How do I create Arrays for objects?

I want to create an array of type Cards. Is this the right way of doing it?
Card decker[];
decker = new Card[5];
     I always get the error DeckofCards: java:47: missing return statement whenever I compile this.

Look at line 47 of DeckOfCards.java and see what you've done wrong. The example you posted isn't the problem.

  • How do i create arrays more efficiently

    how do i create arrays more efficiently?... need to insert data into an array every loop iteration.  I am using the insert into array function and shift registers.  I have been told this is inefficient... and they are right because I can make the program stop and it gives me the error that labview does not have enough memory.  A coworker said to avoid shift registers and investigate property nodes... i am new at this and don't know what this is exactly.. is there a tutorial on efficent data handling.. or examples that would be usefull?

    Mark is absolutely correct.  Indexing will take a lot of memory and a lot of time when the array gets large.  Indexing is great for small arrays though. With indexing, the first loop iteration will create an array of size 1.  On the next loop, the array has to be copied, re-dimensionedcto size 2, old data copied to new array, and new data inserted at end.  You can see how this will become a monster with an array size of 10,000.  With pre-allocation, there is no re-dimensioning and no copying.  Array elements are simple replaced.  And yes you do have to know the upper limit to use pre-allocation.  Kudos to Mark for pointing out the facts.
    A bit of a clarification is needed. Folks from NI told me that LabVIEW tries to be smart when autoindexing. When they allocate the memory the initial chunk of memory it is larger than a single element. So you don't necessarily get a copy and allocation every iteration. They may have improved the optimization to preallocate the complete array if the size is already known (a constant wired to the loop count). However, they would have no way of doing this if the number of iterations is not known ahead of time.

    Hello all,
    I have a question. How can i create a custom object 0REQUID? Is it possible to create it without actvating BI content?
    Thanks in advance..

    Hi,
    If you want to create a new info object which is a copy of 0REQUID. then
    Go to > info object key figure / Chara catalogue> create new key figure / Chara --> enter 0REQUID in front of TEMPLATE and you will get all details of 0REQUID in your new key figure / chara.
    Hope this helps.

  • How to list an array of objects using struts in jsp and ActionForm

    I am using the struts ActionForm and need to know how to display an Array of objects. I am assuming it would look like this in the ActionForm:
    private AddRmvParts addRmv[];
    But I am not sure how the getter and setter in the ActionForm should look. Should it be a Collection or an Iterator?
    I am thinking I need to use an iterator in the jsp page to display it.
    I am also wondering if the AddRmvParts class I have can be the same class that gets populated by the retrieval of data from the database. This class has 10 fields that need to display on the jsp page in 1 row and then multiple rows of these 10 fields.
    Thanks.

    Most probably the easiest way to make it accessible in your page is as a collection.
    ie
    public Collection getAddRmvParts()
    You can use the <logic:iterate> or a <c:forEach>(JSTL) tag to loop through the collection
    As long as the individual items in the collection provide get/set methods you can access them with the dot syntax:
    Example using JSTL:
    <c:forEach var="addRmvPart" items="${addRmvParts}">
      <c:out value="${addRmvPart.id} ${addRmvPart.name} ${addRmvPart.description}"/>
    </c:forEach>

    Tap and hold down on an app con until it begins to "wiggle", then drag one app icon on top of another app icon to create the folder. Move as many apps as you like into that folder. When you are done, tap the home button and the apps will stop wiggling.
    You can also name the folder whatever you want to in the white text field that will pop up when the folder is created.

  • How to properly create complex OCI objects (for Annotation Text)

    I am upgrading a tool that will upload text objects to a table with a ST_ANNOTATION_TEXT field. The app is a C++ app and I need to instantiate a ST_ANNOTATION_TEXT (using OCIObjectNew??). I actually have 2 questions. First, does anyone have an example of how to accomplish this? I seem to be unable to correctly create the annotation text type in C++ to be able to append to (calling OCICollAppend). Second, since ST_ANNOTATION_TEXT is a complex type (contains an array of annotation text elements), do I need to call OCIObjectNew on not only the main ST_ANNOTATION_TEXT type but also for the ST_ANNOTATIONTEXTELEMENT_ARRAY, ST_ANNOT_TEXTELEMENT_ARRAY, and the ST_ANNOTATIONTEXTELEMENT?
    I can't seem to find in info on this so hopefully someone else has been through this.

