How can I do to convert a ".PNG" image file to a ".JPG" or ".BMP" one?

My problem is to save an image (after processing and with overlay information!) to a standard file (JPG, BMP, ...); if I do it directly with the related VI's, the overlay information is lost; I can save the image in a ".PNG" file, which contains the complete information with overlay, but is not displayable on a LabView-less PC ! How can I do?
Thank you for your prompt answers.
Francois

Hello Francois,
As you noted, BMP and JPG file formats do not support overlay information. There are two approaches to your problem.
1. Write to PNG file. PNG is not a LabVIEW specific file format. It cannot, however, be read by simple programs such as Windows Paint. Paint Shop Pro, Photoshop, among other more robust image viewing and editing programs can handle PNG files that LabVIEW generates.
2. Flatten the overlay information into the main image before writing to BMP or JPG. I don't believe this functionality is built-in to LabVIEW, so this would require some programming, perhaps quite difficult. That is why LabVIEW supports PNG files.

  • How can I use or convert a imaq image to plot images back on waveform graph

    Hi
I am currently opening and manipulating (rotate and resize) a PNG image using IMAQ Vision in LabView 8.2.1 This works well and I can display the Image on the front panel using a IMAQ Image Control.
In addition to this I would now like to display the image as a background on waveformgraph. I can do this with the original PNG file by reading it and then flatten it to a pixmap ie make it a Picture but this is of little use as I need to use the manipulated IMAQ image.
Therefor I would like to know how to convert the manipulted IMAQ Image to right Picture Format (without resaving) in order to use it on the PlotImages.Back property node of a wavefrom graph.
I very much welcome your suggestions as I feel it should be easy yet can not seem to solve it. Thank you for your time!!!

    Hi Randall
Apologies for replying somewhat late but I have been out of the office for a few days.
Your suggestions and code helped me greatly and led to solving my query so thank you for that.
There is one more thing (well many many more but I will place new posts for those  however that you might be able to answer for me.
Following your suggestion to use the image to array function I searched through more examples and found the code that did exactly what I wanted to do. Please see attached.
In this code a For loop is used to add 65793 to the color table. It works very well but I do not know why it is used exactly. Can you exlplain? I also realize I never made it clear that I use grayscale PNG files rather then color images.
Thanks again for your excellent help, it is much appreciated.

  • Can I stop iWeb from making png image files for text boxes?

I have a web page that contains one text box - the TextEdit file from which I pasted the text is 4 KB. The html file from iWeb is 12 KB. The shapeimage_2.png file is 132 KB! Is this necessary? How do I stop this. This is just text. Arial font, regular, 15 pt. The formating in the TextEdit version and the iWeb version is identical.

Some tips from this forum for reducing the number of png files in a web site:
1 - do not use and frames or borders, etc. around photos.
    2 - don't use any reflections.
3 - create your own navigation bar with linked text* and turn of the iWeb Navigation bar. That's because the nav bar is all png based.
*Put your linked text directly under the Navigation bar. Then turn off the nav bar in the Inspector window. The nav bar will disappear and the linked text will move up to the top of the page as seen in this screenshot.
4 - use only the web safe fonts from the Font pane.
5 - do not use drop shadow on fonts.
6 - turn off smart quotes
7 - if you add a jpg to a page don't resize it in iWeb as that will cause it to be converted to png. Resize it to what you need before adding to the page..
The above will reduce the number and size of files associated with a web page quite a bit. Photos with fancy frames and reflections can generate a thumbnail png of around 110KB whereas the plain version will be a jpg of only 28KB. Although it doesn't sound like a lot, it will speed up loading of the page and be more darkside (i.e. PC) friendly.
Run a test with a test site and publish to a folder. Then follow the hints above and publish to another folder and compare folders.

  • How can I extract the metadata from multiple image files into a .csv?

    Hi.
I'm looking for what I believe is a simple task but I am not sure how to go about it. I want to get the relevant data (seen in the screen grab below) into a spread sheet. I need to get the File Name, Size, Dimensions, Resolution and Kind into the spreadsheet so I can better analyze the data for my purposes. I have tried to find EXIF and IPTC extractors but only come across products that show me the info with no way of transferring it. I figured there must be a way to do this in the Finder. Maybe it's a simple Automator task (which I am not very good at) or a Script.
Can anyone guide me thru or suggest a tool that would work?
I was given a suggestion in another Disscussion to use a Plug-In for iPhoto. I found an old one but it dosnt have all of the metadata I need. It's missing the File Name and Resolution as options.

    Nevermind, I found it.

  • How can I sort "locked or tagged" RAW image files in a folder?

