How do I call an external program

From within my Java program I want to execute an
external program and dump the output into a string
or array of strings. In perl this is trivial $a=`dir`.
How do I do it in Java?
Thanx,
Art.

with Runtime
            try {
                    Process p = Runtime.getRuntime().exec("cmd.exe /c dir");
                    BufferedReader in = new BufferedReader(new InputStreamReader(p.getInputStream()));
                    String str = "";
                    while((str = in.readLine()) != null)
                        //do what you want to with input
                    in.close();
                catch(Exception e)
                    e.printStackTrace();
[/code[

  • When I call an external program from Labview, how can I embed the interface into the front panel?

    I'm running Labiew 6i for Linux. I'm using a system exec.vi to call an external program to do image manipulation (since there is no IMAQ for linux). How can I embed the user interface of the external program into the front panel of Labview?

    As far as I know, the only way to embed other GUIs in LabView is an ActiveX in a container.
    As long as you are using Linux, try to place (moving them on the desktop ) the two windows linked (like those 3 of WinAmp).

  • How to call a external program in java?

    Help!!
    Is there any method that can a java program can call a external program? For example execute a exe file.
    Thanks.

    Yes.
    Runtime.getRuntime().exec("exactly what you would type at the command line");
    But be aware that this is operating-system-specific and full of gotchas. When you run into one of them, come back to the forum and do a search, this is a frequent topic of discussion.

  • Calling an external program!

    Salut all, Im using unfortunately Oracle Forms 6i, and I need to call an external program that I have to develop in Java, compiled into .jar. I just wanna use something like java -jar myJar.jar <my params...> but I don´t know how to call external programs from Oracle Forms, in special from 6i.
    I have searched this thread passed (Re: Calling JAVA from PL/SQL but didn´t help me so much.
    Thanks all for patience!

    In version 9 and 10 we have a general way of calling out to java thru the Java Importer functionality.
    If you cannot upgrade to these later versions and you don't need to get data back from the jar file execution you can always use the Host command to call it directly the way you have outlined.

  • Before calling an external program, check if the program is allready open

    I need to call an external program to print some labels, so i will use function WS_EXECUTE or the new one DSVAS_DOC_WS_EXECUTE_50 to call my program, but the problem that i have is:
    when I call this function, the program open a small window, and if i have to call it again, it will open another window, and so on... obviously this is not a good solution.
    Is there any one how knows how can i close the program, of perhaps it is enough if there is some way to know if the program is already open.
    Many thanks in advance,
    Miriam

    Hi
    you can use the ABAP Coverage Analyzer.
    OR
    This is a function module we use to limit the execution of a program to one instance at a time.
    DATA: PRG LIKE INDX-SRTFD. PRG = SY-CPROG.
    CALL FUNCTION 'ENQUEUE_ESINDX'
    EXPORTING RELID = 'ZZ'
    SRTFD = PRG
    SRTF2 = 0
    EXCEPTIONS FOREIGN_LOCK = 1
    SYSTEM_FAILURE = 2.
    IF SY-SUBRC NE 0.
    FORMAT COLOR COL_NEGATIVE INVERSE ON.
    WRITE: / 'ERROR: Program Is Already Running'.
    WRITE: / 'Program', PRG, 'has been stopped. Rerun in 1 minute.'.
    STOP.
    ELSE.
    WRITE: / 'OK ',PRG.
    ENDIF.

  • Calling an external program (*.exe file) on the client

    Hi,
    I use 9iDS and I'd like to call an external program (*.exe file) on the client, but this exe file is located on the server not on the client.
    So it should be something like a mixture between host and client_host(webutil) command. Is it possible to use client_host where a virtual path is passed to?
    Regards Sören

    Are you saying you want to run on the exe on the client but its located on the server???
    In that case you would have to do a webutil file transfer to move it to the client before executing. Or, if you are calling a DLL, webutil will download it automatically from the server to the client (see the C API example on the webutil page).

    I have several site's with very complex contents - AJAX, SSL and so on. And I would like to "give tasks" to Firefox - give me HTML of this page after all updates using AJAX or click on that links.
    It's it possible? if yes than how?

    Hai follow the bellow steps
    Sending system side(SEND--800)
    Create function module by using Tcode SE37 or SE80
    goto attributes select remote function
    activate
    Receiving system side(RECE--000)
    goto Tcode SM59
    here select the R/3 Connections-->click on Create Button
    give RFC Desstination : TESTRFC
         Connection Type  : 3 for Connecting two systems

                          & Remote logon(f7)---> it will open a session
                            with client 800 that is your sending system
                            then only your RFC is correct
    create a report in SE38 Tcode
    data : c1 type i.
    data : itab like mara occurs 0 with header line.
    call function 'ZRFCFM' destination 'TESTRFC' --->Function Module 'ZRFCFM' your just create at Sending system

  • How can I execute an external program from within a button's event handler?

