How can I perform a clean erase and reinstall on my iBook G4?

Hi everyone,
I have misplaced a help article that I successfully used to perform a clean erase and reinstall on my iBook G4.
I've been trying to get the erase and reinstall started by inserting the software restore cd (disk 1 of 8) that came with my computer, but the cd doesn't give the option to erase and restore.
When I try holding down "c" after restarting (right before I hear the dong sound), it just boots like it normally does and I still don't get the option to erase and install.
Can someone help?

I don't know fiberoptix. The above poster mentioning 8 disks would be talking about Panther, whereas in your case I am not sure what the second tiger DVD has on it.

Put shake folder in trash.
In the Library/Receipts folder drag the Shake.pkg file to trash. Empty trash.
Process does not remove nreal folders.

Hii i have a macbook pro which i bought in late 2011. I was wondering how i should do a comeplete wipe of all my memory and reinstall lion. I have tried the recovery process but it just reintalls the os and leaves the rest of the data behind.

Install or Reinstall Lion from Scratch
If possible backup your files to an external drive or second internal drive.
Boot to the Recovery HD:
Restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the COMMAND and R keys until the menu screen appears. Alternatively, restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the OPTION key until the boot manager screen appears. Select the Recovery HD and click on the downward pointing arrow button.
Erase the hard drive:
Select Disk Utility from the main menu and click on the Continue button.
After DU loads select your hard drive (this is the entry with the mfgr.'s ID and size) from the left side list. Note the SMART status of the drive in DU's status area. If it does not say "Verified" then the drive is failing or has failed and will need replacing. SMART info will not be reported on external drives. Otherwise, click on the Erase tab in the DU main window.
Set the format type to Mac OS Extended (Journaled.) Click on the Erase button and wait until the process has completed.
Quit DU and return to the main menu.
Reinstall Lion: Select Reinstall Lion and click on the Install button.
Note: You can also re-download the Lion installer by opening the App Store application. Hold down the OPTION key and click on the Purchases icon in the toolbar. You should now see an active Install button to the right of your Lion purchase entry. There are situations in which this will not work. For example, if you are already booted into the Lion you originally purchased with your Apple ID or if an instance of the Lion installer is located anywhere on your computer.

How can i perform the right click and double click operation in ipad.

I have an email application i.e web application working fine in desktops, in that application if i will double click on the mail that mail will be open, and after opening that mail if i will right click on the mail it will show the different functionality .
But i cant do that in ipad, is there solution to this problem ????

I understand what you have and what you want. However, the iPad is not a desktop computer. What you want may not be possible. The developer may have already created an app specifically for the iPad. Have you checked the App Store?

I tried to install iDVD 08 on my little old G4 (1Ghz) with a ATi Rage Pro (16Mb) Graphics card. And well to my disappointment iDVD 08 does not support it ;( So now i want to take iDVD 08 off, and delete it and reinstall iDVD 05 from install DVD...

How can I format my primary HD and reinstall Lion?

So my iMac has been running very slowly lately, and I've had some tech issues (see the fruitless help thread at http://hintsforums.macworld.com/showthread.php?p=634569), so I'm tempted to just wipe my hard drive clean and reinstall Lion.
I have a backup HD, so I should have sufficient hardware to do this. I just have a couple questions about the mechanics:
1. How do I format my primary hard drive? I assume this is straightforward.
2. Is it possible to reinstall Lion without an install CD? I downloaded Lion off the App Store, and I'd hate to think that because of that I'm stuck with the installation I have.
Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks!

Erase and reinstall tiger on ibook G4

Hi,
I just bought a new macbook and am planning to sell my ibook G4.
I asked the one to one trainer about erasing everything on the drive and reinstalling the Tiger OS. He suggested I just do a clean install with the tiger discs and I wanted to do some erasing first. Basically what I did so far is to go to Disc Utility and run the "erase free space" 7 times. When I returned I discovered there are still docs in the HD.
So what is the next step to prepare the machine to erase everything before selling? Is this all I have to do to rid the computer of any trace of personal info. ? Also, once the drive is reinstalled will it be prompting me to sign in again as me and then I can check if everything is new?

Yes, you need to erase the whole disk, not just the free space...
1. Insert the Mac OS X Install disc that came with your computer, then restart the computer while holding the C key.
2. When your computer finishes starting up from the disc, choose Disk Utility from the Installer menu. (In Mac OS X 10.4 or later, you must select your language first.)
*Important: Do not click Continue in the first screen of the Installer. If you do, you must restart from the disc again to access Disk Utility.*
3. Click the Erase tab.
4. Click the disclosure triangle to the left of the hard drive icon to display the names of your hard disk volumes and partitions.
5. Select your Mac OS X volume.
6. Highlight the drive, select Partition Tab, then Format type... MacOS Extended Journalled, select the Security Options button, choose Zero Out Data, Erase... after completion hopefully you'll be able to install.

I'm using a PCI 6024 DAQ card which can scan analog channels only at either the rising edge or the trailing edge pf an ext scan clk.but my application needs scanning to be performed at both the edges.can anyone plz help me??

If you can add some simple hardware to your setup, look at using a clock doubler so you can get two rising edges in the one clock period of the original clock. The doubled clock will only be used as a trigger for the DAQ card. Search Google for ["clock doubler" circuit] (include the double quotes, not the brackets). Click here or here for some sample circuits. The doubled clock will be out of phase with the original clock by the propagation delays of the gates in the circuits. If you're sampling in the kHz range or lower, the propagation delays won't affect your measurements.

How can I uninstall firefox 4.0 and reinstall 3.6?

After installing 4.0 I lost the AVG tool bar which, after a lot of messing around, i lost all my AVG files. This problem is now solved.
Now when I try to log in on my on line banking account it tells I am already logged in on another browser and it sends me back to its homepage. Apparently the other browser must be FF3.6.

You can create a new profile as a test to check if your current profile is causing the problem.

Select the account and click the minus button at the bottom of the column.
Quit mail

Do you have an installed email program such as Microsoft Outlook? If your email is through an online login, such as Gmail, etc, then one will have to create an email association with a program such as Microsoft Outlook on the PC for this Scan to Email system to function.

You can not install iOS 5. It is no longer signed by Apple. You can only install the current version of iOS. For a 3GS, that's 6.1.3.
However... if you have 4.2.1 on your phone, odds are it is not a 3GS, it is a 3G. If that's the case, you've reached the end of the road for that. It can not run anything higher than 4.2.1.
