How do I clear midi device port name cache?

My Behringer BCF2000 suddenly started showing it's Midi port name as "BCF2000" instead of "Port 1" "Port 2" and "Port 3". The same device on another mac shows the three ports correctly, then back on the confused mac it shows the one port and with the wrong name.
I've tried spotlighting "audio midi plist" and deleting all those, also tried a new AMS configuration, neither worked.
Does anyone know how to fix this?
Otherwise where is this kind of device naming stored in the file system?
Thanks!

On the Instrument I/O>VISA>VISA Advanced>Interface Specific palette is the function VISA Flush I/O Buffer.

    Rainer,
Maybe you can try the "VISA Flush I/O Buffer" vi (VISA - VISA Advanced -
Interface Specific). It worked on a serial port, but I have no idea if it
    works
also on a parallel port. It is worth trying it.
    Good Luck.

  • How to put External MIDI Device on REC and also REC audio sources?

    Hi,
I'm new at Logic 8 and i'm having trouble urderstanding how to put an external MIDI device on Rec and still record other Audio tracks.
I created an External Midi device in the Environment and created a midi track and a audio track for the device, so far so good, it all plays well.
But when i try to record the device at the same time as other audio tracks the midi device records but the audio does not, and i can listen to the audio that is getting in but Logic doesn't record anything.
Another thing that i cant understand it why i can only trigger the rec on the external midi device if it is selected?
    Regards,
    Herculano

After enabling "record" (R) hold down shift and select all tracks you want to record to. You can either do this in the Arrange or in the Mixer section

  • How do I clear Apple's java 6 cache after the 2012-006 update?

Due to some applets that I have to use at work being incompatible with Oracle's Java 7, I have had to re-enable Apple's Java 6 plugin by following the directions here:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT5559
Java 6 does work for me  in all of the browsers on the system. However, I am having some issues with an applet and I suspect that the culprit might be in data left in the cache. Since Java Preferences was removed from Applications -> Utilities, how do I go about removing the cache? I have found /Users/<username>/Library/Caches/Java, but removing this directory didn't solve the issue. Since I don't know if this is really the location that Apple's Java 6 stores its cache, I don't know if removing that directory does anything for clearing the cache.
What is the official way to remove Apple's Java cache now that Apple's Java Preferences is gone? Thanks for any and all help!

Download and install the Java for OS X Lion Update 1 which should reinstall the Java Preferences app.
I have no clue what Apple's position is on clearing caches.

  • All Midi devices Play at same time help in resolving

    Environment:
2 presounus Firepods,Oxygen 61, Yamaha DTX Exployer Drum Trigger, Panasonic SX KC-611 Keyboard, Logic Pro 8, Mac Book Pro, Mac OS X10.58.
Question? How to get each midi device to be separate from each other so I can Play and record each device?
I can get any one of the instruments to play fine by themselves one thru the USB Port, and the other two thru the Midi in and out of each fire pod, however when I hook all three to the system to play, them at the same time, each instrument will trigger the other two. Each is on a separate channel.
    Help

Thanks for your reply, and my apologies for being unclear:
I have the SWFs loaded into empty movieclips, one for each SWF, which are on each keyframe in the main timeline. The movieclip instances are named but the names aren't referred to in the actionscript. Doubleclicking the instances on each keyframe to go into their scene 1, and on layer 1, I've put the nextFrame() actionscript on the first frame, which is empty.
So to load all of the SWFs into one movieclip, I now have all of the movieclip instances the same one on each keyframe, and the first keyframe has:
    loadMovieNum("firstanimation.swf", 1);
    followed by on the second:
    loadMovieNum("secondanimation.swf", 2);
    and so on.
What's happening now is the first and third SWFs are playing at the same time and the second one isn't at all. Is what I'm doing wrong jumping out at you?
    Thank you

  • Two simultaneous MIDI devices?

