-launch Mail and test. If the problem is solved, recreate any required Mail settings and import any emails you want to save from the folder on the desktop. You can then put the folder in the Trash. If the problem remains, return the folder to where you got it replacing the one that is there.

A1 Issue - 3 Bottom Touch Icons Stopped Working

Has anyone else had this issue? The 3 touch icons on my A1 never really worked great from the beginning but after several months they stopped working altogether. I returned it once to Lenovo for repair, they replaced my LCD screen, got it back, and right out of the box, they worked intermittently and now after tow days, the icons stopped working again. Lenovo wants me to return it again which I'll do, but this is getting very frustrating.

Why does my line-in audio port quit stop working while recording?

My set-up is a bit confusing, so I'll try and be very specific.
I record into Garageband via the following set-up:
Microphone(s) run into TASCAM 4-track -> RCA-to-Stereo Cable runs out of TASCAM into MacBook Pro via the single audio port.
This generally works fine for several hours, but the last 3 times I've had a recording session, the audio signal has dropped to virtually nil without any warning. At this point, even yelling into the microphone (with the TASCAM max-ing out) will only produce 1 volume bar in the "Line-In" system preference screen. At best, it sounds like a very quiet whisper.
My microphone is working (works while recording to tape) as does my cable (RCA - to - Stereo) when used in other situations. Any ideas as to why this is happening? Am I tripping some sort of internal line-in volume...protector? (Is that even a thing?) Or do I need a new audio port?
