Host Solr/Lucene on Microsoft Azure Cloud storage

I want to host solr index on the Azure cloud storage. I have done some google search for this and all search result shows me this(http://www.interoperabilitybridges.com/Azure/Getting_Started_Guide_Solr_Lucene.asp) link.
In that link they suggest to download one Azure-Solr(https://github.com/Microsoft-Interop/Windows-Azure-Solr/tags) Project from GitHub. But it has already removed from GitHub. I have find alternative project(https://github.com/MSOpenTech/Windows-Azure-Solr)
on github for that but that is old and need many references to be download that are not available now. Please advice me how can I proceed now?

Hello Krutal,
Can you check this Link, which is about how to create Lucene indexes via a Lucene Directory Object using Azure BlobStorage for Persistent Storage.
Azure Library for Lucene.Net (Full Text Indexing for Azure)
and let us know if this helps.

  • Information required for Microsoft Azure cloud hosting

I am looking for hosting my application on Azure cloud server and would like to inform you that my application is in ASP.NET 3.5 with database on SQL Server 2008 R2.
Before we proceed further with Microsoft Azure cloud hosting, I would like to clarify some of my below mentioned queries:
    Hosting:
What are the plans of hosting along with pricing and server configuration.
How many applications we can host.
How much space we will get.
Can we deploy and run some exe, which we developed for sending email.
Currently we are using InProc session. What modification will be required by the application.
Can we point our DNS to the application we host.
We do development on our On-Premise environment, do we also get any staging/testing server along with production server.
Does the usage of application on staging server is chargeable.
How many instances we will be getting for one application
Does environment automatically increase or decreases the instances in use as per increase or decrease in load.
    SQL Azure:
Which version of SQL Server we will get.
Does SQL Azure is compatible with all the features and datatypes of SQL Server 2008 R2? If not then please let us know features and datatypes which are not supported by SQL Azure.
What all SQL Server version’s database can be restored on SQL Azure.
What will be the database size.
Will the database will be in the same datacenter where our application reside.
How many database we can create
How we can take database backup, is there any control panel for that.
How we can schedule database backups
Can we restore our On-Premise database with the database bakup taken from SQL Azure.
Can we connect database from our local machine with “SQL Server Management Studio”.

    Hi SanVerma,
    Thanks for your posting!
From your description, I think firstly you need confirm which one host service could meet your target. I suggest you could refer to this page about Azure Websites, Cloud Services, and Virtual Machines comparison:
    http://azure.microsoft.com/en-us/documentation/articles/choose-web-site-cloud-service-vm/
The above link could answer your hosting questions 1,2,4.
    Hosting:
    >>3.How much space we will get.
    It depends on your size:

Does the usage of application on staging server is chargeable.
Yes, you can do this. If you use Azure cloud service stage/production environment, You could be charged. If you use single VM to host your production and staging project, you could be charged the single VM.
    >> How many instances we will be getting for one application
It depends on your requirement, If the quota is not enough, you could contact the Azure support to increase the quota.  >>Does environment automatically increase or decreases the instances in use as per increase or decrease in load.

  • SharePoint 2013 on premises vs Microsoft Azure Cloud Migration

    Hi All,
we do have SharePoint 2010 on premises environment and now company wants to upgrade it to SharePoint 2013.
what is best way to approach means should we migrate SharePoint 2010 to on premises SharePoint 2013 environment or to Microsoft azure cloud?
if we do Microsoft azure then what are pron and cons about using azure cloud for SharePoint 2013 environment ?
if you say not to use Microsoft azure then why should we use SharePoint 2013 on premises environment?
    Thanks ,,,
    Deepak Patel

Azure, one of the larger cons is disk performance. Compared to on-premises, disk performance may not be enough without going to a higher level of VM (e.g. G series), which can turn out to be $1000+/month.
In addition, you'll need to establish a Site-to-Site VPN or leverage ExpressRoute to Azure in order to extend Active Directory to your SharePoint servers (for the servers and for your Active Directory users). You'll also need to consider adding one or more
Domain Controllers in Azure in order to have performant People Picker performance as well as Active Directory authentication for end users.
On-premises, these costs may be significantly reduced when spread out over a 3 - 4 year depreciation schedule, specifically for hardware.

