How do I delete font caches in Leopard?

The old methods don't seem to work, and the old Tiger utilities need to be updated. I've got an Arial display corruption problem. Honestly, I'd just delete fugly old Helvetica rip-off Arial from my system completely, but iWeb complains when it's not there (and FontBook won't auto-activate in iWeb, it seems).

Yes, Leopard does cache fonts just as Tiger did. The location is very different than previous versions of OS X though, and many utilities (including the current version 0.5.3 of my Font Finagler application) need to be updated in order to find them in the new location.
Mars, I'd go into Font Book and in the preferences, check the box to prompt you before Font Book (the ATSServer, actually) auto-activates a font, otherwise it can silently auto-activate fonts behind your back.
Hope this helps....

  • [Solved] How to generate 32bit font cache in a 64bit multilib install?

According to fc-cache's man page, "fc-cache must be executed once per architecture to generate font information customized for that architecture." My question is, how can I do that?
Should I build a chroot and mount the font directories in the chroot and run fc-cache -s? Is there any cleaner way to do that? Btw, the lib32-fontconfig in multilib does not provide something like fc-cache32, it's only libraries.

I'll repeat it again and the last time: this is not how a multlib capable environment works. Using multilib means that atop a primary architecture (which is determined by your CPU type -- x86_64 in this case), you can execute binaries built for a different architecture (i686). Since either one uses its own instruction set and libraries, you cannot install both at the same time. That's why there is no 32bit-fontconfig in lib32-fontconfig: it there were, you'd be running a i686 OS and didn't need multilib. However, you can enable native 32bit libraries to make it possible for a binary to communicate with the OS (and CPU) using its own instructions. That's why you can execute any 32bit binary, including the redundant fc-cache that you built yourself.
In your particular case, the binary needed to create font cache is the one you already have: /usr/bin/fc-cache. If you launch a 32bit application, the cache will be created for fonts the application needs (not your entire font collection), using the very same fc-cache: this is what happens when I run wine in a 32bit chroot and this is the answer to your question:
i just don't know how they got there and how to manually create the complete font cache.
And that's it: go to the next step and run your 32bit software. You'll certainly see it's using your fonts.
What you are trying to do is neither necessary, nor technically correct, but if you want to reinvent the wheel -- good luck then.

  • Web Repository - how can i delete the cache ?

    Hi,
we are using a webrepository for searching with TREX in our intranet.
So far so good. Now we switched our Intranet from a Lotus Notes App to Opentext Websolutions,  but the URL remains the same (just IP change).
When i now reindexed the webrepository it still shows the pages it crawled when it was a Lotus Notes App.
When i click in the web repository folder on the entry with the Intranet name, it opens a new window with the new Intranet.
A clearing of the Caches under System Administration > Monitoring > Knowledge Management > Cache-Monitor
    did not change anything.
Anything else what I can do ?
    Regards,
    Kai

By default, when you type in the location bar it matches your bookmarks and your history. You can change that in preferences to match only bookmarks, only history, or not provide any matches at all. This article explains how: [https://support.mozilla.com/en-US/kb/Location%20bar%20autocomplete#os=linux&browser=fx35 Location bar autocomplete | How to | Firefox Help].
Does that let you make it work the way you want?

  • How do you delete HelveticaNue.dfont in Leopard.

I tried but it keeps popping back up no matter what I do.

And don't forget to report it as a bug to Apple. They have got to get it through their thick skulls that if they absolutely *need* fonts like that for their apps to run right/look pretty, they had better be in a separate secret folder that doesn't get reported to anywhere except Apple apps (and maybe other apps that request access specifically).
It's so stupid to deliberately fsck up designers before they even finish booting up the bloody operating system...

  • How do I delete a folder?

Just so ou all new I am a brand new Mac user.
How do I delete a folder in Leopard? I'll highlight a folder, press delete, go to file and select move to trash but it wont do anything. However if i open the folder I can delete the individual files within the folder. Its frustrating! Also every time I click on delete or move to trash it keeps asking for a password. Is there a way I can make it so it doesn't ask that each time I want to delete something?

