How do  I change the icons?

I would like to customize the icons on my desktop. is this possible?

There are several good utilities out there for creating your own custom icons. You can download sets of them from the download page. All you have to do is do a Get Info on the item with the Icon you want to copy, click on the icon at the top of the info window, copy (cmd-c), get info on the item where you want the new icon installed, select its icon, then paste (cmd-v). Note that if the target item already has a custom icon, the new icon may not paste in properly. The solution is to select the icon in the info window of the destination item, press delete, then paste the new icon.

    How do I change the icon representing my bookmark? I don't want the one that comes up automatically.

    I'm trying to change an icon on a bookmark. These are the instructions I received: 'Lets you replace a bookmark's icon / favicon. Right click any bookmark, select "Properties", then "Browse". '
    But there is no "Browse" when you select "Properties". So what do I do?
    When I go into the regular Google it has a 'Change Icon' tab in the 'Properties' tab. Why doesn't Mozilla?

    You cannot directly. If you have a jFrame (e.g.) with your own icon you can use one of the JDialog costructors using (Component owner, ... ). Then the dialog will display the same icon.

  • HOW DO YOU CHANGE THE ICONS IN YOUR DOCK

    I have went onto the apple site and downloaded fun icons to spice up my desktop and folders and I have been successfull in changing the folder icons but do not know how to change the icons in the dock.....can someone please help me out.....thanks in advance

    here's how i do it... it may not be the most elegent way but it works.
    1) download the icons you want to your desktop
    2) right click on the one you want to use and select "copy"
    3) go to the application (in your application folder, NOT the dock) and right click on the application, and select "get info"
    4) a pop up window will open with all this stuff in it. left click on the top icon in the info pop-up window
    5) go to the finder bar (the bar on the top of the desktop) and pull down Edit, then select Paste.
    6) drag the old icon off the dock into the trashcan
    7) drag the new icon from the application folder to the dock

  • How can I change the icon for incoming messages on iChat?

    I already changed the icon for the ichat app, but whenever i get a new message it reverts back to the original icon with a number on the corner. I have an icon for the alternating messages i just don't know how to change it. HELP?!

    Hi,
    It's a long time since I changed an Icon on anything on my computer.
    The icon for the App is stored in the App and there are two ways to change  it.
    You can do a  Get Info (CMD and i Keys together) on the app itself and then Paste a new icon to the top field.
    The other way is to edit/change the icns file in the App itself.
    Right/Control Click the app and choose Show Package Contents.
    Open the Contents folder then Resources and the iChat.icns file is in there
    I am presuming that if you use the first method - the bit that puts the Red area with the number in it uses something else (possibly the icns file)
    I cannot find any "supply" of the red numbers.  In fact I use Chax (An iChat Add-On) that changes this  to the first part of the first IM that is not read - which suggests the red area is the important bit.
    If you do try to edit the .icns file I would save the Original first.

  • How can i change the icon in JDialog

    Hi,
    I have created a regular JDialog with new JDialog("Title");
    My problem is, the JDialog has the standard Java Icon.
    Is there a way to change this icon to a custom icon.
    I know you can change the icon in a JFrame, but haven't found anything how to change it in a JDialog.
    Any idea?

    Yep,
    there is no way to do it apart from using a different constructor:
    .... = new JDialog(Frame owner,String title)
    If you have set the Icon in owner , your JDialog will have the same icon.

  • How can I change the icon for the bookmarks menu button

    Using linux, the default icon for the bookmarks menu button is quite ugly. Is there a way to change the icon for the button with some code in userChrome.css ?

    After several intents, I found a solution.
    This is my userChrome.css file:
    @namespace url("http://www.mozilla.org/keymaster/gatekeeper/there.is.only.xul");
    toolbarbutton[class="toolbarbutton-1"]#bookmarks-menu-button image[class="toolbarbutton-icon"] {
    list-style-image: url("bookmark_gray.png") !important;
    -moz-image-region: rect(0px, 0px, 0px, 24px) !important;}
    Probably it's messy but works.

  • How do i change the icons back?

    I just downloaded iOS7 and immediately hate the icons and the text message look.  It looks like something a 10 year old girl would design.  Is there any way to change the icons and the text message look back to the way it looked in iOS6?  Or to at least use a different "skin" for text messages?
    I want a small computer not a child's toy.

