How can I restore "most visited" to bookmarks toolbar on firefox 5.0 ?

I deleted it to tidy up tool bar , but another user has asked for me to put it back

Hi Georgina,
A newer version of Firefox will not bring back what you purposely deleted.
But if you are not displaying the Bookmarks Toolbar then you might want to display it because that is where the original is/was. (see additional comment at bottom)
'''First create a bookmark:''' and let's make it for 12 instead of 10
:Right click on your bookmarks toolbar, "Create a new bookmark". Use copy and paste to populate your bookmark from the following:
'''Name:      ''' Most visited (12)
:'''Location:  ''' place:sort=8&redirectsMode=2&maxResults=12
Use the "Add" at the bottom to create the bookmark, no peeking at the location, you won't see it.
Exit Firefox with "'''Alt+F'''" then Exit (don't use the "X" in upper right corner)
Left click on your what is now your "Smart Folder", and you should see the 12 most visited from your '''history '''-- nothing to do with bookmarks that you also have.
If you right-click on the "Smart Folder" you won't still won't see the location, unless you have an extension or a style to show everything. -- [https://support.mozilla.com/en-US/user/52 David McRitchie]
If you are not displaying the Bookmarks Toolbar then you can display it with "Alt+V" to bring up the View menu then "T" for Toolbars, click to show checkmark next to the Bookmarks Toolbar.
You can make Firefox '''Firefox 5.0''' look like Firefox 3.6.19, see numbered items 1-10 in the following topic [http://dmcritchie.mvps.org/firefox/firefox-problems.htm#fx4interface Fix Firefox 4.0 toolbar user interface, problems (Make Firefox 5.0, or 4.0.1, look like 3.6)]. how can i restore the deleted accidentally bookmarks ? is there trash or bin for deleted bookmarks , like opera browser ?

If you have accidentally removed bookmarks then use "Organize > Undo" in the bookmarks manager (Bookmarks > Organize Bookmarks) to get them back.
The Organize button is the first of the three buttons on the toolbar in the Library (Bookmarks Manager).
That only works if you haven't closed Firefox.
Otherwise you need to restore the bookmarks from a JSON backup.
That will replace all the current bookmarks and you lose bookmarks that were added since that backup was created.

  • How can I restore icons to safari bookmarks

When i upgraded to Yosemite ,I lost the icons on my safari bookmarks. How can I restore them

    Hi Barry,
It should have pick-up the icons automatically from the database that Safari creates
but it looks like Yosemite may have failed to do so for some odd reason.
You may have to re-visit all the sites you want icons for again for Safari to rebuild it's database.
Probably not what you want to hear. In my option Apple is releasing too many OS releases and
not letting the current OS mature before it goes off on one of it's OS release rampage.

  • How do I restore Favorites button to Bookmarks Toolbar?

I performed all the remedies detailed in Help to restore the Favorites button to the Bookmarks Toolbar, but to no avail. The Favorites button is still missing from my Bookmarks Toolbar.
It disappeared last evening when some cosmetic changes appeared on my Navigation bar.
I earlier had imported my Favorites from Internet Explorer, but they are buried deep in the Bookmarks menu, and do not permit of adding a new Favorite -- so aren't practical to use.
If I could sync my Favorites to my Bookmarks, I could finally abandon the Favorites in favor of the Bookmarks -- but apparently Firefox does not allow for such possibility.
Disappearance of the Favorites button from the Bookmarks Toolbar makes Firefox all but unusable for me -- unless I can find a solution.
I have no add-ons, and no new plugins that might be causing this problem.

I solved the problem, per a suggestion from the Support Forum: I simply exported my Favorites, as an HTML file, from Internet Explorer 8.0 to the Desktop. Then I imported the file to Firefox by selecting ''Import Bookmarks from HTML...'' under the ''Import and Backup'' button in the Library toolbar.
Finally, I closed and reopened Firefox. There was my Favorites button, once again on the Bookmarks Toolbar.

  • How can I permanently delete the default bookmark toolbar items (getting started, most recent, etc.)?

