How can I soften the edge of a person in a photograph without changing the background?

I need to soften the outline of a girl in a photo without changing the background.  I have tried the Modify Edges tool in the selections menu, but the results of the feathering command do not show up on the photo.  Help!

Or you could brush with the Blur Tool.

When talking about a specific image posting the image may be useful.
One can use a Layer Mask and add a white Layer underneath.

  • How can I remove the background sound from the headphone jack for my MacBoo

for my MacBook Air problem adding music intensifier (Panasonic ST-HT1000) to give it an unpleasant sound background that sounds like a whiz, it's not so loud, but it is an unpleasant .. after a short time can get used to, but the fizz does not pass, however, believe that it is a big problem.
Further I notice that when MacBookAir disconnected from the charger, it remains quieter sound.
At first thought that the headphone jack (3.5 mm Headphone:
Connection: 1/8-Inch Jack) or wiere have problem, but tried 3 different cables, but that does change enything, the problem remains.
When I added iPhonu3GS playing - the background sound were not, then everything is OK!
How can I remove the background sound from the headphone jack for my MacBook Air 13?

There is no way to bring that up unless you have it typed in a document. You can use My Support Profile to find a list of serial numbers that have been purchased or registered with your Apple ID.

  • How can i make lightroom 3 import photos as filtered in camera without changing them to color?

I am a film photographer, recently acquired digital camera (Canpn 5 D Mark II) for the first time.  I shot in monochrome+sepia+green filter but when I import in LR it switches all the photos to colour.  How can I stop the monster?  Thanks.

Actually, you can, but at a cost.
You could use Canon's DPP to convert your raw files to tiff or jpeg and import those to Lightroom. Or you could shoot in jpeg rather than raw and import the jpegs into LR. The first is a hassle, and both will likely cost you some quality.
Personally, when I want a monochome image, I go to the HSL/Color/B&W panel in the Develop module, choose B&W, and adjust the sliders to give me the image I want.

  • How can I make the background inactive when I show a popup in Windows phone 8.1..?

I have created a popup in Windows phone 8.1. But the user can click buttons in the background. Can I disable this feature of popup...ie. I want the background to be unresponsive when popup is shown.
        How to achieve this....?

There are a couple ways to do this:
If you set popup.IsLightDismissed = true, when the user taps the background, the background will be unresponsive when the user taps the background. HOWEVER, tapping the background will cause the popup to disappear immediately.
When you open your popup, you can set Window.Current.Content.IsHitTestVisible = false, that should make the background untappable. However, you'll need to set .IsHitTestVisible back to true once the popup is closed, otherwise your app will be unresponsive
until the user closes and restarts it. You can subscribe to the popup.Closed event to tell when the popup is closed.

  • How can I get the background image of my website to cycle on a timer?

I'm afraid my experience with Javascript (Which I'm certain this will require) is fairly limited and I'm still quite new to Dreamweaver, so I'm posing this question to you guys.
I'd like the background image of my website to change every five minutes or so, however I'm unsure of how to accomplish this. For those of you with Windows 7, you can set the background of your desktop to cycle through a folder of images every ten minutes or so. I'd like something similar for this website.
    Thanks in advance.

Supersized can do this for you with very less need for code.
http://www.buildinternet.com/project/supersized/ - Take a look at their demo. It's also a lightweight plug-in and it has a lot of great effects you could use. Also x-browser friendly.

  • How can I make the background of the Menu Bar white? I have Windows Vista

After downloading the latest version of Firefox, the Menu Bar and the one underneath have a dark background that do not permit me to see the words or signs clearly. How can I fix this?

You may have installed a persona that isn't working properly for you.<br />
You can uninstall your current Persona and revert to the Default theme (Tools > Add-ons > Appearance/Themes).

  • How can I remove the background behind my selected graphic?

I have a logo that has a rectangular background behind it; I want just the logo itself. How do I get the odd shaped logo only off the rectangle? This was not created with AI, I don't know what program was used. I can't just ungroup.
I am learning this by trial and error, please - a simple explanation for my non professional ears.
    Thanks!

