How can I configure Firefox to prompt me to open or save a PDF file when I click on one instead of just opening it in Acrobat?

There is a registry key that can be edited to have IE do this. Is there a way to have Firefox pop up a dialog box asking what I want to do with the PDF file?
Here is the IE registry key:
[HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\AcroExch.Document.7]
"EditFlags"=hex:00,00,00,00

  • How can I fix a document having a microsoft Word logo and a "PDF" file extention?

I am a subscriber to Adobe Create PDF. When I scan in documents from my HP 8600 all in one, it shows up in my computer with a pdf file extention, but with a microsoft WORD logo. I cannot simply open it with a double click and see a PDF adobe display. Instead I get a window generated from WORD that has garbage symbols and unreadable cybertext which I cannot convert. How can the be fixed?

    Thanks, it worked.

  • Prompted to Open or Save a pdf File. Very Annoying!!

I have Windows 7, IE9, and Adobe Reader X. My question is this. When I click on a pdf file to open it, I receive a bar across the bottom of my window asking me if I want to open or save the pdf file. How can I just get the pdf to open and stop the prompt from appearing?

If you use the 32-bit version of IE9 there should be no prompt; it sould open inside the browser.

  • I do not want to upgrade to 7.0, I am attending online college and the upgraded version does not work with my school. How can I stop Firefox from upgrading? I have to keep uninstalling the upgrade and installing the old one.

How can I stop Firefox from automatically upgrading? My on-line college is not compatible with the upgraded version. I have to keep uninstalling the new one and reinstalling the old one.

It's not a good idea to allow websites to redirect to another site until you know for sure the original site is trustworthy.
But if you still want to do it (again not a good idea).
Tools>Options>Advanced>General - In Accessibility, uncheck "warn me when web sites try to redirect..." option.

  • Prompted to Open or Save a pdf File

Does any one know how this Works:
What is the security difference between having Acrobat opening a PDF from a webpage inside the browser
and opening in the Acrobat program.
I ask because when i have Acrobat opening PDF's inside the browser it
does not prompt to open/save the PDF file. But when you disable the open
inside browser, you get the prompt from IE to open/save the PDF first.
I can circumvent it by placing the site into the Intranet security zone in IE, but this is not a long term solution because Office requires that the site is in the Trusted Internet Zone, if you dont have the site in trusted internet zone, office will
tell you that the file can harm you computer etc.

    Hi,
So what do you want to achieve with the PDF files, Let them display inside the browser or open the download prompt?
PDF open inside browser is managed by add-ons in IE. And if the PDF needs to open in the Acrobat, the file need to be downloaded first.
Here are two articles talking about this:
    Display PDF in browser
How do I open a PDF in Acrobat instead of the browser?

  • How can standarize the settings of Firefox, by ADM is not working as it only modifies the registry, how can I configure firefox for all my users ?

I used the adm from Frontmotion but it only works with the FirefixCE version, I need to force Firefox configuration in my domain with a standar version of Firefox, how can I do this, it could be by GPO or logon script

Most YouTube content requires the Flash plugin. Sometimes it's necessary to uninstall then reinstall that plugin.
Uninstall the Flash plugin then reinstall new >  Troubleshoot Flash Player | Mac OS
Very important to uninstall the currently installed plugin first.
Now launch Safari and try a video.
If you have the ClickToFlash extension installed, that can prevent Flash based video from streaming. It can also be installed as a plugin in /Library/Internet-Plug-Ins.
And check to see if Safari is running in 32 bit mode. Right or control click the Safari icon in your Applications folder then click Get Info. If the box next to:  Open in 32 bit mode  is selected, deselect, quit then relaunch Safari.
You may also need to delete the cache associated with Safari .
Open the Finder. From the Finder menu bar click Go > Go to Folder
    Type or copy/paste:   ~/Library/Caches/com.apple.Safari
Click Go the move the Cache.db file from the com.apple.Safari folder to the Trash.
Quit and relaunch Safari. Try a video.

  • How can you configure Firefox to apply updates as soon as they are available?

I have a mandate to update Firefox across every machine in my enterprise within 48 hours of a new release. I have been doing this with intranet distribution tools (SCCM, etc.) but because of the frequency of Firefox updates this has become laborious.
I've been looking at the about:config settings in the "app.update" category (http://kb.mozillazine.org/Category:Preferences) and some of those seem promising. As a test, I set "app.update.silent" to TRUE and "app.update.interval" to 60 (seconds) on a legacy version of Firefox. I restarted the browser, let it sit for a few minutes then restarted it again expecting the latest update to apply, but nothing happened.
How can I script or automate via Firefox's internal settings the same update process that is triggered when users manually go to Help > About?