    Someone said "writing here doesn't achive much"
    I disagree. Using the Apple feedback page will achieve less. That is a black hole where your comments get read by who knows. Out here in the open, on the internet, that's where things can happen!
    I've tried to get used to the new look iOS7 design, but I really hate it and prefer the old look for serious reasons.
    This isn't subjective opinion, there's a solid reason why the flat, bright simple interface is harder to use. Things are not visually segmented anymore. There's too much bleeding of one group of functions, or item, into other neighboring groups of interface elements. Whether it's selecting a menu item, tapping an icon, or a tab, the similarity of one element with the next, makes it harder to use because I'm constantly double checking what I'm about to tap because it's not intuitive. The old iOS6 interface was a more confident, visually helpful interface.
    The app store is like looking at wireframes from phase 1 of a new website build. Maybe Apple just couldn't be bothered taking it beyond wireframes. Those iOS7 designers went to the snow early I'm guessing, and left a bright white glaring screen which really is unpleasant to browse at night.

  • How Do You Change the Icons / Change Multiple Icons?

    I've learned that to change most icons on the Mac is Getting the icon you want to change, and the icon you are changing it with. You select "Get Info" by holding "ctrl" and clicking on each icon. Then You click on the icon on the top left of the "Get Info" window. This highlights the icon, and now you can Copy it. Now you click on the icon in the other info window, and paste the icon on top of the former.
    But
    *How Do You Change Icons Such As the Garbage Icon?*

    i.e. To change the default blue folder icon, to another icon, and make it stick until that preference/setting is reset. And also have it set so the the new icon will appear when I "create a new folder."
    Anything is very much appreciated.

  • How can I change the Icon on the JFrame?

    Everytime, when I create an application, the default javalogo will show on the left top concern of the application which using JFrame, how can I change it to the other?

    Have you tried using the setIconImage method like this:
    JFrame F=new JFrame();
    F.setIconImage(Toolkit.getDefaultToolkit().getImage("myIcon.gif"));
    Here is what the API doc says:
    setIconImage
    public void setIconImage(Image image)
    Sets the image to be displayed in the minimized icon for this frame. Not all platforms support the concept of minimizing a window.
    Parameters:
    image - the icon image to be displayed. If this parameter is null then the icon image is set to the default image, which may vary with platform.

  • How do you change the icons in the dock?

    I want to change a few of the default icons (finder, address book) in the dock...how do i go about this?

    Cocktail5555,
    I finally figured out how to change the Finder icon. Heres how.
    1.) Get your icon that you want for Finder and put it on the desktop. Name it "FinderIcon.icns". Make sure the name is exactly as I wrote it or it won't work (including caps).
    2.) Go to: Finder/system/library/coreservices. In coreservices there is a bundle called CoreTypes.bundle. Do a right click on this and open up "package contents". Go to resources.
    3.) In there, there is a file called 'FinderIcon.icns' and it has the photo of the finder icon on it. Make a backup of this (just in case it doesn't work) and name it something like "backupfinder".
    4.) delete "FinderIcon.icns from Core Types.
    5.) Drag your icon from the desktop into the folder (you'll have to authenticate first).
    Then, download this: http://www.versiontracker.com/dyn/moreinfo/macosx/32346
    That is called 'LiteIcon'.
    Once that is downloaded, open it up and in the top right-hand corner there is a button called 'relaunch finder'.
    Do so.
    If all is right, then VOILA! your finder icon is changed!

  • How can I change the icons in Mail?

    I recently upgraded to Yosemite. I hate how the icons in Mail are REALLY BIG which causes me to have to scroll a lot to see my lists of folders. Is there a way to make them smaller?

    Nevermind. I figured it out:
    System Preferences > General > Sidebar Icon Size
    BTW, that vivid neon blue for, most notably, radio buttons and arrows on pulldown menus, is really annoying.
    I miss skeumorphism.

  • Bob, how did you change the icon of your Windows drive?

    CandyBar only shows my Macintosh HD in the volumes window.
    I am afraid to drag it into CandyBar's volumes window as this might unmount it and cause all sorts of issues.
    Thanks ... Ken

    Click the icon (of the Winodws drive) and click '+I', do the same with the icon you would like to replace it with. Click the little icon [that is there when you click '+I' (its really small in the top left corner) on the icon you are going to use to make it for the Windows drive] until there is a blue highlight around it. Once it is, click '+c', now go and switch to the Windows drive & make it highlighted, and then click '+v'. You should see the icon change to the one you replaced it with.
    This doesn't make very much sense but I hope it helps =)
