Holy carp, is this site slow!

I'm once again experiencing the awful slowness of a couple years ago. Any given page will usually take 30 seconds or more to load, and not infrequently I'll give up and reload after a minute plus. The slowness is happening more an d more frequently the last week or so. Sometimes killing and reloading mid-hang will bring the page back right quick like, but lately that's not even working most of the time.
Sun had this problem for several years and finally fixed it maybe a year or two ago. It's very disappointing to see we've reverted back to the bad old days at Oracle.

    OMG...This site is so slow to do anything.  Just scrolling up and down with the mouse wheel is choppy to say the least.
    Is anybody else having poor performance with this forum?

    If you install an add-on to Fire Fox called Stylish and then use the following style definitions you can get rid of a lot of the visual pollution of this new forum software. It will allow you to eliminate the childish avatars, allow you to control the page width, remove the ridiculous points earned, and change the background color.  My thanks to some very bright people that posted this new forum taming fix on the forum preview site.

  • Why has the big green box - 'This site is safe' disappeared since a firefox restart to fix slowness?

    Since doing a restart the green box 'this site is safe' isn't showing at the side of results when searching topics in google? It used to before I did it. Can't explain it in computer language!

    I assume that you mean that you have reset Firefox and created a new profile.
    A new profile doesn't have the extensions from the previous profile, but extensions that are installed globally can still be activated in "Firefox/Tools > Add-ons > Extensions".
    Note that we see a lot of reports that extensions created by security software cause issues in Firefox, so be cautious in case problem return.
    What problems did you have previously that you reset Firefox?<br />

  • DNS issues, iCloud and Internet Accounts on OSX System Preferences, Apple Web Services and Sites Slow/Unresponsive

    Hardware/Software:
    Macbook Air Mid 2013 1.3Ghz 8GB RAM 120GB SSD / Mac OS X Yosemite 10.10.1
    Issue:
    Occasionally, Safari, App Store, iTunes, and any third party app that connects to the internet using Safari's rendering engine in my case was SafeinCloud - all fail to connect to the internet. Changing the DNS solves the issue but happens again after that, thus you would constantly have to change the DNS. Apple.com, iCloud.com, Apple Forums (this site) would also all be slow to load and access.
    Troubleshoot:
    Changing DNS works for OSX, however for the slow Apple websites not so much.

    It may help to reinstall Mac OS X on your system. The directions in the article linked below are for Mavericks (OS X 10.9), but will work for OS X 10.7 and OS X 10.8 as well.

  • Problems using this site

    I may well have posted this in the wrong place but given the nature of the problem, I hope this will be tolerated.
    This site underwent a facelift fairly recently and since then I have found it almost unusable; in fact it was only through hammering at my keyboard that I managed to make a post yesterday which ended up duplicated - but I will return to that.
    For a day or so, every time I have logged on, I the site has ground to a halt - literally. I could browse to my heart's content until I entered my username and password and then it went dead. The Safari progress bar stopped about 15% of the way along. If I left the window open, I would eventually get a page with a yellow Post-It™ graphic saying something about the site being under maintenance - yet it would work perfectly well until I logged in.
    I had pretty much the same experience using Firefox which is vanilla so I eliminated all my Safari extensions from suspicion even though I had tried it with them disabled.
    At some point, I managed to find my way to a New Post page but not without dozens of refreshes, log-ins and log-outs. Unfortunately, having spent half an hour typing it up (the topic is a problem with slow text input in Mail and Safari), I hit the Post button but got an error because I had not entered the name of the Community. I tried several guesses but there were no hints, pop-up menus or anything - I had to try to type a Community name from memory verbatim! When I tried to open another page to look for the name of an appropriate Community, I was wading through a swamp again in terms of pages not loading etc. I assume that when the page functions as it should, there is a choice of Community. With the post I am typing now, there is no Community field.
    I did eventually get a question posted but having had the earlier problems, I copied the post to my clipboard just in case it disappeared into the ether when I hit the Post button. The first one did - so I pasted it into another New page and did it again.
    However, my post did not appear and my log-in issues continued. It wasn't until about 18 hours later that I managed to find it and realised that it had been posted twice.
    Now I find that my posts' pages are not loading properly and that I cannot un-Follow or delete either of the posts. As the page loads, I see a gear wheel icon appear with the word 'Actions' momentarily (only sometimes) next to Following and Bookmark at the top right - but it is a fraction of a second before it disappears. 'Actions' may include delete post but I don't know. If I click the tick above Following nothing happens. The status bar just shows 'Go to # on this page'.
    I have spent so much time trying to navigate this site to ask a simple question which relates to my not being able to use the site that I feel physically sick with anxiety. It's like some Kafkaesque mind game. I have tried five browsers; Safari, Firefox, Opera, Torch and Chrome - none work and as I have mentioned, I have tried with all extensions disabled.
    I am hoping that when I hit the Post button this time, I am not sent into another browser coma. I'll have copied the text just in case.

    Here is my ASC work flow...
    1) I login.
    2) Start an auto reloader.
    Unless you do something every thirty minutes you get logged out.  The forum software waits to tell you this as long as it can to keep you in suspense  ;-) .

    The best anti-virus protection is your own common sense, and what you already bought and paid for with your Mac. Third party products such as "iAntiVirus" convey no additional benefit, and as you already determined are very capable of causing trouble.
    OS X already includes everything it needs to protect itself from viruses and malware. Keep it that way with software updates from Apple.
    A much better question is "how should I protect my Mac":
    Never install any product that claims to "speed up", "clean up", "optimize", or "accelerate" your Mac. Without exception, they will do the opposite.
    Never install pirated or "cracked" software, software obtained from dubious websites, or other questionable sources. Illegally obtained software is almost certain to contain malware.
    Don’t supply your password in response to a popup window requesting it, unless you know what it is and the reason your credentials are required.
    Don’t open email attachments from email addresses that you do not recognize, or click links contained in an email:
    Most of these are scams that direct you to fraudulent sites that attempt to convince you to disclose personal information.
    Such "phishing" attempts are the 21st century equivalent of a social exploit that has existed since the dawn of civilization. Don’t fall for it.
    Apple will never ask you to reveal personal information in an email. If you receive an unexpected email from Apple saying your account will be closed unless you take immediate action, just ignore it. If your iTunes or App Store account becomes disabled for valid reasons, you will know when you try to buy something or log in to this support site, and are unable to.
    Don’t install browser extensions unless you understand their purpose. Go to the Safari menu > Preferences > Extensions. If you see any extensions that you do not recognize or understand, simply click the Uninstall button and they will be gone.

    If you elect to use "anti-virus" software, familiarize yourself with its limitations and potential to cause adverse effects, and apply the principle immediately preceding this one.
    Most such utilities will only slow down and destabilize your Mac while they look for viruses that do not exist, conveying no benefit whatsoever - other than to make you "feel good" about security, when you should actually be exercising sound judgment, derived from accurate knowledge, based on verifiable facts.
    Do install updates from Apple as they become available. No one knows more about Macs and how to protect them than the company that builds them.
    Summary: Use common sense and caution when you use your Mac, just like you would in any social context. There is no product, utility, or magic talisman that can protect you from all the evils of mankind.

  • 12ms response time... is this rather slow for a high cost display?

    I was waiting to buy the new 27" display but now that it has been arrived at a cost of £899 in the UK I am looking at cheaper alternatives, accepting that cheaper will probably mean lower spec. I am surprised to find that many much lower priced displays from manufacturers such as LG, HP, and Samsung appear to have faster response times, for instance 2ms or 5ms, whereas the Apple display's response time is listed as being 12ms. I think I am correct in thinking that a lower response time means that fast action video looks better on screen, but this doesn't seem to make sense that such an expensive and high quality display as Apple's would be slower, so am I misunderstanding something here?
    What are the most important figures to take account of when looking at the spec of a good display?

    You can look at other manufactures. Their price is usually lower. I have a HP 24" with a IPS LCD screen. Apple doesn't have an exclusive on IPS screens.

  • Internally hosted sites slow to load through proxy...

    Hi Everyone,
    We're having some issues with internally hosted sites and apps loading slowly while on the internal network. We host a Moodle site, a Joomla site, an Exchange 2007 mail server (sorry, no more GW), and a Senior Systems server. All of these, except for the Joomla site, have an SSL cert from either GoDaddy or Verasign. If you're outside of our network the sites load just fine.
    We're running a Netware 6.5 SP2 box with BM 3.8 on it and use the proxy. We use both IE 8 and Firefox (from 3.0 to 3.6) with either manual proxy settings with exemptions for the above sites, or a PAC file with the same exemptions. I don't believe the PAC file is the issue as the slowness still happens when configuring the proxy manually within the browsers. When a user tries to go to one of the above sites while on our network, the pages won't load for around 5-10 seconds. The browser will say it's connected to the site, but it just sits - and then the page will just pop into place. The Senior Systems server is particularly bad, as at times only the background color loads and a few minutes later the login box will load.
    We have our DNS and DHCP servers running on Windows Server 2003 boxes.

    otherwise i do not understand why bm is on blame of the slowness. As
    logn as you do not use the proxy, bm is not involved.
    Best approach will be to take a lan trace and see where the delay happens.

  • I have been really messed up and defrauded by your employee. I have the email proof through this site, besides witness's.

