How can I interactively create a New File in LabVIEW 2011?

I am trying to create a new binary file interactively in LabVIEW, but the File Path control only offers the ability to either type in the full path and file name (cumbersome for the user), or browse for an existing file. I want to open a "New File" dialog that will allow the user to browse to the target directory, then be able to enter the name of a non-existing file to save the data to.
The way I'm currently doing it is creating a TXT file using the Windows Explorer "New Text Document" pop-up, then changing the file extension to the new value...which is again, very cumbersome.
The only thing I've found online is that there used to be a "New File.VI" in an older version of LabVIEW apparently...but I can't seem to find it in 2011.
Solved!
Go to Solution.

You can create a new file using the browse button.
Did your right click on the file path control and check the settings in the "Browse Options" menu?

  • How do I automatically create a new file at the beginning of a new day, otherwise I only want to append that days file?

In my robotics application I store my data using "Write to Spreadsheet.vi". I would like to append the file each time I run the program on any given day. On a NEW day I would automatically like to create a new file with a smiliar name and append that file for the day on which it is created. It's easy to do using the "Write to Measurement File. vi" but the text file created is vertical rather than horizontal, so I would like to use "Write to Spreadsheet". Any suggestions?
Also how to I include my VI as part of this question for others to see?
    Thank you.

Does the file you are writing have a timestamp in it?  If so you could read the timestamp from the last time it was written and see if the day has changed, handling the name of the file appropriately.  The easiest way to record the timestamp is probably to write the timestamp as the number of seconds that have elapsed since 12:00 am on Firday January 1st 1904 in UT.  The "Get Date/Time in Seconds" function will give you this value.

No it can't.  This should work - Try using another browser to set up a new account.  After you do that (if it works), go back to your favorite browser & enter your new account information.

  • How can i convert .gif/.bmp/.jpeg file to labview code(vi)?

    Hi,
I am having a .gif file which consists of vi code. I want to convert that .gif file into vi & complile it. I am using LV 6.1 & 7 express. Is is possible?
Reverse is surely possible like we can convert the vi diagram into .gif/.bmp file? But above i dont know?
    Your help will really appreciated.
    Best Regards,
    Nirmal

If I understand your desire, it's to be able to convert a graphical image (bit map or screen photo, for example) into a functional block of LabView code, with all of the wire work done, etc. This is a task approximately equivalent to performing optical character recognition.
In the case of a non-system subvi, unless that subvi is loaded, so that it's graphical representation can be recognized by comparing the bit-map image for the subvi on the photo with the available vi's.
Another difficult problem to solve is when the bit-map has been scaled up or down, such that there's a pixel count mismatch between the VI iconic bitmap and the photographic bitmap you wish to import into your code diagram.
And if you try to do recognition on objects that have h
ad their RGB color representations changed, as can happen when JPG compression or other compression forms are used that reduce to total number of colors saved, that challenges the object recognition further.
Also, what you're interested in having is only of value to Labview programmers, so there's not a very large market for such a tool to be sold to - unlike bitmaps of scanned text to ASCII or wordprocessor applications - traditional OCR software.
All this ins't to say it can't be done, but that it's difficult, and for the person or company that undertakes it, the sales potential is limited.

  • How can I locate my iTunes library files. When I click on my itunes icon the message appears, "The file iTunes Library.itl." cannot be found because it was created by a newer version of iTunes."

How can I locate my iTunes library files?  When I click on my iTunes icon rather than my iTunes files I receive, " The file iTunes Library.itl." cannot be read because it was created by a newer version of iTunes."  I have already tried to update my iTunes program.

Had same problem and solved it without having to reinstore any music or movies:
    1. Delete old Library file
    2. Go to the 'Previous iTunes Libraries' folder and copy one of the earlier files - note, they have a date extension, e.g. 'iTunes Library 2011-11-01'.
    3. Paste this file in your iTuners folder and rename file by removing the date extension -  'iTunes Library'
You should have all your music and paylists in tact, unless it was a really old previous file.

I’m pretty sure Adobe NEVER intended for someone to copy an XMP file from one photo to another outside of LR as a way to replicate settings.   You can make a preset from a photo, as discussed, or if you don’t want to do that, copy-paste the settings from a representative photo that you initially select to one or more new photos.  You could have a special LR folder that holds standard photos to copy/paste from.  Of course creating a Develop preset from the representative photo is the “normal” way to handle such situations, but maybe you have hundreds of different situations to copy settings from and don’t want to create presets for each one, but I’d argue that you could create a complex folder hierarchy for your presets and still have them findable without that much problem.
As far as the mystery about why some photos show Reset and some show From Metadata, is the Process Version (down in Camera Calibration) of the photo before reading the settings the same between the two situations?  And in general, are these virgin photos newly imported into LR or have some been modified in LR, already?  Does an XMP file already exist for any of these, where that XMP is being overwritten by your external-to-LR copying?  Or do you have auto-write-XMP enabled and your hand-copied XMP is getting overwritten by LR, automatically, before you have a chance to read in anything?

  • Can't create a new file

When trying to create a new file, I get the following prompt and AI hangs and stops opening existing files.
"Can't create a new illustration. Problems occurred while saving the print file. -1"
    Anyone know what's going on?
    - CS6 AI v16.2.0
    - MacBook Pro 2012
    - OSX 10.8.2
    - 8GB RAM

There's a problem with your original account. It is really hard to guess what might be the problem. How much do you use AI? Is it a hassle to use AI in the new account? You might try uninstalling the Creative Suite, run the CS Cleaner tool (do a google search for it), and reinstall the software. If you choose to do this, be sure to check the box to Delete Preferences when rinning the uninstall.

I wouldn't judge. I've been to Arch for a week, you know? But as said, it's VERY close to it.
What I dislike after a week is makepkg not handling dependencies automatically (which would be overhead, so probably not appropriate).

shoo: if i had to do that for every file i get  i would go insane, as scott said, post contract: files that they (sub contractor) supply you, presume them ok unless you KNOW otherwise, or a copyright flag pops up contradicting ownership.
