How do I clean under the trackpad?

Every now and then I get so much crap under there, it's difficult to use. Usually, I need to go to the Apple Store so they can clean it but I'd like to save some time and gas money for something so simple. Is there a way to clean it that won't void the warranty (I assume opening it up might be an issue).

The only "under the trackpad" I am aware of is between the surface you are resting on and the trackpad resting on it.  Otherwise there is no "under" you can get at as far as I can tell.
Just wipe the underside of the TP with a soft rag.  Clean the top with something like iKlear using a microfiber cloth.  That's what I do at the same time I clean my display surface with the iKlear.

  • How to easily clean under 2012 MacBook Pro trackpad?

Ok so.... I know it's stupid of me and before I begin, I am ashamed of myself!! *facepalms*
I spilt a sticky berry drink on my MacBook Pro 2012, I've cleaned under the keys but some are still slightly sticky, but my point is some clearly got underneath the trackpad (it has no button so I can't easily stick a strip of paper under there), and I was wondering, is there any way to clean under the trackpad without any disassembly (at least not much, definitely not from the bottom)? If absolutely necessarry I will take it into my nearest Apple Store, but I'd rather that I could do it at home.
    Thank you for your help
    EXTRA DETAILS
I wiped the laptop down quickly, tried not to let it soak in too much.
Both the laptop and the trackpad and mouse are still working fine, and the exterior is clean, but it's simply just annoying as my left click does not feel like it's going down as deep as it should (it doesn't feel like the right click which has not changed).
I got it in October, but would rather have it fixed than replaced.
    Thanks again,

    Welcome to Apple Support Communities
Apple only supports client versions in Macs, but you should be able to install Windows Server. However, note that you may have problems installing Boot Camp drivers in order to make it work correctly.
If you only want a computer for Windows Server, buy a PC. Macs aren't completely ready for Windows Server editions even if they may work

  • How to open files with the trackpad?

    Hi,
On my old Powerbook, I could open documents with a double tap. On my new Macbook Pro, I cannot do this. I have to press Control and then the bar under the trackpad. Is there a better shortcut to opening docs?
    Thanks.

How new is that MBPro? It appears that the preferences you have are different from mine and that they support the additional gestures (as on the Mac Book Air). Methinks you should try the box "Tap to Click" under the single finger gestures as the next items Dragging and Drag Lock are what follow the box I suggested earlier on mine.
If it doesn't work, turn it off and try something else.

  • How do I clean out the "Open With" dialog box when I right click an image?f

    Hi,
When I right-click and image to open it in a program I get a long list of programs to choose from. Many are duplicated or the same program but different version #s like Preview. How do I clean out the dupes and ones I don't want and keep the ones I do?
How would I add CS3's Adobe Camera Raw to the list?

Do a search for details on cleaning up the "open with" dialog, it's been discussed before but I'm sorry I can't remember what the fixes are.
I have duplicate choices too but have never tried to clean them up.

    Best regards
Since Apple designed iOS (per Steve Jobs' insistence) to be specifically incompatible with Flash, I wouldn't worry about what Flash content to use in headers for devices that can never, and will never, be able to see it.
I stopped using Flash for anything in my websites about six months ago, converting what I had to HTML5 (MP4) and any new content that would have previously been done in Flash is going the be the same.

Macbook Pro   Mac OS X (10.4.8)

This was standard procedure at the computer lab at my college. Just make sure to use compressed air cans designed for photographic and/or electronic use.
Put the extension tube on the can. Holding the keyboard/laptop at an angle, insert the nozzle between each of the rows of keys and give it a few short blasts. Debris will be blown out of the opposite end of the keyboard.
Make sure not to hold the can on its side or upside down when you do this, because the propellant in the cans can come out as a liquid and may leave a residue.
I still do this routinely with my systems, and have never had a problem. My oldest laptop is now seven years old and has not suffered any ill effects. We did this weekly at the computer lab.
My main problem at home is cat hair, which is easily removed by this method; friends of mine with beards say it also works for the occasional errant whisker. Cleaning keyboards at the lab in this manner dislodged all kinds of nasty bits, quite often including Doritos...
Ned, this actually does work pretty well. Worst case, it just blows the larger/heavier debris to one end of the keyboard, where it can be more easily tapped out.

  • How did dust get under the screen?

I bought a PB used about a month ago and it was in like new shape with the exception of one dead pixel that annoyed me. This is getting picky but now I noticed there is a piece of dust about an inch away from the dead pixel which really annoys me when I see those. I don't understand how a piece of dust got under the screen, I've had my ipod touch for over 2 years, in my lint filled pockets and it doesn't have any dust under the screen, just in the creases of where the glass ends. I've only had the PB a few weeks and when transporting it I have it in the cloth sleeve, and I clean it often, how could it have gotten in there, through the speaker grill? And could I use like an air compressor to blow it out or would that possible cause damage to it. I was going to buy the convertible case and a screen protector soon but still I don't see how that happens. Sorry for the dumb post but it is really annoying and I want to know if anyone else has had that happen or if it dust can be blown out.

