HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\JavaSoft\Java Runtime Environment wrong

Hi,
I am changing my PATH (on NT4) for Java from JDK1.2.2 to JBuilder's JDK1.4, and get such error:
Registry key 'HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\JavaSoft\Java Runtime Environment' has value '1.4', but '1.2' is required.
What should I do? Thanks
David

You still have 1.2 jvm (run time). Download and install 1.4 runtime from sun and you should be ok.

Verify that the spedcified transform paths are valid" If I try to remove update 1, it errors "You already have this version of the Jre installed. Please uninstall the product through your add/remove programs utility before reinstalling". If I hit the OK button, I get "Fatal error during installation" (even though I am trying to uninstall)

As a possible workaround try offline installation which can be from:
    http://java.sun.com/javase/downloads/index.jsp
At the same time, if the above workaround fails the exercise is little complex. If you have tried downloading update 1.5.0_xx, then likely a .msi file is saved in the location as mentioned below:
    Possible path:
    C:\Documents and Settings\username\Application Data\Sun\Java\jre1.5.0_xx
Note: This is irrespective of installation failure or success. Replace xx with the correct version you are trying to install
There is also a bug filed where you can submit useful information to help finding regular solution to this issue:

  • Software\JavaSoft\Java Runtime Environment\CurrentVersion

How do I install version 1.3 java.dll. I received this error message below and I was hoping that installing the new dll would solve this problem.
    Error Message:
    Software\JavaSoft\Java Runtime Environment\CurrentVersion
has value '1.2', but '1.3' is required.
    Error: could not find java.dll
Error: could not find Java 2 Runtime Environment

Your PATH is pointing to a JRE 1.3 installation, but your configuration is implying JRE 1.2. This most likely happened because you installed an IDE that installs its own JRE (eg- JBuilder 4) after installing Sun's JDK.
    Solution:
Using your favourite registry editor (REGEDIT, REGEDT32, ...) navigate to the key HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\JavaSoft\Java Runtime Environment and change the value CurrentVersion to 1.3
You may also want to do the same for HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\JavaSoft\Java Development Kit as well.

  • Registry key 'Software\JavaSoft\Java Runtime Environment\CurrentVersion'

Server and client are compiled under jsdk 1.3. After a crash on NT workstation installed jsdk 1.4 on it alone. (Did not recompile client to 1.4) All has been well for first few times I ran client on the machine with 1.4 installed. Then client refused to start with following message:
    Registry key 'Software\JavaSoft\Java Runtime Environment\CurrentVersion'
has value '1.4', but '1.3' is required.
    Error: could not find java.dll
Error: could not find Java 2 Runtime Environment.
    Ideas?

I am guessing after installed jsdk1.4, you ran a few tests on the client before restarting the machine, so your java classes are still happy without knowing the registry key has changed. Then after restart, the registry has been picked up and there you go the complaint.
I am also guessing JDK1.3 compiled classes should still works in JDK1.4 environment without recompiled, at least in most of the cases. The registry check is some kind of JVM protection agaisnt version misuse. ??
    But all are guessing.

I noticed the JBuilder is using JDK1.4.So JBuilder is written in Java itself.
    ..while i had
    JDK1.5 on my system.So I guess,during installation,it
changed the registry settings to point to
    JDK1.4.....can i just set the path..instead of
renaming the folder???I would not expect an IDE to change the system JDK without permission. You can change the path (and any CLASSPATH) settings. However
(1.) Most IDE's would retain their own classpaths so you might need to look for these.
(2.) JBuilder presumeably contains many classes using many API's. Java is not not 100% backwards compatable. It may be worth checking the JBuilder site to see if anyone else has had the same difficulties before you do too much. I am guessing that they have some sort of noticeboard or forums. If not you can always change back later!!!

However it seems the "default java" part of the JDK installation is broken on that machine given the missing registry key error. A reinstall of the software is probably a safer option.

    1. Try re installing JRE.
    2. Check in the internet explorer --> Tool-->Options
there whether the browser is JVm enabled it should be in that list also.
    3. Then in the Registry ie; regedit
    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE ---- > Software ----> JAVASOFT---> Java Runtime Environment---> Click on it
then on right hand side you will see Current Version.
in which the value should be 1.4

  • The registry refers to a nonexistent java runtime environment installation

I was having trouble running some Java programs (not my own) in Windows XP, and in the process I uninstalled and installed JRE versions 6, 7, and 8, one at a time, probably in the order 7, 8, 7, 6, 7. The program that had the original problem only worked in V6, but some other programs stopped working. I went back to V7, and those other programs still didn't work. The message was "the registry refers to a nonexistent java runtime environment installation". The only advice I could find with Web searches was to reinstall the JRE. Needless to say, that didn't work.
So I looked at the registry, and I found that there were still references to V8, which had been uninstalled. The first was
    HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\jarfile\shell\open\command - (Default) = "C:\Program Files\Java\jre1.8.0_31\bin\javaw.exe" -jar "%1" %*
The folder re1.8.0_31 doesn't exist, so I changed it to jre7. That didn't work.
    Then I found
    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\JavaSoft\Java Runtime Environment - CurrentVersion = 1.8
I changed this to 1.7, and deleted some following entries such as
    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\JavaSoft\Java Runtime Environment\1.8 - JavaHome = C:\Program Files\Java\jre1.8.0_31
    retaining entries such as
    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\JavaSoft\Java Runtime Environment\1.7 - JavaHome = C:\Program Files\Java\jre7
    That worked!
So, there is a bug in the installer(s): if you uninstall V8 and install V7, the 'CurrentVersion' isn't set correctly, with the result that the registry points to a non-existent folder. The V8 uninstallation should delete these entries, or the V7 installation should change them.
Question: Where do I report this bug? Or, better still, would someone report if for me? :-)

    Hello,
Here's a direct link to the place to report bugs: http://bugs.java.com/bugdatabase/index.jsp
I would recommend that maybe you see if it hasn't been reported already before submitting it.
    Hope it goes!

