How do I avoid ORA-01473 when querying hierarchial on tables with VPD predicates

My question is how to circumvent what seems to be a limitation i ORACLE, if at all possible. Please read on.
When using VPD (Virtual Private Database) predictaes on a table and performing a hierarchial query on that table I get the following error message:
ORA-01473: cannot have subqueries in CONNECT BY CLAUSE
My query may look like the folwing:
SELECT FIELD
FROM TABLE
START WITH ID = 1
CONNECT BY PRIOR ID = PARENT
As my predicate contains a query in it self, I suspect that the implicit augmentation of the predicate results in a query that looks like:
SELECT FIELD
FROM TABLE
START WITH ID = 1
CONNECT BY PRIOR ID = PARENT
AND OWNER IN (SELECT OWNER FROM TABLE2 WHERE ...)
at least, when executing a query like the one above (with the explicit predicate) I get the identical error message.
So my question is:
Do you know of any way to force the predicate to augment itslef onto the WHERE-clause? I would be perfectly happy with a query that looks like:
SELECT FIELD
FROM TABLE
START WITH ID = 1
CONNECT BY PRIOR ID = PARENT
WHERE OWNER IN (SELECT OWNER FROM TABLE2 WHERE ...)
or do you know of any fix/patch/release to ORACLE that allows you to include subqueries in the CONNECT BY-clause and eliminates the error message?

The WHERE clause or AND clause applies to the line directly above it. Please see the examples of valid and invalid queries below, which differ only in the placement of the WHERE or AND clause. If this is not sufficient, please provide some sample data and desired output to clarify what you need.

  • Error ORA-01446 when updating a versioned table with SQLDeveloper 1.5.4

    Hi,
    I have been trying out Oracle Workspace Manager to test how versioned tables might work to our advantage. My basic testing process is:
    1. Create a table
    2. Add some data rows
    3. Version enable the table
    4. Create a workspace
    5. Goto the created workspace
    6. Update a row
    7. Commit and I get the following error
    UPDATE "COMSERV"."A_OWM_TEST" SET DESCRIPTION = 'ABCDEFGHIJzzzz' WHERE ROWID = 'AAAThNAAIAAAgwqAAY'
    One error saving changes to table "COMSERV"."A_OWM_TEST":
    Row 10: ORA-01446: cannot select ROWID from view with DISTINCT, GROUP BY, etc.
    The same update works fine from SQLPlus so my question is Does SQL developer support table versioning or have I done something wrong is setting up my versioned tables?
    Any suggestions greatly appreciated.
    Thanks
    Richard Wilkinson

    hye...
    is that any view referring to that table...
    check the code on how u create that view...
    for e.g.
    CREATE OR REPLACE VIEW testview
    (id, name)
    AS
    select * from testing;
    this also will populate that ORA-01446 error.
    just a suggestion cause i also have a similar problem on ORA-01446 and i resolve it by alter the view..
    CREATE OR REPLACE VIEW testview
    (id, name)
    AS
    select id, name from testing;
    correct me if i'm worng...i'm just a newbie..
    thank you...

  • How to avoid ORA-3113 when selecting from XMLTYPE table

    Hi,
    If I register an XML-schema, Oracle automatically creates a table xxxxxx_tab of XMLTYPE. (I use Oracle 9.2.0.1)
    When I do a DESCRIBE or a SELECT from this table I get the error: 'ORA-03113:
    end-of-file on communication channel' and my connection is dropped.
    I opened a TAR for this and Oracle says: 'It is an internal bug so cannot be viewed in metalink. This is fixed in release 10i.' (do they mean oracle DB rel 10i, or a new version of XDK?)
    I saw an example in Oracle Magazine (Jan
    2003) "Make XML Native and Relative" about Oracle 9i Rel 2 and XML. As you can see in codeListing 7, the author also does a select from such a
    table (CD331_tab): Why doesn't he have any problems?
    Is there a workaround for this bug? What's the purpose of being able to automatically upload XML-data to a registered schema if you can't do a select of the data?
    Thank you!