Thats too bad. I dont get how its getting under there, Im thinking probably through the speaker grills but I'm not sure, the dead pixel was annoying enough but if any more dust gets under there its going to be really annoying to see all that on the screen. I dont know if the one already in there might move to the edge so its not as noticeable or if it might work its way out over time, if more get under there though Id say the best solution would be to take the glass off, if its even possible on the PB, I dont know that much about them, I heard the battery isnt removable but I think that means user removable meaning a PB dealer could open and replace it. If it can be opened without a professional without scratching anything then maybe just taking the glass off will work but I'd only do that as a last resort. I'm starting to get more and more disappointing with the PB the dust, the battery life isnt what I hoped for it to be, and there are very few good apps. Maybe when the ipad 3 comes out I can get a cheap ipad one to fill in for where the PB lacks

  • Cleaning under the keys

What is the best way to go about this? I finally decided I think it'd be a wise investment to purchase an iSkin ProTouch Keyboard Protector for my going on 5 month old MacBook, but before that, I'd like to know what would be the best way to get out dust, hair, etc. from the inside of the keyboard. I'm constantly wiping away these things from the top of the keyboard, so I wish to not worry as often with the iSkin, but want to clean out the bottom before I start using the product.
I think I've heard about compressed air for this type of thing. Am I mistaken? Where would one go to buy it for such a purpose and how do you safely clean a keyboard with it?
    Thanks

Thanks for the hint. This might be a silly question, but is there anywhere you should be aiming the air to clean out the keyboard? It kind of just seems like you'd be blowing it around underneath the keys without really getting rid of anything. Is it just as simple as sticking the little hose under the keys and spraying air around?

  • How do I find "under the hood" in iPhoto

I purchased duplicate finder and it asks me to access under the hood in Iphoto.I can not find under the hood .Help please

I bought the Duplicate Finder app in Applestore I have tons of duplicate photos in IPhoto I run OSX 10.9.2
    I use IPhoto 9.5.1
Here is the help page for Duplicate Finder app it tells me to go into the highlighted area below to run the app in IPhoto.I do not undestand how to get to the under the hood tab see bottom of the page
    Preferences
The preferences window can be accessed from The Duplicate Finder menu. All options in Preferences have a description field, to describe its functionality. In case if you have questions related to detailed information about a specific option contact us.
    Search for duplicates in iPhoto
To properly scan your iPhoto Library an option called "Scan duplicates in iPhoto" has to be enabled at the bottom of "Under the Hood" tab.
This option forces The Duplicate Finder to analyze the meta information of iPhoto libraries and show only the actual duplicates within iPhoto. By removing iPhoto duplicates from The Duplicate Finder, iPhoto is launched and the items are moved to iPhoto's Trash. To permanently delete the items and free up your drive space the Trash of iPhoto needs to be emptied.
Note: Only the removal of the currently active iPhoto library items are allowed. Warning messages are displayed for the selection of items inside inactive libraries.

  • Satellite P850/P855 - how can I turn off the trackpad light?

    Hi,
I recently bought the laptop model mentioned on the title and I would like to know how I can turn off completely the trackpad light.
By deactivating the trackpad it turns on and even if I go to
->Synaptics Poinitng Device -> Device Settinngs -> Disable Internal pointing device when external USB pointing device is attached the light remains active.
Is there a way to turn it off, no matter if the trackpad is on/off ?
    Thanks in advance

For some reason the function keys are not working as well as the eco button..... The keyboard isn't lit however the trackpad is.
Anyway I will try to fix it, thanks

  • How to get rid of the trackpad drag release delay?

I've had the MacBook Pro now for about a month. First Mac ever, been a PC user for a very long time. I'm converted, I really like the system and Mac OS but still trying to work out some minor usability issues.
The one that really kills me is the delay when I'm trying to drag something with the trackpad, I lift my finger, and I have to wait a second for it to actually release whatever I'm dragging. I can see how this may be useful in some cases, but personally it's annoying. I want it to release instantly and I can't seem to find a setting for this in the preferences. Am I missing something there? If I wanted this type of behavior I would turn on the "Drag lock" option. Anyone know if it's possible to get rid of this delay?
I've had answers saying that it's the sensitivity of the track pad, but I'm pretty sure it's software related as I have Ubuntu installed on another partition and it doesn't behave that way, things drop instantly after releasing my finger.
It would be nice to have the option to turn off/on the delay in future updates.
    Thanks

Actually, that's only partially correct. We aren't talking about drag-and-drop, we are talking about dragging windows around, dragging sliders, etc. That feature is enabled if you have 'Dragging' checked.
The setting you are referring to where you tap to release is 'Drag-Lock'. In that case, the dragging 'sticks' or is 'locked' until you tap again. What we are talking about is if you have dragging turned on, but drag-lock turned off. In that case, it's still locking, but only for about a second or so (or shorter if you tap again to release, just like when drag-lock is turned on.) What we want however is the very moment we lift our finger, we want the dragging to release instantly, no delay or tap needed.
I can't help but think there is some setting in some plist file somewhere, but I haven't been able to find it as of yet. Still looking, but nada so far.
That's what we're trying to find.
    Anyone? Anyone? Bueller? Bueller?
