How do I close applications.

I'm new to Apple, have an iPad and want to know how to close applications to save power. It seems like when I do a four finger sweep of the screen, I go through all of the applications I've had open that day. Thanks for any help.

Apps in the mutitasking bar are not a power using concern.  IF you want to conserve battery power here are a few tips:
cycle power on your device daily to reset background processes (different from mulitasking bar)
turn off wi-fi ask to join networks - so not always looking for networks
turn off bluetooth if not using it
turn off notifications for things you dont need
set mail to check manually
Other than that there are other apps that help you manage battery life and such.

  • TS1541 How do I close applications so that I can install new software?

I am trying to install office:mac but I get the mesage I must close Firefox and safari before I can continue the application installation. I'm stuck! Help. How do I close the applications?

Unless something else is going on that you've left out, you simply click and hold on the icon in the Dock, or the name of the app in the menubar, and select quit from the menu that appears.
Now, if you already know that, which you probably do, and they still won't quit, go to the Apple menu  and select force quit. Now, if you've already tried that, open Activity Monitor in Utilities, select the process, in this case Firefox or Safari, and select Quit Process from there.
But needing to force quit or quit from Activity Monitor shouldn't be happening and we'd need to find out why.

Hello. I am a new Mac user and loving it so far. I was just wondering, how do I close the applications with the blue light underneath them on the Dock? For example, I want to close Microsoft word, so the blue light is not underneath it anymore.

With new ph download how do you close apps running. In the background

Obviously you didn't search the forum prior to your post as there have been a lot of posters with the same question. Double tap on the home button as usual. Scroll left or right to select the app that you want to close and swipe upward to close it. The iPhone ios7 user guide is available online from Apple support and from the ibook store on your phone.

  • How do I close applications in Lion?

Granted I'm still trying to find my way around Lion and I'm sure I have just not stumbled upon this yet but how the heck do you close out apps, web sites, ANYTHING now?! I hate that I have to keep swiping back and forth and that there are so many windows open. I think my Pro is running so hot because I have so much working at once. For example, if I have Safari open and I'm ready to work in Pages all the Safari pages stay open until I finally have to shut the entire computer down. I restarted a movie on Netflix like 3 times after I finished it because it remains mysteriously hidden in the layers of what I cannot swipe thru.  HELP!

Apps on the Dock will have a "light" glow beneath the icon showing that are running -- you can right click and pull up the contextual menu and quit those you don't want to be active.
I'm still using Draghting (which seems to work perfetly in Lion still) -- it has a processor menu showing all active apps and you can manage them that way.

Try ( alt + cmd + esc ).  Gives you a menu of running applications, and a chance to "Force Quit".

There is a mechanism built into subVIs and subVI calls to open when
called and close when finished. This still works fine for many tasks
and is quick and easy. To use this, you can use the File>>VI Properties
on your subVI, go to Window Appearance, Customize, and it is in the left
    column near the bottom.
You can also set this on a subVI call by right clicking, choosing SubVI
node setup and set the same Open when called and Close on exit settings.
The difference between them is that the first will affect every usage of
    the VI, whereas the
second can be set to pop open sometimes and other
    times not.
Of course there is another way, introduced when the VI server was added.
There is a VI property for the VI class, Front Panel Window Open.
Setting it to True and FALSE will open and close. There is also now a
method for opening and closing with a few additional options.
The VI Server allows for more control and flexebility, but the first two
options are still perfectly valid for simple things. If using them,
closing your subVI is as simple as exiting your outer loop of your
subVI. This returns and closes the window all at once giving control
and and data parameters back to the caller. If using the VI Server, you
can either close the window just before returning or leave it to the
caller. Just be sure they are in agreement.

How do I uninstall an application that I downloaded by mistake? It won't let me move it to trash as it says it's open. How do I close it?

Launch the Activity Monitor in /Utilities and sort by name. Select any that refer to the app (shame you didn't indicate what it was), click on the Quit Process button, and click on Force Quit. When all are gone, empty the trash.

  • How to list running applications and how to close ...

apparently hitting the home icon on the phone does not close an application necessarily. How do you find out what is running? And how do you close them for good? thanks

For the most part they really aren't running but are suspended.  You will probably use more battery checking and backing out than you would doing nothing.
However a very few apps may be running in the background.  If you go to setting -> applications -> background tasks you will see apps up top that are running in the background at the top and you will be given an option to turn it off.  Try this with something like Nokia Drive.
Don't confuse this with the settings below that allow apps to run in the background.  Most of the time you will only see this as apps typically don't stay active.
