There are several different OS version versions that I support and auto update is not an option. I do updates at a specific time of the month. I would like to write a script that would download and install the update for the currently installed version of Firefox (32 or 64 bit) for the version of the OS (32 or 64bit). I can detect the OS version and the Firefox version. I can download updates but I do not want to hard code anything.

Sabian is correct.
Most admins download the updates from the ftp site and push via AIP, GPO, SCCM, or some other method whenever it makes sense for them.

I have latest updated version of firefox.
I have hp510 laptop with 1 GB of RAM.
My problem is that firefox is really good but uses too much of RAM(100 MB or more) while in usage.
How can I tweak firefox to use less RAM, as my system gets hammered.

I opened my extensions, and all are disabled, except ADBLOCK.
I usually clean my history on weekly basis, sometimes even on daily basis.
When I use firefox, most of the time ther is no other application in use by me (I don't encounter all those back apps for the system).
Most of the time, I have only 2 windows open , very rare there more.
The issue is that even at starting of firefox session I can see in task manager there is minimum 95 MB or charge, without any work done by me.
I usually have charge about 370-390 MB of RAM, but when I open Firefox it gets me up to 500 or more. -

Adobe Reader supports various industry standard tools for enterprise deployment. Note that a redistribition license might be needed if you are installing on behalf of others.

Most of our Mac users do not have admin privileges. So when they get alerted about Firefox updates, they don't have the ability to install them. We would like to disable Firefox for checking for updates, then push out updates from our software server as needed. We have about 200 machines to configure. Is there a way to disable checking for updates via script (bash or Applescript)? And if so, is there a guide or web site to explain the process?
Use a mozilla.cfg file in the Firefox program folder to lock prefs or specify default values.
Place a file local-settings.js in the defaults\pref folder where you also find the file channel-prefs.js to specify using mozilla.cfg.

I have a website called www.gethsemanechurch.net. I use Front Page 2003 to update and maintain the site. Currently this was all being done using IE. However, my IE is now updated to IE10 and I am having problems with IE10. I figured I would try to use Firefox at this time.
My OS is Win 7 and I am on a desktop.How do you use FrontPage now: do you edit your web locally and then upload it? Or do you edit the pages "live" on the site? Whichever browser you use, your workflow does not need to change. The main difference would be when you preview local files: FrontPage is likely to launch the local pages in your default browser.
With respect to editing ''inside'' Firefox, you can switch your source code viewer from the built-in window to an external program such as FrontPage. However, the file that opens in FrontPage in that scenario will be a local copy in a temp folder, it won't be your live website. For best results, I suggest continuing to do your edits directly in FrontPage.
Also... if you find that FrontPage is not creating pages compatible with Firefox, you may be able to adjust the settings, or you have the option to change to a completely different editor. One free one I've seen suggested is [http://www.bluegriffon.org/ BlueGriffon]. -
How can I stop FireFox from using Tabs?
This has become a really sticky point with FireFox and IE. Why are we forced to use a Tab bar instead of being able to have Links open a New Window???
I just installed FireFox 7.0.1 onto a Windows 7 System and can not find any way to turn off the Tabs. It makes it very difficult for me to compare websites and source codes when forced to use Tabs. How can I stop firefox from using aol as my homepage?
I've been using firefox for a long time & I love it. Recently there was an update and AOL became my homepage. Everything runs very slow since this update. I can't seem to find a way to get Firefox to return to the way it was. I still want to keep my aol account but I want to be able to sign on through firefox for most of what I do online. I don't even know how to get to the original firefox screen that used to come up. Please help.

Firefox continually re-installs AVG Toolbar and Secure Search and I need to be able to remove everything AVG permanently. My Alternative is to use another browser, so please advise asap?

In order to uninstall a possibly unwanted extension, please do the following:
#From the Firefox window click the Firefox button at the top left and select ''Add-ons'', or, if the Firefox button is not shown, click the ''Tools'' menu and click ''Add-ons''.
#Once the Add-on Manager has opened in a new tab, click the ''Extensions'' button on the left side of the window.
#You should now see a list of your installed extensions on the right side together with buttons on the right side of each extension.
#To remove an extension from Firefox, simply click the ''Remove'' button. You should see a message that informs you about the successful removal of the add-on.
#Note that some add-ons require a Firefox restart to be removed completely. To perform a Firefox restart after the add-on removal, click the ''Restart now'' link in the message.

itunes can not connect to server and I can't find its proxy settings.
So I think it uses these from IE and those are blocked by company policy.
So, how can I force itunes to use the firefox settingsI fixed this issue (with help from tech support) and it involved several things.
After adding a song to iTunes, right-click on the song in iTunes and select "Update iTunes Match."
OR go to the iTunes menu-->Store-->Update iTunes Match.
Maybe that's the reason, it just hadn't updated to the cloud.
OR maybe it's not a high-enough bitrate file. This happens to me because most of my tunes are home-recorded.
Sometimes converting to .mp3 or Create AAC version might work. (You do this with a right-click in iTunes, and then you will want to remove the original file from iTunes.)
There is an iTunes Preferences setting, under General Preferences called Import Settings. Try setting it to AAC Encoder and iTunes Plus. That (I think) causes imports to be slightly better quality.

How can I get firefox to execute perl scripts from local files
I have created perl scripts on my local host (file type ".pl").
In MS Windows I have associated that type to a perl interpreter installed on my local host.
IE allows me to create links to them and to execute them (after asking for permission).
How can I get firefox to do the same? It doesn't seem to allow me to add application types, only to change those that are already defined. As a result, in firefox, they just show up as text, instead of being executed.First guess is that you did not use an .html extension on the file. The file may well be ''name.html.txt''

How can you configure Firefox to apply updates as soon as they are available?
I have a mandate to update Firefox across every machine in my enterprise within 48 hours of a new release. I have been doing this with intranet distribution tools (SCCM, etc.) but because of the frequency of Firefox updates this has become laborious.
I've been looking at the about:config settings in the "app.update" category (http://kb.mozillazine.org/Category:Preferences) and some of those seem promising. As a test, I set "app.update.silent" to TRUE and "app.update.interval" to 60 (seconds) on a legacy version of Firefox. I restarted the browser, let it sit for a few minutes then restarted it again expecting the latest update to apply, but nothing happened.
How can I script or automate via Firefox's internal settings the same update process that is triggered when users manually go to Help > About?The Nightly versions have these values for some of the prefs because they can be updated daily more than once because of a respin

When I try to open a new tab using the "+" on the toolbar, nothing happens. Even trying to use the cntl t to open a new tab does not work. To open a new tab, I must right click on a hyperlink. how can I correct this? Using Firefox 3.6.18
The Ask Toolbar is causing that in the Firefox 3.6.13+ versions. Uninstall that extension.
There are a couple of places to check for the Ask toolbar:
