How do I make my wireless signal stronger?

I have an airport extreme wireless router and confgured it today.
I read everywhere that it was extremely strong and reached everywhere.
However i have set it up today and I can barely pick it up from the room next door, is there a way to make the signal stronger??

You're dealing with "flea power."  The Extreme and Express deliver about One tenth of one watt at 100% percent power.  In practical applications, wood framed houses utilizing gypsum wall boards give the best results.  Since metal is a great radio signal attenuator, the more metal that is installed within the walls, the poorer your wifi results will be.  As a crude example, in a wood framed house, you can expect good results up to 30 - 40 feet away, on an interference free channel.  After that, things get dicey.

How do I make my wireless trackpad discoverable?

    Hello Shari BSW,
    Welcome to Apple Support Communities.
You can take a look at the Quick Start Guide:
    Magic Trackpad Quick Start Guide

Pg 4 has instructions for pairing and removing a paring. When the Magic Trackpad is not pared with a computer, turning it on puts it into discovery mode automatically (pg 3).

How do I make my wireless router the "preferred network"?  I have to manually re-select it each time I boot up or when it comes out of standby.  This has only started to occur now that I have a new wireless router.  I want it to automatcially select my router.

Have you restarted your computer?  Repaired permissions and restarted your computer?

  • HT1515 how does the airport express make my wifi signal stronger?

i am thinking about buying an airporst express because the wifi signal in my room is so slow. so i was wondering if i bought the device, how it would work and how is it conected to my main internet source?

First, please understand that the AirPort Express will only "extend" a wireless signal from another Apple router. It will not work with a device from another manufacturer for this purpose.
The Express "extends" a wireless signal by receiving, amplifying and re-broadcasting the original signal from the "main" Apple router. The result is a much stronger wireless signal with better wireless coverage. Although the Express can make the signal stronger, it cannot make it go faster. So, the Express needs to be located where it can receive a very strong signal from the main Apple router.

  • How do I make my wireless internet password protected?

I set up my wireless router and went to the 192.168.1.1 to set up everything. But how do I make it password protected, so unwanted people can't access my wireless internet? I did it before but can't figure it out again, haha. I went to Wireless>>>Wireless Security, which default the security mode is set to disabled. Should I enable it? If so, which one? This is my house, by the way. WPA Personal WPA Enterprise WPA2 Personal WPA2 Enterprise RADIUS WEP If this is all wrong, then where do I go to enable a password?

Yes. You should enable it. Otherwise anyone in your proximity can access your wireless LAN, your computers and your internet connection.
You should use WPA2 Personal with AES and a strong longer passphrase to get the highest security. The passphrase can be up to 63 characters long. But it kind of depends on what your wireless clients can do which you must connect. Depending on how old the computers/wireless cards are some can only do WPA, some only WEP. You should not use WEP unless absolutely necessary. WEP can be cracked within minutes. WPA and WPA2 are considered secure at this time.
Thus, kind of the preference should be from highest security down. (choices may be slightly different for your router).
    WPA2 Personal AES
    WPA2 Personal AES+TKIP
    WPA Personal AES
    WPA Personal TKIP
    WEP 128bit
    WEP 64bit
However, don't worry to much about the security of WPA. The differences between WPA and WPA2 are more theoretical. Just don't use WEP. Using AES+TKIP should allow WPA and WPA2 clients to connect. Some WPA clients have still difficulties with that and you may have to revert to pure WPA.
Windows XP requires an update for WPA2. Available for download from microsoft.

  • How do I make sure wireless bridge is on *my* wifi network?!?

Suppose I have a wireless bridge from Linksys, which lets my network disk be on my home wifi network. It's set up to grab an address via DHCP. But, I'm thinking - my neighbor also has a wifi network. How do I make sure the disk is talking to my Linksyst router, not to others that may be in the vicinity? The router has a MAC address filter, and that's great but it's the wrong direction: how do I make sure my wireless devices aren't talking to other people's wifi routers?
    Mike

To prevent your wireless devices from accidently connecting to a neighbor's system, you must set up wireless security.
You will need to enter the following information in both your wireless router and your wireless devices:
    1)  a unique SSID - this identifies your network
    2)  your chosen method of encryption
    3)  your encryption key
You should be able to set your "network disk" (or the bridge that it is using) to only connect to the wireless system that matches 1, 2, and 3 above.

  • New Time Capsule - How do i make it wireless hard disk?

    Hello,
I've bought the brand new AirPort Time Capsule and i would like to make it my new wireless external harddisk.
It seems like i HAVE to use my Ethernet cable to make it work? But i'd like to make it wireless?
Don't understand it, i follow the AirPort-tool instructions, "add to an existing network" and then it says that it needs Ethernet cable?
    What am i doing wrong?
    Please help me,
    Best regards.

If we told you that....you might possibly be able to configure the TC to join your network using wireless.....and if it was successful.....and you found out that backups were going to take twice as long as normal wireless.....and that there was twice as much chance of an error occuring during a backup.....and this is the worst possible way that you could configure the TC.....
Are you still interested in trying an unsupported method to setup the Time Capsule?
Your chances that this might work are really quite slim. There is virtually no chance that it will work unless your existing wireless router is using WPA2 Personal security settings.

  • How do I make my wireless network undiscoverable?

That's pretty much the question. I just got done setting up my new Airport Extreme base station (802.11n) and now I would like the wireless network to be undiscoverable.
    Message was edited by: Wooj

Unfortunately that does not make it undiscoverable. The network name is still broadcast between the base station and any connected clients. Therefore anyone can learn your network name in the matter of a second or two. The only thing that enabling this setting frequently accomplishes is complicating the life of authorized users.
The ONLY ways to make it undiscoverable is to (a) power off/unplug the base station or (b) configure it so that the power level is zero. Either option means that there is no wireless network.

  • How can I make Microsoft Wireless Intellemouse Explorer 2.0 horizontally scroll my LabVIEW block diagrams using the tilting wheel?

I bought this expensive mouse in high hopes that I could use the tilt wheel left/right to scroll horizontally, but it does not do it! Vertical scrolling works great. LabVIEW 7.0. Please help! I'm tired of going to the horizontal scroll bar on my block diagrams!

This doesn't exactly answer your question, but if you use the auto tool, press and hold and you get the Scrolling Tool. That will let you drag the diagram or panel around quickly.

  • How do I make my iMac g4 wireless?

I have an iMac g4 with 10.4 running. How can I make it wireless? If I can where is a good place to buy the part. I know apple does not make it anymore. Thanks for any help in advance.

iMac G4s of different ages could run different versions of the Airport Card.  If yours was only compatible with the original Airport Card, then I would just get a WiFi ethernet bridge, since it won't support 802.11g, or WPA2 encryption. Apple's UFO like Airport Extreme base stations can all function as a WiFi ethernet bridge that is easy to setup on all iMac G4s.      Some third party routers work as well, but you have to isolate which ones can run on 10.4. Those that came with Airport Extreme capability you can find an Airport Extreme card made for them, and while it is limited to 802.11g, unless you are doing major local area network traffic, or streaming to an AppleTV, 802.11g is plenty good with WPA2 encryption.    To find out if yours qualifies, use this guide to find out which iMac G4 you have:
