How can I tell what setting was used to create a received PDF?

I get PDFs all the time and I can't find a way of knowing if the PDF was created using Press Quality, Standard, Smallest File size other than just looking at it and zooming in.
Is there a menu item or trick that will tell me how this PDF was created?

The image was almost 9 inches by 7 inches at 300 ppi and I reduced it to about 3 inches wide in my document. I almost never blow-up images unless they can take it without losing resolution.
Maybe I'm not looking in the right place. I went to preflight > sheetfed offset, clicked on Analyze and got lots of readings. The one that said "Resolution of color and grayscale images is less than 150 ppi. This might be insufficient for proper print results." is the one that threw me.
It's too bad that I just can't read how the file was created. Most of clients I deal with make PDFs and never look at the settings they use. I'm in the printing business.
I've just been looking at the PDFs sent to me and zooming in to see if they'll hold up but I'd really like something more accurate.

  • How can you tell what app is using a file?

I have a screenshot that I moved to the trash. I try to empty the trash, but it says the file is in use. Is there any way to tell what app is using it?
    Thanks very much.

There is a shell command (i.e. Unix executable) called fuser.
This program displays a list containing all the process-ids (PIDs) that are accessing a particular file at a given time.
To invoke it you just need to open a terminal window, wait for the command prompt (typically a "$"), then type fuser followed by a space and then drag the file from the finder to said terminal window.
Once the PID list is displayed, you need to look-up the process id (the first column) with the help of activitty monitor to see the name of the app that's accessing the file.
One final warning: make sure activity monitor is displaying "all processes" because the file is not necessarily being accessed by one of your processes.

  • How can I tell what library is used for readdir?

I have a problem that a program responds differently on two different unix machines, both of which are running Solaris 2.6, and using the same C compiler (4.2)
"readdir" returns a "struct dirent" where the d_name is offset by two bytes on one of the machines.
I have used ldd to detemine the libraries to which it is linked, and although they are linked in a different order, the libraries on each machine are byte identical. I have also proved that the program includes the same dirent.h file on both machines.
Dumping information from the libraries shows that there is a readdir function in /usr/lib/libc.so.1 and /usr/ucblib/libucb.so.1.
My assumption is that the header files give the same offset into the structure, but that one of the libraries is returning a differently constructed structure.
How can I find out if the program is calling the same one at run time?
Thanks for any help you can give.

I am reasonably sure that the lib that appears first in the ldd output is the
lib that is supplying the routine. One way to make sure is to use dbx to
set a breakpoint in readdir. If there are multiple copies of the readdir
symbol, which there should be in this case, it will prompt you with a list
of shared libraries that have the symbol and ask which one you want to
stop in. Pick one, then run your program. It will either hit the breakpoint,
in which case it is satisfying the symbol from the lib that you picked, or
it will not hit the breakpoint, in which case it is not getting it from that lib.
Delete the first breakpoint, then set another breakpoint in the same routine
and tell it to stop in the other lib. The fact that it stopped in the first lib
means that it's not likely to stop in the second lib, but there are ways for
it to hit both or neither. Check them both.

  • How can I tell what took someone used to make a flash...

When I'm out surfing around I come across Flash that I'd love
to make a one of. For example I like to do photography and I see a
Flash window that has thumbs across the bottom and a larger picture
on top, and then if you click on one of them you get a much larger
pictures, I looked at the source for the page, but I can't see any
clue as to what tool make that Flash...
If I like what someone has created in Flash, how can I figure
    out how they made it?
    Thanks

