How do I create a RAID array

I want to RAID the two drives in my G4. The upper (boot disc) is 80GB and the lower is 30GB.
How do I set up the RAID (striped) to use both discs?

To set up my RAID I had 3 hard drives, one ATA and 2 SCSI. With the startup system on the ATA drive I used Disk Utility to set the two SCSI drives as a RAID 0 array. Then I used Carbon Copy Cloner to copy the system to the RAID array. I now boot from the RAID and use the ATA drive to back up the system. Without the 3rd drive you would need to boot from the installation DVD and use Disk Utility to set up the RAID array, which will erase all data on your drives. To be honest I'm not seeing a huge speed increase with the RAID array; you might be better off using one drive as a system disk and the second to store data, music, video, etc.

  • Completely messed up Raid-Array and Partition! How to delete and create new Raid-Array?

    Hello,
    I am using Ideapad U310 and tried to clean install Windows 8 and use my SSD as CACHE and Hibernate-Partition.
    So, I was able to get to the Intel CTRL+I-RAID Config Menu and there I was able to create and delete my RAIDS.
    Unfortunately I did not setup the Partition Size correctly, thus I only have a 50 GB Partition combined with my SSD and my HDD. This is what it looks like in the Intel Storage Manager:
    As you can see both, my SSD and HDD appears, but only have small partitions on the right. And Windows 8 only recognizes this small partitions, as you can see here:
    And now I am NOT able to get to the Intel RAID CTRL+I-menu before Windows starts, where I could delete this array.
    My Partitions are "empty", so I dont care if anything is delete. I just want to use raid with FULL CAPACITY of my harddrives. But how can I delete the RAID Arrays and reconfigure them correctly?
    When I change in the BIOS from RAID to AHCI I am able to install Windows 8 again with the whol CAPACITY of my SSD and HDD. But then I will not be able to use the RAID via Intel Storage Manager...
    Hopefully someone could help me.
    Thank you in advance.

I need to have all results displayed and keep building the array(display until, the end of the test)Eventually I will have to include a min max section that displays the min and max values calculated, but that should be easy with the min max function.Actually I thought this should have been easy but, I gues I can not see the forest through the trees. I didn't really have time to dig in and understand your program in depth,
    but I have a few tips for you that might things a bit easier:
    - You use local variables excessively which really complicates things. Try
    not to use them and it will make your life easier.
    - If you flowchart the design (very similar to a dataflow diagram, keep in
    mind!) you want to gather data, calculate a value from that data, store the
    calculation in an array, and loop while the time is in a certain range. So
    theres really not much need for a sequence as long as you get rid of the
    local variables (sequences also complicate things)
    - You loop again if timepassed+1 is still less than some constant. Rather
    than messing with locals it seems so much easier to use a shiftregister (if
    absolutely necessary) or in this case base it upon the number of iterations
    of the loop. In this case it looks like "time passed" is the same thing as
    the number of loop iterations, but I didn't check closely. There's an i
    terminal in your whileloop to read for the number of iterations.
    - After having simplified your design by eliminating unnecessary sequence
    and local variables, you should be able to draw out the labview diagram.
    Don't try to use the "insert into array" vis since theres no need. Each
    iteration of your loop calculates a number which goes into the next position
    of the array right? Pass your result outside the loop, and enable indexing
    on the terminal so Labview automatically generates the array for you. If
    your calculation is a function of previous data, then use a shift register
    to keep previous values around.
    I wish you luck. Post again if you have any questions. Without a more
    detailed understanding of your task at hand it's kind of hard to post actual
    code suggestions for you.

  • How do I create a RAID 0 on a P43-C51 mainboard and Windows 7

    I just upgraded my computer with a new MSI P43-C51 mainboard, Intel E8400 Dual Core and Windows 7.  I have two identical Western Digital 250GB SATA drives.  In my previous system, using Windows XP, I had the two drives configured in RAID 0.  I was unable to find the RAID drivers (and still haven't found them) for the RAID configuration so I erased the hard drives and started over new.  I have the system up and running and want to re-install Windows 7 but in RAID 0 format.  How do I do this?
    I have downloaded the RAID drivers: Intel_HECI_MB.zip from the MSI download site but I haven't been able to use the software to create a RAID 0 configuration.
    With my last board and XP, it was straight forward.  The old BIOS itself allowed the creation of a RAID 0 configuration and the board CD included the drivers for XP.  I am wondering if I overlooked something basic and my new board just doesn't support RAID.
    Any advice or help would be appreciated and thank you in advance!

    Thanks, that is what I suspected.  Now I have a good excuse to upgrade the hard drives to SATA II  !