    user3068343 wrote:
    I am still having an issue where the sub objects are still NULL.Actually I was mistaken. I must have confused getting an Object from OCIObjectNew with using one of its constructor method in a statement.
    http://download.oracle.com/docs/cd/B28359_01/appdev.111/b28395/oci18nav004.htm#sthref3438 clearly state the object will have NULL attributes, unless the OCI_ATTR_OBJECT_NEWNOTNULL flag is set on the environment handle.
    http://download.oracle.com/docs/cd/B28359_01/appdev.111/b28395/oci11obj.htm#i446308 further tells you what the default value for the object members will be.
    An older 9i doc http://download.oracle.com/docs/cd/B10501_01/appdev.920/a96594/adobjadv.htm#1008774 also warns about resetting the indicator struct member when you update a member of the object.
    user3068343 wrote:
    ++a) you allocate the object's top-level struct yourself (SDO_GEOMETRY in my case) in C+++
    Above you suggest creating the objects top-level struct myself. How do you create that top level object? I have been using OCIObjectNew on that object as well as its sub objects? Is that how you are creating the top-level object?This technique works only on binds, as objects you get back from defines are always allocated from the object cache. I create the top-level object directly on the stack... This is something I discovered worked, but is not documented, so you're probably on safer ground using OCIObjectNew instead.
    BTW, the reason I can't easily post OCI example code is that my code uses wrappers around the objects that hides most of the OCI:
    Geometry Geometry::make_point(OCIEnv* envhp, OCIError* errhp, float x, float y) {
        Geometry point_geom(envhp, errhp);
        point_geom.set_null(false);
        point_geom.gtype() = 2001;
        PointRef point = point_geom.point();
        point.set_null(false);
        point.x() = x;
        point.y() = y;
        return point_geom;
    }The above creates an 2D point-type SDO_GEOMETRY hidden inside the Geometry class, itself deriving from a GeometryRef class. The latter wraps a C++ API on top of the struct pointers for a SDO_GEOMETRY/SDO_GEOMETRY_ind, while Geometry actually composes the OTT generated value/indicator structs by value, and passes addresses to its nested structs to GeometryRef (its parent class). So GeometryRef can manipulate an object irrelevant of where it was allocated, the stack or the object cache. The Geometry class is a value class, but it's useful for binds only, and like I said uses a behavior which appears to work but is not explicitly documented.
    Unless you have nested objects by reference, nested objects are composed by value in the OTT-generated structs, so the space for all nested objects is already allocated after the first OCIObjectNew. But the members themselves are not initialized, and thus marked as null in the indicator struct.
    In the code above, my Geometry instance is fully allocated (on the stack), but fully uninitialized (the indicator is by default set to all nulls). I first set the atomic flag to non-null, then get the Ref wrapper around its nested SDOPOINT_TYPE to also set it to non-null, and fill in the x/y member (via another NumberRef wrapper, which knows about the member and the indicator for that member, and sets it as non-null when assigned to). Notice how how I return the instance by copy: My point geometry instance doesn't have a pointer-aliasing issue here, only because its two OCIColl* are null. In the general case, you can't copy my value wrappers without making a true deep copy... But I'm getting into the weeds here.
    The important point is that OCIObjectNew doesn't init the nested objects unlike what I stated earlier. Sorry for misleading you on that. • How do you create array of enums for transitions in a state machine?

