How do I add photos from my imac to my ipad

I am trying to export photos i have in iphoto on my imac desktop to my ipad. I thought it was a simple drag and drop but not working. Tried exporting but ipad doesn't show up in device list. I have the ipad plugged into the imac. Do i need iphoto app on my ipad?

You either sync the photos with iTunes or upload them to the iPad with Photo Stream.

Sync photos and video clips using iTunes
Connect your iOS device to your computer.Note:  If Wi-Fi syncing is on in iTunes, you don’t need to connect the device to your computer, but they both need to be on the same Wi-Fi network, and the computer needs to be on. For more information on Wi-Fi syncing with iTunes, see your device’s user guide.
In iTunes, select your device and click Photos at the top of the window.
Select “Sync Photos from” and select the photos you want to sync to your device. On a Mac with photos in an iPhoto or Aperture library, selecting an album or event organizes the photos as an album or event in iPhoto. You can sync your entire library or select specific albums and events. On a Windows computer, selecting a folder organizes the photos as an album in iPhoto.
If you want to sync video clips, select the “Include videos” checkbox.
Click Apply.
When the sync is complete, click  ⏏ next to your device, and disconnect your device.
For Photo Stream see:

How can I transfer photos from my  iMac to my iPad and not lose the ones already stored on the iPad?  When using iTunes to sync a folder from the iMac to the iPad it always removes anything previously synced.
    Help appreciated
    David

I've just found out the reason for this behaviour. I am syncing from a computer which is different to the one I first synced with. iTunes can't cope with this situation so deletes anything synced from another source.

I have photos on my Ipad that I copied from my PC (that I am selling) & now want to add my photos from my Mac to keep them all in one place.  When I try to sync it says it will delete the photos on my Ipad unless they were taken with the Ipad.  How can I just add what is on my Mac to my Ipad without deleting what is on my Ipad?

"OK, so how do I transfer images to my computer? "
This has been answered.  The sync is one way - computer to ipad.  You can e-mail them to yourself.
" Whenever I connect the iPad to my Mac I get a message telling me that all the photos on the iPad will be replaced. Why?"
This is the design of the product.  It will sycn with one computer.  Sycning to anotehr will erase hte current content.  The ipad simply mirrors the selected content of the computer to which it is synced.
"When I connect my mp3 player to my PC, at home, I can find the player in Explorer and edit the contents, move or delete files, add files from my computer etc. All under my controll, simple and easy."
OK.  This is not the case with the  ipad.  It is not designed as a storage device.

How can I transfer photos from my Imac OS9 to a Macbook Pro OS 10 ?

The easiest way is probably to use a USB flash drive (you may have to test whether it is compatible with the Mac OS 9 iMac).
Somewhat more complicated would be to connect the two computers via Ethernet to (the built-in switch of) a broadband router, and then transfer files over the Internet (or a local network).
There are other methods as well (FireWire, CD-R, et cetera), depending upon the exact computer models involved.

When i click edit in a wiki page the menu at the top is different than the desktop version and there a no attachment buttons, no image buttons or video.
I tried copy pasting from photos but it just says Loading and the image does not appear in the text.

The transfer of photos from your computer via the iTunes sync/transfer process is a one way transfer process only - from your computer to the iPad. The iPad is not designed or intended to be a backup storage device. Photos transferred from your computer are optimized for viewing on your iPad - the resolution of most or all of these photos is reduced on your iPad, which is why transferring these photos in the opposite direction is not supported.
There are some 3Rd party paid utilities that provide for transferring these photos in the opposite direction, but such utilities are not supported by Apple and the original resolution of the photos will be lost. Here is one such utility that is Mac compatible.

  • How do i transfer photos from my imac to my iphone

How do I transfer photos from my iMac to my iPhone?

I've had many Apple Mac computers since 1994, and they have always been excellent pieces of equipment. The original ethic of Apple was intuitive, user-friendly, drag and drop principle. However, the iphone in my opinion has completely departed from this ethic.
Transferring a photo from your phone to a computer should be one of the easiest and most basic functions it can perform. I have a 10 year old push-button Nokia that can bluetooth a photo to any other bluetooth device in an instant.
However, for some reason, best known to Apple, they have now decided to make this process as convoluted as possible. No longer can one perform this simple task by via direct bluetooth link - oh no - you have to sync, and otherwise bugger about for hours trying to get one stupid picture from your phone to the computer.
They say you can email it - but what if one doesn't want email set up on their phone - I get enough email pouring in through my computer without having it spewing out of my phone as well, and even if you did have email set up, how is that better than bluetooth - it's going backwards - that's what we used to have to do before bluetooth.
The poster above - elmac -  illustrates how backwards this all is now, as he spends 'hours of trial and error' figuring all this crap out, and the 'best part of a day resetting his iphone' - these things are supposed to make our lives easier! Who wants to spend a day resetting their stupid phone!
Sorry Apple, your iphone is backwards technolgoy if it can't transfer a photo quickly and easily to another device in seconds without having to play Krypton Factor in order to do so. Even the **** Air Drop doesn't work between IOS and OSX - how massively crap is that.
As soon as my contract is up on this useless fascist slab, it's a Nokia for me, and the iphone will be launched from a vehicle at high speed.
