How do I get the restore previous session

1st how do I get the history menu to have functioning "Restore previous session" and "Recently Closed Tabs" and "Recently Closed Windows" options? They are not usually in black but gray, not useable.
2nd, how do I get to articles which explain things like the history menu and how to use it without asking a question through this process?

How do I make firefox restore previous session every time it crashes?

I really like the "restore previous session" window that shows up sometimes when firefox crashes, being able to pick and choose which tabs and windows to reopen. My question is are there any add-ons or ways of making it so this happens every time I have to reopen firefox? Right now it only does it occasionally, other times it automatically reopens every tab loading them as I go which makes the process of finding which windows I want and getting back up to speed much lengthier. This is quite an annoyance because you'd think after force quiting firefox would default to this every time, but usually it reopens every tab and I have to try and purposely crash the browser hoping I'll get the "restore previous session" window. Any help with this would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Yes, you can. Firefox will try to automatically restore once. If that fails, then it gives you the screen to choose. To prevent automatic restoration and always go straight to that windows/tabs list, change a setting here:
(1) In a new tab, type or paste '''about:config''' in the address bar and press Enter. Click the button promising to be careful.
(2) In the search box in that tab, type or paste '''sessions''' and pause while the list is filtered
(3) Double-click '''browser.sessionstore.max_resumed_crashes''' and change the 1 to a 0 (a zero) and OK that.
(4) You can close this tab now.
Hopefully you won't need to test it any time soon -- if you are crashing a lot, we should try to figure out how to stop that.

The restore previous session button is not working on Firefox on any of my three machines. How can I fix this?

I have a desktop at work, and a desktop and laptop at home and just recently the "restore previous session" button that comes up when I use the desktop icon to start a Firefox Web browser session does not work. It is there and I click it but nothing happens. I have Windows 7 on the two computers at home and thought that is what I had on this computer at work, but it may be Vista. It's not XP.

You'll want to close Firefox and then '''delete''' that file (don't worry, Firefox will create a new one, and you won't even lose the open tabs)
Start Firefox again and the button should work!

Read another post in the forum about this and it appears this app also installs a profile with a proxy service that you will have to try and delete as well. Check that out.

Consider using a separate password protected Operating System account, if possible, that may help.

I think there is a serious risk that your session history will be cleared, too. However, I haven't tested it yet. If you want to preserve a copy of your session history files while you experiment, you can back them up as follows:
Open your current Firefox settings (AKA Firefox profile) folder using either
* "3-bar" menu button > "?" button > Troubleshooting Information
* (menu bar) Help > Troubleshooting Information
* type or paste about:support in the address bar and press Enter
In the first table on the page, click the "Show Folder" button. This should launch a list of your settings files.
Look for a folder named '''sessionstore-backups''' and copy it in its entirely to a safe location such as your Documents folder.
You also should find a file named sessionstore.js which contains your current session windows and tabs. You could back that one up, too, but the recovery.js file in the sessionstore-backups folder should be identical or virtually identical (it may lag a little, but should be updated to be the same fairly quickly).

Hey Larry, I had the same problem when I down loaded Fire Fox 4.0! Go to the upper left corner of the screen. Is there a small red box with an arrow that says Fire Fox? Left click there and a new menu drops down. Go to Options DO NOT CLICK!, scroll over to Menu Bar and left click on it and the red box goes away and leaves all the options your looking for! To remove it back to the other way, left click on Views, scroll down to Toolbars, DO NOT CLICK!, scroll over to Menu Bar and click on that and it will revert to the original set, with red Fire Fox bar in corner again! My FF crashes many a times and the last opened tabs are not restored. The Restore Previous Session under the history tab is greyed out and the the Session restore button on about:home is not there and im using FF 8.0.1

How do I disable the "restore last session" feature in safari 5

Hei folks,
I recently updated to OSX Lion and my Safari Version is Version 5.1 (7534.48.3).
Since this update when I close (cmd+q) Safari with one or more tabs open and start safari again the tabs are restored (opended automatically). This behaviour is very wrong to me as I almost never need the "old" tabs and actually want to instantly type the adress I want to go to which is only possible on a blank page.
How can I disable this behaviour/feature?