    Hello,
    I am trying to build a state machine, but, I am struggling with understanding the methods for determining which state to transition to next.  In other words, I have several states, but, I don't want to go in any particular sequence.  If I have states numbered 1 through 10, I want to be able to go 1-4-2-5-6-2-6-1-10 etc. in no particular order. I want the transition to the next state  (and actions) to be determined by the streaming data, which can be random and require access to any of my 10 states at any time and in any sequence.
    I saw this picture on the "Application Design Patterns: State Machines" white paper, but, it leaves out some important details.  How does one create the structure in BLUE shown in 3C?  When I try to create this array of enums, all of them are the same. I am not able to make a list of different enum values.  In other words, when I type in "2", then, all the values in the array display as "2."
    There is a nice, simple video example of a state machine for dispensing soda for $0.15, however, this state machine moves in a single sequence, from 5 cents, to 10 cents to dispense; it does NOT illustrate how to select a state "out of order."  I need to understand how a state machine can move from "5 cents" state to dispense directly, with the addition of 10 cents to the "5 cents" state.
    Can anyone suggest a really good tutorial on how to make the selector work in a state machine?  I have been reading some of the available material on ni.com, but, I can't find a good detailed explanation of how to do it.  I remain confused.
    Or, can you just explain how they created the BLUE array in the attached picture?  Maybe I can figure it out from there.
    Thanks,
    Dave

    Hi Kathryn,
    Yes, this is EXACTLY what I want to accomplish...
    So it would basically run:
    State 1
    Read input
    Determine next state (say 3)
    State 3
    Read input
    Determine next state
    State
    Read input
    Determine next state
    And so on...
    But, I am quite new to programming Labview state machines, and can't figure out how to even start when the sequence of states is random instead of fixed!!! I can do 1,2,3,4, like the vending machine VI example, but,  not 1,3,2,2,2,5,2,1 etc. based on external input.  Is there some simple example case I can study?  I can't believe I am inventing this for the first time.
    "select the state to run"
    But, HOW do I do this???????   This is exactly the question I am asking...how is this done?  Please see the attached 3-state system....how do I hook this up????  I am totally lost here...can you help me understand how to wire this thing??  In this simpe RED/GREEN/BLUE case, my input is just the number a user would input on the front panel....  Apparently, there are two files necessary... a vi and .ctl???  What  is .ctl?

  • How to create array for activex control

    Now I am using microsoft form 2.0 combo box activex control in LabVIEW. My problem is I cannot create control array for the combobox like in visual basic. In visual basic, if we want to create control array for combo box or else, we just copy and paste onto the same form.
    For example if I copy combo1 and paste it onto the same form it will become 2 combo box i.e combo1(0) and combo1(1). So,how can I make same like that in labview using that activex?

    I'm sorry,I do not really understand. I've tried what have you told me by using automation refnum, but it is not working.

    If you use Java 5, you can avoid the need to use stubs at all. Would that be a suitable solution?
    Otherwise you can invoke sun.rmi.rmic.Main declared in tools.jar. E.g.
    java -classpath %JAVA_HOME%\lib\tools.jar sun.rmi.rmic.Main

  • How to properly create path art object, please help

    Hello there,

    As for beziers, Illustrator uses cubic beziers which are fairly straight forward (thank goodness!). Here's a lift from Wikipedia's Bezier entry:
    This image is pretty good at demonstrating how AI's bezier segments work. In the animation, the moving point has two lines sticking off it, ending with two points. If P3 was an AISegment, the left-hand blue point would be in and the right-hand point would be out. If we were to translate the state of the animation in its last frame into AI code, you'd basically have something like this:
    AISegment segment1, segment2;
    segment1.p = p0;
    segment1.in = p0;
    segment1.out = p1;
    segment2.in = p2;
    segment2.p = p3;
    segment.out = p3;
    Note that this would imply any line that continues beyond either end point isn't a smooth beizer curve (i.e. the curve is limited to between these points). That effectively makes them corner points (I think). Also, the line formed by linking in & p or out & p is the tangent to the curve at p, which I think you can make out from from the animation.
    Another way to get a feel for this is to use the pen tool to draw a line with a few segments. If you then pick the sub-select tool (white selection arrow, not black selection arrow) and select individual points on the curve, you'll see when you do that two 'anchors' jut out from each point. Those are the in & out for that point on the curve.
    Its all a little confusing because technically, a bezier segment between p & q would be p, p.out, q.in & q. (four vertices). To avoid repeating information, and keep it simple for non-beziers, AI's segments are still the vertices. So if you wanted to make the nth segment a beizer, you'd need n & n+1 from AI's path, and you'd modify two-thirds of each AISegment (p, out from n & in, p from n+1).
    I hope that helps, but if you have any further questions, feel free to ask! If you need to do anything fancy with beziers, there are some helpful utilites in AIRealBezier.h.
