Home hub 5 slow ping response times on wireless

Ive recently had Infinity installed after being with plusnet for 2 years and having infinity before that. I was having some slow ups on wireless, nothing very drastic but enough for me to know something wasnt quite right.
When I run a constant ping to the home hub or any other device on the network from a device thats on the wireless I get about 10 good pings (around 2 or 3 ms) and then 4 bad pings ranging from 180ms - 500ms. Also get the odd ping that does not respond. For basic neowsing you would probably not notice but for an advanced user its frustrating. BT are sending a new Hub out but I'm wondering if this is a fault on all hub 5's. Has anyone lese noticed this? Can anyone else give it a go and set a constant ping off to the hun over wireless please and report back?
For info I have tried all the different settings, channels, ghz etc.
Thanks

Are you sure your wireless card is connecting on 5GHz? I had to manually set mine to connect to 5GHz or else it'd try and connect on 2.4GHz.
Yes it's definately connecting at 5ghz i'm even forcing it with the device,i'm getting a link speed of 433 mbp/s so it's defo 5ghz i'm noticing strange bursts of speed when using the speedtest app ie downloads fast for a split second then stops and so on and so on,same with upload it's dropped from 18-19 mb/s to 9-10 mb/s and strange bursts of start stop,i've rebooted the hub a few times now,i'm still using the open reach modem as opposed to the inbuilt one of the HH5 for cabling reasons.

  • Home Hub v1 non-responsive user interface

    I haven't used the home hub for a couple of years, but because of ongoing IP profile problems I've got it out of storage to use in place of my Draytek 2600.
    Using the internet works fine, but more often than not when I'm trying to configure application sharing, or fixed IP addresses, etc. the hub user interface just freezes and won't respond.  Only solution is to turn the hub off and back on.
    Is there a fix to this problem of a non-responsive hub user interface?

    Reset it to factory defaults by holding the wireless ass. button on the back of the hub down until all the lights go off and then try again.
    Yes, I believe it's a Hub 1.0.  It's white, and very old.

    What software version is it currently on? If its been in storage it probably has not been updated.
    It says firmware version 6.2.2.6.  Is that the latest?
    No, but it's the last version that allowed telnet access. Mine's locked to that version for that reason.
    I do find the browser interface sluggish at times, but I don't use it much as the telnet/CLI allows for much more control and configuration.

  • Will the problems I am having with slow Safari response times continue if I port the image of my 4 to an new iphone 5?

    As in many families, I am ready to upgrade my iphone 4 to a 5 and pass on my 4 to my partner (who has my old 3), BUT I am resistant to do so because I have been having problems with Safari, (very slow response time) ever since I upgraded to the new OS a month or so back. I have completed all the cleaning tips (cookies, individual app shut downs) and hard boot steps with no change. I can sit my partners Iphone 3 next to my 4 and when using Safari it beats it hands down, almost doubling the time it takes on the 3. My 4 is quicker on all the other apps so I don't believe it is a hardware issue. My tests were done using our home wi fi set up the same on both phones after running all the cleaning tips on both.
    I actually broke down and called the support line and the first level support told me if I upgraded to the 5 I would likely carry the problem to the new phone. She said she suspected malware or a virus and that for $300 she could forward me to second level support that could scan my phone and see what the problem is on my 4 and support any issues on a new iphone 5 OR for a one time lower fee $79, just help me fix my 4.
    Thinking through her options, I chose none of the above. Seems like I should be able to either 1) isolate the issue myself with the help of this forum or 2) upgrade to the iphone 5 and if the problem follows to the new one, get the support via the new device warranty. If the support person is correct and the problem is in the software and would follow the device, then in theroy I could wipe and restore my old 4 with the back up/data of my partners 3 and the problem on the 4 should be resolved.
    I really don't want to carry the problem to a new phone if I can fix the issue first. I have airwatch software to push my work email to my phone and that is usually a pain to do when I upgrade anyhow. I don't need to pay for a new phone that has the same problem as my old one. I will get grief from my partner for passing on an issue that will come up with the daily use of the old iphone 4 that I will be responsible to fix anyhow. I have invested too much time already to generate problems on both our phones. Thanks in advance for any tips or guideance about a streamlined way forward.

    Basic troubleshooting from the User's Guide is reset, restart, restore (first from backup then as new).  Has any of this been tried?
    FYI, there are no viruses that affect iOS unless the device has been hacked or jailbroken, in which case they cannot be discussed here.

