How do I make a 3-d rotating text in Flash cs4?

Hi, Thunder BoomCat PowWow here.
I'm a student in this Virtual Enterprise class and am in charge of learning flash and making a kick-butt commercial for our firm: Uncommon Ground.
I was wanted to make some text rotate AROUND a sphere in flash (the sphere is going to be a picture of the earth).
I want the text to go in one direction, wrapping around the sphere, and appearing on the other side like it went all the way around.
Can anyone tell me how to do that using Flash?
Thanks in advanced,
TBCPW
Sole employee of the media department

flash can't make 3d objects.  cs5 can make 2d objects that move in apparent 3d space but that's the limit of flash'es capabilities.
however, there are other programs that can be used to make 3d objects and then animate those objects in flash.

    Hi,
Can you attach a comp of what you're trying to accomplish, instead of a live link to a commercial home page?
Are you wanting to make the country code of the url bigger like this?

  • How do I make Indesign CS3 the default rather than Indesign CS4?

Indesign 6.0.2 is driving me crazy, that spinning ball spins for every character I type.  It takes 5 minutes to write one word.  I want to use CS3 instead, which works great with dynamic spelling, which I have turned off in CS4, but don't want to dump CS4.  How do I make CS3 the default?  When I open CS3 and save, it saves it as CS4 so to open it I can't click on it I have to open CS3 first.  Illustrator in CS4 works great.

The only way to make a mac recognize CS3 as default would be to completely remove CS4.
In OSX new version trumps older versions. you can however have both apps open drop files you know are cs3 on the CS3 dock Icon or an Alias on your desktop. CS3 does not save as CS4 its just that the OS makes all ID files look like the newest version.

  • How to do a simple or basic actionscript on Adobe Flash CS4? I am just having problems

I am doing my simple portfolio on Adobe Flash CS4. However when I am already looking just for the basic action scripting from the tutorial I can't determine which is the most accurate for the buttons.
    Here's my sample below
the texts that were listed below are my buttons such as  ABOUT, PROFILE, PRINT ADS, MAGAZINE, LOGO, PRINT, ILLUSTRATION, and DESIGN CONCEPT
I've already convert it into symbol as BUTTON and now I am ready to put a basic action script to function and transfer into another scene.
Example I want to function the ILLUSTRATION and PRINT button into Illustration and Print scene how would I do the action script about it?
Here's the example of next scenes that could be clicked from the homepage
    This is the ILLUSTRATION scene
    This is the PRINT scene
Please help me on how to do the action scripting by using the gotoAndPlay or anything else to function my portfolio. Thank you

Give each of your buttons an instance name via the Properties panel.  As an example fr coding them, let's say you named the button "about_btn" for the scene named "about" that you want it to go to.  Then to have that button make your file go to the about scene, you would add the following code into a frame of the timeline where that button is (in a separate actions layer preferably).  Select the frame and in the Actions panel write...
    about_btn.onRelease = function(){
         gotoAndStop("about", 1);
If you wanted it to play instead of stop at frame 1 of the about scene, then you would use gotoAndPlay(...) instead of gotoAndStop(...).  If you intended to go to a frame other than 1, then it is best to use frame labels and specify the label instead of the frame number.
Just a word of warning, if you haven't gotten too far with the design yet, you should back away from using scenes and just build all your sections into the first scene as sections of the timeline and/or movieclips.  Combining scenes with navigation can be problematic... they just don't play right.  Scenes are more useful for animations that do not have navigation.
    When you use just the one scene, all your gotoAndStop/Play commands only need to specify the frame... as in gotoAndStop(1);

  • How do I import SWC files created with Flex info Flash CS4?

I've created very nice UI component using Flex 3 and I have exported it into a SWC file.
How can I import it into Flash CS4 to use it there?

