Hiring Someone to Create a Customized Aperture Web Journal Template

I'm interested in creating a customized Web Journal template for Aperture. Does anyone know anybody out there I could hire to do such a project?

The BEST way in my opinion is nothing mentioned in this forum:
LIGHTSCRIBE BABY!!!!!!!!
Laser burn ANY image on the DVD just like Hollywood Movies baught in a store.
I paid $175.00 for a Lacie Dual Layer DVD Burner and it included Toast Titanium 7 and LightScribe Software - Best of all works on MACs ONLY (not PeeCee's) and produces flawless DVD's regardless of Brand name.
No ink jets to buy! No paper to buy! No stupid bulky printer to have on your desk! Just a slim Stainless Steel looking DVD Burner that puts to shame Apple's own SuperDrive OR any Label or Printer kit on the market today.

  • A method to create completely customized photo book page templates from scratch in Lightroom 5

I was able to successfully create completely customized Lightroom 5 page templates (including altering the number of, positions, and sizes of pictures) by making edits to the templatePages.lua file(s) in the Lightroom directory tree.  I have never heard of the LUA file format before, but it is ASCII and looks somewhat like XML, so it was fairly easy to decipher.  Here is a high-level description of how I did it.  This applies to Lightroom 5 on Windows 7.  If this doesn't make any sense to you, then don't try it - you're likely in over your head.  Although my description is brief and lacking in detail, it should enable someone who is capable of handling this to figure it out with a little of careful trial and error.  Do this at your own risk - if you screw-up your installation, catalog, or computer, it's your own fault.  It all worked great for me.
First, open the "<lightroom 5 install directory>\Templates\Layout Templates" folder.  Then navigate to the template set that contains the template you would like to use as a starting point for the new template.  For example, "12x12-blurb\clean12x12".  Make a back-up copy of the templatePages.lua file in case you mess something up and want to revert.
There will be a bunch of .jpg files in this directory that each contain a preview image of the layout that carries the same name as the .jpg file.  Find the one that you would like to use as a starting point.  Take note of the name of the file, which is probably something similar to "page_26_preview.jpg".   Duplicate the file and rename it to something unique, such as "dummy_preview.jpg".  It's just temporary, so it doesn't matter what name you pick, provided it is a legal file name with no spaces.
Next, open the templatePages.lua file in a text editor.  I suggest using one that can automatically recognize and format ULA (such as Notepad++, which is open source and free to use).  Then search the file for the unique portion of the file name you took note of earlier, such as "page_26".  It will point you to a section in the LUA file that describes that particular template.  Carefully copy that entire section, including a balanced number of brackets (starting with the two brackets and commas before "children" and ending with the one bracket and comma after the "title" line.  Paste the copied text into the end of the file on a new line immediately following the bracket and comma after the "title" field for the last page template section (right near the end of the file).  Change the "previewName" field to the name of the preview file copy that you created ("dummy_preview.jpg" for me) and the "name" field to the name of the new template you're creating ("dummy" for me, since it is just temporary).  Next change at least one of the hex characters in the "pageID" field such that the new template will have a unique page identifier.
Now you can make edits to the photo and text fields included in the new section, using other templates in the template file as examples.  "x" and "y" fields are coordinates (in pixels) for the bottom-left corner of the picture or text field, "height" and "width" are the width of the field in pixels.  The fields should be mostly self-explanatory, but make sure that the "photoindex" fields are filled-in starting from 1 to N, where N is the number of pictures in the template, with no duplicates or gaps.  They do not need to be in order.  Treat the "textIndex" fields similarly for text fields.  If you want to add an additional picture or text field, simply copy the section describing a picture or text field from another template and paste it, carefully, into the new template that you are creating.
Once you are done, save the file (you may get interference from Windows UAC, in which case save the file elsewhere and the move it back to the correct directory).  Then open Lightroom.  Create a new photobook, and choose the new template for one of the pages, remembering that the preview image will look like the JPG that you copied.  Voila!  If you didn't screw anything up, you should see a page based on your new template.  Then right-click the page and select "Save as custom page", which will cause a fresh preview file to be created for your new template and your template to be copied to the "custom pages" section of the template menu.  The new section you added to the "templatePages.lua" and the "dummy" preview file can now be deleted, since they are no longer needed.  I save them so that I may simply overwrite them the next time I need to create a customized template.
Enjoy, and please share any clarifications, corrections, or enhancements to my process.

