How _are_ people maintaining html files on iDisk?

I posted this question somewhat differently here:
http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=2492507&tstart=0
and struck out.
So how are we supposed to download html files from our iDisk Sites folder, edit them, and re-upload? Is there really no market for such an app for iPad?
I've even started looking at some of the office apps that can edit text files, and at Notebooks for iPad -- but this seems really to be stretching what these are meant for. Anyone using them for iDisk html file maintenance?
It seems like the html editors can only do ftp (not WebDAV), and the office apps can do WebDAV, but I worry that they may not be very clean "text" editors. (I don't want the app to be making its own changes, just mine!)

I've purchased a new (for iPad) app called *istorage HD*.
In theory it would let me do what I want to do. But so far I've had some problems using it.
The interface (IMHO) is not immediately intuitive, but that's a learning thing, I suppose, since it is a "Swiss army knife" with a lot of blades.
So far the show-stoppers I've run into are:
1) it can't access my iDisk /Sites folder with 75 items in it -- though I have been able to use it on another user's /Sites folder that contains only a few files and folders. I have been able to access my other iDisk folders that contain a lot less than 75 items.
2) when I upload an html file, it somehow gets marked as an application/octet-stream on Apple's server. This means that the code won't validate, and some browsers, like Firefox and Camino won't even read it, and instead want to download the html file as a binary.
Here is what http://validator.w3.org/ reports:
"Sorry, I am unable to validate this document because its content type is application/octet-stream, which is not currently supported by this service.
The Content-Type header is sent by your web server (or web browser if you use the file upload interface) and depends on its configuration. Commonly, web servers will have a mapping of filename extensions (such as ".html") to MIME Content-Type values (such as text/html)."

  • How to call a html file in a java file

    how to call a html file inside a java file ?

    Hopeless. Are you by any chance a rare gas? You seem completely inert. LOL You totally pwned him there :rolls eyes:
    well, no, I think he's looking for something to this degree:
    in HTML, there is a mailto: command that makes the system default handled way to email emails open up. He's looking for a command thats very nice and opens a html file in the system default browser.
    So, Dick, Runtime.exec would work execpt that he needs a way to find the default system browser to call exec on, AND he has to know how to pass html file locations to the executable via command line arguments
    He just didnt try to phrase it at all :P

    hi srikkant,
    ur html code is inside the source code..? are you working on applets..? if ur html file can be read as a file and the file stream can converted to a string and put into a Jeditor pane using the setText() method. for editing HTML text a editor called javax.swing.text.html.HTMLEditorKit can be used.
    Refer to JAVA API for further clarifiactions and examples.

  • How to generate individual HTML files from linked help?

    Hi folks,
    I'm trying to figure out how to generate individual web pages - based on heading types - from a help project this is linked to a FrameMaker book.
    I'm linking to the FM book, rather than importing, because the import process ruins my graphics. So, I know how to create individual web help pages using the import process; but that's not an option for me. (The graphics issue is a whole other discussion, which I've since given up on.)
    So, I'm using TCS 3.5 (RH9 and FM10). I've successfully linked to the FM book. Each topic represents a complete chapter and includes a single Heading 1 for the title and several Heading 2's. Again, these are all in the same help topic because I'm linked to the FM book.
    What I want to do is generate the web help so that new web pages (files) are created. In other words, I want breaks before each Heading 2. I want the resulting web pages to be named based on the Heading 2.
    Is this possible?
    Thanks for reading,
    Tom

    I’m not sure I understand the problem (I’m using FM 10, RH9, TCS3):  You can adjust .isf and all Conversion/CSS mapping, etc settings for an existing project (Linked or Imported) at:
    File > Project Settings > FrameMaker Document > Edit Conversion settings for FrameMaker documents: (click Edit button).
    Then, Go to FrameMaker Settings > Paragraph > Heading 1 etc. and click the box for Pagination.
    What I don’t know is if you have to re-do your linking process from scratch to do your pagination settings right the first time (like create a new project with your Frame docs, which shouldn’t be hard to test if you have saved your CSS, Master Pages etc), or already have an .isf file  with proper settings that you can specify at time of first import/linking. I already had these in place when I set up my linked project of a Frame book with 13 chapters – 350 pages – resulting in over 300 separate HTML files/topics (set H1, H2, and H3 levels to paginate). I don’t know if you can change these things post-linking, but it can definitely be done!
    There is definitely no reason to have to have an entire FM chapter as one topic in RH. You may have to create a new project to achieve your desired results, I am not sure.
    I hope this is helpful. Regarding RH ruining your images, I know what you mean. Through a painstaking process of research, trial, and error, I found that these Image options in the Conversion Settings produced the best results for me, though not as good as “ideal:”
    ·         Check the box for “Use Distiller to Generate Image”
    ·         Leave the “Do Not Regenerate Images” and “Preserve 3D Images” boxes unchecked
    ·         Under Preferred Dimensions: Check “Maintain Aspect Ratio” and check Width and Height – Set both to 0pt. (*This one was a key tip.) Leave “Scale” unchecked. (Scaling seems to do terrible things in RH.)
    ·         I left the Max Dimensions settings unchecked.
    ·         Set my personal preferences for margins (2pt all sides) and borders (solid, gray, 1 pt)
    ·         Under Advanced, Default format of PNG with color bit depth of 24. My graphics are all screenshots, so this is the reason for this in my instance.

