Hostname Issue

How do i change the hostname on Solaris 10? It says "Hostname: Unknown".

Okay, So I went into /etc/hosts and this is what it displays
# Internet host table
::1                          localhost
127.0.0.1                localhost
192.168.0.4            unknown  # Added by DHCPI changed the "unknow" to the name "solaris"
and restarted the machine and it came back up as that.
I'm pretty new to the whole solaris thing but this is a custom made machine on a home based network and my router is a Netgear Prosafe VPN firewall FVS318
My login screen is telling me "Welcome to unknown".. I dont like the fact of it always saying that. I tried the Solaris SXDE and it allowed me to select a hostname but then again SXDE is beta Solaris and buggy. Im sorry but im very noobish to this.

  • ZLM Server Hostname issue

Kind of a strange situation here but our infrastructure team moved our ESX development ZLM server to production and changed the IP to a production IP. The problem is now the ZLM server "sees" itself as the old development hostname. So, is there an easy way to fix this problem or are there deeper/further reaching issues involved?

OK, thanks for getting back to me. Apparently the issue is a little deeper than this. It seems the VM was cloned and deployed so we had four server with different host names and ip's all trying to be the Primary server for the same ZLM Management zone. I'm working with the infrastructure team now to remedy this......I'll pass on your response above but I think it was more an issue of servers competing to be the primary than a host name issue now.

  • Mac Mini Intel HOSTNAME ISSUE

Today I installed my new mac mini. I used to tranfer wizzard to move everything off my now "classis" mac mini. The old mini will have FC/5 on it shortly.
In "sharing" is the normal gui place to set you hostname. It is set there, no problem. The problem is I live much of my life in the shell. On both my PB and my older mini; I never had a problem with my hostname being configured correctly in the terminal. Now with the new Mini intel; I keep seing "new-host-3" while on the CLI?
I have checked the /private/etc/host* files to see if I needed to specify it. There is no place in hosts, or hostsconfig to set the hostname. BEFORE anyone suggest using hostname to change it; yeah that works, but will loose the confugration upon shutdown -r now.
    Thanks everyone
    gmh

    Try the /etc/hostconfig file.

  • Hostname issue with Mac Server 3.1.2

    Hi Everyone,
I have one stupid question, I think, and need your help.
I have one Mac mini, and I want it to be my file server. I have Mavericks 10.9.3 and Server 3.1.2 with it. I set up everything, and it looks fine. But when I use my client to ping the server hostname, backed me that: unknown hostname. But if I try to ping hostname with the server, worked.
Please advise if you have any idea about it. Thanks~~

If you're pinging the domain name, the client is not querying a DNS server that knows that name. It should be querying the same DNS server that that the server is using. Most likely, that's the server itself.

  • Change nis client hostname issues

    Hi All,
I have changed one nis client hostname from old_hostname to new_hostname in /etc/hosts file on the nis server. After changing, "ping" cannot find new_hostname.domain but find the new_hostname (without domian) and the old_hostname.domain. It seems that the IP node is still occupied by the old_hostname. Do I have to reboot the server or run any command to activate the change? What is wrong with this?
    Any help is much appreciated.
    regards
    vlsi

With the command " ypmatch new-hostname hosts.byname" it returns " IP new-hostname" but "ypmatch old-hostname hosts.byname" returns "IP old-hostname.domain". Something is wrong here. How to update the hostname plus the domain information is the key problem. Any help?
    best regards

  • MSCS Netweaver 7 Installation - Hostname issue

    Hello everyone,
I have a question regarding the MSCS installation (Netweaver 7). During the installation of the Central and Dialog instance, we started SAPinst with the following command from the command prompt:
    sapinst.exe SAPINST_USE_HOSTNAME=<virtual_host_name>
Is this correct? Or do we need to start the sapinst.exe without the postfix?
    Looking forward to your reply.
    Kind regards,
    Joost

    Hello Joost,
    After the installation is done,
just make sure your startup and instance profiles have the following parameters:
        SAPLOCALHOST = <virtual host name>
SAPLOCALHOSTFULL = < full qualified virtual host name>

  • Dhcpcd changes hostnames: renders X unable to open ANY programs...