This post was great!  Thank you so much.  But I am hoping you know one more thing related to this.  In the "transform" section of the definition (where the x/y coordinates are set along with height and width) there is an option called "angle".  I was hoping that changing this value would allow me to offset the angle of the picture.  However, if I put any value there other than 0 the template becomes unusable.
Do you happen to know what this option does?
I haven't looked into the files, so this is just a guess based on how some graphic applications work. It's common to think of rotating a shape as pivoting around a center point, but It's possible that the file sets a value for the rotation point not at the center. In some graphics applications, you can set a shape's pivot at any corner or in the middle of any side, of the rectangle that contains the whole shape.
So, your value may be rotating the shape around a pivot that moves the shape into some area that upsets the behavior of other shapes. Just a thought.

Peter's point is a good one.  I would also assume that the "angle" property allows you to rotate an image, but I haven't tried it myself.  One thing to investigate - are there any page templates included in LR that have image placeholders that are at an angle (I don't recall any, off-hand)?  If so, looking at the associated .lua file could provide insight into how an angled image placeholder should be described.

  • Web Journal Templates - Options for Different Ones?

I'd like to be able to create my own Web Journal templates. The ones provided by apple are . . . uninspired. Yes, I know I can tweak anything after export in an HTML editor, but I'd rather do it right the first time. Has anyone looked into Aperture 2.0's templates? Are they extensible or expandable. I cannot find anything the manual or on this forum. Thanks.

yes, mod_plsql for Apache (the core of Oracle 9iAS) allows you to make PL/SQL calls from a browser environment and return HTML. the entire Oracle Portal product is written using this mechanism.
learning JSP from scratch, and learning how to manage security, database connections and record sets would be a daunting task. if you want to learn Java, great. it's my favority web language. however, if you have PL/SQL experience and a need to get information to the web, use mod_plsql and generate dynamic content via PL/SQL and the database.
    good luck,

  • Aperture Web Journal - image quality?

    Hi,
I process pictures for web in Photoshop and then back to AP3. Everything is fine and picture is just like I want. So I do this because of this AP Export problem with sharpening when you rezize pictures to web size.
When I create new Web Journal the image loses it's sharpnes. If I don't do something wrong, it means that AP3 Web function is worthless to me. In iWeb, I think, quality is better, but with AP3 it's so easy to make web pages.

Suggest that you contact Epson by phone, email and/or check out their Epson cx7800 Troubleshooting Guide link for answers. Did the printer come with a manual?
You posted no system info. Therefore, I also suggest that you also cross-post in one of the "Printer Forums" of whichever OS you are using.
    Good luck!

  • I would like to edit web journal themes. Is this possible in Aperture 3?

I am making a website to display photos of coral species, and I need the following flexibility from the web journal page. A) is it possible to edit the web journal themes within Aperture, and/or B) is it possible for an html programmer to take the outputs from the Aperture web journal export (folder), and programme these externally?
    - multiple hierarchical headers, with a different header for each page (ie. a different species name per page)
    - different sized photographs, on individual pages.
    - option to include custom metadata fields in the web pages
    THANKS!!!

It can't be done directly from within Aperture but it is possible to modify (or better) create new themes.
The themes are located in the Aperture application bundle under Contents/Resources/WebThemes in subfolders by theme name. A good html progamer shouldn't have to much trouble figuring out whats what.

  • Aperture Web Galleries, .Mac and the new iLife '08

Was anyone else as dismayed as me to see that the fantastic new Web Galleries that unify the new iPhoto with .Mac don't appear to work with Aperture.
This clearly is designed to drive us Aperture users to remain dependent on purchasing iLife, even though most of us are moving away from (or have moved completely away from) needing iPhoto. To be honest I really don't need any of the iLife suite now that I have Aperture.
But I want/need that great looking Web Gallery (notice that it shares the same name as an Aperture "feature" - which looks dreadfully boring when compared to this product).
As someone who has paid the Premium for Aperture and .Mac I really think we deserve to have at least an equally attractive product that integrates smoothly with .Mac.
Yes I know I sound bitter - and here is why - Had I bought my MacBook Pro today and not seven days ago I would probably have a copy of iLife '08 available to me free.
But alas there are no upgrade coupons anymore so I probably need to stop complaining and give Apple more cash.