  • How to open a html file from hard disk

    Hello everyone,
    i want to display a html file by using java applet.
    This is my current coding:
    package mkbe.pg;
    import java.net.*;
    import java.applet.*;
    public class HtmlReader extends Applet
    URL userUrl;
    public void start()
    try{
    userUrl = new URL(getDocumentBase(),"FILE:///c://2007/index.htm");
    }catch(MalformedURLException error){
    System.out.println("Error");
    getAppletContext().showDocument(userUrl,"_blank");
    }the program have no error and warning and the applet did run by appletviewer but the html file did'nt open.
    Is it there's mistake in my coding?
    If there is please tell me how to repair it.
    Thanks

    For an applet to read from a client's harddrive it will need permission.
    This can be done by putting the applet in a jar file and signing it,
    or by using the poiclytool to change the java.policy file to give FilePermission.

  • How to display local HTML file in web-view?

    Hello everyone,
    we have no problem with showing of remote HTML content from server in box on page in web view. But how we can show such a content when included in HTMLResources? In guide is just "Display a local HTML file in an in-app browser", which works wihout problem, but we don't want to show this HTML content in in-app viewer, it should be part of page.
    Thanks
    Martin

    Now i'm confused. In guide is this:
    To use local HTML files, click the folder icon and specify the local HTML file. The HTML file (such as index.html) should appear in a folder that includes any images or scripts used in the HTML file.
    But no info where such a local HTML file should reside. If this file is in HTMLResources, it is ignored.

  • How to generate a html file from a xml file with the default Firefox look and feel

    Hello
    Any xml or xsd file are pretty printed with Mozilla firefox. I would like to generate the equivalent html file, in order to introduce it later in a Word document. Do you use a xslt file ? How can I do this ?
    Best regards

    I would be remiss if I did not point out that the forum software detected your Firefox as version 17. Is that correct?
    Version 17 is not secure; Mozilla discloses [https://www.mozilla.org/security/known-vulnerabilities/firefox.html security flaws] after each new release. Is something holding you back from upgrading to Firefox 31? Please let us know so we can suggest solutions or workarounds.
    If Help > About Firefox shows Firefox 31, you may need to clear the preference that is misreporting your version number. See: [[Websites say that Firefox is outdated or incompatible even though it's the latest version]].

  • How to convert a HTML files into a text file using Java

    Hi guys...!
    I was wondering if there is a way to convert a HTML file into a text file using java programing language. Likewise I would also like to know if there is a way to convert any type of file (excel, power point, and word) into text using java.
    By the way, I really appreciated the help that you guys gave me on my previous topic on how to extract tests from a pdf file.
    Thank you....

    HTML files are already text files. What do you mean you want to convert them?
    I think if you search the web, you can find things for converting those MS Office files to text (or extracting text from them, as I assume you mean).

  • How to load local html-file into webBrowser tool? [SDK 6.5]

    The webbroser tool lets you load an external html by inputting the adress in its "Url"-property.
    But how do you load a local html-file that is added to your project? Lets say the path is: Folder1/Subfolder1/Webpage1.html. What would I put in the Url-property to make this work?
    While on this subject, what is the support for css and javascript when using locally loaded webpages in the webbrowser?

    Thanks for the answer Malleswar, but I have now played around with all variations of that code-line that I can think of, but still I can not locate the html-file that is located within the project. Since Im planning to distribute the html-files with the executable (as one file) it should read it directly from wherever the application is installed.
    The html-file is included within the project. Solution Explorer -> Solution 'myProject' -> myProject -> Webpage1.html
    Which is (as usual) also where the Form1.cs (which contains the webBrowser-component) is located.
    Any ideas of how the Uri should be constructed in this case?
    Thanks,
    Daniel