Normal way to delete a file/folder is: select file/folder, and command+backspace = put the selected file/folder in the bin (U can ofcause just drag the file/folder to the bin with ur mouse). Then press commandshiftbackspace to empty the bin.
Command = apple key next to the space key
Shift key = key to the left with arrow (for uppercase letters)
Backspace = Same as delete key (but macbooks dont have delete, just backspace)
AND files/folders must be unlocked to b deleted. Select a file, Press command+I, in the newly opened info-panel uncheck "locked". The selected file is now unlocked and can b deleted.
BUT as stated elsewhere MAC OS might have a good reason not to allow deleting of systemfiles. You may damage you system if deleting systemfiles.
As a new Mac user, make it a habbit to ask here and in other mac forums. Mac people are generally very helpfull people, thow they might tease you a bit (they have plenty humor toooo).
And as a courtesy to those who help out - let them know if you problem was solved.
Once a mac - u never go back...
    Best regards

  • How do I delete the Ipod folder cache?? (in ilife '08)

just got an ipod and thought it would be fun to have all my pictures on it... not knowing that itunes makes a complete copy of all my pictures (25gb) in iphoto: iTunes constructs a photo database on your hard drive in order to make photo syncing fast when you add new photos in the future.
now this completely ate all my reserve hard drive space on my laptop and now I don't want pictures on my ipod...so I deleted them... but the itunes photo database still exists on the hard drive of my laptop... not giving me back the 25gb of hard drive space I really need!
someone helped me to find the following link:
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=300225
but when I search the folder ipod folder cache I get the same folder as iPhoto Library,
this is what I get: users/me/pictures/iphoto Library
when I click it to open my iphoto opens...
so how can I delete the Ipod folder cache with iphoto '08 7.1.1

    I found the answer....
go to the folder of your pictures, then either right click (or ctrl + left mouse) on iphoto library then click show pakket, then you will find the Ipod folder cache which then can be deleted...

  • How can I delete unwanted/inaccurate email addresses from the iPhone cache?

How can I delete old / unwanted / inaccurate email addresses from the "suggestions cache" that keep popping up the moment I type in the first letter in on a fresh email address box?
This is driving me mad! The London Store Apple Genius can only suggest either deleting my email account and then recreating it or totally reseting the iPhone to the original factory settings and then resynching it to my MacBook Pro to get everything back into the iPhone. However, he's not sure that this cache is not stored on the MacBook Pro during synching somewhere so I may well end up where I started! Allan Sampson answered my last "Help" topic, so I'm hoping he can beat the Apple Store Genius again!
Over to the Forum and Allan.

Hi Kelvin and everyone with the same problem.
This used to be me and the painful solution ( for PC users ) is:
    Buy a Mac!
Everything "talks" to each other and it all interfaces fine with the business world.
Once you've adjusted to the ( much better ) Mac "culture" it all becomes clear and the
backup service and advice is second to none. Not only that, everything works!
    Hope this helps......

  • How do I delete caches in Lion and which can I delete?

How do I delete caches in Lion and which ones can be deleted?

you can delete all of them, they will be recreated as soon as the app opens again.
    Clearing Local Caches
    quit all open apps
open Finder press "shift+command+G" and type ~/Library/Caches
Drag all files and folders to the trash
    Enter login password when prompted
    Reboot
your system may seem slower after reboot, this is because the caches are being rebuilt.
    Clearing Application Caches
    quit all open apps
open Finder Press "shift+command+G" and type /Library/Caches
Drag all files and folders to the trash

  • FAQ: How do I clear out my font cache to fix font style and duplicate font style issues?

We have a Script availabe for CS6 beta users who are experiencing particular font related issues.
This script will help by clearing the font cache and will test for corrupted fonts.
This will solve some of the type issues with duplicate font names and some of the other font errors.
This script is to help to find corrupted fonts. The script itself doesn’t solve the problem.
This script doesn’t solve duplicate font name, but clears out your font cach .  It it will solve some duplicate font style name issues such as the one  in the link below.
    http://forums.adobe.com/message/4306828#4306828
There is a pdf file explaining how to use the script and what it will do.
    See attached files.

