How an aplications sever will communicate with Oracle RAC?

Hi, I wonder how the applacations server will communicate with the two nodes Oracle RAC. Do I have to install an Oracle client to the application server and configure tnsname.ora file to connect with the nodes?
Have any one any experience to share and help me?

I strongly suggest to upgrade to AS 10.1.3 to get this.
Think of future support of AS 9.0.4. You will get not critical patch updates anymore.

Sun Fire V490 x 2 servers with Oracle RAC facing Split brain problem

Hi all,
I have Sun Fire V490 x 2 servers with Oracle RAC and they faced a Split brain problem. One of the node's database instance has gone down, The DBA claims it is due to network problem, but as such the networks are OK. We use the on board CE1 interface for Cluster interconnect and CE0 as the public interface.
Did anybody face this kind of a problem? Could this be a hardware/OS patch problem?
I had kept a continuous ping for 24 hours after this happened last time and the output shows no packet loss

In order to diagnose this properly, you'll need to provide too much detail and far too many log files for a generic discussion forum to handle.
Use your service contract and open a support case.
Because a cluster environment is involved you'll likely end up talking to the cluster support staff.
They can analyze hardware and software errors as well as review whether you configured the systems in a supportable fashion.
Be prepared to make a direct connection to each system and gather data using such as by using the Explorer tool. The technical support staff will tell you what they will actually need.

I need to configure incremental backup with RMAN on a two node Solaris x86 with Oracle RAC 10g Enterprise Edition Release 10.2.0.3.0 installation.
We also use ASM to store database files, and have Oracle software installed on separate file systems (two Oracle roots for Node1 and Node2).
I have following questions:
1) where to put Flash Recovery Area (FRA)?
I saw recommendations to put FRA on the ASM, is this the best way to do it?
2) Can I put FRA on another file system (not on the ASM) which is available only from Node1? This way I can save space on the ASM.
3) Is it possible/recommended to run RMAN from Node1 only?

If you want your backups to be available for both nodes you have to use shared storage or tape using an mml library.
So if you want to use the FRA for rman backups and the database is on ASM just make ASM the standard for the FRA as well.

A2) Than you cannot recover in case Node1 is down. Best would be to send your storage admin to a training course so he can manage the clustered raw devices needed for ASM.
Q3) Is it possible/recommended to run RMAN from Node1 only?

How do VB Winsock component communicate with J2EE server by ServerSocket ?

We are designing a thin client and server software system.
The server is application server with java language, the client is application with VB language.
The vb client program using Winsock component connect to the java application server of ServerSocket by specifying port.
This system had been tested run for end user.
Now, we would like the application server turn on j2ee platform. we don't know how the JavaTM 2 Platform, Enterprise Edition SDK version 1.3 can communicate with the vb client program?

Your problem is not uncommon. You do have an advantage: your server code is already in Java. You have some options here. However, I am guessing that either (a) you're running out of time to implement a solution or (b) you're running out of budget. In either case, the easiest solution will be to build a simple multiple socket server client to run on the server. You can create multiple threads to talk to multiple clients via server sockets. You could allocate a port range to use. The clients could then use a randomize algorithm to select a port in the range. If already in use, then go to the next one.
There is a crude sample in the Sun Java Trails that can get you started.

I have been with 2 clients that have used Exchange Server 2003 for processing Workflow Notifications for multiple 11.5.10.2 with ATG.H RUP 4 instances. I have found that Exchange will frequently take 4 hours to send notifications and 2-4 hours to process notifications that are replied back to it. Outbound messages generally fail with 451 Timeout waiting for client input errors, but finally send after about 4 hours. If you doing a live demo that needs to make use of Workflow Notifications, plan on waiting and waiting and waiting...

I'm working on a project that requires a group of classes communicating with each other. I decided on using a server and carrying out communication that way. Hi Sandip,
All you need is a 32-bit Oracle driver to be installed on the machine you're developing the reports on.
If you already have both the 64-bit and the 32-bit drivers, make sure the Path variable under 'system variables' points to the 32-bit home.
You can then either create an ODBC DSN or use the 'Oracle Server' native driver that shows under 'Database Expert' to create the report.

in my case, I am trying to configure the OBPM directory using ALUI and its native LDAP service.
Now, I found that the first name and the last name in BPM are retrieved from the ALUI display name : provided we enter the display name in the format %first name% + %last name% we get them into BPM. But the display name is not always in this format...
In addition, it's the portal telephone number information which is retrieved into BPM Telephone and Fax numbers.
And, the email adress remains blank
I have installed the latest patch for OBPM (Version: 10.3.1.0.0 Build: #97172)
Would you have any documentation about creating a Profile Web Service in ALUI and specifying which LDAP attributes to map to which ALUI properties in the Profile Source ?