I'm having problems figuring out how to play two midi devices simultaneously in Logic Pro 8, and can't find any clear answers on how to do this.
This is exactly what I'm trying to do:
I'm using Reason as a bank of rewired instruments. I have a redrum set up to run through channels 3 and 4 in Reason and a synth set up on channels 7 and 8. I want to control these with an Ozonic keyboard and an MPD 24, respectively.
In Logic, I have the external instruments set up and routed to Reason, with my aux channels set up and everything. The main problem is that I can't figure out in the environment window how to route the individual pieces of hardware ONLY through one instrument. Actually I can do this if the track is highlighted, but if it's not, I get no sound from either instrument. There's something fundamental I'm missing, I'm certain, but the goal is to have two people playing these two devices at the same time.
Hopefully that wasn't confusing. Any suggestions or page references in the manual?
I think I'm just not understanding the environment concept correctly.

    IMPROVED VERSION
Sorry, disregard the previous post - I could somehow not edit it anymore. This is the edited version:
How are the two keyboards connected to the computer? If they have individual ports:
In the environment, go to the *Click & Ports* layer. Do the two keyboards each have their own *Physical Input* there? If so, open a second Environment window, keep it in the mixer layer, and from the first window draw cables from the respective Physical inputs of the keyboards (not from SUM, disconnect that) to the channels strips in the mixer layer that are loaded with the instruments the respective keyboards have to control. Once they are directly cabled like this, it does not matter which channel strip you have selected anymore, both keyboards will play those instruments.

  • Cannot obtain Transmitter from virtual MIDI device

    Hi all,
working on Linux, I'd love to be able to process MIDI events generated by some other program (say, the Rosegarden sequencer) from within a Java application. Rosegarden itself doesn't show up in the list of devices detected by MidiSystem.getMidiDeviceInfo(); however,
I figured out that the snd-virmidi kernel module might be the way to go. And indeed, after loading it, I get some new ALSA raw midi devices:
    Port     Client name                       Port name
14:0     Midi Through                      Midi Through Port-0
    16:0     SBLive! Value [CT4830]            EMU10K1 MPU-401 (UART)
    17:0     Emu10k1 WaveTable                 Emu10k1 Port 0
    17:1     Emu10k1 WaveTable                 Emu10k1 Port 1
    17:2     Emu10k1 WaveTable                 Emu10k1 Port 2
    17:3     Emu10k1 WaveTable                 Emu10k1 Port 3
    20:0     Virtual Raw MIDI 1-0              VirMIDI 1-0
    21:0     Virtual Raw MIDI 1-1              VirMIDI 1-1
    22:0     Virtual Raw MIDI 1-2              VirMIDI 1-2
    23:0     Virtual Raw MIDI 1-3              VirMIDI 1-3
    128:0     rosegarden                        record in
128:2     rosegarden                        external controllerEach of the virtual midi devices now nicely shows up in Java's device list -- actually, each of these virtual ALSA devices seem to be represented by 16 different Java MidiDevices (does anyone know why?). All these devices report -1 as their maximum transmitter count (which, I understand, indicates an infinite number of transmitters) -- but whenever I try to obtain a Transmitter object by calling getTransmiiter() on one of the devices, all I get is an exception like the following one:
javax.sound.midi.MidiUnavailableException: MIDI OUT transmitter not available
         at com.sun.media.sound.AbstractMidiDevice.createTransmitter(AbstractMidiDevice.java:444)
         at com.sun.media.sound.AbstractMidiDevice.getTransmitter(AbstractMidiDevice.java:299)
         at de.tcrass.midicast.MidiCastServer.<init>(MidiCastServer.java:63)
at de.tcrass.midicast.MidiCast.main(MidiCast.java:8)Any idea why those devices won't give me any transmitters?