    I am using Tomcat ApacheTomcat 6.0.16 with Netbeans 6.1 (with the latest JDK/J2EE)
    I need to execute external programs from an event handler for a button on a JSF page (the program is compiled, and extremely fast compared both to plain java and especially stored procedures written in SQL).
    I tried what I'd do in a standalone program (as shown in the appended code), but it didn't work. Instead I received text saying the program couldn't be found. This error message comes even if I try the Windows command "dir". I thought with 'dir' I'd at least get the contents of the current working directory. :-(
    I can probably get by with cgi on Apache's httpd server (or, I understand tomcat supports cgi, but I have yet to get that to work either), but whatever I do I need to be able to do it from within the button's event handler. And if I resort to cgi, I must be able to maintain session jumping from one server to the other and back.
    So, then, how can I do this?
    Thanks
    Ted
    NB: The programs that I need to run do NOT take input from the user. Rather, my code in the web application processes user selections from selection controls, and a couple field controls, sanitizes the inoputs and places clean, safe data in a MySQL database, and then the external program I need to run gets safe data from the database, does some heavy duty number crunching, and puts the output data into the database. They are well insulated from mischeif.
    NB: In the following array_function_test.pl was placed in the same folder as the web application's jsp pages, (and I'd tried WEB-INF - with the same result), and I DID see the file in the application's war file.
            try {
                java.lang.ProcessBuilder pn = new java.lang.ProcessBuilder("array_function_test.pl");
                //pn.directory(new java.io.File("K:\\work"));
                java.lang.Process pr = pn.start();
                java.io.BufferedInputStream bis = (java.io.BufferedInputStream)pr.getInputStream();
                String tmp = new String("");
                byte b[] = new byte[1000];
                int i = 0;
                while (i != -1) {
                    bis.read(b);
                    tmp += new String(b);
                getSelectionsDisplayTextArea().setText(getSelectionsDisplayTextArea().getText() + "\n\n" + tmp);
            } catch (java.io.IOException ex) {
                getSelectionsDisplayTextArea().setText(getSelectionsDisplayTextArea().getText() + "\n\n" + ex.getMessage());
            }

  • How can I call a java-program as receiver

    Hi Folks,
    I have to call a java program, based on the XI-Server as receiver. My qustions are:
    What is the right adapter type
    What are the parameters to give the xml to the program
    Thanks a lot
    matthias

    Hi Mathias,
    I would suggest, generate a java proxy of ur inbound interface (reciever).
    1. In the java proxy implementation method you will
        have  access to the message sent to the interface,
    2. You could then use this message(XML) and Call ur
        custom java program from the java proxy.
    here is a link on how to implement java proxies

  • How do I call a C++ program from Java?

    I've tried using Runtime.exec to call my C++ program from Java but I don't think I'm doing it correctly. Could someone explain how to properly use it? Here's what I'm trying (this is in an applet that is only going to be running on an intranet so only PCs in my LAN will be affected):
    Runtime runtime=runtime.getRuntime();
    Process proc =runtime.exec("mkdir C:\\Test");

    What do you expect your operating system should do with a command "mkdir"? It doesn't understand this. "mkdir" is a shell command, so you need to execute the shell:
    runtime.exec("cmd /c mkdir C:\\test");

  • How to find called T-code/Program of another T-code/Program

    Hi Experts,
        Transaction 1 calls Transaction 2. I need to know, which transaction called transaction 2, being in transaction 2. How?
    i.e., Can I find the program which called the current program which is running??  Is there any function module to find out??
    Thanks and regards,
    Venkat

    Standard program is calling custom program and I want to know the standard program.
    I created a menu item in help menu of sap screen. So, that Item will come, wherever you are( all SAP sessions ).
    I want to give help info based on the t-code in which my new menu item was clicked.
    So, I created a new menu item in standard pf-status, which will call my custom program.
    In that pf-status I have set the function type as transaction code and it calls the custom transaction code as I require.
    Now in my custom transaction code's program, I need to check, from which standard transaction I clicked the new menu item.
    I think now you will be able to catch my requirement.

    hi there
    well, then we need more information what you mean with a "C program". are you talking about C source code, a command line executable, a high end executable with a GUI, a dll, ActiveX.... what are the parameters you have to pass? what parameters are returned from the "C program"? please post some code....
    as a startup you could search the examples shipped with LV. open the example finder from the runtime menu.
    Best regards