  • Slow GUI response time on 680

    I just bought a new unlocked 680 to replace my old 650. I followed all the instructions to update Palm Desktop and sync'd my old data onto the new device. My first impressions are that the phone is good. However, I have noticed that the response time can be slow. For example, when using the navigation keypad in the main Apps screen it will get stuck for a second or so and then catch up. Also, the response in the Contacts can be noticeably slow.
    Is this "normal" or is there something wrong that needs fixing?
    Thanks,
    -Computerguy
    Post relates to:

    sluggishness of the device can be attributed to the number of files and applications on it.
    how slow is the response you mentioned? can you please state the time before an application opened?
    if it's going to take more than 10 secs then that could an issue with your apps and data.
    try soft reset and verify response again.
    if it's still the same, there is a need for you to do a hard reset.
    once your done with the hard reset, try your tapping the onboard apps and observe the response before doing any hotsync. try to see if it's still behaving the same.
    if it is still showing the same behavior. your device is defective so you have to send back for replacement from the store.
    if the device functions ok after the hard reset, you need to rename the backup folder in the username folder before doing any hotsync.
    this way, you are taking away 3rd party apps when doing the hotsync. then observe the device.
    if you have 3rd party apps that you need, you can install it again 1 by 1. if it's just PRC and PDB files, you can just go back to the renamed backup folder and drag them to the install tool then hotsync.
    it those are exe files, you really need to reinstall it again and then sync.

  • Harmony One Slow Key Response Time

    I've posted about this in the Logitech forums, but haven't had much success. I use my Harmony One to control my Apple TV 2, however the response time of the Apple TV after pressing a key on the remote is slow. It seems to take about 1 second between button presses for the Apple TV to respond. This makes it almost unusable as entering a movie name into a search field, etc. takes substantially longer than when I was using the original Apple TV remote.
    I've tried changing the inter-key delay from 500 MS to 100 MS and then 0 MS but this doesn't seem to fix the problem. I've seen multiple posts on various forums about this issue but I've yet to find a repair. I know that many people use Harmony One remotes to control their Apple TV's so I'm hoping someone out there has figured out this annoying issue!

    My Harmony One also works perfectly well with the ATV2.
    What type of device have you defined the AppleTV in the, oh so wonderful Logitech software?
    I previously had mine defined as a Mac Mini (when I used Front Row on my TV). All I did when I changed over to the ATV2 was rename it to AppleTV in activities. Under the hood in the Logitech software it's still defined as a Mac Mini.

  • Home Hub 4 with Apple Time Capsule

    Hi all,
    New to BT and, so far, all OK and really impressed with the speed. Trying to use with an Apple Time Capsule though and an Airport Express (for wireless printer) but no so easy. I have read so many posts about using bridge mode and setting us as follows but it will not work for me!
    1 : 'Connect Using' select PPPoE
    2 : 'Account Name' enter '[email protected]'
    3 : 'Password' and 'verify password' enter a single space (as in press the space bar once).
    The only way I can get this to work is to choose 'Connect Using' and choosing DHCP instead of PPPoE.
    Is there a reason why the usual 'Connect Using' PPPoE is not working with my setup - is there something else I am doing wrong?
    Thanks in advance

    Try using BT or anything else rather than just pressing space bar for your password.

  • Slow sampling rate = slow button response time

    (Disclaimer: I am a labview novice)
    I am writing a VI that acquires data from 2 sources - one via serial communication (VISA) and one via DAQmx (simple voltage measurement).
    Currently, our sampling rate is 0.2 Hz (one sample per 5 seconds), which I am setting using Time Delay.vi within block structures (see screenshot).  The data is being recorded satisfactorily, however when I press any button, such as the clear button (clears chart history), the stop button, or the record button (starts/stops writing to measurement file, not shown in screenshot), the button state change does not register until the next sample is recorded.  The result is a delay of up to five seconds for any action I take.  This is a minor inconvenience, but we would like to change our sample rate to 1/60 Hz, which will lead to up to a 60 second delay before any actions taken are registered.
    Block diagram attached.  I have removed all but the key functionality of the program in order to make it more readable.  Does anyone have any suggestions on how to fix this problem?  Any advice or suggestions are welcome, as I am new to Labview.
    Thank you very much.  Screenshot attached.