Monica, I know the Normal Character Style in Illustrator must be defined. But my question is about the Normal Paragraph Style, not the Normal Character Style. As Larry just said, in most of my documents, and in my New Document Profiles, these fields in the Normal Paragraph Style are blank (undefined), so I know this is possible. In a few older documents I'm converting, the Normal Paragraph Style has a defunct font, and even though my Normal Character Style is correctly defined with the current font, it's creating some weird behavior.
Larry, it doesn't appear to be the document itself, it just appears to be not knowing what the right keystroke combo is to clear it. Just make a new file from a Document Profile where the Normal Paragraph Style does not define one of those font fields, define a font and/or font size, save, then reopen the paragraph style settings and try to clear any field that has been set. I can't clear it, I can only change the font.

  • How to delete Message cache without bouncing web server?

When a message ( FND_NEW_MESSAGES) that is used in a OA Framework page is updated, it is not reflected in the OA web page right away.
Clearing cache through Functional Administrator does not help for messages.
How to delete message cache so that a OA Framework page shows updated message text? Is there any way other than bouncing web server?
    Please let me know.
    Thanks

    Hi,
I think clearing cache through Functional Administrator should do.
You can try the below process...
Search for "_pages" (get in touch with DBA to know exact path) in $COMMON_TOP and remove using command "rm -Rf _pages". Then clear cache through Functional Administrator.
Let us know if this helps.

  • File retains font info, how can I delete it?

When I open a file, FontAgent Pro will try and auto-activate fonts that I HAD used on the file, but am no longer.
It looks like Photoshop is somehow hanging onto the old font info.
Can I delete that information from the file?
It is bothersome, because FontAgent Pro keeps turning on fonts that I don't really need.
I clear my computer font cache, but I want to clear the file font cache.

I'm not sure what the layers panel will show you, but here goes.
I just tried to open this file and FontAgentPro told me it was auto-activating the font St. Nicholas.
The font was probably used at some point in the files life, but it is not used on any of the type layers
    Here's the Layers Panel.

  • How to delete fonts & re-add them InDesign cc

Im trying to fumble though some issues my indesign trial I just loaded keeps saying "indesign is not working, windows is searching for a solution" then the only option is to close it.
I tried uninstalling, reinstalling it even updating to windows 8.1 (on my sony Tap 21). It didnt fix it.
I have found some instructions here but I dont understand how to actually find and delete fonts....I found some somewhere in a folder called PFM, (Cut and copied to my desktop) and now I forgot where to put them back! I think I was tired from trying all day to fix this. And no technical support available on weekend....
Hope someone might have a suggestion....(in laymen with some capacity to troubleshoot terms)
I am trying to follow these instruction Indesign CC crashes after startup - Windows 8
    and these https://forums.adobe.com/message/5431757#5431757#5431757
But I dont know if it means the Windows fonts, or the adobe fonts, or where to find either....(and if this is the actual problem?)
    ---doing my best!
    1. Quit InDesign
    2. Remove all fonts from the fonts folder and add a small batch of fonts back in
    3. Launch InDesign
    4. If it doesn't crash, quit InDesign and add some more fonts.
If it crashes, you know one of that batch is the problem, narrow down further.
ex. Split the fonts into halves, add half of the fonts back in > if crashes > add half of the batch that causes the crash > half of that to narrow down the list
Look out for fonts with special characters in the name. Some examples of problem fonts reported by the community are:
    Ithornët
    Typo3-Medium.ttf
    Typo3Normal.ttf
    batang.ttf
    Savoye LET
    IndyPimp
    ImpactLabel

The issue with the fonts has been fixed, as far as I know, so that 's not the problem if you are patched to version 9.2 of ID CC. You should be able to reinstall the ones you removed by right-clicking on them and choose Install.
As to what's causing the crash, I really have no idea, but it wouldn't surprise me if it's a driver issue. There is a dedicated forum monitored by adobe staff at https://forums.adobe.com/community/download_install_setup/creative_cloud_faq that may be able to offer more help. I'm going to suggest you re-post there rather than having me move this thread on the off-chance someone else here might have some thoughts as well.