  • How do I suppress the "Outdated Java Runtime Environment" message?

    Hi,
Does anyone know how I can suppress this "Outdated Java Runtime Environment" message?
I'm currently running 1.4.2.12 alongside the latest version of 1.6.x
Each time I start an applet coded to run with 1.4.2.12 a security warning appears titled "Outdated Java Runtime Environment" saying that:
"A Java applet in this webpage requires the Java Runtime Envronment (JRE 1.4.2 to run. You have JRE 1.4.2 installed, but not the latest release. Using an old release may present security risks. Do you want to run the applet anyway?"
    YES / NO
I don't want to upgrade to 1.4.2.19 and this problem will occur again is 1.4.2.20 arrvies...
So how can I suppress this warning message?
I can't see anything in the registry under HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\JavaSoft\Java Update\Policy that can be turned off.
    I've tried the obvious:
    EnableAutoUpdateCheck = 0
    EnaleJavaUpdate = 0
    Update schedule = 0
In fact, everything under "Policy" has been set to "0"
Any ideas? Is there an unknown registry switch or something that can be added to the startup script that turns off this version/security check?
    Any advice would be useful.

While looking for something else, I accidentally found the following message:
    [t-5253971]
The 3rd post in that thread (i.e. the 2nd reply) claims to have an answer. I haven't tried it (though if you do try it I would be interested to know if it works).

As Miriam has helpfully pointed out, Pith Helmet is a Safari plug in. You won't find it in Applications, rather you'll see it in your home folder's Library/Application Support.
As you have now added, these difficulties are being experienced with all three browsers, then you can discount Pith Helmet as it is Safari only, but it was a relevant suggestion based on your first post. I use it to cut out a lot of the 'ad noise' you get on sites.
As Nathan has said, 10.5 should be working fine on your hardware, and agree with his fresh approach suggestion. But as you don't have the 10.5 disks to do this you need to get your own set of disks. Disks are not just software, but also have utility functions that you may require in the future. Also with Apple, legally, you must own the operating system installed. Currently you don't.
As you got the computer for free, buying a set of Retail Leopard Disks, has you still in front.
Prior to this, you could remove Firefox completely and download and install it again and see if that works properly, but that would be surprising as it appears to be some system wide defect and your thoughts about a malfunctioning Java runtime is a likely cause.

  • The java runtime environment cannot be loaded: different DLL's used?

A few time now I've ran into "The java runtime environment cannot be loaded" when opening a page in Internet Explorer as a domain user (with administrator rights). After deinstalling/installing/cleaning registry the message keeps appearing.
What I found out is that the PC's local administrator account (Windows XP) uses 'npjpi160_06.dll' for the SUN Java Console (Tools->Manage Add-ons->Enable or disable add-ons...), but the IE shows 'ssv.dll for the SUN Java Console when logged in as a domain user.
The SUN Java Console add-ons was not listed after the deinstall of all Java version/updates. But after installation different DLL's are listed for local administrator and domain user. When opening the same page the "The java runtime environment cannot be loaded" message appeared for the domain user, but not for the administrator.
So, why are different DLL's used? How can this be fixed?

I found that I had to modify the registery permissions on the key [HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Classes]. For some reason, some of my users that were power users still did not have enough rights on that key. With the user logged in, I had to access their registry remotely and choose to inherit permissions from the key above and remove all the extra permissions that were not inherited. When you access the registry remotely, you will only see 2 hives HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE, and HKEY_USERS. When you see HKEY_USERS, the current user will be the long number without the _class at the end.  This gave the logged in user full control of the key [HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Classes].

I am asked to install this update by an educational website.
    The sequence of events is:
    1. Message appears at interactive site on page "A plugin is needed to display this content." along with an Install Plugin button.
2.Pressing the install button brings up a dialogue box, "Plugin Finder Service" with "Java Runtime Environment" ticked.
    3. I press "Next" to install. New dialogue box comes up showing "Java Runtime Environment" as "Not available" and states that no plugins were installed.
    4. The only availablre option "finish," closes the dialogue box.
I have tried following instructions in help but these always bring me back to the same process. I have downloaded the most recent Java software and nothing has changed.

Hello Andrew, try download [https://www.java.com/en/download/faq/whatis_java.xml Java Runtime Environment (JRE)] from the next link : https://www.java.com/en/download/ . If you can not then try the manual way from the next link : https://www.java.com/en/download/manual.jsp (select the Windows Offline, filesize: 28.0 MB). In.... general, try to use the official sites when you install Java or flash etc.