I can't seem to permanently delete the default bookmark toolbar items. They show up frequently on start-up, even after manually deleting them in a previous session. I use 3.6 x_32 on Linux (for Flash) and 4.0 RC 1 x_64 (for non-flash) sharing the same profile.
I use the X-marks extension and I thought that was the cause the problem, but the problem keeps happening even after deleting all of the the default items in each version and then overwriting my x-marks server data with a forced upload both times.
I'm guessing that x-marks will be most people's prime suspect. I just want to make sure that firefox isn't recreating the items as a default behavior.
I know it's a minor annoyance, but I keep my bookmarks toolbar pretty full. Thanks.

Does it still happen if you temporarily disable Xmarks?
Doesn't it work if you hide the Bookmarks Toolbar?

  • How can I restore my settings, etc. after update to Firefox 20 reset everything?

Windows 7 Starter, Firefox 20; running from non-administrator account (possibly the cause of issues):
I updated to Firefox 20, and everything was reset (i.e. homepage, bookmarks, passwords, addons).
I searched online for solutions but it hasn't helped me (i.e. Profile Manager).
I located the profiles folder, and it contains one folder called: shunltlp.default
the folder seems to have all the necessary files, e.g. bookmarks, key3, etc.
How can I get Firefox to use these files, and restore my settings, etc.?
    Thanks,
    Davoid.

    Hi cor-el,
    Thanks for the reply.
I had been to that page during my search for solutions but found it a bit confusing, although I did create a new profile but didn't understand the choose folder part.
I re-read the instructions and I have been able to restore my old profile.
So, thanks for pointing me in the right direction.
Re: running my Firefox from a non-administrator account
I think this may have been the cause of the profile problem.
I.e. when I selected 'Choose a folder' when creating the new profile, the default folder path was Administrator> etc., where as my old profile was not there, but in Username> etc. folder path...
I understand browsing from a non-administrator account is the sensible security option, but is causes other problems when installing updates...
Thanks for the help. It's much appreciated.
    Davoid.

  • How can I restore all of my synced data from Firefox 4 (Win) to Firefox 5 (Mac)

Because of a computer problem, I can no longer access the data on my previous installation of Firefox 4 on a windows computer. I've recently started using a new mac computer, and I can't seem to restore the data using Firefox sync. I'm certain that sync was enabled on the previous installation as I've had it syncing with my mobile phone. How can I fix this issue?

  • How can I get a two-line bookmark toolbar?

I have too many websites I visit daily! I like having them available at a single click on my bookmarks toolbar, but I'm trying to squeeze too many on there. Is there any way to stretch the toolbar vertically so I can get two lines of bookmarks on there? • How can I delete bearsearch from my media toolbar (and Firefox in general)? It's acting like a virus and not letting me reset my home page.

My grandson visited the BearShare website. Since then, the only home page that will "stick" in Firefox is http://search.bearshare.com. Repeated attempts to reset my home page have failed. After I reset the home page and close Firefox, when the program is restarted, the home page is, once again, http://search.bearshare.com.
I notice that BearShare is listed on my Media Toolbar. How can I delete this item?

  • How can I restore my contacts and bookmarks from Time Machine?

A few weeks ago a friend tried to help my wife with a problem on her Mac and unwittingly in the process fiddled with my iMac so that I now have her contact list and her bookmarks and I can't find any way to get my iMac back to the way it was. I have a Time Machine backup, conscientiously kept, and a SuperDuper backup as well. Can somebdy please tell me how to restore my computer to its former state?

To restore your contacts, quit the Address Book or Contacts application. Triple-click the line below to select it:
    ~/Library/Application Support/AddressBook
Right-click or control-click the highlighted line and select Services ▹ Reveal from the contextual menu. A Finder window should open with a folder selected. Restore the selected folder, or its contents, from a backup.
To restore your Safari bookmarks, repeat with this line:
    ~/Library/Safari/Bookmarks.plist

  • Formatted HD, but have backup of all the folders and files of Firefox. How can I restore everything, including plugins, bookmarks and saved settings?