    It appears that the XML Schema is not entirely valid. Specifically, the definition of element "DeviceCategory" has two definitions of element "Audio" appearing within a <choice> model i.e. something like :
    <element name="DeviceCategory">
    <choice>
    <sequence>
    <element name="Audio">
    </sequence>
    <sequence>
    <element name="Audio">
    </sequence>
    </choice>
    This is disallowed by XML Schema spec per. the Unique Particle Attribution Constraint. The general idea is that a XML Schema describes a determinstic content model i.e. schema processor can always unambiguosly determine the matching declaration when it encounters an element. However that's not the case with the declaration above. On encoutering "Audio", it could match either the first or the second declaration of the element. Hence the error.
    You will have to rework the schema to avoid this constraint. One mechanism could be to define complexType and their restrictions.

  • Getting ORA-1013 when attempting to expand tables within connections

    Getting ORA-1013 when attempting to expand tables within connections on new install of Oracle SQL developer 3.1.06.
    Any ideas?

    Hi Steve,
    The ORA-01013 usually means a timeout or, more typically on this forum, an intentional user cancellation. Searching the forum, I do not see any prior references to your exact situation. Some recommendations:
    1. SQL Developer 3.1.0.6 was an early adopter release. Upgrade to the latest and greatest: 3.2.10.09.57
    2. Review this: Re: [SQL Developer 3.0.04] Cannot Drill Down
    3. If it is a true timeout, your privileges might make a difference. If you have access to the DBA views, SQL Developer does look-ups using those and performance is better.
    So for [3], having the SELECT_CATALOG_ROLE privilege may help. I even read of one case in this forum where the poster finally discovered his database's recycle bin had an issue and the DBA needed to do some clean-up to correct the performance issue.
    Hope this helps,
    Gary

    No, I don't think that explanation is correct. I don't think it has to do with user privs. besides, we don't
    adjust rowids on an import -- we recreate the index, just like a b-tree index import would.
    This should be working. It's most likely a bug in our (i.e. Text) import code -- SYS.XMLTYPE is a little
    strange because under the covers it's actually a function-based index.
    I will test it out and file a bug if I can reproduce the behavior on solaris.

    Is it possible to return to a page and let the procedure finish in the background. Or is it possible to get the Apex application sendig a message once in a while to keep the browser active?

    In HTML DB 1.6, you could create page processes that would run as background jobs.
    Since 2.0, you can't directly select that option, but there's a work-around that may still work:

  • How do we avoid duplicating images when downloading from an SD card

    We have Elements 13 and every time we download from an SD card, the images are duplicated.  How do we avoid that?  Is there a setting in the program we can go to. ?

    I have an iMac desktop and a Nikon Coolpix L24 camera.  I inserted the sdcard from my camera into
    the SD slot on my iMac to download all my latest photos.  When I noted that, apart from the photos, the download included hundreds of other designs, diagrams etc which I do not want in my iPhoto 11' Library.
    I will now have to trash all these unwanted designs and diagrams to clear my iPhoto Library.  Apple's iPhoto has not been a good experience for me so I will probably use Nikon's photo system which is much better and user friendly too.  Regards, Ken J Lancaster.

  • Receiving OCI/ORA-27163 when querying XML data in 11g.