    Captfoss,
    >
Which does not necessarily mean that Java has the necessary permissions to access these virtual devices...
    >
it doesn't make any difference whether I call my test program as myself or (via sudo) as root -- I consistently get the "MIDI OUT transmitter not available" exception. The kernel (and hence: ALSA) version doesn't have any influence, either (2.6.24 vs. 2.6.26).
Do you (or anyone else) have any clue where else in 'the longest text adventure ever' (as some people have called Linux ;-) something might have to get adjusted to grant a Java program permission to obtain a Transmitter? As I said, the value of -1 returned by getMaxTransmitters() suggests that there shouldn't be a shortage of Transmitters... (Or should I file this behaviour as a bug?)
Regards, and a good start into 2009 --

How to configure a map of patches names of my midi device in order to insert program changes from Logic?

You can usually use a patch editor-librarian program like Sound Diver or MidiQuest to copy and paste the patch names (one bank at a time) into the patch name list of a multi-intsrument object in the environment.
That's what I do.  Works like a charm.

"My first copy of Logic came on Floppy disks"
And you will need to setup bank change commands for your particular instrument, if it does in fact have several banks of internal patches. Logic comes with a selection of bank change commands, one of them will almost always work.
My first copy of Logic came on floppies, two of them I think and was MIDI only, moved up to Logic_Audio at version 3.0 I think.

  • How to control external MIDI multi-timbre device

I have an external midi device that has distinct buttons with which I can control on/off individual sounds. The device has a single midi channel but many different sounds that can be turned on/off in any combination - i.e., I can have two or more sounds turned on which the device mixes down to its stereo outputs.
Each specific sound has a name and can also be controlled with a midi message in the form of "Bn 49 xx" (on event) or "Bn 4A xx" (off event). I would like to be able to control these sounds from logic pro.
Note that I have refrained from calling these "sounds", "patches". A fundamental difference between a patch and a "sound" as I described above is that you can only select a single patch at the time - I need to be able to turn on/off any combination of these sounds.
Hope it is clear to someone what I am trying to do... your comments are most welcome.

After some serious support from Pancenter (thanks again!), I arrived at a working configuration using Apple’s Environment editor. In the hope that my learning experience is of use to someone else, hereby a quick write up.
My objective was to control the stops (programs) of two pipe organ modules from Logic Pro 9, preferably with a nice graphic interface.  The modules are broken up into 3 sections that each have a direct midi channel. I already set them up on my midi controller and could play a midi file on them just fine but not the stops. Rather than a typical synth program switch, stops on an organ can be turned on/off in any combination thereby mixing the sounds together.  The documentation I had showed these midi byte sequences for turning on/off a stop:
Bn 49 rr  = stop on
Bn 4A rr = stop off
with ‘n’ being the midi channel, and ‘rr’ the hex code for a particular stop.  With Pancenter’s help, I started playing around with a Fader/Button 3 on the “Click and Ports” layer from the Environment (command 8).  A button can be used to send a variety of midi message types, in my case I need a Control message with its channel set to the appropriate midi channel of the pipe organ module (channel 2 for me).  A midi control message has the form <control byte> <byte 1> <byte 2>. The byte 1 field holds the specific control and byte 2 the value for that control.
Buttons send their max value when on (depressed) and min value when off. i.e., the value of byte 2.  As you can see from the midi sequences listed above, this creates a bit of a complication in my case because the value ought to stay the same but the control (byte 1) must change.
I decided to set the button values to the midi stop I wanted to control as the min value and the max value as the stop +1. So my button out going sequences are now:
    Bn 74 34    stop off
Bn 74 35    stop on   this should be changed to Bn 73 34
    (Notice that 74 = 4A hex and 34 = 22 hex)
Using a transformer object right after the button, I detect the Bn 74 35 sequenc and change it to the desired Bn 73 34. As it turns out... easy as pie when you get a little help from a friend ;-)
This is the button with output to the transformer:
The inspector details for the button:
    The transformer setup:
The entire pipe organ module with stops, just need to clean up the names a bit and we're done. Notice that I used a fader text object for the stop headers.
I am a 2-3 week user of Logic Pro and must admit that I am starting to be thoroughly impressed with its capabilities. The Environment editor is ahhwwsome though perhaps a bit daunting at first.   Thanks again Pancenter for your totally cool help !