At a random point after logging into my computer, dhcpcd (even after being disabled and stopped on login) kills and restarts my wifi. When this happens, X no longer allows me to open ANY GUI-based programs and I have to log out or reboot in order to correct the problem. I need a solid solution to this problem and disabling dhcpcd (plus blacklisting) seems to be the only idea I can come up with. NO on seems to be discussing this specific problem around the forums and narrowing it down to dhcpcd was a REAL pain via Google because it seems to affect people VERY randomly. I need a permenant solution because this issue makes it VERY difficult for me to get work done as I need to open and close programs fairly often on a daily basis. It has just about grinded my progress for today to a halt, which is why I'm here making this post now. ANY help on stablizing this issue will be GREATLY appreciated. It's really making my life difficult. Thanks in advance.

I am using dynamic addresses. I use networkmanager. I either use E18 or Fluxbox for my desktop (has happened on both... and on multiple computers). I only use networkmanager to deal with my network connections. I have not ran wicd in quite some time (never on the machines in question) or any other software anytime recently. I'm never sure what all information I should give when I open up help requests on here... no matter what I provide, there's always something I will forget or not think of. SO feel free to ask more questions so I can narrow down the core cause of this issue. The research I have done on the symptoms I'm expriencing have lead me to believe that it's a hostname issue that comes when dhcpcd disconnects and reconnects me. The hostname is changed, which renders X unable to open any gui interfaces because it's trying to load them on a hostname that is no longer valid. I have not found any info explaining WHY dhcpcd does this, but all the symptoms fit. I will look for the links I found said information on and see if I can provide them sometime soon. Luckily, this is a random thing, and hasn't made work difficult for me so far today, so I need to catch up on things that didn't get finished yesterday. Thanks for all the help (current and future) with this issue.

    the connection is running well.
Please any one can help me to solve this issue,
    Thanks and Best Regards,
    Chrisna

    Hi
I found your question because I wanted the answer to it too.  I'm trying to connect my Java-only stack portal to my ABAP-only stack BI system using the template in NWA.  I get through all the steps up to the creation of the WebDynpro JCO RFC destinations then it fails saying "ABAP Backend doesn't exist in the SLD".
I've checked the SLD and the ABAP backend most definitely DOES exist in the SLD and the SLD is being updated by both the ABAP backend and the Java portal systems thus proving a valid connection exists between the SLD and both systems I'm trying to connect.
I think I've solved it however.
I always define a TCP alias equal to the SID for any SAP system I build and I try to make all connections to <sid>.<fully.qualified.domain.name>.  This separates, to a degree, the physical server from the SAP instance.
I used this alias in the BI installation template but I noticed that the ABAP backend was listed as <SID> <hostname> in the SLD (not <SID> <sid alias>).  When I used the real hostname in the template it ran to completion.
The other change I made, and it's possible that this was the real reason instead of the alias/hostname issue, was that I restarted the BI system before retrying.  I only did this because I was getting error messages saying there were too many active CPIC conversations and I couldn't find them to kill them off.
Hope one or other of these things might help.

Okay, here's a couple of ideas. The "unqualified hostname" issue is because you need your fully qualified hostname (system with the complete domain name) in your /etc/hosts. For example:
    23.134.30.20 mysystem mysystem.mydomain.com
I'm not familiar with the other errors. Have you configured your /etc/resolv.conf yet? It should look like:
    domain mydomain.com
nameserver [IP of first DNS Server]
nameserver [IP of redundant DNS Server]
Also, make sure your /etc/nsswitch.conf is setup correctly.

  • SMC and RMIERROR in Solaris 10

I spent a while trying to find the Solaris Management Console in Solaris 10 via Java Desktop System so I could easily create a number of users etc. I found it and ran it and was pleasantly suprised to see it run OK first time. I logged in with root username and password and all seemed to be working OK.
At this point, my U30 thought it's hostname was UNKNOWN. I have since resolved this, but to my horror I can no longer use SMC. It opens OK, and I can navigate around, but when I try to go into a particular application I get an error message saying:
The "Users" application is not able to connect to the server. Reason: RMIERROR. Verify that the server is running. If it is running, try stopping and restarting it.
Number one, I have no idea how to check the server, or how to stop and start it, and number two, I have no idea what an RMIERROR is!
I noticed a message at the bottom of the SMC said unknown:898 not found, but it also mentions the correct hostname:898 is found. I checked the preferences and they also seem OK. I tried adding UNKNOWN to hosts also but that didn't work. I also tried to log in as a different user but again, it didn't work.
Does anyone have any ideas? Quickly, before I go over and start using the SGi instead!