The Nightly versions have these values for some of the prefs because they can be updated daily more than once because of a respin
    *app.update.interval : 7200
    *app.update.promptWaitTime : 43200
You may need to reset update timer prefs.
    *app.update.lastUpdateTime.background-update-timer
You can have a look at the comments in the source code that handles the updating process to see if that gives some ideas.

  • How can I STOP Firefox from automatically resuming a discontinued download, from a previous session, when I resume using Firefox?

Firefox automatically resumes ANY and ALL discontinued downloads whenever I get back online. Sometimes, a file is loading way too slowly, and I just want it to stop. Firefox NEVER permits this. The damn thing just starts reloading again, even days after I originally abandoned it.

The default is to pause a download and resume the download automatically the next time.
You can set the browser.download.manager.quitBehavior pref to 2 on the about:config page.
That will make Firefox ask for confirmation if you want to cancel the download when you close Firefox.
    See:

  • How can I force Firefox to properly format all html pages to a pdf without losing top and right hand margins?

Setting up page printout format for pdf on a Mac OS/X Snow Leopard Mac Pro. Printer is HP 8500A OfficeJet Pro Plus bought after July 14, 2011 serial number- CN141CK7QM
When I print to file as a pdf I am getting the first page correctly but subsequent pages are getting clipped along the top and the right margins.
I don't have this problem with my IBook 4.0
The issue is formatting an html page to a pdf when the print request is asking for a pdf or when the print request is to the printer.
The url to my HP Office jet Pro 8500A Plus is:
    mdns://Officejet%20Pro%208500%20A910%20%5B530E4F%5D._pdl-datastream._tcp.local./?bidi
I have a IBook G4 and I do not have any of this problem.
I have specified a default paper size of "USLetter".
This printing issue is a new one that occurred since I started the Firefox updates after Firefox 6.0 series.
I am checking with HP on this issue. Prior to the HP8500A (installed in July 2011) I did have a HP6180 Officejet for several years without encountering such a conflict.
So my second question is; Are there Firefox printing conflicts with the HP 8500A printers?

  • I want to VIEW pdf files when I click on them (NOT save them) WITHOUT being asked everytime. I have already customized my firefox settings.

I have a hotmail email account and each time I click on a pdf attachment, Firefox asks me "What should Firefox do with this file?" I click "Open with - Adobe Reader (default)" then I check-mark "DO THIS AUTOMATICALLY FOR FILES LIKE THIS FROM NOW ON." When I check-mark that box a little line comes up beneath it that says "Settings can be changed using the Applications tab in Firefox's Options." So I also changed my application settings to "PDF - Use Adobe Acrobat in Firefox". Even though I have changed the application settings, and have check-marked the little box asking it to open with adobe reader automatically, Firefox still asks me each time I click on a PDF "What should Firefox do with this file". How do I make it stick that every time I click on a pdf attachment I want to VIEW it in Adobe WITHOUT being asked every time? Is there a way? Thank you!!!

Automatic actions are connected to a specific MIME type and if Hotmail doesn't send the file with a correctly recognized MIME type then the automatic action won't work.

  • How can I configure FireFox security setting globally for all users on a PC? Is there something I can do in group policies or throught the registry to insure all users have the same settings?

Our Bank's core processor has rewritten their product to run in a web browser. Their browser of choice is Firefox 3.6. The specifications from our core processor specify specific security and settings parameters that must be adhered to by all users for their product to run properly. Is there a way to globally configure these settings via the registry or group policies to insure everyone who logs in to a given workstation opens Firefox with the same settings? Thank you for any assistance you can provide - Steve Gish, First Bank Kansas.

  • How can i configure firefox single sign-on for urls on citrix environment to affect all users

    Hello,
i tried to configure single sign-on on firefox, which is published on our citrix environment and i tried to setup it as per this article "http://support.citrix.com/article/ctx120598" this method and it only applies for a single user, is there any way of doing the config to apply for any user which is loged via citrix session...?
    Thank you,
    Manoj.

you can use a mozilla.cfg file in the Firefox program folder to lock prefs or specify new (default) values for all users and profile folders.
Place a local-settings.js file in the defaults\pref folder where also the channel-prefs.js file is located to specify using mozilla.cfg.
    pref("general.config.filename", "mozilla.cfg");
    pref("general.config.obscure_value", 0);
These functions can be used in the mozilla.cfg file:
defaultPref(); // set new default value
pref(); // set pref, allow changes in current session
lockPref(); // lock pref, disallow changes

When I'am using firefox, I only see a part of the screen. Every new screen I have to zoom to an size that the screen fits. This happend after a new installation. Is the a way in which I can make the screen fit automaticly?

Were you using either of these add-ons that let you set a default zoom level for all sites? If so, check to see whether it was disabled during the upgrade. Or if this is a completely new installation, you might want to grab the add-on again.