  • Deploy Play Framework to Azure Cloud successfully but url is not working

    Hi!
Despite the emulator was working nicely, after I've published my play framework app and opened the link, nothing happened. I couldn't even ping the
public virtual IP. My one role instance is running, tried to reboot, no success.
I've followed the tutorial on msopentech (https://msopentech.com/blog/2014/09/25/tutorial-running-play-framework-applications-microsoft-azure-cloud-services-2/).
(Sorry, it says my text cannot contain images or links until they verify my account.)
Could you help me what did I wrong?
    My URL is: http://68bf950959ee46a0beb4d8f584a30c04.cloudapp.net
    Many thanks,
    Csongor

    Hi,
The ICMP traffic is blocked by the Azure load balancer and the ping requests timeout.
Note that while this applies to network traffic going through the external IP (VIP) through configured endpoints, ICMP is not blocked when connecting through an Azure virtual network gateway or ExpressRoute. Also, ICMP will work between internal IPs of VMs
in the same virtual network or in the same cloud service.
To test connectivity, we instead recommend that you do a port ping. While Ping.exe uses ICMP, other tools such as PsPing, Nmap, or Telnet allow you to test connectivity to a specific TCP port.
    Hope this helps !

  • Azure Cloud Services

Hello i think Microsoft Azure Cloud Services is going to help many companies to manage more eficiently their business, but i dont like your PAY-AS-YOU-GO Subscritions i think you should provide certain basic services with commercial ads, and more advanced
    with a price.

Filinto.  Thanks for your feedback here.
I understand what you're asking for.  Let me check if you are aware of some of the other ways to pay for or consume Azure Services.
First of there are the 30 day free trials http://azure.microsoft.com/en-us/pricing/free-trial/
second MSDN is another way to pay for and consume Azure services.
We don't have any plans to have an advertisement-funded model for Azure SQL Database.

  • Window Azure Cloud issues on SQL Connections.

    Hello,
I am having a real hard time establishing SQL connection between servers in Microsoft Azure Cloud network.
My configurations are  three (3)Window Server 2012 R2 in Microsoft Azure Cloud as follow:
    Server One-àAD-SVR-01
    Active Directory
    Window Server 2012 R2
    Domain Controller
    Public IP Address: 23.zzz.xxx.76

    Server Two-à SQL-01
    Microsoft SQL Server 2012

    Internal IP Address: 10.x.x.6
    Server Three à APP-01
    Application Server
    Public IP : 23.zzz.xxx.187
    Internal IP Address: 10.x.x.5
All servers are on the same azure network, affinity group, domain.
All servers connected to the domain and have IP’s.
Both SQL-01 and APP-01 joined the Domain and became member servers.
Both SQL-01 and APP-01 can ping each other.
    I disable the firewall rules.
However, APP-01 cannot establish connection to SQL-01 databases.
    Would someone please help?
    Thank you.

    Hi,
Please try to setting Folder Permissions on Web Publish, and then deploy it with Web Deploy, as far as I know, if we do that, Web Deploy will use the SetAcl operation to change permissions. Please have a look at the article below.

  • Publish cloud service fails from Visual Studio 2013 Update 4: Published Asset Entry for Image Microsoft.Azure.Diagnostics_PaaSDiagnostics_europeall_manifest.xml not found.

I have a cloud service project with two roles (service and worker). In Visual Studio 2013 Update 4 when I choose "Publish..." from the "Solution Explorer",  it opens "Microsoft Azure Activity Log" and quickly terminates.
    Here the log:
9:43:47 AM - Applying Diagnostics extension.
9:44:09 AM - Published Asset Entry for Image Microsoft.Azure.Diagnostics_PaaSDiagnostics_europeall_manifest.xml not found.
All works fine when uploading the package and updating from https://manage.windowsazure.com/. It only fails from within Visual Studio.
What can I do to get it working?