    One option for you is to put your user feedback (Clear Chart...) into a parallel loop that holds an event structure.  When the user triggers an event, by pressing a button in this case, that even will execute immediately.  Look in the LabVIEW help for info on Event Structures, it is well documented there.

  • Slow AJAX Response Time

    Greetings,
    I have an application that uses AJAX a lot to populate related page items. For example, to populate a list of models based on the model year selected. Usually, the process is relatively fast (2-3 seconds). But, I just coded up another use of AJAX and when I select the page item that fires the AJAX process it takes 1 min 40 seconds to finish. This code also does the model year/model aspect. A person selects a model year from a list, then AJAX is used to populate the models for that year.
    It looks like the problem is the size of the table I'm accessing. It has 17,000+ rows in it. It contains rows of model year/model data from 1987 to present. I've tried a few things to try and speed it up, but nothing works.
    Also, it only 'freezes' when the first year is selected. After that it builds the model list in about 2-3 seconds. Not bad, considering some years have hundreds of models.
    Do you have any suggestions on how to speed the process up? I'll be glad to supply code snippets if that helps.
    Thanks, Tony

    Hi Denes,
    What I am doing is relatively straightforward. There is a table PLP_MODEL_PRODUCT_LINE that contains Model Years and Models. I have 2 page items which reference those columns. I have the user first select a Model Year, then AJAX builds the list of Models for the selected Model Year. That way the Model Year and Model selected are valid. There are 17,000+ rows in the table. It contains years from 1987 to 2010. Some years contains hundreds of models. When a Model Year is first selected the page 'hangs' for about 90 seconds. Then, after the initial selection I can select different Model Years and the process is relatively fast, 1-2 seconds.
    Below is my code...
    - - Table PLP_MODEL_PRODUCT_LINE - -
    it contains several columns 2 of which are used by my processes - MODEL_YEAR and MODEL
    - - In HTML Form Element Attributes section of P55_YEAR page item - -
    onchange="get_model_list_product_line_xml(this,'P55_MODEL')"
    - - LOV code of P55_YEAR page item - -
    select unique MODEL_YEAR display_value, MODEL_YEAR return_value
    from PLP_MODEL_PRODUCT_LINE order by MODEL_YEAR
    - - LOV code of P55_MODEL page item - -
    select distinct MODEL display_value, MODEL return_value
    from PLP_MODEL_PRODUCT_LINE
    - - APPLICATION ITEM - - Used to store the value of the Model Year selected and share between routines.
    MODEL_YEAR_ITEM_1
    - - HTML HEADER - -
    function get_model_list_product_line_xml(pThis,pSelect){

    var get = new htmldb_Get(null,html_GetElement('pFlowId').value,

    get.add('MODEL_YEAR_ITEM_1',pThis.value);
    gReturn = get.get('XML');
    if(gReturn && l_Select){
    var l_Count = gReturn.getElementsByTagName("option").length;
    l_Select.length = 0;
    for(var i=0;i<l_Count;i++){
    var l_Opt_Xml = gReturn.getElementsByTagName("option");
    appendToSelect(l_Select, l_Opt_Xml.getAttribute('value'),
    l_Opt_Xml.firstChild.nodeValue)
    get = null;

  • Airport Extreme Slow Ping (Internet) Response

    I am having problems with my dual-band airport extreme.  When connecting to the external internet, I'm seeing high ping responses (>500ms) after about 5-10 minutes of resetting (hard reset) the Extreme and initially seeing 15-30ms response times.
    I've tried:
    1.  Moving the router physcially in the house (no improvement)
    2.  Trying different channels on both 2.5 and 5 (some, but inconsistent improvement)
    3.  Multiple hard resets and reconfiguring the Extreme
    4.  Reinstall the firmware (haven't tried going down in firmware)
    5.  There are no cordless phones in the house
    6.  Absolute speed to the internet is strong (above my provider's stated speed)
    7.  If I connect my Macbook pro directly to the cable router, everything (ping + speed) is great.
    8.  Seeing slow ping responses both on my MacBook Pro and a separate PC
    Any suggestions on how to troubleshoot?  Seems like it a problem with the wireless connection and/or interference.
    thanks!
    Dale

    had a 5th gen Extreme that I bought with 7.5 and immediately upgraded to 7.6.  Saw the exact issue you described.  exchanged it for a 6th gen Extreme, and am experiencing the same behavior again... both with 7.5.2 and 7.6 firmware.
    everything is hunky dory when plugged directly into my cable modem.
    third time's a charm, hopefully.

