How can I divide a number into bytes

I tried the icon called "split number". It didn't work for me.

"split number" is certainly the VI that I would recommend you use. Keep in mind that it splits the input into two equal parts. If you input a 32-bit integer, the high 16 bits and low 16 bits correspond to the two outputs. You'll then need to split one of the previous outputs into its high and low components to access each individual byte.
You could also construct a mask, bitwise AND it with your number, and then shift the result the appropriate number of bits. However, for the sake of simplicity, I recommend that you use "Split Number."

How can I divide a video into separate clips?

I need to take video that I have been given and divide it into ten second intervals in order to collect data from each clip (for behavioral analysis and research). I know nothing about using video editing software but if I can learn how to do it right I will have a new job, so I really am motivated to learn!

Maybe you dont have to :divide" it. (eg cut it up into ten second clips.)
Maybe a running clock super imposed onthe footage will be a better way for your goal.
We can tell you how to do either...but you do need the basics * edit and application fundamentals) before starting anything.

(The answer to this question might apply to different versions &/or products, so my version -- Photoshop Elements 2 -- may be irrelevant.)
I need to "cut" a JPG photo into two (or more) irregular shapes, for a graphics project I need in my work.
I'd then want to save each shape as a separate JPG, for manipulating separately.
Can I do this with Photoshop Elements? If so, how and with which tool? The "cutting" should be free-form, so being limited to straight lines would not be a full solution.
I guess this is a kind of "cropping"--though maybe there's a better term, since this doesn't involve selecting a rectangular area within a picture.

Brad, It wasn't clear if you want to cut the picture into pieces jig-saw style so that the whole is the sum of its parts. If so here is one way using Elements 2 (maybe newer versions have ways of doing this more easily). In this example I cut the picture into 3 parts using the Lasso. 1. Select part 1. 2. Select > Save Selection: give the selection a name (e.g., part 1). 3. Copy/paste selection to new layer (Layer 1 in my example). 4. Activate Background layer. 5. Select > Reselect, and invert the selection. 7. Holding down <Alt>, use Lasso to delete all but part 2. 8. Select > Save Selection: give the selection a name (e.g., part 2). 9. Copy/paste selection to new layer (Layer 2 in example). 10. Activate Background layer. 11. Select > Reselect. 12. Select > Load Selection: In the Selection pull-down menu choose part 1 and check the "Add to Selection" box. The selection will now consist of parts 1 & 2. 13. Invert the selection to give part 3 and copy/paste to new layer (Layer 3 in example). The 3 pieces are in separate layers with transparent background. Numbers does not have (nor has it ever had) page breaks or Set Print Area.
Numbers 3 has lost Print View and Layout View, so it is rather clunky to swap between File > Print (to see Print Preview) and your document.
You can, however, move tables to new sheets and print only those sheets that are relevant. For example, your main data table could be on one sheet (that you choose to not print) and a summary table with perhaps a chart on another sheet (that you do print).

I was trying to move several albums onto a USB drive and it stated all other files exist at this location. They are pictures taken at different times and have the same number I guess.

In iPhoto albums may contain photos with the same file name - iPhoto handles that just fine
If you are exporting them to move somewhere else use the sequential file name feature of export to give each file a unique name

I found on the web 2 functions that made this... but it uses a ObjectOutputStream and ObjectInputStream classes that is not provided by the J2ME plataform...

There are no ObjectOutputStream and ObjectInputStream classes in CLDC. You must know what you are writing to and reading from the DataStream. You should write the primitives like int, String to the DataOutputstream at one end and read those in exactly the same sequence at the outher end using readInt(), readUTF() methods.

Go to the Project Library View and select your project.
Then FILE/DUPLICATE PROJECT and give the duplicate a name like "your name - part 1".
Then duplicate it again and give the duplicate a name like "your name - part 2"
Now you can open "part 1" as a project and delete everything that is in part 2.
Open "part 2" as a project and delete everything that is in part 1.

I would use text boxes but you could use Layout breaks and column breaks, but is more of a hassle. I am not a fan of a lot of text in tables.

I need to divide a number into a collection of random parts. So that the sum of all parts is equal to the number.
E.g.:

Lets say the number = 20
And parts = 4
I would then like to return an array of ints containing e.g. 3, 11, 5, 1
OR e.g. 4,8,2,6

Be aware that given the wrong parameters this solution
can take a long time to find a list. This seems misleading, as the termination condition is based
on randomness. Although, it is possible to predict an average
termination time.
Basically your algorithm starts by generating initial random values
in the range [0, maxValue]. You limit the size of the maximum
generated value, although I'm not sure why. Obviously maxValue
has to be greater than sum / length, otherwise it would be
impossible to generate any combination values that add up to sum.
Then your algorithm asks if the sum of those initial random values
is equal to the target sum. If not, you cycle through the list replacing
the the current position with a new random value and updating the
current sum.
As an example, let's suppose that maxValue is equal to sum, and
that sum = 1000, and length (numParts) is 4.
Assuming the minValue is 1, not 0, then the total number of
permutations of 4 numbers that add up to 1000 is:
165,668,499
However, the total number of permutations is:
1000^4 = 1,000,000,000,000
In terms of probability, the chance of finding a solution on each try is:
165,668,499 / 1,000,000,000,000 = 0.000165668499
Thus, you'll need approximately 6036 loops on average to find a solution for 1,000 split 4 ways.
For 2,000 split 4 ways, number of perms is:
2000^4 = 16,000,000,000,000
The perms of 4 numbers that add up to 2000 is:
1,329,336,999
Probability of finding a solution on each try is:
0.0000830835624375
Average number of tries is: 12036
I'm impressed that the random approach is that fast.
