System Preference > Sound > Output > Internal Speakers
Make sure Mute is not enabled.
If you see red light in the headphone port, plug the headphone
in and out of the port 5 or 6 to flip the microswitch inside.
Sound output may be stuck in the digital mode.

There must be a way to get it to work... I mean it works fine in Mac OS X so there has to be a way to tweak it to work in Windows... right?
I really like using my iPhone headset, it's a bummer it doesn't work

How do i get my sound to come back on?
It won't play back any sound even though i press play on itunes, and another music player.
Even after I restarted the computer.

Hopefully one of these steps should solve the problem.
    1. System Preference > Sound > Output > Internal Speakers
Make sure Mute is not enabled.
    2. Remove the headphone.
If you see red light in the headphone port, plug the headphone
in and out of the port 5 or 6 times to flip the microswitch inside.

    5. Applications > Utilities > Audio MIDI Setup
        Audio Devices window
        Side Bar

  • How do I get my sound to work again?

My sound cut out on me. Everything was working really slowly and I had to restart a couple times and now everything is working at normal speed, yet my sound still doesn't work. Nothing will play out of the speakers or headphones, and when I press any of the sound keys a circle with a slash in it shows up and I haven't been able to figure out what exactly caused and it how to fix it.

There are many possible causes for this issue. Take each of the following steps that you haven't already tried.
    1. Start with the steps recommended in this support article. Don't skip any of the steps. It's the starting point for further efforts to solve the problem.
    2. Run Software Update and make sure you have a fully up-to-date installation of OS X.
    3. If you've installed an application called "Memory Clean" or any other third-party software that is supposed to "clean" or "purge" memory automatically, remove it according to the developer's instructions and restart. You should do that even if the software is not causing the problem, because it's useless.
    4. If you've installed a software equalizer called "Boom" or anything similar, update or delete it and restart.
    5. If an AirPlay device is selected for sound output from iTunes (or from other applications via third-party software such as "Airfoil"), deselect it.
    6. Launch the application "Audio MIDI Setup" by entering the first few letters of its name in a Spotlight search and selecting it in the results (it should be at the top.) Select the Output tab. If the Mute boxes are checked, uncheck them. Move the Volume sliders all the way to the right.
    7. If a red light is coming from the audio-out port, the internal switch is stuck in the position for digital output. You may be able to free it by inserting and removing a mini-stereo jack of the proper size. Inserting any kind of tool in the port may cause damage that won't be covered by your warranty.
If there's no red light, the switch may still be stuck in the headphone position. Try to free it the same way.
    8. Disconnect all wired peripherals except keyboard and mouse, if applicable. If more than one display is connected, disconnect all extra ones. Restart and test.
    9. If you have a MacBook Air, turn off Bluetooth and restart.
    10. Start up in safe mode. Don't log in; just restart as usual when the login screen appears. When you do, make sure the words "Safe Boot" do not appear in the login screen. If they do, the system is still in safe mode and sound won't work.
    11. Reset the NVRAM.
    12. Reset the SMC.
    13. Reinstall OS X after backing up all data.
    14. Make a "Genius" appointment at an Apple Store.

  • How can I get surround sound to work?

I have a new TouchSmart 520z.  I believe it has an integrated soundcard.  When I purchased it I was told that surround sound speakers would work.  I purchased the Logitech 5.1 speaker system.  I don't have any color coded RCA receptacles on the system.  I have a mic and earphone receptacle on the left side and a sub and another receptacle just below it with a design on the rear that I am not sure of.  I placed the green RCA plug in the bottom receptacle on the back and get sound out of the two front speakers and subwoofer.  Don't know where to plug in the center and rear speaker plugs.  I have a feeling that this system does not support surround sound.  I configured my settings to surround sound 5.1.  Need some help.  Thanks.

    Did some tests...
If I change the default audio device to the integrated audio device in the mainboard I get the same. Changing the bitrate in itunes or in the windows settings does not help either...
    Anyone has a similar problem?
Or anyone has a similar setup and actually gets surround sound from itunes?
I rather keep renting and buying films through itunes and not switch to some other shop...

Are you asking a question or making a statement?
On the left hand side of the device, is the mute switch on????  Do  you see a red dot?  If so, the device is on mute, turn the volume on.

