How do I convert a Variant of type=String to G data? (LV 5.1.1)

I've tried to return a string in the Variant return of a VB function in a DLL. (I want to do this so that I can retain the interface and thus binary compatibility in the DLL.)
When I use the DLL function in LabVIEW 5.1.1 I
get an error in the call library function call (returning). It looks like there is a way to handle this in v 6.0 but I have to use 5.1.1 for this application. Is there a way for LV 5.1.1 to handle a Variant containing a string?
Thanks

Hi Dave,
you can use the type conversion function located under advanced -> data
manipulation to convert the variant into a string.

    Most times you do not need to convert it. Just wire it stright into what ever string input.

    Hi,
    How can I convert an ArrayList (only with strings) to a String[] ?
    I've tried this :
         public static String listToString(List l) {
              StringBuffer sb = new StringBuffer();
              Iterator iter = l.iterator();
              while (iter.hasNext()) {

                   if (iter.hasNext()) {
                        sb.append(',');
              return sb.toString();
    But what I get is an array of xxxxx@435634 (for example).
    Thanks a lot !

    Strings are Objects but not all Objects are Strings and at least one of the elements in your List is not a String.

    You can also use any of these methods if you need to get more complicated:
    Integer.toString(int i)
    Integer.toBinaryString(int i)
    Integer.toHexString(int i)
    Integer.toOctalString(int i)
    Integer.toString(int i, int radix)

  • How can I convert a Waveform to a String-Format?

    Hello,
    I write with "SQL-Execute.vi" datas to an Access-file. The "SQL-Execute.vi" needs a statement in String Format. And that is my problem. My source-datas (that I want to save to Access) are Waveforms. How can I convert the Waveform datas to a String Format?
    Thanks for help!

    Wire the waveform to the Get waveform componants function...from that you get t0, delta t and the sample values. Now you can generate whatever string you want based on that information...
    You could e.g. wire the Y array to a for-loop in which you calculate the time of each sample by taking t0 and adding delta t multiplied with the array index, then you could convert the Y value and the time to strings using the seconds to time string and number to fractional string functions...etc etc...

  • How do I convert a bitmap/jpg type image to vector graphics/editable outline?

    Corel Draw 5 did this very nicely but it's obsolete and I can't load it onto this machine (HP all-in-one Pavilion desktop with Windows 8).
    I am working with hand-drawn images but since I need to manipulate the outline/s with a 4 - 12 pixel tool, it would be great to just be editing nodes instead.  Creating the image from scratch as a vector graphic would be a horrible large amount of work and is not feasible at this time.
    Is there any way other than Corel Draw 5 to make the conversion from bitmap-type images to editable vector graphics, ie: editable nodes?
    Thanks.
    PS - I don't have $700 - $1000 to spend on  software at this point but do have Photoshop Elements 11, Premiere 11 and Lightroom, plus GIMP and the usual.  Where should I start?

    For occasional conversions, did you consider 'online bitmap to vector' conversions ? Do a Google search for that.
    For more advanced and free solution, consider inkscape. It's a real vector drawing tool and can convert bitmaps.

  • HOW can I convert int value char TO String

    I am trying to study Java by books, but sometimes it is quite difficult to find answers even to simple questions...
    I am writing a program that analyzes a Chinese text in Unicode. What I get from the text is CHAR int value (in decimals), and now I need to find them in another text file (with RegEx). But I can't find a way how to convert an INT value of a char into a String.
    Could you help me?
    Thank you in advance.

    You are confusing matters a bit. A char is a char is a char, no matter
    how you represent it. Have a look at this:char a= 'A';
    char b= 65;Both a and b have the same value. The representation of that value
    can be 'A' or 65 or even (char)('B'-1), because the decimal representation
    of 'B' is 66. Note the funny construct (char)(...). This construct casts
    the value ... back to the char type. Java performs all non-fraction
    arithmetic using four byte integers. The cast transforms it back to
    a two byte char type.
    Strings are just concatenations of zero or more chars. the charAt(i)
    method returns you the i-th char in a string. Have a look:String s= "AB";
    char a= 'A';
    char b= (char)(a+1);
    if (a == s.charAt(0)) System.out.println("yep");
    if (b == s.charAt(1)) System.out.println("yep");This piece of code prints "yep" two times. If you want to compare two
    Strings instead, you have to do this:String s= "AB";
    char a= 'A';
    char b= 'B';
    String t= ""+a+b;
    if (s.equals(t)) System.out.println("yep");Note the 'equals' method instead of the '==' operator. Also note that
    string t was constructed using those two chars. The above was a
    shorthand of something like this:StringBuffer sb= new StringBuffer("");
    sb.append(a);
    sb.append(b);
    String t= sb.toString();This is all handled by the compiler, for now, you can simply use the '+'
    operator if you want to append a char to a string. Note that it is not
    very efficient, but it'll do for now.
    Does this get your started?
    kind regards,
    Jos

  • Using sql bulk copy throwing exception -The given value of type String from the data source cannot be converted to type int of the specified target column