In a case like this just hiring a pro is not enough.
    sorry, I have to disagree.
Handing the graphic stuff to a pro works for so many clients. Why shouldn't it work in this case? There is no simple alternative available. It's just not possible to explain this in a few newbie-compliant words and there is no simple method to get the desired solution (a logo without a white background - or whatever color it may be).
Because you did not read what I wrote and decided to interpret it based on the one phrase.
This user or would be users has no background in computer generated art and perhaps non in the preparation of art in genera for reproduction.
Hiring a pro in itself will not make for a great result and there is a good chance not even a professional resul.
The reason is that they themselves do no understand the requirements and probably put the kind of restrictions on the Pro to do things that will make for failure.
They need some education and some know how to relate to what the pro is doing for them.
It would be different if they had a professional or experience person to mentor them on the client side but they do not seem to.
I wrote they had to do three things in order to get some form of knowledge so they can work with a pro.
The OP states hey do not even understand the meaning of some of our words and phrases and so they first need to gain the some understanding of what is gong on or they will be in a panic at every turn.
I would even venture to say that you have never worked successfully with a client that ha no understand about what you are required to do, I am not say the OP has to be an expert they do have to be able to communicate with a pro.
The OP has to know what the pro is telling them what they are doing for them etc.
If you have ever been in the position of working with some one totally unfamilar with the task at hand then you would understand what I mean.
I once had a client who told me he could actually take the photographs better then  I can if I would just show him the button on the camera that made the photos look good, so I pointed to the shutter release, he accused me of lying saying I was not showing him the secret button that professionals use.
He actually found a way he tells everyone that he took the photos I took that day.
So unless the OP has a good basic knowledge they cannot make rational decisions as is the case here.
to the OP I am not accusing you of being like my client but you do need some understand of what your designer would be talking about andkeep in mind that Ilustrator is not that easy to learn even if it looks like it would be.

  • How can I adjust the background for iSight on Leopard OS X?

    Hello,
Can anyone help me with adjusting the background so that when I put the CLOUDS on and then I step in, my face isn't partly covered... or any other mode of it. How can I fix it?

You can use ti wherever you would like, the only thing that matters is that your background be fairly uniform so your face clearly stands out against it. The software is very good but it needs clear contrast to keep track of what is background and what is not.

  • How can I restore the background color Firefox 13 used for displaying images?

I preferred the darker background color introduced in Firefox 13 for when images were displayed standalone, as opposed to the glaring white. How can I restore that behavior?

    That should still happen.
Start Firefox in <u>[[Safe Mode|Safe Mode]]</u> to check if one of the extensions or if hardware acceleration is causing the problem (switch to the DEFAULT theme: Firefox/Tools > Add-ons > Appearance/Themes).
*Don't make any changes on the Safe mode start window.

You can also check for a userChrome.css file with code to change the background color.
The customization files userChrome.css (interface) and userContent.css (websites) are located in the chrome folder in the user profile folder.

  • How can I get the background music from iMovie trailer, "Romance"to be used in another imovie?

Is there any way to download the background music from the  iMovie trailer template "Romance" to be used in another iMovie of greater length than that of a trailer?

In addition to Tom's good advice, another method is to access the audio file in iMovie's package contents folder.
In Finder, in the Applications folder, right-click (or control-click) on iMovie.app and select Show Package Contents from the pop-up menu. Open the folder Contents>Resources. In that folder you will find components for each Trailer, including the soundtrack. The file you are seeking is named "SoundTrack - Romance.m4a".
Copy then paste the file to your Desktop (don't otherwise mess with items in package contents folders!). Open the file in QuickTime - it is titled "Love Story FC2". Opening the Inspector in QuickTime (Window>Show Movie Inspector) reveals it as AAC format. If you wish, as Tom indicated, you can Export the file from QuickTime in other sound formats, such as AIFF. If preferred, you can import either the AAC file or the converted file to iTunes (or other audio apps) for use as required.
