How do I fix these sporadic display crashes aka the blocks of doom... ?

*It happened about 3 weeks ago. I was on the Quickitime movie trailer site, watching the trailer for Batman. Then something funny (or not so funny as it turns out) happened. Random horizontal blocks started to appear on the screen, fragmenting the whole display over the course of a minute.*
*I turned the power off with the power button (I couldn't see enough to reboot from the menu). Counted to 100 and powered up. To my initial horror the grey (and for my American friends 'gray' ) apple starting up splash was still scrambling with scary blocks. However, when it went to the blue screen start up screen, my MacBook Pro clicked and whirred a bit and the fault seemed to repair itself.*
*It has done this again a couple of times more since, on average once a week over a 5 working day period. There is no pattern to this occurring, it is completely random and can hit at any time. There doesn't seem to be any permanent damage done, apart fro the fact that the crash and subsequent reboot forces me to lose all the stuff I am working on since the last save, which is an obvious pain in the hard drive.*
*Bad Mac!*

I am taking it today to show it to a 'Mac Genius' (I think it's one of those awfully nice college students in the fancy tees-shirts, kind of like shop assistants) Apparently they all hang round their own little bar down there (definitely college students). They will look at it for FREE for 15 minuets, and then I have to start tucking crinkled notes of currency into their clothes.

At the top of the window where your fonts appear after the validation run, there's a drop-down (defaulted to 'all')
Select warnings and errors from that list and the resultant list in the main window should tell you what the problem is. The most common is duplicated fonts.
You can use 'resolve duplicates' in Font book, but it can be a bit hit and miss which ones it deactivates.

Did you check the long verticle silver button on the left side of the phone? It is above the + & - Keys. If it is pushed down, you will have no volume. THis is a key to quickly shut off the volume if you forgot to trun it down during a meeting, funeral, etc. If that is okay, go into settings and see if volume is turned on. "vibrate" is no longer an option by itsself.

I do not know what any of these do or how to fix them. I have run multiple disk permission repairs & disk repairs. The startup & system extension errors continue to come up.
I even followed the directions to move HP IO & HP Trap Monitor to the trash, run disk permissions repair, put back in folder, then restart - and still am getting error message.

The crash is in organizer.My hard drive size could be an issue. I have only 11.8GB remaining out of a total of 139GB. Elements has stopped running and I don't have access to my photos. Crash took place while I was uploading pics to smugmug

By doing stuff.
There are 9 different versions of iPhoto and they run on 9 different versions of the Operating System. The tricks and tips for dealing with issues vary depending on the version of iPhoto and the version of the OS. So to get help you need to give as much information as you can. Include things like:
- What version of iPhoto.
- What version of the Operating System.
- Details. As full a description of the problem as you can. For example, if you have a problem with exporting, then explain by describing how you are trying to export, and so on.
- History: Is this going on long? Has anything been installed or deleted? - Are there error messages?
- What steps have you tried already to solve the issue.
- Anything unusual about your set up? Or how you use iPhoto?
Anything else you can think of that might help someone understand the problem you have.

Without more info like version of photoshop or photoshop elements, operating system, color mode of the image, etc, i'd say to check the Auto Color Correction Options>Target Colors.
Make an Levels adjustment layer and in photoshop select Auto Options or in Photoshop Elements Alt or Option click on the Auto button
The default colors are

If you go to the Now Playing screen, the Repeat control is the the arrowed racetrack icon on the left side right below the scrubber bar. Tap the icon to change. It is white when Repeat is off.

Questions:
1. What version of the Mac OS are you running (Apple > About this Mac)?
2. What version of the iOS are you running (Settings > About)?
3. Do you backup your computer (http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1427)?
--- If you don't regularly backup your computer, now is the time to start.
4. Do you backup your iPhone (http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1766)?
Check the calendar list on the left hand side of iCal. Is it that the individual events are duplicated or is it just that you have the same calendar listed more than once? If its that you have more than 1 copy of each calendar, you can delete one of the duplicate calendars to eliminate the duplicates.
If you find that it is the individual events that are duplicated then there are 2 options:
1. Restore your computer iCal database or iPhone from a backup made before the duplication occurred.
2. Use a duplication removal program (or do it by hand) to remove the duplicates: http://www.nhoj.co.uk/icaldupedeleter/
If you have a backup made before the duplication occurred, reply back with what kind of backup you have and I'll suggest how to recover the calendars.
To avoid this issue in the future:
Keep regular backups. They are your best defense against data anomalies which are a fact of life in computers (although hopefully rare).
Keep your computer and iPhone software fully up to date (Apple > Software Update / Settings > General > Software Update).
Make sure the date and time on your computer and iPhone are correct before you sync the two devices.
Make sure the cable connections between the two is solid and that the cable shows no signs of physical damage.

If resetting the camera app doesn't work you can try restoring your iPhone's software. The entire process takes about an hour to an hour and a half. Make sure you do a backup. Make sure you do a backup.

I had the same issue for several days (and several reboots). During that time I found I could print the spread sheet as a pdf, though I couldn't see it except cell by cell.
Suddenly the problem disappeared. I never did know why the problem appeared nor why it disappeared.
In the interim I ran the disk utility several times and repaired permissions twice. That may have helped, but I don't know.