I have the same problem with our Azure project. Two web roles (service and worker). Just updated from SDK2.2 to SDK2.5 and Visual Studio 2013 Update 2 to Update 4. The main reason behind this was to move from log4net to WAD and in doing so, of course directly
move to the new diagnostics version.
Now, I get the same error message in Visual Studio:
11:45:24 - Checking for Remote Desktop certificate...
    11:45:25 - Applying Diagnostics extension.
11:45:45 - Published Asset Entry for Image Microsoft.Azure.Diagnostics_PaaSDiagnostics_europeall_manifest.xml not found.
With my small testing project - also two roles (service and worker) - everything is fine. However, I'm looking for a solution to make by existing production service working.
Also the test project shows no Microsoft.Azure.Diagnostics_PaaSDiagnostics_europeall_manifest.xml,
but this is no problem - so what's the meaning of or solution to this error messages?
    What I found so far:
I deployed the Azure project from the same development environment to another Azure test service: Deployment
showed no errors and the service is running fine! So the problem is not with the source, the development environment, library dependencies etc.
Trying Azure cmdlets for PowerShell also work fine for the new service and fails for the production service with almost the same error message:
    Following http://blogs.msdn.com/b/kwill/archive/2014/12/02/windows-azure-diagnostics-upgrading-from-azure-sdk-2-4-to-azure-sdk-2-5.aspx
    I tried:
    PS C:\> Set-AzureServiceDiagnosticsExtension -StorageContext $storageContext -DiagnosticsConfigurationPath $public_config -ServiceName $service_name -Slot 'Staging' -Role $role_name
VERBOSE: Setting PaaSDiagnostics configuration for MyWebRole.
Set-AzureServiceDiagnosticsExtension : BadRequest : Published Asset Entry for Image
    Microsoft.Azure.Diagnostics_PaaSDiagnostics_europeall_manifest.xml not found.
    At line:1 char:1
    + Set-AzureServiceDiagnosticsExtension -StorageContext $storageContext -Diagnostic ...
    + ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
        + CategoryInfo          : NotSpecified: (:) [Set-AzureServiceDiagnosticsExtension], CloudException
        + FullyQualifiedErrorId : Microsoft.WindowsAzure.CloudException,Microsoft.WindowsAzure.Commands.ServiceManagement.
       Extensions.SetAzureServiceDiagnosticsExtensionCommand
The problem seems to be related to those service configuration parts in the cloud which are not replaced
by a new deployment... So what are possible reasons or fixes for this behaviour?
    Best regards,
     Andreas

  • No Cloud Services when signing into Microsoft Azure Publish

When signing into Microsoft Azure Publish in Visual Studio 2013 (right click Cloud Project -> "Publish..."), none of my cloud services are appearing.
This has previously always been working for me.
Signing in using my Windows Live account (I am a "co-administrator"):
When opening the publish window, I get this popup asking me to create a new service!
Because as you can see, I now have no services:
I have no idea what has happened. Can anyone help?
I also tried signing in with the portal Administrator credentials - same problem!
I posted this same question on stackoverflow:  http://stackoverflow.com/questions/27544319/no-cloud-services-when-signing-into-microsoft-azure-publish

    Hi,
I have tested the same in my lab environment and I am able to find the list of cloud services.
Suggest you to try the below
Sign Out of your subscription by going to Publish > Manage > Sign Out
Re open Visual Studio by choosing Run as an Administrator and Sign In with your subscription and check if you are now able to find all the cloud services in your subscription
    Looking forward for your reply.

  • Windows Azure Cloud Service with MVC4WebRole template giving "Not running in a hosted service or the Development Fabric." Error.

    Azure SDK used - 1.7 & 2.0
When we create new project for Windows Azure Cloud Service with MVC4WebRole template & try to run it locally its giving error as "Not running in a hosted service or the Development Fabric."
We are aware that making Azure project as start up project will resolve this error but we want to run the application locally before testing it with cloud.
It’s not working with Cassini so we have tried with IIS but still it’s giving the same error.
In another project when we added ASP.Net MVC4 Application & then for that project we have generated the Azure cloud service project using "Add Windows Azure Cloud Service Project". By this way debugging it locally works fine.
Is there something additional settings present in Windows Azure Cloud Service with MVC4WebRole template which is causing this issue?

    hello,
According your description, I try to reproduce it in my PC.
    >1. I create a could project and add a MVC4 web role into project.
    >2. I set the azure project as a start project and run, it works fine.
    >3. I change the MVC4 web role as a startup project and run, it works fine too. Of course before this, I exited the Azure Simulator.
But this project was a empty project. It didn't included azure DLL file, such as Diagnostics file. So I think you could comment out the "system.diagnostics" node and try again. Also, you could refer to this same thread:http://stackoverflow.com/questions/13879443/not-running-in-a-hosted-service-or-the-development-fabric-production-not-debug

  • Cloud storage - how can I use my .png file shared in "public mode" like a hosted file ?