    Hi All,
    I am reading notepads files and inserting data in sql tables from the notepad-
    while performing sql bulk copy on this line it throws exception - "bulkcopy.WriteToServer(dt); -"data type related(mentioned in subject )".
    Please go through my  logic and tell me what to change to avoid this error -
    public void Main()
    Dts.TaskResult = (int)ScriptResults.Success;
    string[] filePaths = Directory.GetFiles(@"C:\Users\jainruc\Desktop\Sudhanshu\master_db\Archive\test\content_insert\");
    for (int k = 0; k < filePaths.Length; k++)
    string[] lines = System.IO.File.ReadAllLines(filePaths[k]);
    //table name needs to extract after = sign
    string[] pathArr = filePaths[0].Split('\\');
    string tablename = pathArr[9].Split('.')[0];
    DataTable dt = new DataTable(tablename);
    |
    string[] arrColumns = lines[1].Split(new char[] { '|' });
    foreach (string col in arrColumns)
    dt.Columns.Add(col);
    for (int i = 2; i < lines.Length; i++)
    string[] columnsvals = lines[i].Split(new char[] { '|' });
    DataRow dr = dt.NewRow();
    for (int j = 0; j < columnsvals.Length; j++)
    //Console.Write(columnsvals[j]);
    if (string.IsNullOrEmpty(columnsvals[j]))
    dr[j] = DBNull.Value;
    else
    dr[j] = columnsvals[j];
    dt.Rows.Add(dr);
    SqlConnection conn = new SqlConnection();
    conn.ConnectionString = "Data Source=UI3DATS009X;" + "Initial Catalog=BHI_CSP_DB;" + "User Id=sa;" + "Password=3pp$erv1ce$4";
    conn.Open();
    SqlBulkCopy bulkcopy = new SqlBulkCopy(conn);
    bulkcopy.DestinationTableName = dt.TableName;
    bulkcopy.WriteToServer(dt);
    conn.Close();
    Issue 1:-
    I am reading notepad: getting all column and values in my data table now while inserting for date and time or integer field i need to do explicit conversion how to write for specific column before bulkcopy.WriteToServer(dt);
    Issue 2:- Notepad does not contains all columns nor in specific sequence in that case i can add few column ehich i am doing now but the issue is now data table will add my columns + notepad columns and while inserting how to assign in perticular colums?
    sudhanshu sharma Do good and cast it into river :)

    Hi,
    I think you'll have to do an explicit column mapping if they are not in exact sequence in both source and destination.
    Have a look at this link:
    https://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/system.data.sqlclient.sqlbulkcopycolumnmapping(v=vs.110).aspx
    Good Luck!

  • How can I get rid of a type generated by the Data/Services return type wizard?

    Hi All,
    I have a JSON service that returns an object called "error".  The Data/Services "Configure Return Type" wizard automatically turned this into a class "Error".
    However, this caused over a hundred errors to show up inside the generated classes, "Call to a possibly undefined method Error."  That's because of lines like this:
    throw new Error(propertyName + " is not a data property of entity Agreements");
    It's trying to throw a regular "Error" object, but now that there's an "Error" class in the same package, that is taking precedence--and that Error object doesn't have a constructor with a single parameter.  At least, that's what I think is going on.
    I tried to fix it by deleting _ErrorEntityMetadata.as, _Super_Error.as, and Error.as from the valueObjects package.  I then opened the FML file and deleted the definition for the entity "Error" and every reference to the Error entity (class) in my FML file.
    I then changed my JSON service so that it returns an object called "serviceError" instead of just "error".
    But, whenever I re-run the "Configure Return Type" wizard, it regenerates the Error class, even though I've deleted it from everywhere I can find it.  That breaks my project completely!  How can I end this and get Flash Builder to *stop* generating this type!
    In the "Configure Return Type" wizard I very carefully inspected the type of every bit of data coming back to make sure none of them show up as type "Error."  And they don't (as expected, since I changed the object's name to serviceError--now the type of that object is ServiceError.
      -Josh

    I think you are facing this known issue https://bugs.adobe.com/jira/browse/FB-29770
    Please vote it.
    Thanks for the link--I just voted for it.
    To avoid this, in the last page of "Configure Return Type", edit return type name to something else (You can also edit subnodes's name too in the wizard).
    Actually, that's exactly what I saw doing; I apologize if that wasn't clear in my post.
    I closed and restarted Flash Builder, and once I did that Flash Builder stopped generating the Error class.  My guess is that the FML file, even though I had updated it (by deleting all references to the Error class), was cached in some fashion by Flash Builder, and restarting Flash Builder forced it to reread the FML file?
    Additional point of clarification: my understanding is that the FML file stores all the metadata about the services that Flash Builder has been able to figure out so far, and when you run the Configure Return Type wizard, it will regenerate *every* type in the FML file, even if that type is not mentioned anywhere in the particular return value that you are working with.
    Edited to provide additional thoughts on FML file.