  • I can't get the sound to work on my videos

I have a couple of videos in my itunes and I am able to convert them so that they appear on my ipod but there is no sound while the video plays
Fifth Generation U2 ipod Video   Windows XP

    Jeff,
Unless I'm misunderstanding something technical, I think we're talking about two different things. Yes, I understand your point about copying DVD's, copy protection, etc. But the main point of this, and other, threads is not about breaking copy protection; it's about successfully converting video to put it on iPod, and retaining the audio. I have a bunch of short, non-copy protected, non-copyrighted video clips on my computer that the Conversion tool in iTunes simply won't convert with audio. That's where the "muxed" thing comes into play, or whatever it is. My clips vary: some are .mpg, some are .avi, whatever. I don't think iTunes successfully converted a single one of them. I ended up downloading some third party software that I learned about in these discussion forums.
That's my point. Whatever it is that these third party programs do, why can't Apple make iTunes do it?
Am I missing something? Are what these programs doing tied into breaking copy protection? Is there some link between "de-muxing" (is that right?) and removing copy protection? I plead ignorance on this one.

  • How do I get my iChat to work with Audio/Video?

I have tried to read through the other posts on this topic to figure out what to do. I am quickly in over my head with changing configurations on ports and routers. It should not be this difficult. Until I bought this computer less than a week ago, I had used Windows machines which I would be able to figure out fairly quickly. I thought Apples were supposed to be easier to use? I have been working on this issue for two days now. I even called Apple twice. The first guy said what I was asking was beyond his knowledge, and I should log into this discussion board for an answer to my question. I told him I could have done that without paying for both Apple and Pro Care.
The second guy worked with me at least and put me on hold several times to research. He had me try different things before telling me that I must not have enough bandwith on my ISP. He told me to call my ISP provider and ask them what the bandwith was. When I asked him what bandwith I needed to iChat A/V, he said he could not tell me what it was. If it is a bandwith issue, shouldn't the screen say so? Instead it tells me that I failed to accept the invitation that I initiated, or failed to accept the invitation after I pressed the accept button.
I know the MBPs are new, and there will be growing pains, but I expected a little more assistence from Apple. I am working dilligently to learn how to use my new Mac and am getting completly frustrated with this A/V Chat problem. I even downloaded AIM on my MBP to see if that fixed the problem. The same thing happens. Either I initiate the video chat and the other person accepts, which causes my screen to say that I failed to accept the invitation. Or they initiate the invitation and once I accept my screen freezes saying that I failed to accept the invitation.
From the looks of the other posts, this does not seem to be an Intel chip issue. Since AIM did not work either, it must not be an iChat issue.
Thank you in advance for your help.

I assume you have an iPad.
It would help if you give some information in your profile or your post about equipment, operating systemversion and so on.
If you are new to iPad:
Go to Settings, choose the "general" line in the left panel, then you will see the "Use side switch to:" possibilities.
    Check the side Switch position.
Underneath the General is the Sounds settings, iy look there look at the most upper setting at the right.

+I've tried some suggestions online, but most suggest that the problem is with available media--I don't think that's my problem. Any suggestions?+
    You don't have enough media.

  • How can I get my ipod to work with itunes?

When I connect my ipod classic into my new computer it seems that itunes does not recognize it. How can I get my ipod to work with itunes? I'm afraid to disconnect my ipod because the display is saying Do Not Disconnect.

    1. Update iTunes to the latest version. Plug in your iPod. If iTunes still can't recognize it, then in iTunes in the top left corner click help> run diagnostics. On the box that comes up, check the last two things. Click next and it should identify your iPod.
    2. Click on your windows start menu. Type in "services". Click on it and when it pops up, on the bottom of it click on "standard". Now Scroll down to find "Apple Mobile Device" Right click it when you see it and click on "Start". When it has started, close iTunes and replug in your iPod and it should show up.
    3. Check the USB cable
4 Verify that Apple Mobile Device Support is installed
    5. Restart the Apple Mobile Device Service and verify that the Apple Mobile Device USB Driver is installed.
    6. If you just want to add some photos, songs and movies from computer to your devices, you can use an iTunes alternative to do the job
    7. Check for third-party software conflicts.