I'm in the same boat - jonesing for those slick iWeb galleries but not able to get a decent workflow from Aperture through iWeb. The inability to get ANY metadata out of Aperture and into an iWeb photo page - do they really think we're going to retype 200 captions? - is very frustrating.
I was going to see how much of the iWeb gallery functionality could be cloned back into Aperture templates, but that is probably ambitious - to say the least - given the currently rudimentary state of my knowledge of HTML, CSS and Javascript.
Is this indeed the case? I was wondering if iWeb 2.0 picks up any of the metadata from Aperture previews to automatically caption and title images. The example galleries look pretty slick, but I'm not going to re-type all of my captions.
    See this thread: http://discussions.apple.com/message.jspa?messageID=5541992#5541992
Currently, I design the backbone of my site in iWeb 1.1, create an image directory by pulling in photos through the media browser, and hang Aperture galleries off those photos as external links. I modified the Aperture web gallery template to give a link back to the iWeb pages.
Did you develop this technique yourself? Can you share more of the details (here or elsewhere)?

  • Aperture Web capabilities vs. iWeb

I am a relatively serious amateur photographer that has been using Aperture for a few months now, organizing and cataloging all my images I've been shooting for the past few years.
I'm ready to take the next step which is share those images on the web.
I don't have the latest version of iLife, which includes iWeb. Has anybody had any experiences with iWeb vs the web capabilities in Aperture? Is it worth purchasing iLife to get iWeb or am I better off using the built-in web features in Aperture?
    Thanks for your help,
    Julian

    hello, andreas
quote: "How well does GoLive work for ongoing content management?"
it is simple once you have a workflow established.
quote: "Suppose you integrate an Aperture-created gallery into your web site using GoLive and then make some adjustments to that gallery in Aperture, such as editing one of the photos or additing additional ones. You obviously need to re-publish the gallery using Aperture, which is as simple as hitting a button, but how painful is it then to incorporate those changes into the GoLive version?"
if i change a photo in an already made medium to large site say like a month later the easiest way to do this is to export the version from Aperture into GoLive (instead of the whole site) and update the photo within GoLive.
here's an example of a site built in Aperture (Web Journal),
for the animated .gif Final Cut Pro & Adobe's ImageReady,
    for uploading and tweaking GoLive:
    Built using Aperture
quote: "I'm contemplating the use of GoLive for overhauling my site."
hmm? might want to check the status of it since i don't know what Adobe's plans are for GoLive now that they own Macromedia Dreamweaver.
personally i would like to see a pro version of iWeb integrated with the rest of the pro apps.

  • Aperture 3 and web journal

I'm trying to post a web journal to my mac account with little success. I'm using the Export Web pages button with the destination being Idisc.sites.journalname. The exporting ball spins at the bottom of the page .... for hours but never completes. I cane find the web journal at http://homepage.mac.com/username/journalname but find that the journal pages and text have been completed but only about 5 or 6 photographs.
    Any help most appreciated.
    Mikey.

Hi Kit, thanks for the reply. I don't think it's a fault with Aperture 3. I remember receiving an email some time ago from apple saying that .mac would not allow new web journals to be posted after a certain dat. Any journals posted earlier would still be viewable on the web but could not be updated. It was around the time of the Mobileme launch and I hoped (after half-reading the email) that it would just be a case of using homepage.me etc. instead of homepage.mac etc.
If you look at the Aperture tutorials for posting to the web they only talk of Flickr and Facebook or Web Pages.
From what I can see, Aperture still lets you build a web gallery but you will have to post it via a third part service provider - which is a pity and and an extra expense. Aperture Web Journals are not perfect but they do allow text pages, which I really like. Aperture Web galleries are not as useful if you want to post photographs from various sources i.e. build a showcase of different types of work.
    Thanks again for the reply.
    Mikey.

  • How to create the Custom project System as Web Project

    Hi,
I have created a custom project system using this walkthrough. But
this walk through is targeting Visual C# project system. I need to create the Custom project system as Web project and set the start up page as index.html file. How can I achieve this?
    Note:
I have got the Custom project system sample from VS2013 SDK samples(https://mpfproj12.codeplex.com/).
But it demonstrate the Custom console applications only.
    - Abbas K

    Hi,
So you didn't even follow this walkthrough yet? If you did, how did you do it?
I failed to create such a web project system because I finally messed up my VS experimental instance. But it's possible to create a custom web project system, by following this walkthrough. Someone else has successfully made it, check this
    link.
The difference is that you have to use web project type instead of the console application project type. You could copy a web project's .csproj file into the VSPackage project and rename it to xxx.myproj. There's an error in the walkthrough that the AssemblyInfo.cs
file should be put into Properties folder and set the "Build Action" property to Content, "Include in VSIX" to true.