    Hi every body,
I am french and new on the forum so please be indulgent ! (for my english and my questions).
I am working on HTML signature for my company and I have a little problem.
to be viewed, my .png files needs to be on a server. So I remember that adobe gave me a 100giga storage for me to use.
    Cool !
But the problem is that the link only send me to a special view of my file... a jpeg one. So when I try to copy the url I can only use the .jpg
    I want my file !
So my question is : is it possible that the cloud storage isn't supposed to share any thing else than a miniature of my file and a download button ?
How can I use it for my signature if I can't acess it but only download it?
Thank you very much for your time
    Morgan

    Hi Morgan,
You are correct.  Public link sharing works as follows:
    -  you can share a public URL to your PNG file on Creative Cloud.  The recipient of the URL can view a preview of the file and download the file in the original PNG format or JPG format.
    -  it is not possible to give other users direct access to the original file in Creative Cloud.

  • How to deploy worker role to Azure cloud via portal

    Hi
I have two worker roles in my VS Project and I need them to be running on Azure cloud. I have created the storage accounts, the worker roles are using Queues, that I created using c# code.
I looked up some articles and they say I have to create a hosted services from top left corner, but I don't see any hosted service link on my portal. (I am thinking the new version of Azure Portal does not have hosted service link, probably been replaced
with something else but I don't know what it is)
Can someone please help me what to do after I create a package and have the config and package files in app.publish folder. How to deploy the  worker roles in cloud using the Portal
    Thanks

    Hi,
    >>I looked up some articles and they say I have to create a hosted services from top left corner
As far as I know, cloud service was called hosted service in old azure platform, see below old platform screenshot.

  • Creation of Microsoft Azure Website failed. The application already exists

Trying to create a new website, I get this error:
    Creating Microsoft Azure Website
Creation of Microsoft Azure Website failed. The application already exists. The remote server returned an unexpected response: (409) Conflict.
I succeeded to create this website earlier on and then I deleted it as I didn't need it anymore.
Now I want to create it again but I get this error even though I've deleted all websites, hosting plans, cloud service, etc from my Azure account.
Any idea on how to fix this?

At this point, I don't know how it happened, but we'll need to dig deeper. I believe there is a sequence that can cause problems if you create a site via Current portal and delete it via Preview, but I'm not sure.
BTW, it seems you have 2 other sites that may be in the same situation (deleted in a way that you couldn't recreated them). They're 'shortl...dev' and 't..d' (not giving full name to avoid squatters!). Do you think you'll want to recreate them later? If
so, we can do the same maneuver to get back to a good state.

  • Can a Worker Role process call Antimalware for Azure Cloud Services programmatically?

I'm trying to find a solution that I can use to perform virus scanning on files that have been uploaded to Azure blob storage.  I wanted to know if it is possible to copy the file to local storage on a Worker Role instance, call Antimalware for Azure
Cloud Services to perform the scan on that specific file, and then depending on whether the file is clean, process the file accordingly.  If the Worker Role cannot call the scan programmatically, is there a definitive way to check if a file has been scanned
and whether it is clean or not once it has been copied to local storage (I don't know if the service does a real-time scan when new files are added, or only runs on a schedule)?

    Hi,
I would suggest you have a look at this article:
http://azure.microsoft.com/blog/2014/10/30/microsoft-antimalware-for-azure-cloud-services-and-virtual-machines/, please note the Microsoft Antimalware Client and Service is not installed by default in cloud service, please try to use the PowerShell

  • How to develop and deploy multiple worker roles in single azure cloud services?

    I am Manikandan, From Myeasydocs.com.
We have developed our application as web projects.  Now we are going to move to azure cloud services, i have successfully migrated our application in cloud services and it worked fine. I am having difficulties with back ground task. i have nearly 12
schedule tasks in our applications. I need assist on creating multiple worker role creation and deployment.
Is there is any site on explaining the worker role process in details?
    Thanks in advance .. !!

    Hi,
In Worker role, Applications hosted within worker roles can run asynchronous, long-running or perpetual tasks independent of user interaction or input. It is a service component that is useful for generalized development, and may perform background processing
for a web role. A worker role is frequently used for long-running tasks that are non-interactive, but you can host any type of workload.
I suggest you to follow the below article which explains about Creating and Deploying of Web Roles and Worker Roles in Azure Cloud Service using Visual Studio.
