How do I disallow users from saving the data they enter into an Editable form?

Hi all,
I am working with a client who does NOT want their users to be able to save their data. In other words, when the user opens the PDF file, they can enter data into the editable fields, but they should NOT be able to save that data as part of the PDF.
Does that make sense?
My client doesn't want the user to be able to save a local copy of the PDF with any of the data entered onto the form.
Based on what I've found in my research, as of Version 11, Adobe Reader now allows users to save their data. Unfortunately, my client doesn't want that.

About the best you can do is include a JavaScript that resets the form when it is saved, so no entered data remains in the fields. The problem with this approach is JavaScript can be disabled, resulting in the form not being cleared and allowing the filled-in form to be saved.
You can address this with an additional JavaScript that runs when the form is opened that sets all of the fields from read-only to not read-only, allowing the fields to be filled-in. If JavaScript is disabled, the script won't run when the document is opened and the fields will remain read-only and therefore not fillable.
The user would be able to work around this by having JavaScript enabled when the document is opened and disabling it after filling-in the form but before saving it. Most users would not be aware of how to do this though.
If there are rules/regulations/laws in place that require something more certain, you'll have to take a different approach.

How to disable other users from changing the status

Hi,
The status entry field can be changed irrespective of ownership in Documents.
I was able to change the status on the document created by other user.
Example: The status of document was In-Work. The document owner was X. But I was able to change it to Inspection Check.

You can't prevent it, no. You could continually set the document modified flag to false, which would prevent regular 'Save', but they could always do 'Save As' -- nothing can stop that.

How to prevent multiple users from updating the same data in coherence

I have a Java Web Application and for data cache am using coherence 3.5. The same data maybe shared by multiple users which maybe in hundreds. Now how do I prevent multiple users from updating the same data in coherence i.e. is there something in coherence that will only allow one user a time to update. If one user is in a process of updating a data in coherence and some other user also tries to update then the second user should get an error.

I have a question on the same line. How can I restrict someone from updating a cache value when I a process is already working on it. I tried locking the cache key but it does not stop other process to update it , it only does not allow other process to get lock on it.

I cannot tell my servelet users that the data they entered was incorrect.

HI, I am making a web application which includes a servlet, several java classes and html pages. One of the html pages is a form with all sorts of user inputs (textfields mostly). I know how to use java to determine if the data entered is the correct type that I need for the program (eg, cost needs to be a xx.xxx double, quantity and int between 1-99 ect). What I don't understand how to do is when the user hits submit is to make tell the user somewhere in the web browser (either on the same page or a new page) that their input was incorrect and not try to save it to the program. Then give the user a chance to fix the input and try it again. I don't have the slightest idea of how to start this, but I see web pages do it all the time. I think I'm just using the wrong vocabulary in my search. Could someone please give me an example or at least steer me in the right direction in my search? thanks.

As a general rule, you do your client side validation in javascript, put error messages in red next to the textfield that has a problem, and dont let the user submit if there are any errors. When the page is submitted back to the servlet, you do the same validation again (to ensure the user didn't turn off javascirpt on their machine, or some hacker tried to get around your client side validation). Now, in terms of performing the same validations in your Servlet, it is a maybe-yes and maybe-no answer. If you have a proper service tier and/or rich domain model, then the validations should be performed there and not in the Servlet. The latter, in this context, is a client like any other. (Imagine you have Struts 2 with a ton of validations, and then all of a sudden you want to add web service support, if the validations are in the VC tier, you are in trouble). If instead your Servlets simply talk directly to DAO's an do the actual business logic, then yes, you can place validations there.
The idea is that any validations must occur as close to the actual service or business logic that is invoked. You can put them in the VC if you like, but again, this is solely for user experience and should in no way ever impact your analysis of the security of or the validations applied to a given method.

How can I stop Pages from changing the date of a document?

It seems that at some point not long ago, I set Pages to use the current date when I use a template that I made. But now, when I open an existing document that was made with that template, the date is changed to the current date. I certainly do not want that to happen. Does anyone know what I can do to stop Pages from doing this? Thanks so much for any input.

Update: Immediately after posting this question, I found the simple answer: double clicking the date and unchecking the 'automatic update' box.

Right click on the date to change its behavior and once you have fixed it resave your template.

The error message had appeared but the user still can choose to hold the PO even though there is an error.
They do not want to let the user to have a choice to save the PO once there is an error.

The only way you can stop the hold functionality is by implementing the BADI: ME_PROCESS_PO_CUST.

Solution
You can implement some customer BAdI's provided by SAP to get this functionality. Note that customer implementations of the BAdI's provided by SAP are upwardly compatible. The text that follows gives details of how to implement the customer BAdI's to accomplish this functionality.
This functionality might be provided in future releases. However, we cannot make any binding statements at this time in regard to the scope of this development and when it will become available.
The following are the steps required to implement the customer BAdI to give an error message when a user tries to create a PO referencing a held PR.
1. Go to transaction SE18. Enter the definition name as ME_PROCESS_PO_CUST. Select the push button display.
a) Choose Implementation -> Create.
b) Enter an implementation name. Choose Enter.
c) Enter a short text to describe the purpose of the implementation, then save the implementation.
d) Select the tab interface, then double-click the method "process_item".
e) Create a message to issue a message that the PR is on hold.

How do I stop users from using the standard inbuilt VPN connection in Windows

We have a UAG Portal setup to check the security of users computers etc then if it is all correct they are presented with the log in and once logged in the are connected to the corpirate network via a SSTP connection. The all works fine but the issue

I am working on a requirement where in I have to restrict the user from saving a followup up transaction if an order already exists for the same,in PCUI.I am able to display the error message in the PCUI screen but unable to restrict the user from saving the transaction.
I have implemented the CRM_COPY_BADI ,copy method to check the item copy and populating the message from there...The requirement is fulfilled in GUI by giving a abandon message which restricts the user from saving the transaction.but in PCUI the abandon message is not working..So is there any way to deactivate the save button for a particular transaction in PCUI and this is to be done from within the CRM_COPY_BADI..

How to prevent a portal user from using the BEx Analyzer ?

we have different type of users : most users may use the portal as well
as the analyzer ;
we have one special user with extended authorizations : this user
should use the portal , where he has a limited set of queries to run
with hardcoded filters ==> this user should not be able to use the
analyzer however, since he then would be able to call all other queries
by using the find function ;
how can we make sure this user cannot use the analyzer , using SAP
authorizations ?

Hi,
if I remove the complete S_RFC authorization for the user then the BEx Analyzer cannot connect anymore to the BW system, but neither can the user run reports from the portal : it needs the S_RFC with 'SYST'.
If I only remove the RRMX from the S_TCODE and from the S_RFC, it does not prevent the user from starting the BEx Analyzer and connecting to the BW system. It only stops the user if he would start the RRMX transaction from within an SAPGUI session.
Perhaps there should be a value in the S_RFC that allows connections from the portal but not from the BEx Analyzer .... ?

Someone in our company needs to upload a pdf to our sharepoint intranet site for internal-only use. How can I prevent users from downloading it and emailing it externally?
I mean, a user could screenshot it I guess, but I need to give management a due diligence answer.

You would need to look into a reverse proxy/firewall that had the ability to block access based on content. This isn't something you can accomplish out of the box with SharePoint (even with AD RMS).