  • Expanding Hard Drive Space and Create new RAID arrays

    I currently have a 120GB HD that came with computer. I recently installed a new 250GB hard drive to expand my hard drive space. The questions is, can I mirror my current (120GB) hard drive onto the new 250GB drive, install a second 250GB drive, and then create a software RAID with the new drive set, thus creating a 500GB software raid with my the data contained on my old (120GB) hard drive?

    Hi subterranean;
    Welcome to the Apple Discussion Forums.
    If you mirror a 120 GB drive and a 250 GB drive, the result will be equal to the smaller hence you would end up with a 120 GB mirror RAID array.
    That doesn't sound to practical to me. Exactly what do you hope to gain here. It might help you to talk about end results rather then solutions. That way we can come up with solutions that will give you the results you are after.

  • How can I create a buffer, array or pipeline that stores the last 5000 dates of a voltage measurement with PCI6036 & SCXI1104C and continously drops the last date and inserts the latest date (scanrate 200 or 2000Hz)?

    I develope a porgramm for continious monitoring. If the voltage of a channel exceeds or is lower than the upper or lower limit of tolerance the actual date must be stored and additionally the dates being stored 10sec before and after this event. Can somebody give some advice how to create the buffer to keep the dates 10s before the error event? Thank U.

    I've written you a quick array buffer vi. I'm not sure if it'll be fast enough though.. Try it and see! I've used the loop numbers in my array, but i'm sure you can feed in the dates instead.

    I would strongly recommend to replace the XOR with a not equal. Same outcome, but less nerdy. It is also much more universal! For example if you ever need to do this on an array of numerics to see which element got changed (I often do!), the XOR will no longer work as well (with integers, you'll end up with bitwise comparisons and numeric results, and with DBLs you'll end up with coercions and unpredictable results because bits are lost).

    CU Jerome

    I fanally found a walkaround trick for my problem.
    Their is no way to create an array of a certain type (dynamically dsicovered) in CLDC. But what you can do is to use the instanceof method to determine the type of your array and in a big if statement create the right array.
    Here is the final code:
        public static Object toAdjustedArray(Object source, Object addition,
                                             int colindex, int adjust) {
            int newsize = 0;
            if (source.getClass().isArray()){
                Object[] arrayIn= (Object[])source;
                newsize = arrayIn.length + adjust;
            Object arrayElement = null;
            if (addition.getClass().isArray()){
                Object[] temp = (Object[])addition;
                arrayElement = temp[0];
            else{
                arrayElement = addition;
            Object newarray = null;
            if (arrayElement == null){

            if (arrayElement instanceof org.hsqldb.Index){
                newarray = new org.hsqldb.Index[newsize];
            else {
                newarray = new Object[newsize];

    Sounds like you want to create a group. A group can have a time and string. A group is an array by definition.
    Option 1 Right mouse click the BPM object and click "Group". Right mouse click it again and create the string and time attributes.
    Option 2 Optionally, you could create another BPM Object that has the two attributes (the time and string arrays). If you go this route you could add this BPM object as an attribute of another BPM object's group. Assuming your attribute's name is "myNewAttribute" and the object your created with the time and string is in the "Model.MyNewObject" BPM Object, you'd of course want to this to the constructor of the group's constructor:
    myNewAttribute = Model.MyNewObject()Dan

  • Creating a dynamic array in Actionscript

    I am wondering how I would create a dynamic array in Acionscript, i.e. one that utilizes fields for mapping data like this:
    public var SMITH:Array = [
               {date:"29-Aug-05", close:45.87, profit:52},
               {date:"23-Aug-05", close:45.74, profit:32},
               {date:"21-Aug-05", close:45.77, profit:22},
               {date:"25-Aug-05", close:46.06, profit:51},
    but where you would just be reading in data without knowing what your data looks like.  In other words, I'd like to take something like a database table with X number of columns and have Actionsctipt map each row to an item in my array.  Something like this:
    for each row in table
    add {col1:value, col2:value, col3:value, ... colX:value} to Array
    So I won't know "date" or "close" or whatever at runtime, I'll just have X number of items for each element in the array. How would this be done?
    The reason I need this mapping feature is because I then want to map the table-like array as the data provider to charts, datagrids, etc.
    Thanks.