    When querying a table with a column stored in XML format, we get this error for large XML values. This works in Oracle 10g but this error happens when the same data is queried in an 11.2.0.3 instance. I have had a support request open with Oracle for about a month and so far it has not made any progress. What we've seen are the following:
    1. The xml data itself is good.
    2. The good xml data when queried with a wholly 10g client/server environment, works.
    3. The same good xml data when inserted into a table in an 11g instance through a stored package run from the 11g instance (server to server) gets the 27163 error.
    4. The same xml data when queried in a 10g instance from an 11g client fails with the 27163 error.
    5. If we disable the 11g XML parser by setting an internal event (alter session set events='31156 trace name context forever, level 0x400';), then run the same code that was run in item 3 above, it does not get the 27163 error. However, the xml loaded to the 11g instance can then only be queried without getting the 27163 error if we use an older 10g client. An 11g client consistently gets the error.
    The server versions are 11.2.0.3 (upgraded from 10.2.0.4). The SQL*Net client versions that we have tested on are 11.2.0.2 and 11.2.0.3 (both produce the 27163 error).
    With considerable trial and error, we found that it is some combination of the file size and format that causes the error. Copied below is the smallest sample data of a failing XML that will produce this erro (about 8K). Remove any single character even in an a comment and the file parses successfully – but it’s not the file size alone as the original 800+KB file where we first dicovered this problem will process if the period in the attribute: @value=”${item.id}” is removed.
    We are at our wit's end, and with an 11g migration project looming, any ideas anyone can suggest would be very helpful.
    Thanks,
    Joe
    Here is a test case to play around with. Sorry I don't have a way to upload a zip file for this, but you can cut & paste from the post:
    1. CREATE TABLE my_xml_test
    (record_id NUMBER(4,0),
    xml SYS.XMLTYPE,
    comments VARCHAR2(200))
    ALTER TABLE my_xml_test
    ADD CONSTRAINT my_xml_test_pk PRIMARY KEY (record_id)
    USING INDEX
    2. mkdir SampleData
    3. cd into SampleData, copy the XML I will post in the first reply to this message into a new text document called xml_items_removed.xml.
    4. cd .. and create a file called 20120112_11g_bad_xml_issue.txt with this in it:
    1, .\SampleData\xml_items_removed.xml,"Fails: OriginalXML w/ all instances of <Item> removed (count 600) -- reduces file size to ca. 55KB but still fails (Saved by XMLSpy)"
    5. Next create your SQL*Loader control file (call it my_xml_test.ctl):
    LOAD DATA
    APPEND INTO TABLE my_xml_test
    FIELDS TERMINATED BY "," OPTIONALLY ENCLOSED BY '"'
    TRAILING NULLCOLS
    record_id,
    ext_fname FILLER CHAR(200),
    xml LOBFILE(ext_fname) TERMINATED BY EOF,
    comments
    6. sqlldr <username>/<password>@<database> control=my_xml_test.ctl data=20120112_11g_bad_xml_issue.txt log=20120112_11g_bad_xml_issue.log bad=20120112_11g_bad_xml_issue.bad
    7. Once the data is loaded, query my_xml_test table that you created in step 1. You should get the 27163 error:
    SELECT a.record_id,
    comments,
    a.XML,
    length(a.XML.GetClobVal()) clob_length
    FROM my_xml_test a

  • Ora-00942 when querying object privs

    Hi, I have a OEM 9.2 accessing an Oracle 9.2 instance. When querying object privs I get error 942. All else works OK. I have 07_dictionary_accesibility=true and the OEM user has DBA and select any dictionary privs. oms.nohup does not show anything unusual neither dbsnmp.log . Any ideas?

    there will still be some sys objects that may throw this

  • How to minimise performance degradation when querying a growing table during processing...?

    Hi everyone
    Let's say you have a PL/SQL routine that is processing data from a source table and for each record, it checks to see whether a matching record exists in a header table (TableA); if one does, it uses it otherwise it creates a new one. It then inserts associated detail records (into TableB) linked to the header record. So the process is:
    Read record from source table
    Check to see if matching header record exists in TableA (using indexed field)
    If match found then store TXH_ID (PK in TableA)
    If no match found then create new header record in TableA with new TXH_ID
    Create detail record in TableB where TXD_TXH_ID (FK on TableB) = TXH_ID
    If the header table (Table A) starts getting big (i.e. the process adds a few million records to it), presumably the stats on TableA will start to get stale and therefore the query in step 2 will become more time consuming?
    If so, is there any way to rectify this? Would updating the stats at certain points in the process be effective?
    Would it be any different if a MERGE was used to (conditionally) insert the header records into TableA? (i.e. would the stats still get stale?)
    DB is 11GR2 and OS is Windows Server 2008
    Thanks

    What do you mean 'presumably the stats . .'?
    In item #3 you said that TXH_ID is the primary key. That means only ONE value will EVER be found in the index so there should be NO degradation for looking up that primary key value.
    The plan you posted shows an index range scan. A range scan is NOT used to lookup primary key values since they must be unique (meaning there is NO RANGE).
    So there should be NO impact due to the header table 'getting big'.

    Hi all, There is an user exit J_1I7_USEREXIT_CALC_EXC_BASE which has the KONV structure, you may put your logic to derive the excise base and pass it to field EXCITM_BASE which will update the assesable value. For example, you will have the JEXP cond