Hmm... if you happen to be familiar with C#, then you may probably know about the problem of P/Invoke (this is a command that lets you access Windows API through C# code, which will apparently prevent it from functioning on other OSs).
What happens with Flex framework is somewhat similar to this. I.e. it relies to much on the features of Flex compiler and the components of the framework create a lot of cross-dependencies, which makes them barely usable outside the framework.
So, if you have time and doing this just as a matter of learning, I'd suggest you start an AS project in Flex builder and advance with it compiling it both with Flex and Flash to see if there are any differences (basically, once you see it doesn't compile / doesn't behave as you'd expect in Flash, you'll know you used something that is specific to Flex). These would be mostly meta tags, like [Bindable] for example.
And, if you need any tutorials on how to code in pure AS, then, well, there are really to many So that you can even choose what's appropriate / goes better with your learning habits.
If you like video lessons, there're tons of them at gotoandlearn.com, if you prefer reading documentation, here you go: http://livedocs.adobe.com/flash/9.0/ActionScriptLangRefV3/class-summary.html
if you prefer forums / written tuts, then, kirupa.com, actionscript.org, flashkit.com as well as Adobe forums will provide you with a lot of information.

  • Jagged edges on rotated text in Flash

Does anyone have a good solution for getting rid of jagged edges on rotated text? I have tried the anti-aliasing options but nothing seems to change the jaggedness.
    Any advice is apprecitated.
    Thanks!

I don't know if this is the problem, but I've seen some display anomalies when using the scroll wheel on the mouse (typically sideways scroll, but it happens with vertical sometimes, too). I know Logitech mice are affected, but I don't believe it's resticted to just the Logitech mice. Im most cases switching to the Hand tool (use the keyboard shortcut Alt/Opt + Spacebar to access it temporarily) and clicking will clear things up again, sometimes for the rest of the editing session. When I see this, though, it affect all pages not just one.
Does the type clear if you restart ID and reopen the file?

  • How would i make an object and rotate it?

ok, i'm trying to get java to make a graphics object, and then create an array of said objects (basically just a bunch of rectangles organized into rows/columns) with the end goal being that i be able to put this collection of rectangles into a JPanel and then move it around and rotate it without changing its dimensions (so each rectangle in the collection retains the same height and width but with a different placement/orientation angle )
My java textbook (yes, college student) doesn't cover the Graphics2D stuff which SEEMS to be what i would use... but beyond that I'm finding the resources on the topic to be uniformly opaque. i think i just need some starting point to extrapolate from. could anyone reply me a crash course in the above...?

  • How do I make a circle pattern in text fill?

I'm looking to make a gradient cirlce pattern to fill some text in with. I've looked quite extensively for a tutorial or a quick how-to of something similar but I was unsuccessful. Maybe I'm not using the right search words. Anyway, what I'm looking to accomplish is something like what's in this link.

I'm sure doing this is fairly simple but I'm new to illustrator. If someone could help me out or point me to a tutorial of this or something similar, I'd greatly appreciate it.
    Thanks

    This "might" help...
Draw the first circle, the smallest one.
Now Ctrl Alt D (win) or Cmnd Option D (mac) or use the menu to select Object>transform>each and set horizontal and vertical percentages to your preference (say 110%) and hit copy.
Now Ctrl or Cmnd D to duplicate as many concentric expanding circles as you want. This only takes a few seconds.

  • How do I make a laser cutting out text. I need this to look like sheet metal.

I need to create an animation of a company logo being cut out by a laser, like a laser cutting out words on sheet metal. Anyone know how I could do this?
Also before you reply to this post please know that I am definetely a novice in after effects, so anyone who is going to suggest or post a tutorial for me to follow, please make it a video or include pictures. I had one guy in a previous post send me a link to a project folder I could download. I had no idea what I was looking at. I couldn't find the after effects file or even the tutorial he was talking about.

Create text in Illustrator. Export as single path (advanced AI skills required). Import path into AE. Apply path to solid layer as mask information. Apply Beam effect (or similar like Lightning or Advanced Lightning). Apply mask path to one of the the effect's End Points.
Copy layer. Turn off or delete Beam effect and apply your choice of CC particles. Parent the end point of the particle to the endpoint of the Beam effect.
Duplicate the layer again and change the particle to smoke. Duplicate again and add Lens Flare to the end point path and the Unmult.
You use parenting (or a more elegantly applied set of expressions) all the way down the line so any changes you make to the original timing and positioning are reflected in all downstream effects.
The magic of this hackneyed visual effect lies not in the beam or sparks or text. It's in the finesse and elegance you use to remove the waste metal, apply a glow to the hot metal edge, add smoke, and change the direction and pattern of the sparks to simulate a cutting torch or a laser or a science fiction ray gun. If you go 3D, you can animate the camera to follow the cutting beam.
Dean Valez's site used to have a lovely example of this effect. His contribution was to have the background sheet of metal hesitate and then topple toward the camera, leave the bottom of the frame and crash hard enough to shake the camera and raise a cloud of dust. He was a master at adding special touches that elevated the sequence above the ordinary.

