How do I find the copied itunes library on my computer?

I'm trying to transfer my itunes library to an exteral hard drive, I followed the instructions on this page and I think I copied my library but not only do I not understand how to actually transfer it to my external hard drive but now I think I have two copies of my library on my computer and want to find it so I don't use up any more space. The instructions said I should delete the original but I don't want to delete anything until I know which is the original. Help!

Transferring/Copying iTunes library from desktop computer to laptop

What is the best way to move my current desktop iTunes library to my laptop?
I have the latest version of iTunes on the laptop, which has moved music from it to iTunes. There are about 50 songs on this laptop library, but on my desktop computer there is much more.
I want to make sure that I add the current iTunes library contents to the laptop library. Is there a simple solution to this question?

How to find the current iTunes Library

Hello,
somehow, opening iTunes the last time I came to a previous iTunes Library and do not find the current one, where much more songs and downloads are in.
Searching in Windows also did not help. How could I get back to the current one, as everytime opening iTunes the previous shows up.
Does anybody know?

The only way is to search in Windows and look at the Size & Date Modified fields.
Are you searching ALL your hard drives, even external ones?
Are your Windows Explorer folder options set to hide system folders? Hide file extensions? You will need to uncheck both those options for the search to be useful.

How can I find out which iTunes library my computer is using?

I have a desktop Mac Mini at home that my wife uses and a MacBook Pro that I use at home and in the office. I wanted to be able to access all the music we have on both machines from both machines, even when I am out and about and have no network connection for my MacBook Pro. So, I uploaded all the music we had on iTunes to Dropbox, and this now syncs on both computers. So, whenever either of us adds music to iTunes, the songs are saved on both machines within the Music folder in Dropbox, which syncs in real time across both computers. So far so good.
However, what I am finding is that, when either of us adds new music to our respective iTunes, it only shows on the computer on which it's been added. So, within a matter of weeks, our computers no longer show the same music in our respective iTunes windows, even though the music is present on both machines in the synchronised Dropbox folder.
I realised that the computers must start using different iTunes library to each other when new songs are added to either machine. So, I figured that, when we add music to one of the computers, if I pointed iTunes on the computer that has the less up-to-date music to the latest library that is being used by the computer with the more up-to-date music, this would ensure that both machines showed the same music in their repective iTunes windows. The problem is that I cannot work out which iTunes library is being used by the computer with the more up-to-date music on it. I know how to choose a different library when I open iTunes (hold down alt) but that doesn't help, because I all I want to do is to FIND OUT WHICH LIBRARY IS BEING USED BY ITUNES ON THE COMPUTER WITH THE MORE UP-TO-DATE MUSIC. I simply can't find a way of getting iTunes to show me which library it is using, although this must be the simplest thing in the world. An additional issue is that I want to playlists we have created to appear on both machines - will that be the case if I point the less up-to-date iTunes (on my wife's Mac Mini) to the library of the more up-to-date iTunes (on my MacBook Pro), since my computer with the more up-to-date iTunes shows all the playlists, whereas my wife's doesn't?
So, can anyone help? Plus if anyone knows of any software that can automatically ensure that two different Macs both use the same and most up-to-date iTunes library and therefore always show the lastest music collection, whichever machine the music has been added to, that would be fantastic. You could have all the computers point to the same library but it can't be opened by more than one at any time.
No answer for knowing which library is in use other than selecting it at startup. This question gets asked here occasionally but I don't think it is a high-demand feature since most people have just one library. I guess you could put in an empty playlist with the library name so you have an identifier.

I forgot to mention that she has a PC at her house that she also syncs to. Would this cause a problem. I am already getting that pop up saying that the iPod is synced to another library (even though she is signed in with her Apple ID to iTunes) and gives the pop up to Cancel, Erase & Sync, or Transfer Purchases. My question arose because she clicked on "Erase & Sync" by mistake when she plugged the iPod to her PC the first time. When the iPod was purchased and setup, it was synced to my PC first. When she went home, she hooked it up to her PC and then she erased it by accident. I was able to restore all the missing stuff yesterday using my PC. However, even after doing that it still told me the next time I hooked it up last night that the iPod was currently synced with a different library. Hopefully, you can help me understand all this. She wants to sync her iPod and also backup her iPod at both places. Both PCs have been authorised. Thanks

I bought music for the first time from Itunes and now that is the only music in my library. When I connect my Ipod Nano to the computer, it says it is synced to another Itunes library, but I don't know where that is?? I want all my music back in 1 library. Thanks for you reply Carolyn, but how can I get back to the original library? The first music I added all I remember doing was plugging the Ipod in and a blank library opening, then dragging or copying music from my CD's into the folder. But when I bought music from Itunes the original 300 are gone and the 40 I bought from Itunes is the only music there. So I am thinking since the 2 can't be merged if I can get back to the original library with the 300 songs I can copy the 40 songs I bought from Itunes and add them that way. But, how do I get back into the original library? Thanks

All I have done so far is transfer what is on my iphone. I have a lot of music and books etc in my old libreary and do not want to lose any of it.

So I recently scanned my ipod classic for any problems and it decided to delete a whole bunch of my music.
It also said something about putting the corrupted files in a "Found" Folder which i cannot find.

Do you have access to an external hard drive that you were using for your computer's backup with your PC which has enough storage capacity for your entire iTunes library?
If so, using the external hard drive would be a good way to do this. You would transfer your iTunes named folder in your My Music folder on your PC followed by transferring the iTunes named folder from the external hard drive to the Music folder on your Mac - with iTunes quit when doing so. This will transfer all music, videos, 3rd party apps, playlists, etc. from your PC to your Mac.
If most of your iTunes library includes music purchased from the iTunes store, iTunes includes an option to transfer iTunes content that was purchased from the iTunes store from an iPod or iPhone, but this is for iTunes content that was purchased from the iTunes store only.
First you need to authorize your new MacBook with your iTunes account with iTunes if you haven't already done so.
With your iPhone connected to iTunes and without syncing, at the iTunes menu bar go to File and select Transfer Purchases From - the name of your iPhone.
If all 3rd party apps do not transfer from your iPhone to your iTunes library on your Mac, you can re-download purchased apps with iTunes on your MacBook and you won't be charged again as long as you use the same iTunes account that was used to purchase the 3rd party apps.

Okay, I am trying to send a whole library of roughly 800 songs using Aol Instant Messenger. I have tried many different ways, sending the ITL file, the itunes 4 music library. When I tried these and replaced the library with it, it worked, but didn't know the original locations of the songs. the whole itunes folder would of taken too long. The files that you are sending are only database files that tell Itunes where the songs are and your ratings playcounts etc - that is why on the 2nd computer it cannot find the song files.
You need to actually send the song files themselves which as you all ready have pointed out are probably too big to do via AIM.
