How do i back up Dashboard settings (widgets)?

Hi,
i plan to write a simple unix script ("cp") to back up all my data to dvd. How do i back up my Dashboard widgets? i'm assuming they're all stored in a file or folder somewhere, and i'll be able to just "cp" this file or folder to the dvd device.
thanks,
js.
PowerBook G4   Mac OS X (10.4.6)

Use a command such as:
cp ~/Library/Widgets/ '/Volumes/volumename/Widgets/'
Replace volumename with the disk's actual name. To back up preinstalled widgets, omit the ~ at the beginning of the first path.

    Error 9
This error occurs when the device unexpectedly loses its USB connection with iTunes. This can occur if the device is manually disconnected during the restore process. This issue can be resolved by performing USB troubleshooting, using a different USB dock-connector cable, trying another USB port, restoring on another computer, or by eliminating conflicts from third-party security software.

Restoring Your Computer to Its Factory Settings
When you restore your computer to its factory settings, everything on your computer
(your user accounts, network settings, and all of your files and folders) is deleted. Before
you restore, back up any files you want to keep by copying them to another disk.
Write down your network settings from Network preferences to make it easier to get
connected again after reinstalling Mac OS X.
1 Make sure you’re connected to the Internet by using an Ethernet or Wi-Fi network.
2 In the Mac OS X Utilities pane, select Disk Utility and click Continue.
3 Select the disk in the list on the left, and then click the Erase tab.
4 Select Mac OS Extended (Journaled) from the Format pop-up menu, type a name for
the disk, and then click Erase.
5 After the disk is erased, choose Disk Utility > Quit Disk Utility.
6 In the Mac OS X Utilities pane, select Reinstall Mac OS X and click Continue.
7 To reinstall Mac OS X and your applications, follow the instructions in the Mac OS X
    Installer.

  • How can I get Normal video settings back

Before I launch into describing the problem, I thought I would tell you that I really had hoped it would have been a common problem, and therefore went through about 12 pages of topics and problems before I decided to open a new topic. The closest thing I found was from someone who apparently experienced part of my problem - a shifting of the screen.
What I really need to know in lieu of a specific solution to the specific problem is to know how to get back to Default settings for monitor display. Something I did screwed things up. I am not even sure precisely what I did to mess it up, because I actually did several things that could have contributed. But, the end result of what I did was that my screen font display looks wierd, and not normal. I have an ATI video card, and I hit Detect display, so it flashed off and then back on. What is the setting that the display is normally set on. I have tried various solutions, but can't seem to get back to where it once was. I would presume that a reinstall of OS X would do the trick but that seems too radical of a solutioni. Any ideas? Thanks in advance.

    Hi-
What is the setting that the display is normally set on
You didn't say what display you are using.
Try a new user account. Everything will be at default in the new account.

  • Restoring Preferences and Dashboard settings

Can someone please tell me what files have to be restored in order to revert to a previous set of Preferences, dashboard settings, widgets and Safari preferences? I've tried to restore the preferences file in Library and even the entire Library from several prior backups, but the system seems to go back to the default set every time instead.

Thanks for your help on this. Although I was restoring from the correct Library, I didn't log out/in after the restore, so the preferences reverted back to default values. I also made the mistake of restoring the entire user Library, so there are now missing files in other areas (such as mail - I had to go to another computer to get your message - still haven't been able to restore the mail files and settings).
RIght now, I am back to the Preferences I want but need to figure out how to get the mail folders and settings back. Restoring the mail folder from Library doesn't seem to work.

  • Settings widget on iPad Air has 1 alert but can't find it anywhere in settings nor figure out how to remove it.

Update to iOS 8.0.2 on my iPad Air flagged my Settings Widget with 1 alert.  I cannot find the reason for the alert anywhere within Settings and have tried to restart (i.e., power and touch ID) several times to no avail.  Would appreciate anyone's help trying to ID the problem and instructions on how to get rid of the alert, please.
    Thanks!

OK. Got it. sounds like the alert is hung after updating to 8.0.2. Based on past experience, it will not hurt anything, and will likely go away on its own after a bit. However, a couple of troubleshooting steps:
Open Settings app > General > Software updates. Verify that you have indeed installed 8.0.2
Try a reset: Simultaneously hold down the Home and On buttons until the device shuts down. Ignore the off slider if it appears. Once shut down is complete, if it doesn't restart on it own, turn the device back on using the On button. In some cases it also helps to double click the Home button and close all apps BEFORE doing the reset.

  • Hi Support team, somehow my mozilla settings have been changed and it baceme transprenet, now how to change back to normal ?

Hi Support team, somehow my mozilla settings have been changed and it became transparent, now how to change back to normal because everything is transparent, menus, pages etc.

This could be the same problem other users are reporting as a white screen or black screen, caused by an incompatibility between Firefox 33 and some older graphics card/chipset drivers.
Please disable hardware acceleration as a temporary workaround. Step-by-step directions in this thread: https://support.mozilla.org/questions/1025438
    Does that work?

Firefox 4 requires at least OS X 10.5 and an Intel Mac.

I have been trying to sync my phone, but it says i need to get the new software ios 5.1, but in doing this I will lose some things purchased on my phone which arent on itunes, and I should transfer them It also says something about apps and that i will only be able to store basic settings like contacts and texts. How can i back my phone up before installing this software update, and what do i do about my photos?

  • How to get backed up apps back after restoring it to factory settings

Hi, I recently tried to update to the new 3.2.1 update, but something happened and it restored my iPad back to factory settings, the good thing was that I backed all my apps before I tried to update, but now I can't figure out how to get them back. I see them in iTunes, but when I sync my iPad it doesn't download them back (and yes, I'm using the same account).

    Have you tried this:
To restore the software on your iPod touch, iPhone, or iPad:
Connect your iPod touch, iPhone, or iPad to your computer.
When the device appears in the iTunes window, select it.
Click the Summary tab, click Restore, and then follow the onscreen instructions.
If you back up your iPod touch, iPhone, or iPad, you can restore your settings from the backup at the end of the restore process.
    Good luck.

  • How to search for a dashboard widget

Can someone tell me how to search the Dashboard site for a specific widget?
    http://www.apple.com/downloads/dashboard/
The ridiculous thing is, I think I asked this same question within the past year and someone answered it. But I'll be damned if I can find the search button again. It just is not intuitive. And when a friend asks me how to do something and I need to tell them I have to ask on the Apple website it's sort of embarrassing.

Type in Dashboard or widget as well as the name or description of that widget into the text field at the top right of the page. Press Enter.

Windows can not identify that an iOS device is in recovery mode. Only iTunes can identify that.
What is the EXACT error message you're getting?