I have seen a similar issue with SMC. I first invoked the appication when the hostname was "unknown". Later I resolved the hostname issue and tried to restart SMC.
For reasons I am not clear on it tried to open the toolbox on "unknown" instead on my host. There is a way to go into SMC and specify a hostname/tool_box_PATH which got me back working.
It was as if SMC was unable to understand that the hostname had changed and was trying to invoke the toolbox across the net.

  • Portal home page error after install

    Hi,
I recently installed 9ias on solaris succesfully into its own oracle home(db cache failed but not worried yet). portal install went ok, but i can only access the admin gateway and not the portal home page. I get 500-Internal server error. Tried checking jserv config - looks ok, I can run 'IsItWorking' servlet ok but still get error - has anyone else seen this - any clues?
    thanks.....

I just went through the same problem with a Win 2k install. The 500 error turned out to be a problem with my DNS and proxy setup. If I understand things correctly, when you hit the portal page (http://<hostname>/pls/portal30/ you are redirected to the real portal application. My machine is not registered with the corporate DNS so even though I could hit the admin pages, and the Apache test pages, when I was redirected to the Portal pages a DNS lookup was attempted and things choked.
I've fixed the problem, for now, by telling my browser to ignore the proxy server for my portal machine's name. But now I can only hit the portal from the machine it's installed on. The long-term solution is to get the DNS issue resolved.
    Hope this helps.

    Jasen,
Please check out the Standalone Laptop configuration option discussed in the Oracle9iASPortal Configuration options white paper. I believe it will help you resolve your hostname issues. The direct link to the white paper on OTN is http://technet.oracle.com/doc.pdf/iportal/config_options.pdf

  • Cannot see FQDN for ESR Repository in CE 7.11

    Hi,
I have CE 7.11 and when I open the page http://host.domain.com:port/rep, it opens fine, but when I try to launch the link for Enterprise Services Builder, it open the url http://host:port/rep/start/repository.jnlp but without the FQDN.
How can I ensure that this opens with FQDN?
Also, if I open this page manually with FQDN, then ESR application starts to load but then fails due to hostname issue.
    Please help.
    Thanks,

    Hi Shitij,
Can you please after updating IP and FQDN host in host file and run javaws and launch manually for http://<host-FQDN>:port/rep/start/repository.jnlp.
    Hope it helps

  • Making a BPM application available outside firewall

    Hi all,
    We have BPM version 11.1.1.6.0
We have developed BPM application (A simple form for the applicants who are external users  (to our network) and when submitted will be reviewed by internal users).
The application also has a customized ADF interface. This is working perfectly fine when being tested within the firewall.
Now we want to release this to the public users (who will be creating their individual accounts to use the application). We tried setting up proxy, but encountered a problem, where on certain sections of the application, specially when users are using 'SAVE'/'SUBMIT' buttons that are on BPM interface, to submit or save the form, the application fails with 'URL not found 404 Error'.
We have set up a proxy server for the prod BPM server, which will be in DMZ.
After digging further we found that one of the URL paths that was being executed when the application failed, is referring to the host name , not the the name of the server that is specified in the proxy, which would be its DNS entry name.
This is happening each time SAVE/SUBMIT buttons are pressed from the BPM side. Please note that these are default buttons provided by the BPM interface and we did not customize these buttons.
Is this is configuration issue on the server? or is it something to do with application configuration? We have been staring at it so long now, looks like we are hitting a wall. This is the first ever BPM app from our shop, so we are pretty green on this and would appreciate some expert advise.
    Thanks
    SR

    Hi SR,
These hostname URLs are generated for the SOA/BPM worklist app using the WFTASKDISPLAY table. You'll find the table in the SOAINFRA schema (you installed this with the repository creation tool rcu). The table gets populated several ways, but usually on deployment of an ADF Human task flow to the soa server. It can be modified after deployment through enterprise manager. Oracle do not recommend editing it directly. The supported way to edit it is to go to the human task service engine and find the human task. From memory - get to the human task engine in EM by right clicking the Soa in EM, then select service engines, then human workflow. You should find your human tasks in the lists displayed.
This may not be the the full answer for you but will hopefully get you looking in the right place to fix your hostname issue.
