Using the Spotlight setting in Lighting Effect, is probably the simplest way, but knowing a few others, will give you options.

  • How do I make a highlight sports video?

I'm looking to make a highlight reel of just the rebounds from my son's last basketball game.  I've got PPro cs6.
Is there a quick way to do this in the timeline, clip it and scrub quickly to the next rebound, trim etc..
I am signed up to Lynda, but searching their videos can lead to overload sometimes.
    Thanks

put your first clip on the timeline
place an in point at the beginning of the clip
scrub to the beginning of your first rebound highlight,  place an exit point
    extract in-to-out in the timeline
scrub to the end of your first rebound highlight, place an in point
scrub to the beginning of your second rebound highlight,  place an exit point
    extract in-to-out in the timeline
repeat until all you have on the timeline are highlights from your first clip
add your second clip to the timeline... repeat
    or, hire an assistant?
    hahahahahahahahaha!!!!

  • Highlight one person in a sports video

Is there a way to highlight one person in a sports video. Like the person making the basket is highlighted in white while the rest of the team is darker??

If the player is in the middle of the field, you could try the "Clip Adjustment" -> Video Effect called Vignette. It may kinda give the effect you want. IF player not in middle, you could use Cropping and rotation to get him or her in the middle.

  • Microphone options for sports video

I need to figure out the best options for audio capture for high school sports videos--primarily football (American) and volleyball. For football, I will be recording from the annoucers booth (i.e., well away from the field). I'd like to get one channel that is mostly "field" sounds (and doesn't include my behind the screen cursing), and a second channel that has more ambient sounds and that will hear me calling out down and distance (and cussing) Would a shotgun mic be useful at distances of 100s of feet?
I have a Canon XH-A1 which has dual XLR inputs. Cost is a strong consideration. Appreciate your advice.

    +<??? Thought I posted this days ago...>+
Ah. Yes. With potentially hundreds of clips (plays) per game, that would be a lot of clapper boarding! But I get the idea and I'm considering it. Maybe there's a way to get the LANC signal to trigger a DAT tape...
Right now, I'll be operating the two sideline cameras and we will have a third camera on a 30' tall boom in the endzone (yes, this is just high school...)
For the next day film review, the editing has to be minimal because of the time crunch, so i'm trying to work out synchronizing the cameras. There's also special football video review software that gives the coaches and players a lot of viewing flexibility from the multiple angles.
For my own use (son on the team) and for the end of year highlights stuff, I have been using Final Cut Express, which I like. Pro/Studio has a lot more features, and the fact that express loses the timecode, can only handle a few HD formats, and only works in AIC are significant limitations. $1100 and the huge time committment to get up to speed on Pro are pretty big limiatations, too.
Everyone is blown away by the video though--even transfered to DVD using iDVD. When they see it directly off the camera or on the computer, well, it certainly ain't the $600 Costco special video camera folks are used to. I'm very much a novice with using the camera, and I can't say I have a lot to compare it to, but the image is spectacular, which I assume has as much to do with the lens, it has full auto dumb-dumb modes that work reasonbly well and full control modes that give you... full control... it's reasonbly small and light. There are a lot of menu steps to get to certain functions, but there are user defined function buttons that you can set up. For me, so far, so good.

  • I am looking for a reasonably priced sports video analysis software?

I am looking for a reasonably priced sports video analysis software? I need it to tag events during a sports game, then be able to recall the tags later.  There is software out there, but not a lot that are MAC compatable.

There's no way to do those things on an iPad.  If you have already installed a new application on the iPad (Disk Drill) then your file has probably already been overwritten.  Sorry.

  • I Need an Oval Shape for a Sports Video

I'm editing a sports video, and would like to create an oval to place around the player in question so as to draw the viewer's eye to him. The oval will appear during a still frame, so I don't need it to be animated.
I know this should be fairly simple, but I'm stumped.
I'm using Premiere Pro CS4. Thank you.

Yes, Titler makes many things easy. Some just think of it for text, but it has some pretty neat Shapes too.
I'll usually open it up first, and if needed go to Photoshop for more intricate work, with maybe some preliminary work in Illustrator.
I also posted a screen-cap of the Titler panel, so you can see the particular Attributes that I used.
    Good luck,
    Hunt
[Edit] I normally work with Show Video checked, but also know that I can fine-tune with Effects>Motion. You can also do work with other Effects, like Gaussian Blur, if needed. This is applied to the Title.

  • Looking for a sports video camera that is compatible with the mac

Looking for a video camera that can record sports well and is also compatible with the mac. I've been using iMovie to edit videos for a highlight reel of my highschool soccer games that I coach.

I like Sony HD MiniDV (HDV) Handycam Camcorder - HDRFX1000, but I have also used several older Sony (DCR-TRV17 and DCR-TRV70) and Canon (VIXIA HV20, VIXIA HV30, and VIXIA HV40) tape-based Firewire-equipped camcorders with good results.
I prefer tape-based Firewire-equipped cameras because of their IEEE 1394 transfer speed, compatibility with iMovie HD, and ability to serve as the source recording directly into iMovie when desired.  If none of these characteristics is important to you, other Mac-compatible camcorders with suitable zoom ranges and lens speeds for the light levels you encounter should also do nicely for recording at your games.
You do not say which iMovie version you are using, but you can find about known compatible camcorders by searching for the info in a search like this one.

  • Mirroring sports videos from macbook to TV is bad but good from iPhone????

    Hi,
I am living in Sweden and I use viaplay(similar to netflix) a couple of times per week. Unfortunately there is no viaplay app for apple tv.
Anyway, the point being: if I use the viaplay app on my phone, that streams sports events in a great way. However I don't want to use my phone for streaming and I definitely belong to the club of seeing a point with tablets. So, again, I have a macbook air for doing this: how can I stream the video (running on silverlight) without using the horrible airplay mirroring (too choppy, laggy, amateurish) with the same quality as the iphone?

1 - no - if you do not like or use iPhoto then yu have no need for the iPhoto library - it is sefl contained and deleting it will not affect anything except iPhoto
2 - you can export photos form iPhoto to any format drive - it is only the iPhoto library that has drive format restrictions
Reformatting a drive totally erases it so you can not simply change the format of a drive without removing everything on it
3 - deciede what you want  - if you use iPhoto then it has no cross platform capability and nothing you do in iPhoto is directly of use on a PC - you have to export from iPhoto to a volume that a PC can read
Since you do not like or use iPhoto and it will not do what you want I have no idea why you are messing with it at all

  • When watching baseball highlights the video is slower than audio. I checked all my plug ins and they are up to date. suggestions?

I have been having problems when watching video clips from news but mainly when I check the video highlights on mlb.com. The video is slower than the audio. It freezes up at times or drags.I have checked all my plug ins on firefox and they are up to date. I checked my PC for errors and cleaned it. But still having problems.

You can check for problems with current Flash plugin versions and try these:
*disable a possible RealPlayer Browser Record Plugin extension for Firefox and update the RealPlayer if installed
*disable protected mode in the Flash plugin (Flash 11.3+ on Windows Vista and later)
*disable hardware acceleration in the Flash plugin

  • Noise in video highlights when video effect added.

I am getting black noise in the highlight areas of my video whenever I add a video effect.  Even before I make any changes to the settings of the effect, black spots appear in the white (highlight) areas of the video.  Toggling the effect on/off from the effect control window makes the spots appear/disappear.
Any suggestions as to why this is happening and how to eliminate the problem?
I am using Premiere Pro in CS6 on an iMac computer.
    Thanks!

  • Adding a Running Clock to a Sports Video

    Hey,
I'm producing a full length rugby video for my university and It'd be really nice to put a running clock in the top left corner by the scoreboard.
I've trawled the internet and can't seem to find an answer, so has anyone got a solution to this problem?
    Will

Problem is, I've already taken the footage.
It doesn't really matter about the syncing of the clock to the field clock - just that we've got a running timer, because when it hits 40 minutes I can always create a graphic saying 'time added on'.

  • Best transcode settings for 20+ minute sports video DVD?

I've been producing videos and DVDs for a while but I'm new to Encore. From my initial experience, the finished quality is much better than the Apple iDVD that I have been using. While I'm very happy with the DVD, I'd like to see if I can get better quality results.
Yes, I'm going from HD > SD (DVD) and I understand it's not the same thing and that the resolution is much less. I would just like help with the DVD transcode settings that I'll use to build my DVD.
I'm exporting standalone quicktime movie from FCE with no custom settings.
    My quicktime file resolution is 1920 x 1080 @ 29.97 fps.
My videos are usually about 20-25 minutes long and have lots of motion in them. Any suggestions are requested.
I'm very happy with the color but some of the motion looks a little jumpy at times and some of the stills aren't as crisp as I'd like.
    Thanks,
    Bob

Time for the proverbial spanner in the works.
If you are in NTSC lands, and your source footage is HD at 24fps, you could always try encoding to the 24p MPEG-2-DVD setting.
This will put the progressive scan footage on the DVD at 24p, without degrading it to interlaced - and on an upscaling player you will get output at 24p.
If the disc is played on a non upscaling system, the player will automatically pull to 29.97, so you lose nothing and gain a lot.
The Adobe Media Encoder does a fine job of the 24p for DVD encoding as well - just remember to render out as elementary streams (.m2v and .WAV) - do not use the Dolby Digital encoder at this point (unless you need the SurCode 5.1 of course) and use LPCM - let Encore handle this.

  • Adobe Media Encoder CS5 stoped sporting video! :(

    Hi,,
Has somebody had the same issue with adobe media encoder stoping during the export always when is like more than half of the process(60% or 65%).
This never happend before and is happening now, I have to force quit because the aplication is doing nothing. and later when I try to do it again file>export>media>export settings>queue> apears preparing for export and after exporting data and the adobe media encoder does not open!
    Please Help!
    Mac pro 8 core
    16 GB ram
    GTX285

I see you have the same problem.
    Yes, I solved it!
My problem was the cineform file!   I try exporting half by half as a quicktime file and reinport it to premiere pro only on a quicktime project and export it again the full secuence and this time didn't have no problems.

  • Slow motion is distorted on DVD

When i burn a movie to DVD and watch thorugh a dvd player, the slow motion looks distorted.    have premiere elements 7.  I'm trying to make some highlight sport videos.   What is the best way to burn to DVD and get the best quility.   The slow motion looks good when I make a movie in a H.264 or a mpeg2 format and watch on youtube.  I have a Canon vixia HF200 camcorder.

my timelines will be anywhere from 10-60 minutes a piece. No matter the length I have the same problem.  I do the slow motion by slicing a section I want in slow motion-move it to another video timeline-I copy it-put the original back into the timeline.  With the copy version in the a seperate timeline, I use the stretch tool and stretch the video approx. 5-6 seconds sometimes less, like 2-3 seconds.  I will put the slowmotion version back into the timeline behind the copied version.  When you watch the video you will see the fast version then right away again in slow motion.  I've been putting them on youtube in HD(h.264 or mpeg2 format) and it looks great, but once to DVD it gets distorted. I'm using Magnavox DVD+R's  right now.   I'm using a HD camcorder that puts out m2t format video.
I'm videoing  youth football right now. plenty of outdoor light.
As far as the setting I'm using.  I go to Share-Disc-preset NTSC-widescreen_dolby DVD,  slider is moved all the way to highest quility, then burn disk.
I would apprectiate any feed back with this issue.  It's almost has me giving up on my projects.  Let me know if you need any more info regarding this issue as well.
The video looks good on TV except when it gets to a part that I made in slow motion too. I have a 46" 1080P TV and I watched it through my computer on a 23" monitor and the same problem.

  • How to add highlight mark to video?

I'm a novice video editor. I need to produce a sports video, and I need to highlight an individual player by putting a circle, an arrow, or some other type of highlight around the individual player for a second or two. Anyone know how to do this? I know that iMovie has no such capability, but I'm hoping that someone could refer me to third-party software that could do this.
    Thanks in advance!

Karen -- THANK YOU! I used the technique you suggested with PhotoShop, and it worked GREAT.
To make it easy to position the circle that I created in PhotoShop, I did this:
    1) In iMovie, place the cursor (that might not be the right word to use, maybe I should say the time index?) in the place where you want to add an overlay circle. Create a still image by control-clicking. Set the length of that still image to however long you want your overlay circle to last (e.g. 1 second)
    2) Open the still image in PhotoShop.
    3) Add a layer
    4) Add an image on that layer. I used a large "0" (using the type tool) which I then filled with red color. The background layer shows you exactly where to place your image.
    5) Delete the background layer.
    6) Save the image as TIFF with a transparent background, as you suggested on your web site. Save it to "Photo Booth" folder.
    7) Find the image (the highlight) in iMovie. (It will be in the photo browser window.)
    8) Drag the image on top of the still image that you created in step 1.
    9) Now you can either move that still image (with the new overlay circle) to wherever you need it in your movie, or you can drag the overlay image on top of your original video.