  • Low-end RAID - Ugh (Or how to create partition level arrays)

    Ok... I got a new mobo and my system is up and running!
    Now let me tell you how I "want" to configure my drives.
    I have two Hitachi 160 SATA drives.  I would like to create two RAID partitions.  Configured like so:
    SATA1        SATA2
    20GB     +    20GB     @ Mirrored    =  20GB C:  (For Windows, etc.)  (Safe)
    140GB   +    140GB   @ Stripped    =  280GB  D:  (For everything else )  (Fast)
    The problem is that the stupid Nvidia RAID BIOS only seems to support creating drive level arrays and not partition level!
    I only have expierence with high-end server RAID controllers and doing what I have layed out is perfectly possible.  Is this just something that "low-end" RAID controllers do not support?
    Thanks!

    Unfortunatly that is true, this controller does not support partition level arrays, only disc level.
    Be well....

  • How do you create an array without using a shell on the FP?

    I want to be able to read the status of front panel controls (value, control box selection, etc.) and save it to a file, as a "configuration" file -- then be able to load it and have all the controls set to the same states as were saved in the file. I was thinking an array would be a way to do this, as I have done that in VB. (Saving it as a text file, then reading lines back into the array when the file is read and point the control(s) values/states to the corresponding array element.
    So how do I create an array of X dimensions without using a shell on the front panel? Or can someone suggest a better way to accomplish what I am after? (Datalogging doesn't allow for saving the status by a filename, so I
    do not want to go that route.)

    Thanks so much m3nth! This definitely looks like what I was wanting... just not really knowing how to get there.
    I'm not sure I follow all the icons. Is that an array (top left with 0 constant) in the top example? And if so, that gets back to part of my original question of how to create an array without using a shell on the FP. Do I follow your diagram correctly?
    If I seem a tad green... well I am.
    I hope you understand the LabVIEW environment and icons are still very new to me.
    Also, I had a response from an NI app. engineer about this problem. He sent me a couple of VI's that he threw together approaching this by using Keys. (I still think you are pointing to the best solution.) I assume he wouldn't mind m
    e posting his reply and the VI's for the sake of a good, thorough, Roundtable discussion. So here are his comments with VI's attached:
    "I was implementing this exact functionality this morning for an application I'm working on. I only have five controls I want to save, but they are all of different data types. I simply wrote a key for each control, and read back that key on initialization. I simply passed in property node values to the save VI at the end, and passed the values out to property nodes at
    the beginning. I've attached my initialize and save VI's for you to view. If you have so many controls that this would not be feasible, you may want to look into clustering the controls and saving the cluster as a datalog file.

  • How do you create array of enums for transitions in a state machine?

    Hello,
    I am trying to build a state machine, but, I am struggling with understanding the methods for determining which state to transition to next.  In other words, I have several states, but, I don't want to go in any particular sequence.  If I have states numbered 1 through 10, I want to be able to go 1-4-2-5-6-2-6-1-10 etc. in no particular order. I want the transition to the next state  (and actions) to be determined by the streaming data, which can be random and require access to any of my 10 states at any time and in any sequence.
    I saw this picture on the "Application Design Patterns: State Machines" white paper, but, it leaves out some important details.  How does one create the structure in BLUE shown in 3C?  When I try to create this array of enums, all of them are the same. I am not able to make a list of different enum values.  In other words, when I type in "2", then, all the values in the array display as "2."
    There is a nice, simple video example of a state machine for dispensing soda for $0.15, however, this state machine moves in a single sequence, from 5 cents, to 10 cents to dispense; it does NOT illustrate how to select a state "out of order."  I need to understand how a state machine can move from "5 cents" state to dispense directly, with the addition of 10 cents to the "5 cents" state.
    Can anyone suggest a really good tutorial on how to make the selector work in a state machine?  I have been reading some of the available material on ni.com, but, I can't find a good detailed explanation of how to do it.  I remain confused.
    Or, can you just explain how they created the BLUE array in the attached picture?  Maybe I can figure it out from there.

    Hi Kathryn,
    Yes, this is EXACTLY what I want to accomplish...
    So it would basically run:
    State 1
    Read input
    Determine next state (say 3)
    State 3
    Read input
    Determine next state

    Read input
    Determine next state
    And so on...
    But, I am quite new to programming Labview state machines, and can't figure out how to even start when the sequence of states is random instead of fixed!!! I can do 1,2,3,4, like the vending machine VI example, but,  not 1,3,2,2,2,5,2,1 etc. based on external input.  Is there some simple example case I can study?  I can't believe I am inventing this for the first time.

    But, HOW do I do this???????   This is exactly the question I am asking...how is this done?  Please see the attached 3-state system....how do I hook this up????  I am totally lost here...can you help me understand how to wire this thing??  In this simpe RED/GREEN/BLUE case, my input is just the number a user would input on the front panel....  Apparently, there are two files necessary... a vi and .ctl???  What  is .ctl?
