If you are on iTunes 11 on your Mac then you may want to re-enable the left-hand sidebar via View > Show Sidebar, which might make it easier to navigate and may instructions may make more sense.
To sync photos, connect and select your iPad on the left-hand side of your computer's iTunes (if you've enabled the sidebar), and on the right-hand side there should be a series of tabs, one of which should be Photos - if you select that tab you can then select which photo folders to sync to the iPad. There is a bit more info on this page. You will need to sync all the photos that you want on the iPad together in one go as only the most recent photo sync remains on the iPad - synced photos can't be deleted directly on the iPad, instead they are deleted by not including them in the next photo sync.
If you haven't enabled the sidebar, then from your library click 'iPad' at the top right of the screen and you should get a series of buttons along the top of the screen, including one for Photos

The hard drive on my Macbook is corrupted and so I am trying back up files from the hard drive on my Macbook to a target disc so that I can wipe the hard drive on my Macbook and re-install the system software. I am only able to access the Macbook via disc utilities using the start up system DVD. Is there a way of accessing the files while I'm in disc utilities so that I can transfer to the target disc?

If both of yours have Firewire, you can use the Target Disk mode described at the end of the tip. Otherwise, you'll need to pull the hard drive out of the machine that it is in, and put it in a 2.5" hard drive case that supports the ports that are on the other machine.
Note, if you can't read the data on the other machine, using a data recovery tool to a hard drive at least as large with no data on it is recommended. This tip explains how to do data recovery:

Bluetooth on the iPad is aimed at devices such as headphones and keyboards, not for transferring files - which would be a slow anyway. The supported bluetooth profiles are listed on this page : http://support.apple.com/kb/HT3647 . You can sync files via iTunes, or, if they app you want to transfer to supports it, via your wifi network. Plus some apps support Dropbox, email attachments etc

I have this problem, I can't send files from my Macbook with bluetooth. When I click on send a file nothing happens, as if I didn't clck at all. I can still receive files though. It was working last week and I haven't changed my settings since. I checked and everything was still enable. I guess I'm stumpted. If the iMessage server is telling you that the recipient's email address/phone number is not registered with iMessage when in fact they are, somehow it's not looking it up correctly (as it is when you try from your phone). Signing out of the account in preferences, then signing back in is about the only thing I can think of to "restart" iMessage. I suppose you could try signing out again, then restart your Mac and sign back in. If you didn't restart your Mac after you signed out of iCloud, you could try that too. If none of that works, you'll probably have to contact Apple support for assistance.

More then likely that external drive is formatted the Windows NTFS format which Mac OS X can Read but it can not Write to that format. So you would need to copy all the data off that drive, to either a Windows PC or to your Mac, thenn use the Mac to format it for the Mac OS. Which would be Mac Extended (Journaled) with a Partition Table of GUID.
If you want to use that drive on both Mac and PC then you would need to format it either FAT32 or exFAT.

The devices are not designed for transfer of that kind. Use Photo Stream as suggested by another poster, or transfer photos to your computer (a good idea anyway since they will be lost if your device needs to be reset), then use iTunes to sync them to the other devices.
