How do I make a highlight sports video?

I'm looking to make a highlight reel of just the rebounds from my son's last basketball game. I've got PPro cs6.
Is there a quick way to do this in the timeline, clip it and scrub quickly to the next rebound, trim etc..
I am signed up to Lynda, but searching their videos can lead to overload sometimes.

put your first clip on the timeline
place an in point at the beginning of the clip
scrub to the beginning of your first rebound highlight, place an exit point
extract in-to-out in the timeline
scrub to the end of your first rebound highlight, place an in point
scrub to the beginning of your second rebound highlight, place an exit point
extract in-to-out in the timeline
repeat until all you have on the timeline are highlights from your first clip
add your second clip to the timeline... repeat
or, hire an assistant?

1. Without a flash ciommunication server for TRUE streaming
of the file, what you get is called Progressive streaming. This
means once the video begins to download it can start playing before
the file has completely downloaded to the user. There are good

2. If you have the file set to start automatically there will
be no need for the user to push the play button. You could just put
a graphic on top of the video component, and use actionscript to
make the graphic invisible when the play button is pushed.

How can I make a mixed audio/video playlist?

I would like to make a playlist of music videos. iTunes seems to consider "music videos" as a separate type than video files. The problem is that some of my music videos are detected by iTunes as formal "music videos" while others are detected as "movies". While I can add them all to the same playlist, I can only play the playlist as one of the two types, and it will ignore the files of the other type. For example, if I access the playlist through my music playlists on my iPhone, it will only play the music videos that iTunes thinks are actual "music videos" and will not play the ones that iTunes thinks are "movies". Same problem in the opposite direction if I play the playlist through the movie/video interface.
How can I get them all to play together? They are ALL videos, and all in the same format (.mp4), so I'm not sure why iTunes is so confused.

Well, good news and bad news. I found out how to tell iTunes that all my music videos are, in fact, actual "music videos" and categorize them as such. In the "Get Info" screen for a track, there is a dropdown selector where you can pick the "meta" type, such as "Music Video", "Home Video", "Movie", "TV Show", etc. This allows iTunes and iOS to think they are all music videos and play them in the same list.
Unfortunately, this is not compatable with my third party device, which is now refusing to play my music videos in a playlist and will only play them one at a time (in a single-track infinite loop no less). Very frustrating!

I am teaching a course in media literacy and show some of the uploaded old tv commercials to my students. i want to show next year's class some of the same commercials, so i want to save the ones I find this year while they're available.
At school, I work on a pc, and it plays video back in RealPlayer which gives me a 'download' option, so i can save these commercials.
But when i find good clips at home, on my mac, all I can do is note the urls, then do it all again at school to get to them to download. it would be much easier if i could download them as I find them, then take them to school on my portable drive.

At school, I work on a pc, and it plays video back in RealPlayer which gives me a 'download' option, so i can save these commercials
RealPlayer v. 11.0.0 (may still be in beta) now includes that Downloader - a very useful item!
It is a free download but they will ask for money in July. Must be why they call it RealPlayer Plus!

I have had it for a couple of weeks and have had no problems.
As for making RealPlayer the default video player, IMO that is not a good idea. There is a lot of stuff out there that RealPlayer would not be able to handle.
These are the downloads and the settings you need in order to view/hear pretty much everything that the net can throw at you: The setup described below has proved repeatedly successful on both PPC and Intel macs, but nothing in life carries a guarantee!
It is known to work in the great majority of cases with Safari 3.0.4, QT 7.3 or 7.4 and OS 10.4.11. (If you are running Leopard, ensure that all plug-ins have been updated for OS 10.5.2, but please see my footnote).
Assuming you already run Tiger versions OS 10.4.9 or above (this has not yet been verified with Leopard) and have Quicktime 7.2 or above, and are using Safari 2 or 3, download and install (or re-install even if you already had them) the latest versions, suitable for your flavor of Mac, of:

In earlier versions than QT 7.1.3 in Quicktime Preferences, under advanced, UNcheck Enable Flash, and under Mime settings/Miscellananeous only check Quicktime HTML (QHTM).
You should also ensure, if you are running Tiger 10.4.11 or Leopard, that you have downloaded and installed the correct version for your Mac of Security Update 2007-009.1.1, which also deals with the Quicktime/Flash issues you may have experienced, such as the '?'. What happened was that both Quicktime as well as Adobe FlashPlayer tried to play the Flash video at the same time. This no longer happens. (N.B. Security Update 2007-009 1.1 requires both a restart and a permission repair.)
If you get problems with viewing video on a website try moving this file to your Desktop:
Hard drive/Library/Internet Plug-Ins/QuickTime Plugin.webplugin
and then restarting Safari. If all now works, you can trash that file.
In Macintosh HD/Library/Quicktime/ delete any files relating to DivX (Perian already has them). However it should be noted that Perian is not an internet plugin and will not play DivX files imbedded on a website. For that you will need the DivX Player browser plugin available from http://www.divx.com/divx/mac/
Now go to Safari Preferences/Security, and tick the boxes under Web Content (all 4 of them) to enable Java.
Lastly open Audio Midi Setup (which you will find in the Utilities Folder of your Applications Folder) and click on Audio Devices. Make sure that both Audio Input and Audio Output, under Format, are set to 44100 Hz, and that you have selected 'Built in Audio'.
Important: Now repair permissions and restart.
You should also consider having the free VLC Player from http://www.videolan.org/ in your armory, as this plays almost anything that DVD Player might not.
FOOTNOTE
If you are running Leopard:
Some users have mentioned that the latest Flash Player (v.9.0.115.0) conflicts with Leopard, and that they have needed to revert to v. 9.0.47. This can be downloaded from here:

How can I make firefox highlight new unread items on Drudge when the page auto-refreshes

So I read Drudge Report and checkit a few times a day. It would be nice to have the unread news items highlighted. The new items that appear after the page auto refreshes. It just occurred to me whilst writing this that I would have to open every link on the page to make the task of highlighting new content easier. I don't know but if there's a way to have the new unread items highlighted it would save time scanning the whole page for new stuff.

How can I make a "Youtube" style video gallery for offline, '.air' use?

I work for a language company and we've put together a set of videos for use in computers, not online. Currently we're using Apple's Keynote to present our videos to to the student. This has the advantage of allowing us to put videos in a sequential order, with absolutely no work in the development department, and most importantly was easy for any student to control and navigate.
Things have now changed.
Keynote can no longer hold the size of our videos and we are constantly adding and changing videos all the time. Now that CS5 is out, I would like to build a stand alone flash application for our system modeled after the same look and functionality of youtube.
Key features would be:
• Main video player that links to our resident video files
• Something that generates and displays a title for the current video
• A text box below the main video player for notes and instructions
• a side bar of thumbnails for all related videos, with titles displayed
Future features would be an easy way for us to change videos in and out of the library (by "uploading" and "downloading" using a form for the videos, although not to the net, but again, on the resident computer).
It looks like CS5 would make this possible. My plan is to make a youtube-like site using flash catalyst. I think I can do it myself since the first version only needs basic elements and design, but I know I'm going to run into some problems because I'm not sure the limitations of catalyst for this style of interactive video gallery.
What I'm looking for is someone to just quickly guide, tell, or yell me in the right direction, and I'm really keen (hell-bent?) on trying it out using Flash Catalyst... is this the way?
Keeping in mind that my first draft only has to be a simple working version of the system, and I can play with the rest later, is any of what I said possible using flash catalyst?

I doubt MU can do this. It's pretty limited in scope & I don't think it supports server-side code which you would need to parse feeds. But feel free to post your question in the MU forum. Maybe somebody there has a workaround.

How Can I Make a Guitar Cover Video?

I'm not sure if this is possible to do but how can I do this?
I want to basically record a video of me playing my electric guitar with a song.
I have a cable that allows me to plug my electric guitar into my MBP, and GarageBand let's me use the computer as an amp (with all the effects etc.). My MBP has the built-in iSight.
So I need the video to have the actual song playing (mp3), my guitar playing (audio), and my guitar playing (video).
Is there any easy way to do this? If so, how? Thanks!

drop the mp3 into the GB timeline, create a New Basic Track for your guitar recording, and use iMovie to record the video.
you can then solo your guitar track in GB and export it. import that into your iMovie project to replace whatever audio its recorded (check in the iMovie forum for the exact method for doing that)
it would be wise to clap your hands together loudly after you start recording to easily sync up the audio and video portions

How can I make the highlighted area smaller in Preview?

When I try to highlight a passage in Preview it is huge! I would think that when you choose to highlight something it should litteraly just highlight THOSE lines. However, it looks like a scribble that takes up more than the passage above and below many lines, as if its been scribbled back and forth ***?

I don't seem to see the same thing:
I can't find any preferences that control the highlighting.

there you can see some sub-videos with St. Mary and some animals on it looking a little bit transparent in the sky. I knew it's just a simple and old effect but I'm new to video editing stuffs.
What I'm guessing is that adjusting the sub-videos's opacity won't be enough, some area works and adjustments are probably required as well but I have no idea what tools to use.
Would anyone here be kind enough to help me out?

How can I make PDFs highlight-able?

I print to PDF using Tiger's built in PDF services a lot. I want to be able to highlight text in the PDFs I create. But the security on all the documents I create says "Commenting: Not Allowed" in Adobe Reader 8. Preview doesn't tell me anything good or bad about commenting, and it allows me to add little sticky-note text boxes, but I as far as I can tell, not highlight.
Any ideas? Is there a secret setting somewhere I can tweak? Or have I missed something obvious?

Note that if the video is in a low resolution (as would seem to be the case given the native window size), expanding the window will yield a fuzzy picture, more so the larger you expand the window.
