How do i hide invisible files?

I have .DS_Store, an invisible file now on my screen. It's an invisible file! How do I make it go away and be invisible again?

defaults write com.apple.finder AppleShowAllFiles 0; killall Finder

  • How can I hide hidden files again?

Hi I just bought a new macbook pro with maverick 10.9.3 I believe and made my hidden files viewable to extract certain data. But now I want to hide the files again how do I go about doing that?
    thanks!

You could try it in Terminal:
    defaults write com.apple.finder AppleShowAllFiles FALSE
    Then:
    killall Finder

  • How to lock hide a file

Sorry for what must be a stupid question but I seem to be going round in circles with this.
How to I make a file/photo restricted for viewing or hide it on my mac?

You can restrict it by putting it into an encrypted disk image. This is like a 'drive' but it is a file container to which you can add files. Normally they are not encrypted, but  they can be.

  • How to show/hide invisible characters in Mac Keynote 6?

How can I show/hide the invisible characters in Mac Keynote 6?

we call them non printing characters
this cant be displayed in Keynote, Keynote is a video based presentation application and does not have many typographic tools.
    The sister application to Keynote is Pages which can show non printing characters so you should use that;
    View > show > invisibles

  • How do I make invisible files in iTunes visible on mp3?

Some of my tracks in iTunes "cannot be replaced because they are invisible" so I cannot transfer them from iTunes to the mp3.  Any solution to this?

IS this message coming from iTunes or the mp3 player your using? Doesn't sound like iTunes...
You didn't say what player you're trying to load up with music, or how you're doing it, but most MP3 players can play only mp3-formatted files. iTunes can hold tracks in other formats, so that might be your issue.

  • How do I hide the file names/path names of embedded images in a PDF document?

I created a PDF document from a Word document, and the problem is that the PDF document shows the file names and path names for all of the embedded images in the PDF document. I don't want that information displayed. I don't want to send the PDF out to clients and have them read the names I've assigned to those images, plus it looks messy. And I've lost many of the original image files so they only exist in the Word document, thus I can't go back and rename them. I searched the internet for an answer but I couldn't find one anywhere.

When you create a tagged (accessible) PDF file from Word, placed bitmap images will use their filename as the "ALT text" if you don't define something else for the text to say, because an image without any ALT text is a failure against the accessibility standards. You can't change that default action, so you should put your own meaningful text into the ALT field for each image - which is what you should be doing anyway if the PDF is standards-compliant.
You can can set the text in Word, but it depends on your version as to where the dialogs are - Google for it - or you can change/delete it in Acrobat using the tags navigation pane on the left side of the window (right-click the sidebar if it's not visible). Drill down through the tags structure to find the "<Figure>" tag you want to change, right-click and choose Properties, then put something in the "Alternative text" field. This process isn't something you can easily automate, but if you don't need tags at all, you can save without tags (or print to PDF).

  • How can I hide my flv files?

    hello,
I made a flash project that I published as an exe file. this project calls a number of external flv files. Now, I want to hide these files, because it's my own work and I don't want anyone to steal it, how can I hide these files?
my project will be published on a cd.
    thank you for your help

Well the best feature of having all the content on the CD is that it's all self contained, no need to go someplace else (like the Internet) to get content. But it certainly is possible to store the .flv files on a Web server and have Flash content on the CD go to the Internet to download and play the videos. Little more complex to get it all working AND then the user must have an Internet connection available or they can't see the videos. But even then... if it's on the Internet it can be copied.
Or look into sone type of encryption program:
    http://www.truecrypt.org/
    http://www.axantum.com/axcrypt/
but I'm not sure that you can use the content without first decrypting the data.
As for watermarking and adding a copyright notice, this is normally done when the video is first being edited in whatever software is used to capture and edit the original video file. Once the file is already created, there are software programs to add the mark... something like this:

    Best of luck!

  • How to see invisible files

How do you see invisible files on the romote side of the site
window? I've got some .htaccess files, which are supposedly
invisible on the Mac system, though they're visible on my local
site window. If I upload them, I can see them until I quit
Dreamweaver, then I can't see them. These files control access to a
site and if I can't see them I can['t delete them. So now I'm
    locked out of my site.

What DW version are you using?

  • Hide Sidecar files appearing after upgrade?

How do you hide Sidecar files NOW appearing in NEF photo folder on desktop after Yosemite upgrade? In Adobe Bridge, you have option to hide sidecar files. Can't find a way to hide them from view in OS Finder folders.