  • Difficulty using an Aperture Web gallery with Iweb and custom domain

I am not using a .Mac account. I do however, use Aperture to create web galleries. I cannot get Iweb to link to all my Aperture web galleries. Aperture web galleries create index.html files. When I link to a file called index.html nothing happens. Can someone please help. Thank you. Tom

You need to use the entire URL and have your folders already uploaded to your server.
Syntax would be something like this:
    http://myserver.com/foldername
Since index.html is default you can leave it out of the URL.
I don't use Aperture so I don't know the method it uses. I would suspect it allows you to name a folder for the files and inside it is the index.html file and maybe a folder of images and other support files.

  • Create a custom web template using VS 2012 with web features, site features sections applied

    hi,
Want to create a  custom web template using VS 2012  in my SP 2013 environment.  i know "Vesku" has posted a great artice on this [  based on prev. version of SP].
    here -
    http://blogs.msdn.com/b/vesku/archive/2010/10/14/sharepoint-2010-and-web-templates.aspx
i am  looking for a code based article  which has step by step process which provides how to add the site features, web features and attach the eventreceivers etc etc on sitecollection creation when i apply this template from central admin.
can anyone provide me any links / any source how to create a custom web template with one / two  custom features -  site features element and web features element , / master page etc ....
I am stuck with this. as part of my reqmnt, i need to create a webtemplate with all the customlistinstances, custompagelayouts, custom masterpages, custom appln pages, custom web parts.
    help is appreciated !
    Das

The problem is that Web Templates are deployed to a gallery in a site collection and aren't available in Central Admin when creating a new site collection.  YOu have to create the site collection without choosing a template and then choose your web
template when you first access the root site in the site collection.  Here's an article that discusses that process here:
    http://sharepointchick.com/archive/2011/02/10/using-web-templates-to-create-site-collections.aspx
Other than that Vesa's article is still the best one and works essentially the same in 2013 as it does in 2010.

  • How do I select and format fonts when creating a web Journal in Aperture?

I am creating a web journal in Aperture 3.5.1.  There is a not very functional way to create text boxes and add text interspersed with images.
I can open the font window, but highlighting text and formatting it in the font window has no effect.
In addition, the size of the font actually changes from paragraph to paragraph for no apparent reason.
How do I format text when creating a web journal?
After I have created the web site, I can open the html file and edit the source code, but this is very tedious.
    --Kenoli

    Hi
Do You mean by "front" and "back" mean beginning of movie versa the end of it
or Picture in picture effect - zooming into one photo then to another ?
There is a picture in picture function in iMovie'09 - but very basic and
to move around in a photo You got the "Ken-Burns effect".
Still to do this with 100% control there are only two good alternatives
    • QuickTime Pro ($30 QT-Pro update) - Hard to use very demanding
    • FinalCut Express ($199) - Hard to get up and running
(Steap learning curve to start with) - Then Pic in pic is dead easy.

  • Creating a custom view in WEB UI

    Hi Experts,
There is a requirement to create a custom view having few fields of oppurtunity.
    Please let me know which is better way of achieving;
    1. Copying the standard SAP oppurtunity view of component BP_BPBT.
    2. Creating a new custom view with user-defined fields.
This view should be displayed in assignment block of accounts.
Though the SAP standard oppurtunity view is available in BP_HEAD, it is not allowing to display the standard view again in our assignment block.
Could you please let me know the steps to follow for achieving this task. (any of 2 ways)
    Regards,
    Santosh

    Hi Santosh,
You have to place the following code in WD_USAGE_INITIALIZE:
    WHEN 'ZBP_BPBT'.
              CALL METHOD iv_usage->bind_context_node
                EXPORTING
                  iv_controller_type  = cl_bsp_wd_controller=>co_type_component
                  iv_name             = iv_usage->usage_name
iv_target_node_name = 'PARTNER'    " Node of the MAIN component
iv_node_2_bind      = 'PARTNER'.   " Node of the embedded component
                CALL METHOD iv_usage->bind_context_node
                  EXPORTING
                    iv_controller_type  = cl_bsp_wd_controller=>co_type_component
iv_target_node_name = 'BUTTONSAVE'    " Node of the MAIN component
iv_node_2_bind      = 'BUTTONSAVE'.   " Node of the embedded component
And if you want to access the component controller from a view, you can access it by 'me->COMP_CONTROLLER'.
If you are in component controller class, it is just 'me'