    I have a record of my email and post regarding my problems with Internet Explorer 11, with my Windows 7, not working and connecting to other sites not nearly working as well as Int. Explorer 10. I was just told by support since I didn't have a case number,
    I had no proof. My email account in Microsoft is the same as with Verizon. So, I have proof on this site. Now, after I posted my complaint reg. Int. 11 not working nearly as well with my Windows 7. An employee from Microsoft took control of my computer for
    the 2nd time without notice. I was SO VERY clear about wanting to go back from Int.Ex. 11 to Int.Ex.10. An employee actually restored by computer without me asking from 10 back to 11, after I had some issues with hackers. As stated in my emails to you, Int.
    Exp. 11 never seemed to be very compatible in working with the add-ons and communicating to other sites. The guy who took over my laptop without permission, I thought was helping, ignored everything I asked for. I worked through the night and for about 10
    hours with him. I had to make 16 backup/restore disks, per him doing all the actions through Homegroup. I didn't even know u could take over my computer controls without permission. He made changes after changes, while I mostly kept my hands off the keys throughout
    the night and the day yest. I was just putting in disk after disk when it would pop out and he had the notice keep popping up, when he wanted me to change disks. I have not slept or ate for two days, cuz I kept working through hardcore stress. I didn't even
    follow what changes he was making cuz it was going to fast with things popping up everywhere. I would just have to ender Adminstrator ID and enter a few items. I did not make an alteration, cuz I did not want to mess it up. He completely ignored my email/post
    about consistently wanting to go from Int. Exp. 11 back to 10. I was so ill and tired, that I could barely keep up. After working with him, by just inserting disks mostly, I sent an email at the end to Microsoft saying that I don't think his repairs would
    work. This due to many issues, but mainly still not getting the add-ons for my different drivers. I had Google Chrome, Bing and the Int. Exp. 11 I wanted reversed, cuz he still could not get all the add-ons to work, with red checks over them and saying disabled,
    as long with other issues. I just kept having to put in my Adminstrator  passwords and he used my guest access as well, which I never use. I was so frustrated. NOT NEARLY AS UPSET AS A FEW-FIVE HOURS AGO, when I found it was worse than ever and the main
    thing I complained about and asked for, Int. 11 going back to 10, did not happen at all. There was just Int. Exp. 11 and he even took off my Google Chrome. I had no idea that my computer could also look different with different users. Icons being larger and

    What I wound up doing was installing the newest of the newest versions of firefox (it's at 5.0 or something now, I think). That just made all the plugins, add-ons, and extensions I wanted to get rid of obsolete and it auto-removed them on its own.

  • How do I use the feature called, "Forget this site," discussed on the FEATURES page?

    The "New Features" web page lists this feature ( 'Forget this site' ). I cannot find it. Erasing the history, cookies, etcetera may do what this is supposed to do, but that is not a new feature.
    It is weird that this is listed and I cannot find it.

    Be aware that "Forget About This Site" does more then deleting the history, so be careful with using it.
    Firefox will remove everything from the selected site and that includes passwords, cookies, saved form data, exceptions (images, cookies, pop-ups) as well as bookmarks and history and cache items.
    It doesn't have any lasting effect, so if you revisit such a 'forgotten' website then data from that website will be saved once again.

    I am using SharePoint Foundation 2013 , i have backed up the site using powershell with the following command:
    -backup-spsite -identity http://dmsserver/sites/demo/ -path C:\SPSiteBackup.bak
    After backup finished, i can't access the site, the message "Sorry, this site hasn't been shared with you" appears, even the site administrator collection is configured coorectly, with the  Administrator account.
    Whats the problem?

    According to your description, my understanding is that you could not access the site after backing up the site collection in SharePoint 2013 Foundation.
    Could you access other sites at the same site collection?
    Let’s do a troubleshooting for this issue:
    Please delete the IE cache:  IE options->General->Delete, select all checkboxes, and click Delete.
    Go to CA->Application Management->Manage web applications, select the web application which hosts the problematic site .
    Click Permisson Policy, make sure there are not any deny policies for site collection administrator and site collection auditor.
    Back to the web application list page, click User Policy, check whether there are any user policies for denying permissions.
    Change the site collection administrator or add a secondary site collection administrator in CA, then use the new site collection administrator to log in the site, compare the result.
    Open IIS, expand the server, and click application pools.
    Find the problematic web application pool, make the identity of the pool is correct, then do an IISRESET, compare the result.
    If this issue still exists, please check the log file to find more information about this issue. The path of the log file is
    : C:\Program Files\Common Files\Microsoft Shared\Web Server Extensions\15\LOGS.
    Or you can use Event Viewer(Start->Run->event viewer) to find the log.

  • SharePoint 2013: A web analytics report is not available for this site.

    Hello,
    I have SharePoint Server 2013 and the enable usage data collection is enabled.  There is usage logs and data being generated, but SharePoint says there is not data available.
    A web analytics report is not available for this site. Usage processing may be disabled on this server or the usage data forthis site has
    not been processed yet.
    What can I do?

  • This Site Needs A Lot Of Work

    I have just spent over an hour trying to post a question to the support forum and have been unable to do so. I get an error telling me to correct the highlighted errors and try again. THERE ARE NO HIGHLIGHTED ERRORS. It is just a simple post with a subject line and body text. The error message doesn't tell me anything helpfull and I was unable to post my problem.
    I've noticed a couple of other annoying things about this site too. For one thing, I log onto the HP web site and when I go to the forums I find that I have to log on again. What's with that?
    Then I have to really look around to find out how to post a question. I get the feeling that you would rather people didn't post questions to the forum because you've done a good job of hiding the links to post a question. A user really has to search for it. And then you wind up getting an error and can't post anyway.
    So guess I'm going to have to call HP supprt rather than trying to solve my problem through your web site.
    This site has a TERRIBLE user interface.