  • Home Hub 3 - Canon MP495 Wireless Printing?

    Hiya, my old fella had BT Infinity installed last Friday, and is due to have his router upgraded / exchanged next week.
    From an internet point of view, all is working very well and we're all impressed with it
    However, I bought him a Canon MP495 printer, so that he didn't have to have his MacBook Pro connected to a printer in order to print.
    So, I just wondered if anyone can give me some guidance as to how I can connect the printer to either the Router or the Home Hub, so that I can print wirelessly from the laptop?
    Am I able to connect the printer to the Router / Home Hub wirelessly? Or do I need to connect via an ethernet cable?
    Any help / advice appreciated

    Hi there,
    What I would suggest you do, is use a USB cable to connect the printer to the Macbook, in order to install any drivers, software, etc.
    When this is done, you can safely disable the USB lead from the printer/laptop and you should be able to join your wireless network, provided of course that you give the printer the correct WPA key (used to eastablish a "handshake" with your WLAN).
    Here you go Here's a link, direct from the Canon website that details the procedure better than I could ever hope to explain it. Click me
    Alternatively, if you want a little more control over the installation, Here's another link, showing how you can do it manually - In fact, I would prefer to use this method over the one listed above, personally.
    On a side-note, I would also recommend that at some point, you download istumbler to check for other WLANs in your vicinity and if needed, move to a less crowded channel.
    I hope this info helps.

    What is the best way to trouble shoot such scenario? Is there any logging available if a request fails or if there is slowness in response time? Also, anyway to find out which CDN nodes things are cached at etc?
    Thanks in advance.

    Hi - Our issue is not yet resolved.
    We have CDN connected to Azure Blob Storage Account. We let CDN Heuristics control the caching as our images (blobs) do not have any cache control policy set at this time.
    We enabled log and we are seeing such entries, one is below:
    1.0;2014-03-07T14:35:43.8958635Z;GetBlob;AnonymousClientOtherError;304;4;4;anonymous;;containername;blob;"http://XXXX.blob.core.windows.net/image1087175937.jpg";"/containername/image1087175937.jpg";abcc2dd9-cf8d-42c5-9e54-7dd9d96a3177;0;65.54.81.147:23347;2009-09-19;696;0;116;0;0;;;;;"If-None-Match=Tuesday,

    Are such entries getting logged because of CDN or why do we get these?  The IP address is a Microsoft IP.
    Based on documentation it seems:
    AnonymousClientOtherError
    Indicates that the anonymous requests failed precondition checks (like If- Modified etc.) for GET requests.
    Examples: Conditional GET requests that fail the check.
    Thanks in advance.

  • Apple tv 2 streams very slowly from my macbook when on BT home hub router...

    I have had the ATV2 for about a year and a half. On the previous Virgin internet and going via a Linksys business router we had no problems. Since we moved to BT, and were given Infinity with the latest modem/router, the streaming of films from the macbook pro to the ATV2 is too slow to watch the film in real time. It stops to buffer every 10 minutes or so, but each time for at least 2-3 minutes.
    The internet itself works very quickly, so it's just the streaming through the router that's a problem. Are there any router setting I can change to help it?

    Keith and John, thanks for quick response.
    I never opted in to BT FON or BTOpenzone, and don't recall them ever appearing when I occasionally searched wireless networks.  BT WiFi popped up spontaneously just recently.  I think opting out may fix the problem, but I would prefer to have the choice rather than being effectively forced into this.  I have been using encrypted connection for several years at the full 54Mbps before this happened.  I have tried to change the channel too, but no difference.  I accept that the wireless speeds are file transfer rates and are not actually broadband speed - the broadband speed has not been affected, it's just the wireless speed that decreased.  It's very annoying when I've been using the same BT Home Hub and laptop for around four years and now this has happened.  It seems ironic that I have to connect via the public connection to my own Home Hub in order to get proper wireless speed.
    I assume that no-one has reported different wireless speeds between their "direct" wireless connection and BT WiFi (or its predecessors)?
    Is there any way to access the BT WiFi configuration in the hub?  (The traditional software doesn't seem to.)
    Are the later generation hubs likely to avoid this problem?
    Thanks