  • How do I make the margin beneath the text in a text box smaller?

    Hi-
I'm trying to either make the inner margin in a text box smaller, or align the text on the bottom of the text box in fireworks. (by text box, I mean the box surrounding a text element).
With the extra space beneath the text, I can't place the text box close enough to the element beneath it without the two boxes overlapping. Not sure I'm making this clear; please see the screenshot.
Thanks in advance for the help!

Ahhh... that's a really good reason. It *would* be nice if Fireworks' text boxes could emulate the CSS box model and include features like background, border, padding, etc.
When you say that "adjusting the text box padding" didn't work for you, do you mean "adjusting baseline shift"? Because baseline shift should have absolutely no effect on the bounding box itself (though I don't know what it's effect is on exporting to HTML + CSS). The box itself stays rock solid, while the individual letters move up or down.
Nevertheless, it's not the greatest solution. In this context, if you want to preserve the flow of your text content while maintaining maximum control over its appearance—and avoid the conversion to absolute positioning—your best bet might be to use a single text box. If you think about it, there are plenty of ways to control the placement and appearance of text within a single box (although it may not be how you prefer to work). Keeping things "in flow" should keep them from being absolutely positioned upon conversion.
Aaron Beall has developed a nice set of Text commands for Fireworks—including a "Merge Text Boxes" command that could be helpful to you if you wanted to combine your multiple boxes into a single text box. (I was originally wondering if anyone might have developed a command to snap the bounding box of text to the text itself—to its inner "raw" dimensions—but I didn't find one.)

  • How do I make my pages have uniform text?

    Hi!
Okay so I'm really new to Dreamweaver and web design, but there's one thing that's bugging me beyond belief that I just can't figure out how to fix. I even feel stupid asking this question because maybe (and hopefully) there's a really simple answer, but anyways...
So basically, I use the design part a lot more than the code part. Every time I put a bunch of text into my the main content part of my page, I want to have some of the text centered, and the majority of it aligned to the left (as I'm sure is the case with most people). But everytime I align a part of it, the whole thing aligns the same way. Same goes with color and font. Sometimes, a box comes up saying "New CSS Rule", "Choose your selector name", etc... It generally says this in the box:
This selector name will apply your rule to
    all <p> elements
that are within any HTML elements with id "mainContent"
that are within any HTML elements with id "container"
that are within any HTML elements with class "twoColLiqLtHdr".
I've tried picking different ones, but it never only lets me align that particular sentence. It normally changes the whole or another part of the text as well.
    Please help! It's so frustrating!
    Thanks!

J Cellini's advice is spot on, you can't rely on design view for ever, you'll have to get into code view and get your hands dirty at some point  :-)

  • How can I make Premiere Pro handle Live Text Templates faster?

Currently I have a an After Effects Project that is setup as a Text Template.  When I render out the "template" composition in AFX, it takes 8 seconds.  The same composition through Live Text in Premiere Pro takes 34 minutes.  This comp is 6 seconds, and I can't for the life of me explain, or fix, the time difference...  After Effects multi-frame processing is turned off, so that shouldn't be the issue... I'm at a lost... I don't mind rendering my titles out in After Effects, but it is much more convenient in Premiere Pro as the text fields are all in the same place.
My computer is a custom Windows 8.1 Pro running Premiere Pro and After Effects CC 2014.1 with 64GB of RAM, a NVIDIA GeForce 680 2GB, and an Intel i7-3960X 3.30GHz processor.  I've noticed that when PPro is attempting to render, its task in the task manager never goes about 5% and the AfterFX one it creates never goes above 10% CPU usage.  The two applications also don't use much RAM, though I don't suppose they should need a lot seeing how it is a 6 second comp... But none the less, I've allocated 58GB to the Adobe Suite through the AFX preferences dialog.
Any help would be greatly appreciated...