I don't have problems with many things, but being called a
    THIEF is one of them.
I did not say that I am helping the community move forward by
    decompiling others work.
I did say that the community CAN move forward FASTER when
people stop getting hung up on the idea that their code is
    something SACRED.
If you develop something new that has never been done before,
then you have something that you can protect.
If you want to see how other people did it, so that you can
better understand the different methods that can be used to do that
one thing, you are not stealing.
I know many people that take the same stance that I do.
People that look at code to understand it. Most of the things I can
do today because I looked at other peoples code. I didn't copy it,
I took hints from methods and used them to create my own methods.
Sometimes I decompile something, knowing how I would do it,
to see how that person did it. If they have any hints at better
methods that I could use to make my code faster, better. To say
that the majority of people steal is to take the standard American
view on the world. Americans tend to believe that everyone else is
a thief, a crook, whose only intent is to do wrong. (I am BTW, an
American, and I am very proud to be an American) If you step back,
and open your views, and your code, you will find a much different
picture painted. The majority of people aren't looking for
something to steal, but they are forced to take methods that people
would consider "stealing" to learn to do the things that they want
    to do.
There are many good reasons to look at code, with or without
the permission of the person who wrote it.
In the end, these are my views, and I am not alone in them.
Those are your views, and you are not alone in them. If you lose
respect for me, then you do. I am here to help who I can help with
the knowledge and experience that I have gained over my time as a
web developer. I only entered these forums recently, and therefore
don't have anywhere near as many posts as you do, but that doesn't
make my position any less accurate. The advice I have given people
is correct and true, and I offer up the things that others don't.
Even if you do not believe in using decompilers, decompilers exist,
and have their uses, therefore should be mentioned. In the end, I
lose respect for you, who I have held in VERY high regards since I
entered this forum, because you are closed minded, and unwilling to
offer the full information to people who are asking.
When I create code, I consider it open-source code. I am not
about to try to fool myself into thinking that people can't see the
code if I don't want them to. But why would I not want them to.
Because I spent hours writing it myself. At least, if others see
it, they won't have to spend as much time to get the same effect. I
know that some of these people will take it verbatim to use in
their projects, and not give me credit. But I don't expect credit.
It is a few lines of code, why should I get credit for writing it,
when I am not the first, nor the last, to write the same code.
Please do not respond to this. We both have better things to
do than sit and debate about the merits of open source code, and
    learning by looking.

  • How to find out what software was used to create a document?

    Hello:
I was sent a file to work with and it was supposedly made using a Mac computer, but I can't open it. How can I find out what program was actually used to create this document. It ends with xxxxx.rsrc. I even tried to open it on my PC and it says there is no default application specified to open the document.
    Thanks for your help.

Have you tried opening your file with Textedit?
Also, if you select the file from the Finder and type cmnd-I (Get Info), it should tell you what program can be used to open it.

Description: Request Validation has detected a potentially dangerous client input value, and processing of the request has been aborted. This value may indicate an attempt to compromise the security of your application, such as a cross-site scripting attack. You can disable request validation by setting validateRequest=false in the Page directive or in the configuration section. However, it is strongly recommended that your application explicitly check all inputs in this case.

Yesterday, I purchased Mountain Lion OSX and tried to download it but I don't think the download worked.  How can I tell if I am using Mountain Lion and how do I get help if the download was unsuccessful?

Click your Apple menu icon top left corner of your screen.
From the drop down menu click About This Mac.
If Mountain Lion is installed, it will say:  v10.8
If not, launch the App Store. From the App Store menu bar click Store > Check for Unfinished Downloads
FYI ..  for downloading Mountain Lion from the App Store, a high speed (broadband) internet connection is strongly recommended by Apple as noted here > iTUNES STORE - MAC APP STORE - TERMS AND CONDITIONS
If you need to reinstall OS X or repair the the startup disk Mountain Lion Recovery, that requires broadband access to the internet via Wi-Fi or an Ethernet connection. OS X is downloaded over the internet form Apple when OS X Recovery is used for reinstallation.

  • PAL or NSTC, how can i tell what format the vid clip is?

The 2nd abbreviation might be wrong...
    concerning vid clips
How can you tell what format clips are in before iMovie tells you?
I don't want to combine the formats and cannot figure a way to tell the difference before trying to burn the dvd

At the top of the iMovie project window it will tell you by giving the name you gave to the project as well as 'DV NTSC, or DV NTSC Widescreen.
Somewhat confusingly, when you set your choice of NTSC or PAL in iMovie's preferences when starting a new project (you can't switch later), these are only identified as 29.95 fps (which is NTSC) and 25 fps (which is PAL). Once you have set that, all iMovie projects you start will default to the same until you change it. You cannot combine the formats in the same project.
As you are in the USA yours will probably default to NTSC which is the TV system you use there. In Europe we set it to PAL which is what we use here.
A bit rudely, we also say that NTSC stands for 'Never The Same Colour Twice'!
PAL used to stand for 'Prolongs Active Life', but that was actually the tag-line in a dog food commercial! But they are useful mnemonics to remember them by!

  • How can i tell what devices are accessing my iMessages?

I suspect someone has set up an iPad to download my iMessages without my authorization. How can I tell what devices are linked to my phone's iMessaging?

Thank you both. I am changing my password...I was just hoping there was some way I could tell if this other person had been reading my iMessages up to this point. It seems like there is not. How about this scenerio: I turn off the iMessaging on my phone. I have someone who has iMessaging send me an iMessage. We see if their device registers their message as "delivered" even if it doesn't come through to my phone. Would that indicate then that it had been delivered to another device?

After you externalize the CM database, you should see the db objects (tables and views) in the database are now created shortly after you start the CM service.
You can verify creation of database objects in the actual database and in the plugin log upon start-up. This log can be found  under the ../ClientManager/plugin/tes-6.0/log directory