I'm in need of some help.  I have photos that I "Tag" or "Lock" in camera to make image selection easier.
Is there a way of sorting those images in the finder, the same as "File Name", "File Size", "Date Modified" and such?
I would like to open ONLY those images that are "Tagged or Locked".  I can see which ones they are but I can't seem to find a way to sort them so I can only open them at once.
May sound like a newbie question but i'm having a hard time adjusting to a new workflow for a new client.
    Thanks again

    Hi,
    Have you tried this before?
Right click the .ht file, choose Open with.. and then in More options, scroll down and click Look for another app on your PC. Then locate your Hyperterm excusable file to see if it can work fine.
If it cannot work, this issue can be caused by lacking of mapping registry keys.
Please know how the file association work:
Files are exposed in the Shell as Shell items. To control file associations, application developers can register a mapping between the file type and the handlers (COM objects that provide functionality for the file type's Shell items).
When the Shell needs to query for the file associations of a file type, it creates an array of registry keys containing the associations for the file type, and checks these keys for the appropriate file associations to use.
    Try following fix:
    1. Double-click on your .ht file, and open it with Notepad
    2. Enter your registry, and navigate to the following key: [HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\ht_auto_file\shell\open\command]
    3. Under the (Default) string, replace the Notepad.exe path with the path of your HyperTerminal application. It should look something like "C:\Program Files (x86)\HyperTerminal\hypertrm.exe"
    4. Double-click your .ht file again. With any luck, it should open in HyperTerminal now.

  • How can I edit separate layers in a psd file that was saved as only one layer?

A designer provided me with a finished design and provided the psd, eps and ai files.  I'd like to make some minor changes in PS and would like to access individual layers - e.g. the text, background, etc.  When I open the psd file, however, it only has one layer.  how do I break out the original layers so that I can edit them?

You can't. Once it's been flattened, you can't unflatten it. Talk to your designer: he/she will most likely have the unflattened version available.

  • How can I share a library (or other image files) across computers

    Hi All;
My wife and I are both freelance photographers. We recently bought aperature ad per the license agreement installed it on my laptop and her mac desktop. We also just bought a 2-Terabyte network RAID storage array.
I want to be able to pull up the images on the network array from either machine (via aperature)
What's the best way to do this ?
    Thanks in advance

First off, even if you are allowed to install it on both computers Aperture will not let you run two copies on the same subnet with the same serial number at the same time.
Second, Aperture is not designed as a multi-user concurrent access application. The workflows that I have helped people design for multiple photographers do not revolve around accessing the the same library at the same time. They are more like a project check-out/check-in when more than two people contribute to what ends up being a consolidated library. I have monkeyed around and gotten what you ask to work but it is highly inadvisable due to the nature in the way Aperture accesses and modifies the data (a disaster waiting to happen if you access it concurrently). You can share masters but that is pretty much useless if you are working on the same images. If you are not I would suggest something more along the lines of what I have outlined here:

  • How can I insert a link to an image file into numbers

I wish to include access to images in a numbers spreadsheet without actually inserting the images. Doing this where the image is a web page is not difficult but these images are on my local drive. I tried dropping an image file onto Safari ( the image opens as a page in Safari) and then copying the URL ( it has the form:  file:///Users/JTC_49/Documents/Pictures/IMG_0248.JPG )  and using it to create a link ( Format>Add a Link>paste the URL into the 'link' field). That all seems to work but when you click on the link you get a message " Couldnt Open Link ". A web page link would open a browser and display the linked page. This does not appear to try to open a browser to pass the URL.
MacBook Pro, OS X Mavericks (10.9.3), Numbers 3.2

Open the parent file. Go to Tools> Advanced Editing> Link tool. Then draw an area in the parent file with the link tool to open the new file. You will get the Create link dialog box. Under Link action, select "Open a file" and click on next. Select the file to open and click on Select button. You will get the "Specify Open Preference Window".  Select  "New Window"  and Click on OK. Save the file and re-open it. This time the new file will open in a new window keeping the parent file.

Flip4Mac WMV Player from  http://www.telestream.net/flip4mac-wmv/overview.htm  (Windows Media Player for the Mac is no longer supported, even by Microsoft). This will enable you to play the video. To convert it you will need the paid-for Pro version of Flip4Mac.

  • How can I export an Adobe illustrator CC .AI file to a DWG or DXF file suitable for SolidWorks?

    Hi
    Can anyone help?
How can I export an Adobe illustrator CC .AI file to a DWG or DXF file,  without SolidWorks enlarging the file & converting every curve into hundreds of short little straight lines rather than a single continuous line/s.
I have made sure the file is ungrouped or has any compound paths or colours.
Opening it in Autocad 2010 still converts the DWG file into hundreds of short little straight lines!
The file is needed to laser cut out an aluminium shape using SolidWorks 2008 (Metal soft)?
    Formats they can handle are:
    DWG, DXF, IGES, IGA
There must be a way to export it without re-drawing the whole design in Soildworks again!!??
    Can anyone help?
    INCA

Not really. This is a limitation you will have to live with. Unless you are extremely careful, most paths will be converted to polyline segments by AI and in particular in AI CC this is somehow busted, so it happens more often. You might have much more luck opening a native AI file in DraftSight or a 2D CAD program like TurboCAD and exporting a DWG or 2D IGES/ STEP file from there. The sizing issue is a different matter, but without knowing what units you actualyl used, nobody can advise.