    Oh, good idea!
Changing it in explorer is forcing a rewrite of the tags, enough so that itunes can now recognize them.
Did you ever have a window 7 beta (build 7000) looking at those files? That version had some problems that affected MP3s.
It sounds similar to a wide-spread issue where itunes will not read tags that other programs will read.
Your situation has a different twist, in that they were all originally ripped with itunes.
Anyhoo....they have somehow gotten corrupted, either from itunes or something else. I don't know what you have on your PC and what is common among those 700 songs that got hit.
I can't think of anything at the moment that will rewrite all the tags quickly, except for MP3 validator - but I wouldn't want to use that on my library, because it takes the tags back to v1 and loses artwork.

  • Finding invisible files

I had Imagemagick working perfectly fine but I got my Mac unusable so I reinstalled Leopard and did all updates and put back my user folder from time machine. When I try:
$ montage *.jpg -tile 8x4 -mode Concatenate a.gif
    I get:
    -bash: montage: command not found
I think I remember I put something in a .bashrsc
Can I find an invisible file in Time Machine?
If not, what should I do for my old magick to purr again?

I have absolutely no idea about your imagemagick problem but it sounds like either you didn't install it properly or didn't modify your PATH variable.
searching for invisible files via time machine interface does not work (it's a known bug) but if you know exactly which file it is you can make invisible files visible in Finder using the following terminal command
defaults write com.apple.finder AppleShowAllFiles TRUE; killall Finder
then open the TM drive in Finder (not using Time machine) and restore your .bashrc file. also keep in mind that ~/.bashrc is only executed when you start bash as a nonlogin shell. so if you simply open a terminal window then ~/.bashrc is NOT executed. you might also want to modify ~/.bash_profile. Consult man bash for which files bash loads in which situations.
P.S. to hide invisible files from Finder run
defaults write com.apple.finder AppleShowAllFiles FALSE; killall Finder

  • Moving an invisible file

I've got an invisible file in a folder which I have to move to a different location but I don't know how, I don't even know how to select the invisible file. I know its there, I just can't work out how to select it and then move it. Any suggestions?
    Thanks, Gillan

Most invisible files you should never touch as they are important pieces of the operating system architecture which are hidden from the average user so they don't make the system inoperable. If you are sure this is a file you created that you need to move, you can use:

    to move it.

  • How to delete invisible file created by iPhoto

I use MacBook and keep my iPhoto library on external hard drive. External disk got disconnected accidentally and I was requested to import the library again.
I imported library from my external drive but the file created by iPhoto is not visible and I cannot find it either in folder Pictures or using Spotlight. However, I can see that available space on my MacBook hard drive is reduced for 10GB, which is actually the size of my iPhoto library.
Any suggestion how to find invisible file created by iPhoto and delete it from the hard disk on my computer? Many thanks for your help.
    Haris
    MacBook   Mac OS X (10.4.7)

Do a Spotlight search for "Library6.iPhoto" on your boot drive and that will tell you where the iPhoto LIbrary is hiding.
    Do you Twango?
TIP: For insurance against the iPhoto database corruption that many users have experienced I recommend making a backup copy of the Library6.iPhoto database file and keep it current. If problems crop up where iPhoto suddenly can't see any photos or thinks there are no photos in the library, replacing the working Library6.iPhoto file with the backup will often get the library back. By keeping it current I mean backup after each import and/or any serious editing or work on books, slideshows, calendars, cards, etc. That insures that if a problem pops up and you do need to replace the database file, you'll retain all those efforts. It doesn't take long to make the backup and it's good insurance.
I've written an Automator workflow application (requires Tiger), iPhoto dB File Backup, that will copy the selected Library6.iPhoto file from your iPhoto Library folder to the Pictures folder, replacing any previous version of it. You can download it at Toad's Cellar. Be sure to read the Read Me pdf file.

  • How can i hide a pages file from other users

How can I hide a pages file so other users can't open or see it?

My own tip is to save this kind of doc in an encrypted disk image (the .dmg items)
Such item resemble to every downloaded installer so it doesn' take special attention and the encryption scheme is an efficient one.

  • How do I find and delete invisible files?

Mac Hard Drive info window says 157.58 GB used and 159.56 GB capacity, leaving 1.99 available.
Total for all folders in Mac HD is 133.344 GB.
    14.13 GB  Library
    04.81 GB System
    114.4 GB Users
    16.58  GB Applications
.004   GB  User Guides and Info
I appear to missing about 20 GB storage that I desperately need.
    What is going on?
How do I clear out "invisible file" if that's what's taking up the 20 gigs?
How do I prevent this from happening again?
    Please advise.
    Thank you.
    I have a MBPRO 2.26 running OSX 10.6.8

Thanks so much  for your response.
Do you have any idea why there are 20 GB unaccounted for?
My hard drive seems to fill itself up continouously...I'd like to figure that one out.
Yes...Getting a larger HD is a great idea.
Does having a large HD impair performance?
I am thinking about getting a 1.5 TB Seagate Barracuda.