I have formatted my computer's HD because of a problem with Windows 7, the thing is that Windows 7 didn't start, so I couldn't backup my Firefox settings, bookmarks, plugins, themes, personas and etc. the right way.
I also don't have a Firefox Sync account.
What I do have are all the folders and files of Firefox, because I just created a new partition and installed Windows 7 again, what I'm having trouble is finding a way (if there's any) to restore everything from my previous installation to the new one.
I have searched for days on both Google and on te Firefox forum with no success, the only questions I found are about restoring a profile, but what I'm trying to do is the same thing that the Firefox add-on " FEBE " does, which is restoring everything to the previous configuration.
    Here's alink to the add-on: https://addons.mozilla.org/pt-br/firefox/addon/febe/
I have tried copying, pasting and overwritting from the " .default " folder to my new installation of Firefox (yes, Firefox was closed), but when I opened it again, nothing was restored.
I every single folder and file Firefox ever created on my computer, this includes the installation folder (at Program Files), the profile (.default at AppData) folder, the Mozilla folder (ProgramData) and the Mozilla Firefox folder (also at AppData).
I also had the FEBE add-on installed, but like stated before, unfortunately I couldn't start Windows 7, forcing me to create a new partition to install a new copy of the OS.
    Thanks in advance.
PS. Sorry if I made the text too long and/or if I mentioned the same things twice, just trying to be thorough.

    Hi Sdarts,
I apologize for the delay in replying to your question, and I am sorry to hear that you are having issues restoring your Firefox user data.
Please see the following article, which explains how to restore your Firefox user data using a previously backed up Profiles folder, which seems to apply to your situation:

  • How can I restore my old history & bookmarks if I didn't run backup before re-installing a new clean OS? I've been using Firefox for 7 years as default, help me

    Hello,
I believe that what I'm asking is simple & clear. Do you or do you not store user data backups on your servers? I've been using Firefox, as the default browser, for over 7 years. Naturally, I had to upgrade my
pc's & operating systems several times through this period. Every time I use a new device & of course a
new OS, I normally lose my old data (History & Bookmarks).
If you keep records or backups of old users' data, there will be no problem & I could restore all my old data
following your instructions. If not, which is probably the case, I'd like to suggest you consider developing or
at least put more stress on running backup before uninstalling & re-installing a new OS for the users to pay more attention to this issue.
    That's all, thanks.
    Regards,
    Aly Hamed

hello aly, mozilla doesn't keep any of your history or bookmarks on its severs without your expressed consent (would be a horrible privacy policy otherwise) - there's the [[Use Sync to share your Firefox bookmarks, passwords and more with Firefox for mobile|firefox sync feature]] which will store parts of your private data encrypted in the cloud, in case you've used that in the past you'd need 3 components to restore this data: your username, password & the recovery key...
otherwise i don't know of any way to get to your old data if you haven't kept any other backup of some sorts - unfortunately most of us are reminded to the importance of backups when it's already too late :-/
in regard to your suggestion: during the firefox uninstall procedure your personal data isn't removed per default, so it would still be there after a reinstall of the application - you'd have to explicitly check the option to clear this kind of data in the uninstaller. some general information on where to look if you want to backup your firefox data in the future is available here: [[Back up and restore information in Firefox profiles]]

  • How can I restore bookmarks?

I have hundreds of bookmarks which I've acquired over a number of years, most in folders on the bookmark bar on my iMac. I use Chrome as a browser. I also have a Nexus 7 and have an app called Chromesync, to sync the bookmarks from my iMac to my other devices. I synced bookmarks via the Nexus 7 a few days ago, and when I went into the bookmarks bar on my iMac (and also on my Macbook Pro) the folders showed in the bookmarks bar but they were all empty... absolutely NO bookmarks at all.
I back up with Time Machine once a day. I also have an additional external HD which backs up once a week. How can I restore my bookmarks from either of those backups?
    Thanks.

Does anyone have any suggestions? I do have Time Machine backups and also a clone of my iMac HD on an external HD. I just don't know how to restore from them.
    Thanks.
